We had a water leak in the kitchen that caused flooring and some cabinet damage. I started looking around for contractors with the idea that this might be a good time to do some remodeling that we've been talking about but never got around to. I contacted Westside by email and they responded immediately. One of their designers stopped over and listened to our wish-list. Our insurance company had their adjuster call us to make an appointment. He suggested that it might make the whole process easier if we had our contractor present. I asked their designer to be there and she agreed, which was a very good thing. She pointed out many items that needed to be done and my insurance company agreed to (almost) everything she suggested. I was pretty much sold by then. Once we were ready for the work to start it went very smoothly. There were no long waits like we've had in previous remodels. They provided a schedule, which was a pleasant change from prior experience. One of their lead carpenters was on site whenever there was work being done and he was extremely responsive to our concerns. There were some minor issues along the way and they were able to come up with solutions. We decided to add on some cabinetry to our media niche and that is coming along nicely! I gave them a B for price, but you get what you pay for and we're happy with the results.

How did it go? It was a complete waste of time. We hired Westside after his estimate came in at about the same price as another estimate and because Westside has a real nice storefront you can see from the 101. Bob the owner gave us the estimate and informed us we would be working with one of his designers on the project. A 500 dollar fee was charged for this mandatory service but we felt good because the designer would lead us through the project. The designer turned out to be an engineer who just thought she was a designer. I work with engineers....they are the most non creative people on earth and it certainly was true in this case. It seemed the only words she knew were, IT CANNOT BE DONE. After 2 months working with her and not getting anywhere we were pretty much resigned to her suggestions which were nothing more than we had already had Bob estimate. No big changes at all. But after wasting our summer, Bob and the designer upped the cost from 16000 dollars to more than 24000 dollars. I gave him a C because he gave us our 500 dollars back and also because we were able to locate another contractor on Angies list that was everything Westside was not. We are so happy that we just look at Westside Remodeling now when we pass it on the 101 and laugh. My opinion, Do Not Waste Your Time.
