Very solid and he earns our respect with his candid input and great knowledge in real estate and ways to improve a property's value. Thank you Ray!
Description of Work: Ray came over and gave us a ballpark estimate and ideas on building retaining walls on our steep back slope. Plus upon our asking, he gave us great ideas on the potential to build a new pool house on our vacant land.

Response from R & R Landscape Services Inc
I met the member at his house and there was an extensive discussion about the projects at at hand and than upon surveying the property the member asked me a question about a possible option of adding a pool and a pool house. I gave him my honest response though it may not have been advantageous to my business. Myself being in real estate investment I advised him that he would get a better return on his investment or more bang for the buck if he built a pool house more square footage on a structure will always increase the value of the house more than curb appeal. I may have lost a job but I gained a friend and my conscience is clear.

Although the job was delayed a short time due to inclement weather, it was finished quickly once work commenced. It has provided us with an extra room to the house, and one that is used more of the time than the living room, dining room and kitchen. Everybody spends all their time out there. The work is of high quality, and all according to code. It is a very appreciated addition to our home.
Description of Work: Ray's group tore down an old slatted patio cover, and installed a completely covered roof over the patio.

Ray's brother Ricardo was excellent. He was very precise with how he wanted the repair and design to be. His measurements were very accurate and he had a good eye for design and what the finished product would look like. He completed the project in one day and I am very satisfied with the outcome and Ricardo. Unfortunately arranging for the actual repair was not so pleasant. From the beginning Ray's communication was poor at best. He said he would provide me with the initial bid on a set day and I called the next day to find out if he had completed it, which he had not. I was the one that had to initiate the "status" for the project as I did not hear from him. On May 15th I asked him if he had a date when the wood would be delivered so the painters could start staining and he informed me that he did not. On the 18th, I again asked him if he had a date for delivery, which he did not. On May 20th I asked him the status of the delivery to which he replied "Please give me more time I will give you notice once I have the lumbar with me." That day he later responded that the wood would be delivered the next day. When the painters were done staining the wood I notified Ray that he could begin the project and suggested May 28th. He showed up at my house on the 24th unannounced and seemed to be upset that he couldn't get in the back yard. He suggested that for the future I should give him my cell phone number which I already gave him on the 20th of May. The final straw was when he stated "I would like to get this job done ASAP" "This is what I was afraid of as far as coordinating this project" meaning coordinating with the painters. The painters called me every day asking when they could start so I didn't appreciate his comment and most of all his lack of, and poor communication throughout the project.

Response from R & R Landscape Services Inc
I had a feeling going into this one I was going to get burned. This was a horrible experience for me as well, I am a very easy going person and I'm easier to communicate with. In my initial appointment with the angies list member I was under the impression that we were going to rebuild her pergola as it was in terrible condition. It was 60-70% rotted but the angies list member wanted to save money so we ended up replacing a post and the lathing. I gave an estimate for the lattice and painting. Once again the quote was adjusted because her painter was going to get involved and that is not a problem at all it's just that I noted the member was very particular about her schedule and timing. And we were swamped dealing with larger projects. We were caught off guard by the amount of calls and projects that we have received, we credit angies list members for this of course. In any case our communication wasn't the best I would e mail and get responses a day or two later. I would leave messages on her answering machine and get responses at the end of the day. The member did provide her cel number. Unfortunately my assistant forgot to provide it to me. During this time my new assistant was getting more involved in responding my emails and relaying the messages along with answering some e mails for me to make my the business run smoother. We have made all the necessary adjustments and everything is running very smooth. We have hired additional qualified personnel, my assistant has adjusted very well with the business and contributes greatly to the company. To me this was the case of a client that required us to give her an exact time and date for delivery of materials and start date as she had the gate under lock all the time. I had to special order the materials as they had to be milled and I depended a lot on the lumbers' schedule. My experience with most clients is that there is a sense of trust and either we receive information on access to the property or the gate is left open during the work ours for us to access. As far as showing up unannounced I sent her an email explaining that we had finished a project earlier than expected and that we would be able to start the project on an early afternoon. Any contractor will tell you that your situation and availability changes by the hour as traffic and completion of projects are a big variable in scheduling day in and day out. I try and keep my clients updated as best as I can and communication plays a big part in this. Every now and then you drop the ball but we adjust and correct so that it doesn't happen again. This member could of simply picked up the phone and called me if our initial line of communication failed. There is calling, texting, emailing if one fails we try the next until we connect. I did get frustrated in this case but in the end I apologized to the member for the miscommunication various times and offered a discount in the final invoice for her troubles. The member rejected it, I believe we were both at fault and that something that should have been nothing turned into something big. If you check my reviews we are very easy and flexible, once again we communicate through text, email and phone. we are committed to giving 110% every single day and I think our reviews reflect that.

I had an overwhelming problem on a boundary block wall (7 to 8 feet high) which was leaning towards my neighbor. My property sits higher than the neighbors property. I had already interviewed other contractors and none that provided adequate suggestions. Ray came in and gave me several solutions to repair the problem. I liked what he suggested and his willingness to help me with cost. I picked what I thought would make my neighbors and myself happy. The wall was not the only problem. The neighbors had to be happy as well. It was a mess of a job and I was anticipating all kinds of messy details. We agreed to a plan and I have to say that he was incredible. He accomplished the task of repairing the wall in a swift, efficient, clean and beautiful manner. Once he agreed he game me a timeline and he wasted no time in getting started. Once he did it all went very fast. His workers are respectful, courteous, neat, hard working and I could not have been happier. The new wall looks so much more attractive and has added incredible value to the house. He knows how to improve and beautify a property. He is not only a contractor but a visionary of the finished product. There are so many components to the wall that he did that make it so good. He provided a wall with engineered drainage, a working bilge pump to insure that the problem never happens again. A beautifully designed wall, with electrical components, a gas outlet for barbeque later, and most important landscaping details that make the once ugly area more beautiful. He is a wonderful contractor that I will be forever grateful to for relieving me of a gigantic problem at the time. I would like to add that the City Inspector came in and said it was quite a good job and signed off on it. I would hire him again in a minute.

Ray Reyes, the owner, on his first visit, after a look around and a brief question and answer session, took out a pencil and pad and sketched out a design that I immediately could visualize and pretty much agreed to on the spot. The project consisted of: - Demolition and removal of a very large section of concrete in the back of the yard. - Taking down and removing 2 trees (one large, one small). - Installation of a concrete patio attached to the back of the house, a new pathway on one side to the back of the garage and a pad covering a dirt section adjacent to the house on the West side. - Installation of a latticed redwood patio cover. - Replacement of old and addition of new sprinkler heads. - Digging of new flower beds - along the garage wall, back and side walls - with very attractive curved edges. - And after a visit with Ray to a nursery to discuss plant/shrub choices....the planting of all plants and shrubs. - In addition, per our request, the crew dug out a number of rose plants in our front yard and found a place for them in the back AND planted a large number of new roses as well as a small tree in the front of the house. - Complete mulching of the new flowerbeds. - Also, replacement of a wire fence with a redwood one and repair and rehanging of a side entrance gate. The crews doing all this work were very efficient, very courteous and most pleasant to have around, and clean-up in between was part of the routine. We couldn't have had a better experience! Thanks to Ray and his crews we are thoroughly enjoying our, now beautiful, backyard and would recommend R & R Landscaping to anyone who'd ask.
Description of Work: We engaged R & R to totally transform a very unattractive backyard into a comfortable and visually attractive outdoor extension of our house, which indeed they did. In addition, they replaced a large section of wire fence with a redwood fence and repaired the gate to the side yard.

I contacted Ray in mid-November for complete landscaping of my back yard: approx 50' X 100". It was a blank slate, mostly weeds and dirt unevenly sloped from an existing patio to the bottom of the yard. I was very impressed with his professionalism and his willingness to work with the plan that I had drawn up with another landscape designer. If I had been more familiar with the process I would have hired him for that too because as we talked, I really liked his ideas. But he took my plans and went to work. His crew was so nice. Very easy to work with and willing to make necessary changes as we went along. They talked me through every step of the way. Part of the grading process meant a small retaining wall for a planting area and a few steps from the existing patio down to the DG Crete pathway, plus arranging the existing boulders into a useful and attractive retainer from one level to the other. I inherited a ten year old spa with the house and part of the project was to move it to the lower part of the yard. They laid a pavered pad, ran the electrical then moved the spa. Then they installed a DG Crete pathway from the spa around the perimeter of the yard. The final project was to lay the sod and plant the trees. The day it was completed, they walked me through the irrigation system and the watering schedule. The project took about a month. It would have been less time but we had several days of rain, and the holidays also. Otherwise, they showed up early every day and worked until the sun went down. My yard has been transformed - I can't wait for my first yard party! I love, love, love it! Thank you Ray & crew!
Description of Work: Grading; Irrigation, sprinklers throughout property; electrical lines run: 220 for spa and 120 for lighting. Paver pad laid for spa; paver steps for slope areas; DG Crete pathway around perimeter of yard with bender board to define planter areas. Hardscaping: retaining wall, boulder arrangement, gravel areas for shed and around trees. Sod laid and trees planted.

Response from R & R Landscape Services Inc
I actually agree with the member, at our first appointment I met with the members' spouse. We basicly had to correct another contractors' mistakes. I indicated that we were busy and even offered to give him one of my employees number that might possibly do the job on the side. But I gave the member an estimate anyway. We did have a weeks delay to start there was some phone tag in which I had the members cel number and home number both of which I left messages and I would always get a call back at my office by the members spouse which I could not understand since my cel number was given to them. We did have a weeks delay because one of my crews was behind schedule at another project. There was stonework involved, minor concrete decking, landscaping and irrigation obviously one crew cannot do it all and sometimes there is some space in timing till I get another crew out there particularly if we are busy to begin with. There could have been better comunication but I believe it went both ways. When there is a project involved, it's like dancing or composing a song both partners have to be in sync as well as the instruments and I believe we never quite connected well with the client which is uncommon because that is usually my forte. In any case we'll just have to work on that a little harder.

As usual, Ray and his guys were a joy to work with - low-key, professional, doing excellent work in a timely fashion and keeping and great communication with us. Our eyesore of a yard is now a gorgeous oasis of calm. Pix to come! Thank you Ray!
Description of Work: This is the second time we've used R&R... this time, it was for "Phase II" of our massive, 1600 square foot garden renovation. In phase one (2011), they cleared the giant overgrown hill that was our backyard, cleaned up the massive trees that hadn't been trimmed in years, graded the hill, built wooded terraces, built a fence to enclose the whole yard, and dug and installed a three level irrigation system. This time they planned and beautifully executed cobblestone work on 2 levels, built a large redwood pergola on our upper terrace, planted trumpet vine along our retaining wall, trimmed trees, and changed many of the sprinklers to drip irrigation.

After meeting with 3 highly recommended landscapers I found on Angies List, I decided to go with Ray Reyes and R&R Landscape Services. His price was right about in the middle, but after meeting him, we felt like he understood what we wanted. We had a large mature Ash tree in a confined space, and the root system took over about 1/4 of our useable outdoor space and was growing toward the foundation. Ray's team spent 4 days erasing any remnants of the tree from our backyard. Once the tree was gone it was clear there was no cohesiveness in the plant selection in the yard, and 1/2 the lawn disappeared due to the tree roots. We decided to remove the lawn and everything else (which wasn't much) and start anew. This is where Ray's talents really came in. Landscape Design and Plant selection. We live in the San Fernando valley, where it can get really hot and stay there for 6 weeks without a break. Ray grew up in this area and he has superior knowledge of what plants, trees, shrubs, succulents, etc. are going to thrive and what won't. We met him at a private nursery and he took us around the property on a golf cart and he showed us all of the plants he suggested. We worked with him to create a vibrant color and texture pallate. We ended up with a beautifully designed backyard mixing beautiful white roses with Agave and succulents, Kangaroo Palms and many other plants and shrubs (with names I'd never remember let alone pronounce correctly) ,a lot of color and textures, and everything Ray suggested we plant is thriving. He even managed to get my wife her herb garden and suggested where we should plant it in order for it to thrive (under a few trees - brilliant). His crew showed up every day and worked hard. We extended our patio area by pouring new concrete, which was Ray's suggestion, and though we initially were hesitant, we're so glad we listened to him. I wanted to wait at least 3 months from the time Ray completed the job until I wrote this review, because I'm pretty good at killing a plant within 90 days, and I wanted to see if all these would die out too. He made our yard Me-proof. The yard is thriving, the grass is lush and strong, and we couldn't be happier. I was so impressed with his crew, that we kept them on for gardening services and they have done a fantastic job maintaining the yard. Ray's a busy guy. His phone seemed to ring non-stop whenever he came by. I always found that the best way to get a quick answer from him was by email or text.
Description of Work: Back Yard - Remove existing Ash Tree, huge stump and root system, remove all Yuccas, lawn, shrubs, plants, install new lawn, plants, shrubs, fruit trees, shade tree, irrigation, electrical and accent lighting. Pour concrete to extend patio area. Cut out concrete and create planting areas, add irrigation. Front Yard - remove cracked concrete walkway and replace.

When Ray came out to view the site and look at the architect's plans, he was able to show me extensive photos of work he'd done. It was immediately clear that he was able to work in a variety of architectural styles AND that he could tell the difference between them. (In our case, the architect had drawn up a plan meant to match our modern kitchen, and we wanted to make sure that whoever did the backyard understood that.) Also, our drainage in the backyard was so bad that our living room had flooded the previous year, and of all the people who bid on the project, Ray had the strongest ideas about how to fix it. He was even able to describe--and show me photos of--a similar situation he had just addressed for another client. Finally, he was able to help us find reasonable ways to cut costs but still get the right look, like using redwood for the fence, but more expensive mangaris for the bench. His bid was prompt, and though it wasn't the cheapest, it was the most thorough. Once we hammered out a few details, work started right away. We were so impressed with Ray's crew. Every person Ray sent to work on the house was conscientious, talented, and polite. On the first day, which involved clearing trees and brush, the workers performed like acrobats, making sure no branches fell in the neighbors' yards. We actually saw some workers CHEERING for each other when a particularly difficult tree came down. That level of attention and effort continued through the project. Ray is absolutely exacting, and he expects the same from everyone who works for him. Parts of our project were really difficult and unconventional. For example, the tile plan from our architect required the tiles to be at an unusual angle to match the kitchen floor, and two different tiles had to be integrated in a way that required placing each individual tile according to the drawing (there was really no pattern to follow). There were also a few floating tiles in the yard, and most edges of the patios had to be jagged, matching the shape of whole tiles, rather than cut straight. In spite of challenges like these, Ray and his crew made sure everything got done right. They never took the easy way out or asked us to compromise--they always made sure they delivered what they had promised, and sometimes more. Throughout the project, it was clear that Ray communicates really well with his staff. We could exchange emails with him at night, and whoever showed up to work the next morning would be fully up to date. Likewise, if issues came up during the day, Ray would often phone us or even show up in person before we even realized a phone call had been made. R&R Landscape did truly impeccable work for us, and we feel confident that it is not just beautiful, but also sound. We have the utmost respect for Ray, and he has put together an amazing team.
Description of Work: Ray's crew did extensive work for us: installing a retaining wall in the backyard, building metal frame/horizontal wood fencing on two sides of the property (including necessary curbs and retaining walls), building three gates to match, building a bbq and a wooden bench, pouring and tiling two patios, pouring two sidewalks, installing a French drain, installing additional drain pipes, removing trees and brush as necessary, planting a hedge of Carolina cherries along the retaining wall in the backyard, clearing ivy off a hillside and replanting it with ceanothus & manzanita, adding and adjusting sprinklers to accommodate the new footprint of the yard, and re-sodding the yard.

Here's how our project went: First they removed all of the plants and ground cover along the north west side of the our house. Then they trenched along the foundation, applied a sealer and installed a polyurethane liner. They cut the roof overhang back to 2 feet along the front porch, removed the knee braces, and installed flashing. Next they extended an existing drainage system about 120 linear feet installing new drains below the patio areas, connected four perimeter downspouts to the drainage system, and they added new drains in the back yard. They relocated the valves for controlling the sprinkler system and a hose connector. They removed the old termite infected patio cover and installed new footers for the new patio cover. They poured a concrete reinforced foundation for the installation of the new brick patio's and brick walkways around the perimeter of the house. They layed the bricks on the patios and walkways. They built a new redwood patio cover. They removed the brick stairs to the front entrance of our home, they discovered the wood joists under the front door entrance was rotted. We had the area repaired by a foundation company. Then they rebuilt the brick stairs to the front door. They installed a 20 ft redwood fence along our back patio. They next replaced a drain pipe that rain along the side of our garage and driveway. They had to cut into the concrete to expose the old drain and discovered that the pipe was completely filled with a root from a pine tree that had been removed years ago. They installed a drain by the side of the garage in a low spot. Finally, they installed a raised planter bed, they graded and amended the soil and planted lots of plants and ground cover. Our project took a month to complete. It was a lot of work and we are tired just thinking about it, but we couldn't be happier with the outcome. The new brick patio and walkways look great. The new raised planter bed was a wonderful addition. They saved a large trumpet vine that is beginning to grow on the new patio cover and will probably cover it this summer. As we have a hillside property, drainage is always a potential problem, and that is one issue we no longer will need to be concerned about. Thank you Ray and crew. Ray's crew members were always very professional and they kept the job site pretty clean, despite having it rain several times in the beginning of the project when we had mostly exposed soil, so it was quite muddy. Overall we are thrilled with the end result of our projected and were impressed with the craftmanship and work ethic of Ray and his crew and we highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They expanded an existing brick patio and installed brick walkways around our home. They trenched around the foundation of the home, sealed, and water proofed the area, prior to installing brick walkways. They cut back a roof overhang and removed the knee braces over one of the walkways. They replaced the brick stairs leading to the front entrance of our home. They installed a large redwood patio cover. They fixed our drainage system by extending our front yard drain system to the back yard, installed drains under the new brick patio areas, and they tied in all of the perimeter rain gutters so that water flows directly into the drainage system and to the street rather than onto our hillside. They installed a new redwood fence ~ 20 linear feet. They replaced a portion of another drain system that runs next to our garage. They relocated our lawn sprinkler system and installed new sprinklers. Finally, they installed a raised planter area and plants.

Ray came out to take measurements and sent me an estimate by email. His crew was already available the week after, they arrived in time and started immediately, while my husband and I went to work, the next days we didn't even have to be there in the morning. The Landscapers were polite and friendly, they listened to all of our questions and and addressed concerns right away, e.g. I wanted the step a little wider than the standard width that they originally poured the cement for. They said it was no problem at all and widened the step. The entire job got done within the timeframe specified, the job site was cleaned up every day...and our new patio looks gorgeous. We are very happy with the quality and professionalism of R&R Landscape and plan to call them again next year for some work in the front yard.
Description of Work: R&R Landscape made a new brick patio in the yard, they removed an old wall with metal fencing on top, leveled the ground, installed a planter at the side and metal reinforcement for the patio, poured concrete and paved it with brick on top. In addition, a gravel area next to a sliding door on the other side of the house was paved with a step.

Ray initially came to my house and was incredibly professional but also very personable. I showed him my initial plans for what I wanted to do and instead of telling me what I should or shouldn’t do (like another company I was getting a quote from), he liked my plans but also made a few suggestions for me to consider, as well as brought his computer to show me pics of other jobs his company had completed. We met a couple of times to go over several changes/revisions, and he was always punctual. His original quote, of course, was a little higher than I had budgeted for, but I also didn’t have enough knowledge of exactly what I was asking of them to do. I really liked how professional and courteous he was and figured that I was willing to pay the difference just to work with someone that seemed so easy to work with and talk to. I signed the contract, and we were ready to start! I just finished a 3-yr house remodel so I had let the yard die, and the existing driveway was slippery and dangerous so I told him to take it ALL out and start with a clean slate. Within the first few days, he had a crew out and immediately got to work demolishing all of the existing concrete around my house (which was quite a lot). Everything was demolished and removed within the first 2 weeks, and they had their clean slate. I love the new stamped concrete driveway that they installed, as well as the flow into all of the new walkways and out to the back yard and new patio deck. Also, the grade they put on the driveway is perfect, and absolutely no water has seeped into my garage. His team reinforced the existing fence that surrounded my property and painted it to match my existing Trex porches. They custom built a fence that surrounded a new trash can area off of the existing fence that I had requested, as well as a new fence gate going into the backyard. They put in new three new grass areas, six flower bed areas and a new irrigation system for the entire yard (front and back). I had originally had ivy surrounding the base of my liquid ambers that I absolutely hated but wasn’t quite sure what to do with once the ivy was removed. We discussed putting in river rocks around the overgrown bases of the trees to cover the root systems, and he said that he had some that he would bring to the job. That area is now one of my favorite parts of my front yard. When it was time, I met with him at the nursery to pick out trees and flowers. I have little to no experience with anything green. He explained what they all were, how tall/short they grew, how much water/sun they would need, et al. He was very patient with me and my ignorance. All of the trees and flowers were delivered and installed within a week. After it was all installed and I came home from work, I couldn’t believe that it was my house! It was colorful and lush and alive! I had asked him if he had any referrals for gardeners that worked in my area as my former gardeners were the mow/blow/go type, and I wanted to make certain that my yard would be better kept. He had suggested his brother-in-law so I hired him. My yard is still as beautiful as it was when the job ended (minus a few plants that were seasonal and didn’t survive the incoming cold weather). I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out! I highly recommend Ray and his crew!!
Description of Work: I had the existing yards (front and back) completely demolished and removed, which included the driveway, back patio concrete deck and several walkways, part of a chain-link fence, three grass areas, trees, flower beds and sprinkler system. Basically the only things I kept in my yard were two liquid amber trees in the front and a fence that surrounded my property … everything else was removed. They installed a new stamped concrete driveway, patio and walkways; new fence; fixed, re-supported and painted the existing fence; installed a drainage system; new landscaping; installed a Trex face to an existing set of steps and installed a new irrigation system.

We were very nervous about taking on our major backyard renovation so soon after purchasing our first house, but we felt like we had to bite the bullet or our backyard would be unusable. I met and/or contacted 6 contractor/landscapers before meeting Ray Reyes. He was prompt, creative, immediately got what we wanted and sketched it out. His estimate was reasonable and he was candid and always thinking of ways to save us money. He also really thought about how to use our yard space in the most organic and aesthetically pleasing way. Ray is a true artist in terms of his knowledge of plants, hardscaping, and layout. As importantly, he knows city building codes very well, when permits are needed etc. He's professional, sharp, creative and dependable. Exactly who I was hoping to find on Angie's List. Ray's crew is AWESOME. They are all super nice and polite and really know what they are doing. Our reno was complicated and the work was difficult, because we were transforming a steep, overgrown hill into usable land... every step of the way, they did great work, and kept to the estimate. Ray was extremely responsive via email whenever we had questions or concerns (and we are type-A perfectionists, so we had a LOT of questions and concerns). I will say, as one caveat, that Ray is very busy, so he doesn't constantly email you with "today we're going to install X or Y" ... if you want to know and micromanage every detail of your project, YOU need to ask HIM... as he's got his hands full managing multiple projects. That said, every time I asked, I got a quick response, and if we wanted to change stuff, we just told him and he obliged. He was very concerned with making sure his crew did the work that we'd discussed/contracted to do, to the highest standard possible. I work from home alone all day and had never dealt with a backyard project this size, but the R&R guys were extremely nice and approachable, easy to ask questions to. They do their work quickly and knowledgeably, they get there on time, they are there consistently. We were so impressed with their work that we decided mid-stream to do the entire reno instead of doing it in 2 phases, as we'd originally planned. We were not disappointed. The only thing I wish is that we'd had enough money for Ray to bring in all the plants and really landscape for us... but we just didn't have the $$. We're going to plant grass and fruit trees ourself -- and even with this, Ray has been kind and helpful, giving us advice on how to plant grass seed and where do get the best fruit trees. He is AMAZING! Hire R&R, you will not regret it.
Description of Work: Our backyard was a TOTAL eyesore: overgrown and on a hill in Silverlake, with no way to get from the uppermost part of our yard to the lower yard, and no way to plant anything. Our sprinklers were rusted and broken, and we had no fence for privacy. R&R changed all of this. Ray came and assessed the property, and we determined terracing was the best plan. R&R trimmed all the trees, cleared and hauled away masses of ground cover and dozens of overgrown Agaves and some other cacti. They trucked in over a ton of dirt to level out our hillside and created 3 levels of terraces. They then created an irrigation system to water all terraces and our upper level. They built 2 staircases from railroad ties: the first connecting the preexisting upper level to the 1st terrace, and then another going from the top terrace to the ground. They poured cement and created a masonry wall along the base of the property, then built a 6 foot redwood fence along the perimeter of the property. Lastly, they compacted the dirt and hauled in topsoil for the terraces, and installed a controlled for the new irrigation system. They also had to cut into our main water line and drop it to accommodate our terraces and to link to the irrigation system, which they did flawlessly. THESE GUYS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

Response from R & R Landscape Services Inc
This job was a bit challenging because of the steep hillside, it can be very decieving as a contractor because if you don't do your calculations correctly as far retaining wall height allowed by the city, soil removal and or backfill, soil compaction you can easily get into a lot of trouble. When we as contractors meet with our Angie's list clients usually you have about an hour to come up with a plan, draw it, present it and explain it to the Angie's list member, do your calculations in this particular case for terracing the hill, depth, height and length. You have to be right on because any mistake will cost you dearly. You have to anticipate unexpected costs such as lowering the main feed line to the house, possibly the sewer line and give line item expenses to the client. All this in about an hour. And this is where we try our absolute best to be as accurate as possible because the estimate is the most important part of a project along with a plan which must be explained to the client step by step. It may take more of our time to do this but it helps both the client and contractor stay in sync. Everything will go smoother no matter the size of the job. We as contracors offer a service and must put ourselves in the clients shoes in order to have a positive outcome, we have the obligation as service proffesionals to inform our clients at all times of any changes that may affect the budget. When we are given the job our clients are entrusting us with their homes one of the greatest assets in anyones life and their money. We have to be understanding and extremely cautious with the trust given to us. So that we do not have any unpleasant surprises. At R & R we are all committed to this belief and will offer 110% 100% of the time. We can not gaurantee the lowest quote but we will gaurantee the best service. Thanks to all of our Angie's list members. R & R Landscape inc.

The entire process was a pleasure in every aspect. All of the work was completed on time and on budget in spite of the fact that we added significantly to the project as we went along. The contract was signed in late September and the work began immediately and finished in less than 6 weeks. Ray and his crews were on the job virtually every day including Saturdays. Ray has extremely good ideas about all aspects of landscape design. Ray clearly enjoys design and selection of plants. He carefully chose plants that responded to our requests and fit in with the existing landscape design. Our job included a large number of retaining walls and steps built from concrete blocks. The soil was compacted and, where necessary, a concrete base was poured. Several retaining walls had to be rebuilt as the original construction (by others) was shoddy. Ray is a big advocate for MP rotator irrigation nozzles which cut water waste and erosion on hillside applications. Half way into the process, we decided to build a platform on the hillside and build a deck and outdoor sauna on the platform. Ray's crews did a huge amount of work to build this platform and framed out the sauna structure exactly to specifications. All materials and plants were of the highest quality. All of Ray's workman are neat, quiet and very hard working as has been noted in other member comments. I've had very good experiences with contractors over the years but this was certainly among the best. I'm new to the Beverly Hills area but it seems that there is a lot of bad design and execution in landscaping. I'm glad that I was able to use Ray's services. I feel we got the best possible service and execution with an added bonus of excellent design.
Description of Work: Extended retaining walls to terrace hillside above our backyard. Rebuilt retaining walls holding our lower terrace. Built steps down the hillside to a new platform area build for an outdoor sauna and deck. Complete redo of landscape on the hillside and terrace steps. Rewire and extend irrigation system. Replace irrigation controller. Replace hillside irrigation with Hunter MP rotators pop-up nozzles. Rework and bury copper supply pipe for the water supply for the irrigation system. Frame in structure for outdoor sauna and supply water to this structure. Built deck around sauna structure. Cleared soil from private drive and built retaining wall on the drive. Includes design of landscaping and selection of plants including several trees and hundreds of other plants including ground cover.
