Complete landscaping services. We offer repairs, design, installation & maintenance. Regular maintenance services offered one time, bi weekly, weekly or even daily if needed.
They are very mediocre in quality and keep a haphazard schedule.
Description of Work: They have been ongoing for basic yard mowing since 2010. We wanted them to do more, but they would require us to purchase supplies to do so. Also, even the basic feeding of the grass was sub-standard as our neighbors next door have much healthier lawn than we do looking at it from over time. The owner would argue and make excuses for not being consistent in which days they would come. They would take time off and not let us know until afterwards. Then, we still wouldn't know for sure when they would come. This last stretch of two months between services, there was an email about their vacation and family issues sent AFTER the fact, so we thought they would come during that next week. They did not, and our lawn was a mess, so we hired someone better and much less expensive at that point thinking we were no longer a Green Retreats Customer anyway. The owner just showed up in the 8am hour with no advance notice this morning, so we told him we no longer needed his "services". His office manager promptly called us afterwards, not to ask about level of customer service AT ALL, but ONLY to make sure they would get paid, HOW ARROGANT!!!!! Well, I am grateful to have this venue to state my displeasure because it would only fall on deaf ears otherwise. Firing them is the only way to send a message that you can do what you want in your business but don't expect your customers to stick around!!!!!!

I am sorry things ended on such bad terms. We never meant for this. On February 27 an email was sent out to all maintenance clients that we would be out of town for two weeks the end of March and there would not be service...but also that there would not be a charge. We also left a notice at each house the beginning of March with invoices. There was a death in the family while we were gone and the trip was delayed another week and ahalf. We sent out another email stating this and appologizing. Most clients were understanding, even though their yards were getting overgrown. Upon return there were a few days of rain. Then we returned to the routine. When we got to your house that morning to service your yard, you came outside and started yelling and getting in our face. (you were even shaking) I am sorry if you were upset that your yard was overgrown but you even said your wife got the email but never the flier. You told us that morning that you didn't want to use us anymore and to leave. We were concerned that you still were more than FOUR month PAST DUE. You said you wouldn't pay. Our crew immediately call the offices and told us what was happening and that is why we called you. We could understand you were upset because your yard wasn't done, but we did keep you informed as best we could being in another country, and we came to do the work as soon as we were back. Being that you still OWED so much we were concerned that you said you wouldn't pay and wanted to try to talk with you. I am sorry if this seemed arogant but we were only responding to your threats of not paying. We did, however, receive a check for the full amount past due within the week. Thank you for your promptness and again we appologize.

We greatly appologize for this delay. We were out of the country for almost a month due to a family death. We did not have any way to check our messages while we were gone. Again, sorry our offices were closed during this time. We hope you were able to have everything taken care of.

I purchased a Big Deal for sprinkler tune up for my rental home. I received a random e-mail from them to confirm an appointment for Oct. 28th which I never scheduled. I let them know that I wasn't available for that date and that I would call them back for another appointment as well as for the address that I needed the work done at. We went back and forth several times and I was offered an appointment at 4:30 p.m. which wouldn't work because it gets dark at 5:00 p.m. We finally agreed for an appointment for Jan. 13th between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. I received a call from my husband informing me that Julio had arrived at our home instead of the rental home that I had provided to them. He apologized and said he was unaware of the second address that he needed to come to. He said he would call me back in a couple of days to set a new appointment. I never received a phone call within that 2 days but I received a random phone call confirming an appointment for 2/10 but didn't have the time they were supposed to be there. I never set the appointment so I called Amber back and left a message and I haven't received a phone call back.

I emailed initially in mid-December via Angie's List and received a reply a day or so later. Julio did they estimating between 4-5pm and was booked so I suggested he could drive by the site if he had spare time and we could talk later (this was via email with Amber). I emailed back and forth with Amber, but we didn't get to the estimate and then the Christmas holidays further delayed an estimate. After New Years I emailed again to set up an appointment which was set for 1/6/2012, Friday. Julio called in the afternoon that he was running late and we rescheduled for Saturday 8 AM which was fine with me. Saturday he arrived approx 8:30-8:45 and we walked the areas where I needed plants removed and debris hauled away. He suggested his day rate for the plant removal and hauling and would give me a quote in 2 business days for the major debris hauling project that I had behind my back fence. He said to expect the quote by the following Tuesday. Nothing came Tuesday and I followed up with an email last week with no response to date. I am mostly disappointed as this was a family run business which I favor supporting.
Description of Work: Requested a quote for debris and plan removal plus hauling away.

I was completely dissatisfied with them and would never ever have touch with them again. Their price was little high when compared to what I am paying now. They broke my sprinklers and damaged my house. My dealings with them were absolutely horrible and I wouldn't use them again. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

We appologize for any frustration you may have caused from this. We assured you that we would come out and repair the irrigation head that was hit with the edger due to the grass being extremely overgrown and we were unable to see it. We also said we would re-paint the small scrape to the paint on the exterior wall made from the edger because we were unable to see due to the high grasses. You did not want to pay the full price quoted you for the clean-up, said you would fix the two minor issues yourself and send us a check for what you owed. Though we did the work in its entirety, you sent a check for less than half...as though we didn't do the work or as though the minor problems were costly or huge. In any case, we returned your check and wish you the best of luck.

I scheduled an appointment with Green Retreats, but we had to reschedule once due to a rain-delay. On the date of the revised appointment, Julio (from Green Retreats) arrived mid-way between the scheduled timeslot. He courteously introduced himself and described the scope of service he would provide. He efficiently worked through the five drip / sprinkler zones of my yard. He made adjustments where needed to all zones, and replaced the small number of drip meters and nozzles that were broken. Before Julio began the work, I told him that the valve assembly controlling the front-yard sprinkler zone seemed to have a broken solenoid because the sprinkler would go one with the timer, but then remain stuck and quot;onand quot; even after the timer shut off. As part of his inspection and adjustment work, Julio found that the front-yard sprinkler problem was in fact caused by the valve assembly having gone out of adjustment. Rather than requiring or performing any hardware repairs, Julio simply made the required adjustments to the existing valve assembly and easily fixed the and quot;stuck onand quot; problem! After completing the adjustment and replacement work, Julio walked me through all the zones, and in particular described two areas in the backyard where two sprinkler heads were broken (requiring a replacement and repair beyond a simple nozzle replacement) and where there were several leaking pipes. Julio gave me three options and price points. First, an option to completely re-do the backyard PVC pipe network and drip lines with re-optimized drip meters and nozzles (where admittedly, my yard has far too many). Second, a sub-option to the first option, which involved trenching, locating and connecting two offshoot pipes (which branched to a different island feature in the backyard) to the re-done PVC pipe network. Third, an option to simply bypass the leaking sections with new PVC segments and not touch the existing PVC pipe or dripline network. He gave me quotes and price breakdowns for the three options, and left it up to me to decide if/when I would like to proceed with any of them. All in all, a professional job; it was a pleasure to work with Julio and I commend Green Retreat's work.
Description of Work: I took advantage of an "Angie's Big Deal" for Sprinkler Tune-up for Lawn & Drip Systems. The service comprised: inspection of all sprinkler / drip zones, adjustments to drip meters and nozzles, replacement of minor replacement parts (drip meters and nozzles), diagnosis and recommendation of any further repair or replacement requirements.

This was one of the best experiences I have ever had dealing with landscapers. I already have Green Retreats booked to handle my next project.
Description of Work: My project involved a new lawn for my frontyard. I contacted Green Retreats after researching them on Angie's List. They were prompt, responsive and professional. Green Retreats owner Julio Solis handled my existing lawn's demolition and the subsequent laying of beautiful, lush sod. I was especially impressed with how well-organized my job was. My yard was immaculate when they left.

I asked them to fix the concrete since it was less than a year old. I guess there was something comical about my situation because when I asked him to stand by his work, he simply laughed. If there are any allegations that these statements are not correct, I have saved the rude emails and have pictures of the concrete.
Description of Work: I had a flagstone patio and drip irrigation put into my backyard. Due to Julio's family issues, the appointment to show me how the irrigation system worked was canceled. Thereafter, due to the rain and the holidays, I did not contact them again until the spring since I had not received the drawing for the irrigation system. I further noticed that the irrigation system was not working properly. When I emailed and called them, I was told that I would be charged $55 an hour. It took several emails and unreturned phone calls before I was able to "remind" them that the work had not been finished. It was truly an unpleasant experience. At one point, Amber told me that I had given them a wrong phone number and that was why she wasn't able to call me back. I looked back at my contract and both my work and cell phone numbers were on there. In fact, in an earlier email (to which she had responded) also had my cell phone number. About two months later, I noticed a significant crack in the concrete between the flagstones. The crack ran the entire width of the patio - from the house to the end of patio. I contacted Amber and Julio again. Julio verified that he had noticed it when he came to finish the drip system. However, he stated that it was normal. However, if i wanted it fixed, i would be charged again. I have lived in over 10 houses; never have I had a crack in the concrete that ran the entire width of the patio. Bear in mind that this patio is less than a year old and this crack covers the ENTIRE WIDTH of the patio. The entire experience with this company was unprofessional and exemplified poor workmanship. I would never recommend this company to anyone. However inexpensive a contract may be, if the work has to be done over, it truly isn't a "deal" is it?

We did this job back in September of 2010. Customer was on a tight budget so we gave her over 50% discount. The job went well and the customer was very happy and always commented on this in emails. We charged her half off one of her valves because she was going to get her own dirt and plants so she would run the final drip to each plant herself. We did not hear from her between October and May 2011. However, she then contacts us in May of 2011 wanting the diagrams of the systems. We gladly emailed them to her, a couple weeks later due to a family emergency that took us to Mexico. She then contacted us a few weeks later saying the irrigation wasn’t working and we needed to come fix it. We advised her there would be a $55/hr repair charge but she got very upset and said it was never working, even though that was 8months later. We gladly went out two days later and finished off that valve we charged half price for because she was going to do it…however, we now were doing it for free. Amber did not say you gave a wrong number, Amber emailed that the number she had for you wasn’t working to please call us…You called once and emailed twice...we did reply to your emails. The other problem was a crack in the mortar between the flagstone…not concrete. We explained to her that this was due to her wanting the flagstone on sand to save the cost of concrete...there had been a rain season since the installation and things settled a bit. Also because the job was so large it was split into two long days and the crack is where the stopping point was. We said we would re-mortar that section, but at a charge because it was not our fault. She was unhappy and threatened small claims. We too have saved all emails..inluding the ones where we admitted we were wrong and would help her... and we have never sent a mean email, we just pointed out all the facts and the customer did not like that. We do stand behind our work and came out and did free work for the client to try to keep her happy with our services. We offered to come do a re-mortar at a very cheap rate to help. Julio never laughed when the client spoke to him. He is a very respectful person who definitely stands with pride behind his work….he just had to draw the line on anymore free work for this client.

i bought the groupon deal (well more like's angie's list deal). a few weeks later a lady from the company emailed me saying that she wanted to make an appointment for them to come out and do their thing. i said ok and to let me know when she schedules them to come out to us. well 3th of july comes around and i get a call at 9am from a guy saying that they are outside the house but no one is home. well of course no one will be home because we didn't know they were coming. the lady failed to let us know that we were scheduled and stuff. anyway they worked on our front yard without me even knowing. the lady emails me back saying that they did the front yard and if i wanted the back yard done i'd have to schedule another visit and actually pay this time. i was a little annoyed since i wanted the back yard done in the first place but obviously i couldn't get what i wanted because i didnt know they were coming out in the first place. anyway, i scheduled the appointment anyway. the guys came out and cleaned out the back yard and touched up on the front yard. they did a good job. the guy that i dealt with was super professional and nice. even though we got off on the wrong foot with the whole scheduling thing, i would hire these guys again for yard stuff.
Description of Work: basically our backyard and front yard were a DISASTER. it was disgustingly dirty and a mess. but after the guys came and did their thing, it looks AMAZING. they cleaned out everything. we even had the barbecue grill stuff all over the backyard along with drink cans and lawn chairs and tables and boxes. they took care of those as well. they not only tidied up the yard but also out stuff. assembled the grill and all. they removed a few rose bushes and small tress. weeds were gone. mowed our lawn. trimmed the trees and bushes that we wanted to keep.

We started with Green Retreats last spring. We got bids from 4 different companies and Julios was in the middle, though at the time still too expensive. We saved up and then called Green Retreats again. It took about a month or so for them to start the job but that was because we had to get in line behind those who had already signed contracts. I liked Julio right away, really nice, not too business, but not too laid back. Amber, his wife, is very responsive and nice via email too. There were a few hiccups that couldn't have been prevented, ie a family emergency and rain into June. All in all it was a good experience. ;The irrigation in our garden beds took a little longer than I would have liked but that was because julio had gotten into a bunch of other jobs at that point and we had to get in the queue. We staggered our job and they had told me we might run into delays if we did this. So that’s fair. After the irrigation was done I had some issues with the timer and thankfully Julio came by when I was on vacation and saved my plants from dying. I really appreciate that they do that kind of thing. The lawn is great, the irrigation is awesome and all the people that came out and worked on it were also really friendly and professional. The only issue we have is that there are a few parts of the lawn where the grass appears to have died and i'm pretty certain its because the sprinklers are not hitting those areas. he came out after we called and checked on the spots. He replaced a handful of sprinkler heads with ones that cover bigger distances. Hopefully now the spots will come back and it was just a water issue. we will soon have the dream yard we had imagined. We have plans to do the front of our home too, and I intend to call Green Retreats for that project too.
Description of Work: Julio and his crew removed all of our sod, and when I say all I mean a lot of sod. I would guess our yard was 1/8 of an acre, or 120 ft deep and 80 ft wide. They cleared it manually because we didn't want to kill it with chemicals, though that would have been about $1,000 cheaper. Then they fixed about 30 ft of fencing that was falling over, removed about 8 shrubs and shrub stumps and took out two trees. We had all of this material in about two dumpsters which was part of the contract. They then laid the irrigation system which included 5 zones (25-30 sprinklers, 8 valves) for the sod that they would eventually lay, and one each for each side of the lawn where we ended up planting plants, which need 60 or so emitters. He also added an extra line in the back where I ended up putting raised veggie gardens. After the irrigation they laid sod. Oh and they put some tubing down for conduit so we can install outdoor lights.

His quote was much more than the other person from Angie's list who gave us an estimate right on the spot and was awarded the job.
Description of Work: We requested an estimate to clean up our backyard, & trim some trees, Julio was supposed to come between 5 - 6 pm. His office called that he would be late, and arrived about an hour late. He promised to give us a quote, and we did not receive it until about a week later.
The final outcome exceeded our expectations. We chose Green Retreats based on the reviews from Angie's List. I am very glad that I did so. Julio, the owner, came to our house and patiently listened to our ideas and requirements, and made some suggestions of his own. His recommendations regarding the drainage issue were really excellent. I had a general notion of how to engineer a solution, since I had done my homework, but had never thought of using a sump pump. Also, Julio helped us clarify our vision of what the retaining wall should look like. I then rode my bike around the areas that I liked in terms of landscaping, and I took some pictures of walls that I thought would work in our backyard. I particularly liked steps leading to an upper terrace trimmed with red terra cotta bullnose brick. I emailed the photographs to Julio, and he understood immediately what I was after. In the course of constructing the stucco wall, Julio suggested adding a slight curve. This turned out to be a very nice elegant touch. Julio and his crew did a clean professional job, worked hard during the heat, cleaned up after themselves, and made sure that we were completely satisfied. I have done a lot of project management over the years, and Julio is probably the best contractor that I have ever worked with.
Description of Work: Green Retreats Landscaping removed the existing timber retaining wall, poured a concrete footing, installed an extensive drainage system, installed a drip irrigation system, built a stucco retaining wall, dug a sump and installed a sump pump, extended our existing flagstone patio to the new retaining wall. This was a much bigger job than it might first appear. We have had a continuous problem with flooding during the rainy season, and even though I had installed a French drain, it was not enough to drain the lake that appeared when the rain was particularly heavy. We also wanted a nice retaining wall that people could sit on when we had birthday celebrations, etc. The drip irrigation system was an afterthought, but we are glad that we chose to do it.

They agreed to make the design plan for us which we paid them for and the landscaper gave it to us. We paid them $50. He followed through and gave us the plan. It was a week or so late, but that was okay. We didn't use a lot of his plan because we hired someone else for a second plan, but he was okay. I don't have any complaints against him. I bought the special that was advertised for 4 hours of yardwork. This was the middle of June. I received an e mail that they would contact me when they could do the work. The owner showed up at my house on a Sunday afternoon on a holiday weekend-no phone call first. He looked at the yard and started whining about how he couldn't do the job for the amount of money agreed upon. Additionally, he unfortunately had not brought the tools necessary to trim larger bushes so that would not be done either. Basically he wanted almost $40/hour to mow and edge. I could have easily done the job myself within 4 hours if I didn't have arthrits. I just don't think this guy wanted to work hard. I am contacting Angie's list to request a refund.
Description of Work: None. I sent him away because he was making excuses for why he couldn't do the job for the price he advertised.

Hello again. As I explained to you before, the ad was a Big Deal through Angieslist and all the details were specified in it. It was 4 hours 1 man or 2 hours 2 men and we showed up 2 men. The ad also stated yards that had neglect may have additional costs if more time was needed, you yard had not been cared for in some time. We also did email you on 6/28 letting you know we would be there on sunday to do the yard and to let us know if this was a problem. We opened up our schedule that weekend to finish up these Big Deals so that the customers would have their yards looking nice for Independance day and we never heard from you not to come. When we arrived you were very disrepectful to us and a phone call in to the office was made for the details of what you purchased to be explained to you. You agreed and understood everything that was said but for some reason still decided not to move forward. Also, we did not try to charge you $40/hr to mow the lawn...we were going to do all that was included for what you had paid already, but told you that you would still need more work being the yard had not been cared for in a while and that would be a charge per hour. I am sorry that you expected more for your money but all of the details were explained on the Big Deal ad which you purchased. Thank you for your time and we wish you the best of luck.

We really liked working with Green Retreats Landscaping. They were very professional and flexible in working with us on options to our drainage issues. We had some drainage work done by a different landscaping company, but the solution was incomplete and caused many additional issues for us with flooding in our backyard and damaging our recently sodded lawn. Green Retreats came in and fixed the drainage problem. We have not had any drainage problems during the extended heavy rains this past winter. We would highly recommend Green Retreats!
Description of Work: Fixed a backyard drainage problem that included replacing drainage pipe under a concrete patio, determining issues with the existing drainage system, and ensuring the resulting drainage solution included connectivity with down spouts and other connections in the yard -- some of which were difficult to trace.

They were here for two days. They were prompt and did a very good job. They were very polite. I would hire them in a second and I would like them to come and do regular work. I am trying to negotiate a price with them now.
Description of Work: I used Green Retreats Landscaping for a general cleanup of about three acres.

Yard work was fine, nothing great, nothing bad, just average, which was good enough. My problem was dealing with the Julio's wife. She is very matter of fact, not very customer friendly. The price they quoted for a side gate was 280 and I had a handyman do it for 150, so I thought the price quoted was too high. Basically not a terrible company but there are so many yard companies to choose from, I was expecting better customer service. She made me feel like I was always wrong. And I'm a reasonble customer. I will not use them again.

Response from Coexist Landscaping
Hello member. I am very sorry that you feel this way…about me, the wife, and glad that it isn’t about the company. I was not trying to be a “matter of fact” as you say. I simply was responding via email to your email in where you stated many things that were incorrect about our company and our policies. I was explaining to you that we are not responsible for your renter, as well as, that per your contract, your rate was supposed to increase in January but we gave you an extra 5 months to return the contract to us…basically that we have been trying to contact you and your renter and were trying to work with you. This was just in the last communication we had so I am not sure where you feel I made you always wrong and I am sorry that you felt that way. I had to clarify our contract and policies. I am a very personable and customer service oriented person and wish you would have simply told me you didn’t like me instead of trying to hurt our family business on angieslist. In any case we appreciated your business all these months and wish you the best of luck with your new company.

Phenomenal! We have never seen a crew work so hard in our lives. Julio and his crew managed to completely refresh our property on 5 acres with extensive work too lengthy to detail here. We absolutely had to have the job completed by 30 March 2011 as our first showing was on the morning of 31 March 2011 for a few dozen Realtors. We have used Green Retreats Landscaping for 1 1/2 yrs now at our property in Sacramento, and new they were the only choice for this huge job in Vacaville. They went above and beyond our expectations. Each day they arrived promptly at 9 am and worked until 6:30 or 7:00 pm, with only a brief pause for lunch. In their 3 days on our property they accomplished more than we could have done in 2 weeks. On the last day, Julio had some trouble with his work truck. His family made a sacrifice that day for us to make sure our job got completed on time by letting Julio and his crew bring the family car to our home (meaning the family had no transportation of their own that day). I don't know anyone else who would do that to satisfy a client. Green Retreats Landscaping is the absolute best. We've now used them for 2 huge projects as well as ongoing maintenance for our Sacramento home and we could never imagine trusting anyone else. Summary of work completed on this project: • Coordination of all service providers and materials • Clean-up (cleaning, trimming bushes, leaves, several trees, huge junipers, removal of bushes, removing several large fallen branches, clean up of pond) • Several dump runs totaling greater than 12 cubic yards of waste. • Compacting road with AB rock • Installation of approx. 1,008 sq. ft. 3/4" drain rock • Installation of approx. 100 sq. ft. river rock • Installation of approx. 350 sq. ft. gorilla hair (various areas on the property) • Installation of approx. 350 sq. ft. weed fabric • Patching approx. 60 sq. ft. sod • All irrigation tested and repaired (3 manifolds with a total of 18 valves) • Installation of dozens of deer-tolerance small flowering plants around the property to brighten appearance
Description of Work: Massive landscaping project in the country in preparation for home sale and open house.

Thank you again members. We always enjoy working for your guys and hope you home sales quick. As you say we always work with you to be sure things are getting done, you also always work with us and we appreciate it. There are always kinks along the way and together a contractor and customer can wrinkle things out with an amazing final outcome! Thank you again to you both.
