Ray was initially reluctant to return my phone calls. After finally talking with him he did come out and examined the hedge for removal and disposal, examined our sprinkler system and sketched a diagram of a proposal for landscaping our back yard. He said he would get back with me with estimates for each service. After a week of not getting back I left a phone message. Now it is 10 days after the initial visit and I still have not heard from him.

Response from R & R Landscape Services Inc
Ok fair enough, let me provide an explanation. I was contacted by the home owner for a project to be done in Moorpark, I asked specifics about the job and I explained that Moorpark was too far for us to go and that if all he needed was to remove a hedge and repair a sprinkler he could have a gardener or someone local take care of it, I even explained over the phone how he could repair the leak he had. The Angie's list member added then that I should remove Ventura county from areas that I service, I explained that we did service Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks especially if the jobs were big enough where we can be competitive. Finally the Angie's list member added that he wanted to re landscape the entire back yard. So I agreed to meet him, on arrival as I suspected the leak was at a gasket in the valve leaking water to the lowest sprinkler head. As a complement, something that I never do myself, I gave it a quick fix by dis assemblying it flipping the gasket and re assemblying it, I explained that it would have to be replaced ASAP. THERE WAS NO CHARGE FOR THIS. We continued to the hedge removal which is what I expected, a small job of a couple hours and finally he led me to the back yard and explined that he and his wife wanted a Japanese garden. I continued to sketching and measuring the back yard and when his wife came out to greet me she was upset because she was not aware of the back yard relandscape project. The Angie's list member never told her about his intentions and she went on scolding him saying that this was at the bottom of her project's list. I felt very akward since this is the first time it's happened. So I continued to finish the drawing and I told him I would design something and e mail it to him at no charge if we got the job as we always do. True he did call me and left a message regarding the urgency of repairing the leak and removing the hedge. We are currently working on six design projects all of which require all of my attention, on top of that I am designing and meeting with other clients, on average I alone attend about eight to ten appointments per week, my turn around time is usually five to seven days for estimates and design ideas which are free of charge which I think it's pretty good. The best line of communication for me as I always emphasize is e mail and texting because on average I make and recieve about 60-100 calls a day. We are not complaining belive me Angie's list has been good to us and we are trying to not dissapoint or make anyone feel neglected. My final explanation to This Angie's list member we have been busy apologies for not getting back to you sooner, you should have recieved the estimate since I already sent it, but also in the future if a contractor says you can get a better price from someone local its' the contractor saying from experience since it is just a clean up and new gasket. Probably better that you not try to entice the contractor with a bigger job your wife has not yet approved. I want to thank all of our Angie's list members for keeping this website real and this angie's list member for the cookies you gave my three year old son RAY JR. SINCERELY, RAY REYES

Ray was very nice, professional and thorough. His estimates (I changed the parameters on him a couple of times) were very detailed and fair. I went back to Ray with questions more than once, and he was very responsive and patient throughout. I ended up going with a different landscaper who was recommended through a friend and that has worked out well. But I would not hesitate to use R&R should any other projects come up.

Rey gave us a fair estimate for landscaping the back yard. At the time of the estimate, Rey demonstrated a thorough understanding of the Agoura HIlls climate and soil and suggested plants that would thrive in our dry heat and clay soil. He also recommended soil amendment for the lawn. He had many problem solving ideas for hill erosion, the need for shade and design elements that would provide beauty and function with our dogs and children. Work began promptly on the day Rey said it would begin. After the grass was dead, his crew of 2 men worked tirelessly in 100+ degree heat to remove the lawn and boulders left from a water feature. The crew installed new irrigation (and quickly fixed the pool water fill pipe they inadvertently broke). Rey and I went to the nursery to make a plant list . Once the plants arrived the install was completed in a day or so. In the process, we decided to add a fountain which we ordered on our own. Without a problem, Rey's crew installed a concrete slab in one of the flower beds so the bed would be ready for the fountain delivery. When one of the outdoor lights stopped working, Rey sent his crew to fix it promptly. The backyard is beautiful. We know it will take awhile for the ground cover to fill in and the shrubs to grow, but the yard already looks great. Rey stands by his work and finished the job within our budget, producing a great result. We highly recommend R & R Landscape.

They did a really good job. They were polite. They had the same crew every day but they had a different crew for different work. It was the same guys for the retaining wall and different guys for the pavers but they were consistent. I really liked them and they did a great job. The price was good. They were nice to work with and I would use them again.

It took a while for me to make the decision to go ahead with the work from the time Ray initially visited my property and gave me the quote. And, he was very busy with a lot of different jobs. So, in the beginning it was a lot of back and forth phone calls and waiting and clarification, but once I was ready and he had cleared the way, the work progressed just as he had promised. I had done my homework and gotten other quotes so i knew - even though his wasnt the lowest - that I was getting value for my money. He's a great customer service guy, really professional - everything on the up and up and no cutting corners. He really went out of his way to be sure i was okay - and i had a lot of questions as the job went on. He answered them all in a timely and clear manner. His guys are hardworking....really. This was no easy job but every one who appeared during the different stages and kinds of work were a pleasure to deal with. Friendly, forthcoming and always a ready smile. Considering the digging and breaking up of concrete that had to be done, this was no small thing. Good guys.
Description of Work: Extended existing slump stone wall to enclose back and both rear sides of yard; installed vinyl fencing on two front sides of yard; broke up and repaired portion of front concrete walkway that had been raised due to roots from olive tree.

We bought a house a year ago and loved it but the back yard needed a pretty big overhaul. The previous owners had not used the space well and put up to many walls, a pond that took up way to much room and a bbq island that was not very user friendly. I called three places for estimates. The first one wanted to charge me $1500 up front for plans, um no. The second, a large well known company, was all about the hard sell and wanted me to sign on the spot and didnt really listen to what I wanted done. Then I called Ray and that was that. He listened to all I wanted to do, added in some thoughts and ideas of his own and we were on our way. I had read every review on here and had figured he would be the guy to use, just needed to talk to him to make sure. His crew is very professional and work pretty fast. Ray and I communicated at least 2-3 times a week on what was going on and what was going to happen next. The most fun was plant shopping day with Ray as we drove around in a cart and picked out all our plants and trees and he gave us his recomendations and also told us if he thought what we were picking out would make sense as well. His knowledge of plants and trees is amazing!! He did go a bit over his completion date, but I didnt mind. If something turns out perfect its worth it. If you are torn between who to use, pick up the phone and go with Ray, you will be glad you did!!

Description of Work: I wish I could post a photo of the outdoor kitchen that Ray and his team did for me. It's amazing. I really liked them, especially the owner -- he was really very good. His crew worked from 8am-6pm every day and finished the work on time. There was a minor problem but they came and fixed it. They were very clean and friendly and did the work well. Of all the people I’ve had come to my house to do work, they were the best. No complaints.

Ray and his crew did a fantastic job. They came as we were told and did everything according to the plan. I was very impressed by the crew who took out our very tall tree in the back yard despite electric lines very close by. Every day they cleaned up the mess. The crew worked very hard and answered all my questions along the way. The job took about three weeks from start to finish.
Description of Work: We had our whole front yard redone with new drought tolerant planting, new smaller lawn, sprinklers and new entryway. Also the side yard was updated with new plants. A very large tree was taken out in the back and replaced with another tree. One tree was taken out in the front and replaced by two other ones. The lawn by the side walk was replaced with drought tolerant plants.

Let me first address why there is no pricing rating or information. I simply don't want to give out the amount we paid and what I thought of the total price. I'd rather comment on the job and what we got for our investment. This review has been due for a while but this project has been tricky and has one lingering issue. Let me talk about Ray and his team. Ray is very professional and has excellent client skills. He has done a ton of work and it shows with his knowledge of plants, irrigation, and some concrete work. We did a big job (in our eyes) with Ray. The entire yard was completely removed (except for the pool and koi pond) and redone from scratch including custom paver pouring, a new irrigation system, and a fire pit where the gas line had to be run. At the onset of the job I told Ray that we don't like surprises and if there is anything that could cause a change in price that we need to decide on a course of action at that moment, not after the fact. True to that statement, Ray made sure we knew the situation every step of the way. Certain things required more work and in some cases Ray took that on, others created a financial need, and others were consolidations we needed to make. It was all managed very well with a very open level of communication. Ray took time to make sure my wife was happy with the plants that we wanted to get and went shopping with her personally as we are -very- choosy on how we want things done. Once all the demo and prep was done their concrete people came and poured a ton of concrete onto the ground. I say prep work like it's easy but it was a very tricky job since I did all the design via CAD and had specific size and design requirements. The team had to lay out a ton of 2x4s which took quite a bit of time. They were very thorough in their work and it allowed for the concrete to really come through in a fantastic result. I was late to work the day of the pour because I was so excited to see it come together!! We picked a very dark color from Davis concrete colors. This proved to be the one thing where an issue still remains. Ray's concrete people were not as clear as I would like them to have been on the need for a sealant to maintain the color of the concrete. We now need to seal (a year later) in order to remove quite a bit of spotting and deal with an aesthetic we don't like. However, the actual concrete itself looks great and it's something I am chalking up to a learning experience at this point. Ray's team then took on the task of building the fire pit. It was much more work than any of us thought but once again Ray and his team made sure we were happy with the result, which we are. Concrete is a very tricky thing to deal with on vertical surfaces, and let's just keep it at that. Planting all the greenery was next and it was done well and with my wife making sure we got what we wanted. The entire time, the team was very nice and personable with her. It was a good feeling to be able to leave a team of people at home and have my wife look in on them from time to time and not have them be frustrated by this process as has happened in the past with other contractors. Why did this review take so long to write? Well, it's been nearly a year since the work was completed and I wanted to wait a while. In that time, Ray has been back a few times to deal with maintenance issues and he has been excellent about providing very good follow through on his work. His level of service post-completion has been exemplary and I wish that other contractors would take notice of his attention to customer satisfaction. He has answered every phone call, email and text I have sent him with knowledge and ETA of people for fixing the issues that popped up. I would absolutely use R&R Landscaping again, in a heartbeat. I am actually looking forward to calling Ray out again to deal with an area around the back of our house, but it's another big job and we're saving up for it to do it properly. Big or small, I would not hesitate to call Ray and his team out for an estimate and work. You will be very pleased by his personality and also his team of friendly and dedicated workers.

We could not have asked for more. Ray and his crew went above and beyond our expectations. There were complications in the project, yet Ray and his crew over came the obstacles and completed the job without incident or need to increase cost. They were timely and professional. Ray ensured that we were updated throughout the process. They left our property better than when they arrived. They were neat and cleaned up every evening before they left. Ray was open to our requests and wants. Even though our job was small by comparison, we never felt like we were treated less than a bigger, higher paying job. We would highly recommend Ray and his crew to anyone. Thank you Ray and crew for creating a backyard space that will be used and enjoyed for years to come.

Ray and his crew are very professional-on time for appointments and work and very tidy around the work area, cleaning up at the end of each day. Their work is exceptional. Ray listens to all concerns and ideas and adjusts accordingly. We were extremely happy with both the experience and results. We were so pleased in fact, that we are having them relandscape 2 of our other properties-both quite extensive jobs. They are very high on our recommendation list.
Description of Work: We have a very steep hillside for a backyard along with a pool and were in desperate need of landscaping and soil retention. We had them completely landscape and build retaining walls, including facing the existing walls and reworking some of the concrete decking. We also had them install landscape lighting, seal the concrete deck, thin and shape a carrotwood tree and trim a large palm (that is now absolutely beautiful)!

Ray and his crew were an absolute delight to work with. This was, without question, the most positive experience we have ever had with a contractor. Ray really listened to what we wanted and, somehow, always remembered every detail of what we asked him to do. He had great design ideas and a real vision for how to transform our property. His crew always showed up on time on the days they were scheduled. They were very polite and respectful and worked extremely hard to make sure the job was done correctly and on schedule. Our project took approximately 6 weeks to complete. We absolutely love our new backyard and patios. We have no complaints whatsoever; we are 150% thrilled with the result of Ray's professionalism, attention to detail, and obvious desire to satisfy us. I would recommend Ray in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of back yard including large patio, pool deck, pool coping, new landscaping, drainage and relocation of pool equipment. Hardscaping included installation of extensive stonework: long patio, steps, decorative stone bands on pool deck, pool coping, and on wall behind the pool. Installed new concrete on pool deck and rebuilt steps leading from two areas of home onto patio. Created a beautiful new large planting bed where pool equipment was formerly situated. Relocated pool equipment to back hillside and built a block wall partially enclosing and hiding equipment. Also remodeled a courtyard to include pavers, landscaping, new sprinklers, lighting, and large pergola. Added new trees and some shrubs to front and side of home.

This was easily the single best experience I have ever had with a contractor. Ray came to the house promptly to evaluate the job. He was pleasant and professional. He understood what I wanted, drew up a plan that looked great and went to work within a few days to execute it. His guys were here all day every day throughout the project and were pleasant and unobtrusive. As the project went along, my husband and I changed the placement of the door and asked Ray to connect the hardscape to the nearby driveway - the changes were executed with no fuss. Throughout the process, no detail was overlooked, no offhand comment or request I made was forgotten. The whole experience was exactly what any homeowner would wish for, and, by the way, the courtyard looks spectacular!
Description of Work: Ray started from scratch with a courtyard area. He did the design, planned the hardscape and planting, added irrigation, built a fence and gate and completed the installation of hard and soft scape.

Ray Reyes was great to work with from the get go. We originally met to discuss completely re-landscape my backyard, but I was unclear on what I wanted. Ray brought a lot of great ideas to the table, and was incredibly attentive and patient with my indecisiveness. In the end, I still couldn't make up my mind about the design of the yard, but we went ahead and did the fence. Ray said it would take 8 days and it only took a day or two beyond that - because I added a few things along the way. The workers were fantastic. They put this fence up during the HOTTEST heat-wave, and worked really hard. They were all so nice and professional - a real pleasure to work with. The fence looks AWESOME - they added 2x4 rails to the top and bottom - the look is very clean and upscale - and the construction is really sturdy and beautiful. I couldn't be happier, and will continue to work with Ray and his crew to finish the rest of my yard, deck and driveway.

Were initially contacted by the member a few months ago in regards to general landscaping and design ideas. I drew a quick drawing trying to address all needs and all areas of the yard. After another meeting I didn't hear back from the member which I thought, hmmm maybe they went another direction? Well turns out they didn't , we agreed on a clean up and fence for starters as the member has to address other projects to the house as well. I have to say on behalf of my crew and I, it was pleasure working on this job. We were given the freedom to be creative and it was very easy to communicate with the member. We were on the same page throughout the project. Oh ! And the members gave us free drinks through out the project. I thought that was very thoughtful. Would love to go back and do the next stages of this project, great people to work with!

R&R Landscaping is a quality company! Punctually returned phone calls. All appointments kept and on-time. All work done in a high-quality, up-to-code (and beyond) fashion. I've now got a great new concrete driveway and properly-repaired cinder block boundary wall. In addition, I recently had them back for an additional bit of concrete work. They had it done and curing within 24 hours of my phone call asking them to come out! We had a great experience with the services of Ray and his company, R&R Landscaping! The timing was right, the price was fair, and the workers left the site as clean as possible. WE COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!!

We were contacted by the member and set up an appointment early morning. After we discussed his needs which included new concrete driveway with additional concrete areas in the backyard, block wall repair and removing unwanted trees. This was very straight forward job , I gave the member a verbal estimate and later that day I e- mailed the estimate. There was a lot of concern on the members part because of past unpleasant experiences with contractors. I addressed his concerns as best as possible and was asked for referrals. We provided a list of non member referrals. During my meeting I explained that I was slightly higher than most contentractors out there because we carry more insurance and over head than most contractors out there but it pays off at the end and I believe he was quite relieved and satisfied withe outcome.

Absolutely beautiful job. Ray and his team were the upmost professional. They turned our backyard into an outdoor paradise. We are now using them for weekly maintenance and when its time to redo our front yard, we have our team in place to do it. No need to look any further when it comes to hardscape and landscape. Thank you for such a great review, we were contacted by the member as a referral from a fellow contractor. In our first appointment the member explained the needs for their outdoor entertaining and came up with a plan for the backyard renovation which included the pool, new deck, salt system, BBQ , irrigation, landscaping and lighting. After our second appointment I had presented my plan and estimate. A few days later we broke ground. We were up front with the budget, time frame and other than afew change orders along the way we stuck to it and finished on time. This has always been our trade mark and we pledge to stick to it as this makes everything less painfull. I will say this, I hope the member puts up pictures of this backyard especially the BBQ which is on of the largest islands we have built. And always truly a pleasure working with this member. Ray

It was not a good fit. We did not gel on what he wanted to do and what we wanted done. He did show us on his laptop several different jobs that he had done and that was nice but he had more of a southwestern touch and that was not what we were looking for.
Description of Work: They gave us an estimate for landscaping and some concrete work. He could do pavers but we did not feel he was up to pouring a full driveway.

We met the Member and her husband last year, unfortunately we did not have any pictures of concrete with the exception of one, most were from pavers we had done. There is a reason why and I believe that was explained during the meeting. In June of 2009 our shop, yard and office was broken into I was working late in the office. I left at 1:00 a.m. At 6:30 a.m. I discovered we had been burglarized. We lost thousands of dollars in equipment and worst of all They stole my laptop and back up hardrive that I had left backing up the night before. It was a crippling blow to our business because all the jobs we had cataloged in pictures throughout the years were gone along with my families baby pictures. I managed to recuperate information and old pics from my desk top pc that had crashed 3 years earlier and thats what we had to work with last year. Fortunately thanks to Angies list we have been working in many projects since and have been compiling additional pictures to show our clients. I only wish we could get our family pics back. RAY

We sodded the backyard for the member, after going back and forth between St. Augustine and Marathon, I explained the advantages and disadvantages between both, she selected St. Augustine. We had issues with repairing a sprinkler and raising the others for proper grade which was not included in the estimate. However after a couple trips back to make corrections all was satisfactory for our client, no extra charge.

Went very well. What more can you ask of a contractor other than: 1. Safety-conscious 2. Knowledgeable 3. Thorough 4. On-time 5. On-budget These guys were professional, hard-working, and good communicators. No big surprises and small ones were handled efficiently. Definitely recommend.
Description of Work: Built two retaining walls on hillside lot. Reinforced existing retaining wall. Some assorted landscape work (re-potting plants, tree trimming, planted a new tree, etc.).

This has to be one of the jobs that goes as smooth as can be. We were contacted by the member some time in May of last year. During the meeting we discussed a retaining wall, some minor landscaping and clean up. A year later we are contacted by the member again, after our second meeting we made a revised estimate that included additional work. The most difficult part was comunication as the member was at work during the day. However we managed to stay in touch through technology in smart phones. We at R&R are constantly in touch with all our clients and employees through any means available and if when we can't visualize what the other person is talking about over the phone. Take a picture and MMS, a picture says a thousand words. And even though our estimate was a year old and prices in some materials have risen. We stuck by it.

We asked several contractors from Angie's List to provide an estimate for a backyard patio hard-scape (at least four). No one responded. I called one back anyway and got a very high quote over the phone, leading me to believe he did not want the job. R&R provided a fast and reasonable estimate to install paver stones, including a refinish of our back door landing. We had some back and forth to ensure the full scope of the job was within R&Rs bid, before settling on price. We signed near the end of August; the job completed in September because of delays by the Patio installers. R&R service was timely and they coordinated with the pergola installers to accommodate the placement of footings. We were happy with the job and would be comfortable hiring R&R in the future.
Description of Work: Pavers were installed over approximately 400 sq ft. Some existing concrete was demolished and hauled away. The patio area was graded for a specific slope to direct water in two directions. Irrigation valves were relocated. Footings for a patio cover were coordinated with another contractor.

We met with the member and she explained the overall scope of the project, we understood exactly what was expected and made a couple of suggestions for grading and installation patterns of the paver. The patio cover contractor was having issues with the city permit and was deataining the job, we went to the city hall and clarified the issues with zoning, contacted the homeowner and problem solved at no extra cost. Our goal is the home owners' goal which is to finish the job as fast as possible with the best quality possible. we are proud of that.
