We called. They came out and gave an estimate. We got two others. My mom decided she wanted to use brikart. They came out and did the job. No muss no fuss. Very professional.
Description of Work: They removed brick that had become uprooted by tree roots and shaved or cut the roots after having us consult with someone re the health of the tree and then replaced the brick perfectly as well as making various other small brick repairs on the patio and around the outside of the house. They were terrifiic. And they do great work

Craig came out and gave me an estimate. I used Craig before and I know he's fair with his prices and I liked the quote so I hired him to do the job. They started within a few days removed the old brick top to the BBQ and laid down a perfectly flat and smooth concrete top. It really updated the old BBQ. They even reinstalled the BBQ unit itself. I've used Brik Art on four projects now and I've always been happy with their work.
Description of Work: Brik Art just recently finished off a BBQ area in my backyard. They pored a concrete top on a brick base and cut a number of holes in the side of the BBQ stand so that doors and drawers could be installed.

Brik-Art (Craig) was great to work with. He listened and made appropriate suggestions. Some of which saved me money. They were timely and did exactly what they said they would do and for the price we agreed to. I would highly recommend Brik-Art to others.
Description of Work: Brik-Art waterproofed my garage by sealing the ceiling in my garage and adding gutters. They also replaced tiles in my basement that were put in incorrectly by another contractor.

I found Brik-Art on Angie's List and contacted them for a estimate. I had estimates from other Angie's List providers, and Brik-Art was in the middle in regards to price. Craig was very personable and talked in detail about what could be done. I wanted brick and I wanted a herringbone pattern. Craig was very helpful in bringing my vision to paper so I felt assured he new what I wanted. His crew arrived on time and they were very knowledgable in their craft, they were polite, and cleaned up throughly every day. The project was completed on time and the finished product is absolutely beautiful and I am very happy. It is not easy to take someone's vision and turn it into a reality, but Craig managed to do this. I will recommend them in the future and use them again.

The job went smoothly. Brik Art arrived on time, replaced my broken section of cement, and hauled the broken cement away. I sprayed the cement with water quite often in the days that followed as it became VERY hot. It dried beautifully, and asphalt paving trucks had no problem going over it a month later when the parking lot was repaved. It survived heavy paving machinery with flying colors.
Description of Work: Had an area with cracked cement, and needed replacement before a big asphalt project which required enough drying time. Craig new timing was urgent, and quickly came with his crew and proceeded with the job. His timing was impeccable, and as you can see from the photos, a professional job was accomplished. They saw cut a rectangular section of broken cement and some surrounding asphalt to place forms, removed broken cement, inserted rebar metal squares to give strength, and began pouring cement. I asked Craig and his crew to come as close as possible to the color of the original surrounding cement, and though it is not exact, it is VERY close, and am happy with the results. It's impossible to match something from over 30 years ago, so am happy that it is close in color.

The project started out already prepped - my landscaper of 20 years did the excavation and soil removal - and with a very attractive bid from BrikArt- (making fair adjustments for the prep work having already been completed and materials purchased). BrikArt - offered the lowest of three other bids and was the only contractor on the project. Craig was responsive, the deposit he required reasonable and his crews punctual and work impressive. The downside: Because Craig could not identify what my existing paver stones were - Prime Building Materials identified the pavers as Belgard Sedona but Belgard no longer makes that color and - Toscana was the closest match. Unfortunately after installing 45 of the 400 square feet of Toscana "upside down," from the way the existing pavers had been installed - the new pavers clearly did not match. When BrikArt flipped the new pavers to match the existing patio pavers they still did not match. There was a short discussion and BrikArt suggested I spend an additional $2,000. to power wash and seal my existing 1600 square feet of Sedona patio to enhance their color to better match the new pavers. I agreed but in addition had a sales rep. from Prime consult. During this period Brik Art left and did not return until a satisfactory paver stone was located by Prime and delivered - they did not remain on the job and install 90% of the wrong color paver. They did not work any additional days. Once I had the correct stones and Brik-Art returned Craig presented me with over $2,500 in additional costs and fees never before discussed - no change orders or authorizations - for work (square footage never done). He alleged they had worked straight through and completed 90% of the project, with the wrong color stone, and now had to redo the entire project? At that point I paid BrikArt to complete the portion of the project they honestly had started while Craig offered to look to see whether he had miscalculated or made a mistake and get back to me in order to maintain the rest of the bid. That never happened. Instead Craig rushed his crew through the end of that day - mixed dirt from my yard in the little sand they had on their truck to sand the bricks they did do - never to return. The billing got crazy and fraudulent. I remain open to Craig adjusting his calculations and truly wish he would finish the project at the contracted price. Bottom line I wasn't willing to pay above and beyond the work done and they did not do 90% of the job in the wrong color. He had a crew of two to four men on the job for a total of 6.5 days (he rotates his workers off your job to other projects). I had already paid to have the project prepped, and for the paver stones and dumpster. They did not even sand or finish - 325 square feet and were paid in excess of $3,750. Yet Craig believes I owe him and he is entitled to an additional $2,500. and will not make good on the original bid and complete the job or even sand the pavers I did pay him to do unless I would agree to an additional $2,500. He feels he is entitled to this because by his math he made too small a profit. I am not concerned with his profit, just the original bid and work actually completed. The numbers don't lie - how he distributes the money he gets is his responsibility not the customer's. In summary: Good and attractive original estimates, good crews, BAD way of conducting and doing business. Pricing is not clear, change orders for additional costs are required by law (CSLB) and communication is very messy. I truly wish Craig would have just done the right thing and finished the project. Given Brik-Art's bogus response to me and Angie's List Members - I am going to file a complaint with the CSLB for poor workmanship, abandonment of the project and excessive billing and make available the CSLB findings and comments on Brik-Art's workmanship on my project and any additional information to anyone considering working with this company at maria@mcsquaredentertainment.com. But for the consumer's sake - it would just be a lot easier and safer to just higher someone else. It's pavers, not rocket science.

Response from BRIK-ART
Member has grossly distorted the true narrative of our transaction. I'd encourage anyone interested in determing what transpired to investigate my sterling record among Angie's List customers Some 90% of the time we get straight A's. 1. She turned down our bid initially and hired a party not licensed to do such work. 2. She engaged us after that deal went south. I scaled down my rates to be close the deal. 3. For four days, a Tuesday thru a Friday, we installed pavers she had procured. 4. Over the weekend, something changed, and we were instructed to remove them; upon our recommendation and suggestion, a representative from the dealer from whom she purchased the product came to the house, and informed us the original paving material, Sedona by Belgard, was in fact available, and the Toscana Belgard she had purchased we removed--some 90% of the work performed--wheelbarreled the great distance to the house front, and carefully stacked them on pallets for the exchange. Three days later we finished the installation with the newly delivered pavers. I hadn't attempted to have her sign change orders because she continually changed her mind as to how to adminster the project with the bad decisions she had made. I made a mistake stepping into a situation where my initial bid was rejected in favor of the apparently low bid, especially when another party had quit or was terminated. I tend to think I can "fix" problems for other people. 5. We spent about two-and-a-half days redoing the work with the Sedona and I simply sought to recover labor costs generated by her poor construction management, and any honest appraisal of the tortured history of this project would readily so this; my calculations show Brik-Art netted a mere $383.80 for having spent the additional time of two to three days. 6. Member continuously praised our workmanship but clearly has no interest in rewarding our best efforts and integrity. In retrospect I know I should have halted the additional work she created by changing her mind on a mismatching paver and had her sign a change order before doing any more work, but it was complicated; she was mercurial, she vacillated between replacing sections or leaving them intact. I put my best foot forward by trusting homeowners; this isn't the first time in dealing with the public for forty years that I've been taken advantage of. Consumer protection laws tend to favor home owners at the expense of contractors, and I'm sure that had I halted work and presented her with a change order it would have ended badly. She simply won't take responsibility for how she handled the project and simply doesn't want to spent more than the intial contracted sum.

Craig was very helpful when discussing the repairs to be made and agreed to make a small pad with matching bricks (which I had) to make the space around the sprinkler valves safer to walk on. The work was done the next day, finished neatly and looks beautiful. This is a family business started by Craig's father, so they have a long history in the San Gabriel, Pasadena, Altadena area
Description of Work: I have a walkway of bricks set in sand. A recently removed tree caused subsidence of the soil under a section of the walk. Brik-Art (Craig) checked on the situation and we agreed that he would remove the affected bricks, reinforce the area and reset those bricks in sand at the appropriate ground level.

Craig and his team did a great job with our new wall, stairs and patio. I interviewed 3 contractors, all from Angie's List and Craig made the best first impression. He is very detail orientated and asked all of the right questions. He took measurements, ran calculations and provided me with a timely estimate that was itemized. The scope of the project did increase(i.e. irrigation issues) as the project unfolded and we agreed to adjust(increase) the estimate. He was great about working with other contractors that I had hired for the entire project ( a gate company and an ironworks guy for the landing rails). The entire project did take slightly longer than I had anticipated and part of this due to fact that Craig is balancing his workload/team amongst multiple other job locations. Another part of the delay was waiting for MY other contractors (gate guy and rail guy) to finish their work. However, he was able to start almost immediately after hiring him, vs several of the other contractors I interviewed were anywhere from 2-6 weeks out. His team was great, especially Charlie. For example, we had several loose bricks in our front yard(unrelated to the project) that Charlie fixed for us at no charge. Overall, I would hire Craig again in a heartbeat. We would talk almost daily throughout the project and he would make sure that we were happy along the way. The bottom line is the end result of the project was exactly what we requested.

This included demolishing the old stairs and creating new steps.-Brick Paving on back door landing-Installed concrete patio with brick trim-Installed curved brick bench for additional seating-Rerouted irrigation around patio-Stucco work/repair

Craig and his crew did excellent work on a very large job. They were well organized and kept us informed each step of the way. Craig made several recommendations based on his experience that made the work look even better. They returned phone and email messages promptly and were readily available to answer questions. His crew did an excellent job of cleaning up each day. We are extremely happy with the work that was done and will definitely use this company for any other Masonary / Concrete work we do in the future.
Description of Work: The job entailed refacing a large expanse of retaining wall with stacked stone veneer. As part of the job, repairs had to be made to the original retaining wall. We were impressed with the thorough job that was done to remove the existing stucco so that the new stone would properly adhere to the wall. We also had Brik-Art install the stone on a mailbox column. Part of the contract also involved pouring some concrete to slightly expand a driveway area.

Great!. The work had to be coordinated with the preparation for a complicated stamped concrete job, a small part of which was right where the planter was going. I wish that i would have thought to add this planter before the concrete project started. But Craig was extremely flexible and accommodating so that the 2 projects could be done without any conflicts, interference or disruption. The finished job was perfect and completed a day before I expected. I do not know what they could have done any better. I would highly recommend Brik-Art, Craig and his crew.

Excellent Work. See Description Above. "
Description of Work: After a very destructive wind storm here in Southern California two very large trees needed to be removed from my back yard. An important portion of an existing brick wall along my property line was demolished. It was personally significant to me because it had been built by my father in the early 1950's and it was made of bricks that would be difficult to replace, and the bricks were of a unique color and style. Since there were many other important things that I needed to do at the time, I decided to use Brik-Art which was listed in Angie's List of which I am a member. I talked with Craig Beardsley of Brik-Art and discussed my desire to have him rebuild the wrecked portion of the wall as best as possible from the existing bricks, all of which were down and some of which were broken apart, and try to bring that portion of the wall back to it's previous look utilizing as much of the existing brick material as possible. Craig's work schedule was very full at the time, but he worked on my project in-between other of his projects. He understood exactly what I wanted done, came by to see the job, gave me a good estimate for the work to be performed, faxed the contract to me, and most importantly did an excellent job of reconstructing the wall to it's original look - which was no easy task. All of this was done without my even meeting him because my schedule of work and other matters made it impossible for me to take the time to discuss it with him in person. Also of note is that my job was not what one would consider of "major importance" to the usual contractor one would expect to find in the yellow pages. But my project was worked on right away, with complex professionalism, and the finished product was excellently done and looks just great. I highly recommend Brik-Art for their very fine masonry work.

Craig Beardsley was prompt, courteous and very helpful in the initial bid visit. We exchanged emails regarding different details of the job. Craig was prompt and helpful with return emails. He and his foreman met with my neighbor and I and finalized the design and details of construction. During construction, Craig and his foreman were available for ongoing discussion of the work. The rail framing needed to support six foot high boards to the north, and three foots boards to the south over an existing wall. The ends of the fence required a return at the east end to include a four foot high wall and garage. At the west end, a return including a six foot wide yard partition. The job was done perfectly to specification and in a timely manner. After the job was finished, the work area was thoroughly cleaned. I highly recommend Mr. Beardsley and Brik-Art.

The whole experience was professional and pleasant.
Description of Work: They did my backyard patio and did it cleanly and beautifully. Craig suggested to put a round planter at the side to add a little art to it and it works beautifully. His head bricklayer suggested that maybe it can also be used as a firepit and it might actually work. I have a bamboo plant in a half barrel right now so we can lift it out if we want to use it as a fire pit next summer. I love it! They did the construction cleanly and professionally. They finished the work in two days as promised. The price was better compared to other companies. I also asked them to make sure that the brick patio slopes to one corner so water won't pool in the middle. They did a great job!

Craig Beardsley, the proprietor of Brik Art, is so creative and passionate about his craft. It was my luck (and much gratefulness to Angie's List users who added their critiques) that I found him as I needed his ideas, creativity as to both solutions and proposals, and his ability to comprehend what I wanted. My front porch, back patio, brick planters and wainscotting were built with different types of brick. I wanted all to have "used brick". Our first meeting was about two hours long and I knew right away, from his vast experience, creativity, and his photo portfolio that I was in great hands. Craig was able to use his special Brik-Art veneers to convert my brick varieties to a single style without demolishing my current structures and re-building (huge monetary savings). His selection of colors and textures of brick veneers is immense, and along with the ability to custom-make colors and textures, I cannot imagine there being an existing brick or style that he is unable to match. Craig suggested the incorporation of Pennsylvania blue stone (imagine a grey flagstone) to my front porch and the patio bench. Based on photos of brick in my neighborhood of which I am fond, Craig was able to re-create the same look. The combo of the used brick and stone is beautiful and I needed his creativity and experience as I would have never thought of it. The project went according to plan; however, there was a hiccup with affixing the veneers and brick to my walls. The stucco and/or paint on my walls was "rejecting" the cement/adhesive for the brick. So, additional time, labor and mess (scoring the walls was necessary) was added. This was no one's fault. However, because of the debris from the scoring of the walls and the sand from the cement, I was disappointed and puzzled why the ground and my plant and hedges had not been better covered. There was a lot of sand and debris left behind. The is my reason for the B under professionalism rather than an A. I was home on most days throughout the length of the project and it seemed that the entire work day was not used. Hence, my reason for a B under punctuality.
Description of Work: Remove 30' long x 2' brick planter in front yard; Add brick veneer to entire front facing wall of home and around door frame; Add brick wainscotting about 3.5' high around entire perimeter of home; Convert brick planter on back patio to seating bench with blue flagstone top and add brick veneer to sides (over existing brick); Change top of brick front porch to blue flagstone (demo-ing of porch top was not required) while adding brick veneer trim to steps and side (over existing brick).

We purchased a new home and the concrete brick retaining wall surrounding the house was covered with unkempt and untended ivy. When we pulled all the ivy down, we realized that sections of the brick wall were missing and that there were just iron posts there to support the ivy. This left us very exposed to the street at these sections. (My two year old could have hopped the wall in these low places!). The wall itself was probably erected a good 30-40 years. We wanted someone who would be able to match the existing concrete bricks perfectly so it would look seamless. Enter Craig Beardsley from Brik-Art. This man knows brick! He was extremely knowledgeable about the materials used to construct our wall and came up with several suggestions as to how to fix the problem. He was prompt and knowledgeable and moreover, he is passionate about his work. He came out for free, spent a good hour going over the different options, and we had a quote the next day. He gave us money saving options that felt very fair, and we booked him right on the spot. One of his competitors in LA wanted us to pay $50 just for the estimate. I told him no thanks. We booked Craig on Labor Day, and he and his crew started on Tuesday did 90% of the work in one day and then came back the next to finish the job. Our new wall sections look seamless! He also raised the existing wall in places so that we were actually at 6' and replaced all the caps as well. We are thrilled.

They did a wonderful job matching it to the rest of the bricks on the other walls. They are meticulous with their work. Was quite happy with them.
