The crew, Don and Cliff, arrived exactly on time as promised. They had all of the necessary equipment and supplies, such as wardrobes for my clothes. They listened patiently to the instructions I gave them as to how each of the pieces of furniture were to be transferred, and how I wanted it arranged in my new apartment. They were very professional and knew what to do, but they listened anyway. They were extremely fast and careful. There was no bumping of banging or dropping of items. The management at Best Move is easy to reach, and very cooperative and friendly on the phone. They have a two hour minimum charge and do not ask for a deposit. Other companies I called, had a larger minimum number of hours and some wanted a deposit.
Description of Work: The Best Move crew, Don and Cliff, did the three major tasks requested: They moved furniture from my apartment to a new apartment a short ways down the road, they placed large unwanted pieces at the apartment house dumpster, moved some items to my parents home nearby, and dropped a mattress and box spring off at the warehouse of the company from which I had purchased a new bed.

My husband and I had planned on making this move to our new house within the same town a and quot;two-partand quot; move, meaning all the heavy items first with a moving company and the second part ourselves. The team from Best Move did so well on the first leg of the move that we called them back to do the second leg a week later. The second move was to cost around $600. They called the eveing before to comfirm and were on time the following day. BUT......with a different crew. This crew did well but not as assertive as the first. They seemed to be much slower and when we commented about that one of the owners put a cap on the amount so we did not exceed our budget. Overall I would recommend Best Move to anyone. The items that they moved were very heavy and expensive. Not a bit of damage to anything.
Description of Work: Lyn and his team were great from start to finish. I called many moving companies but there pricing was not as competitive as Best Move. They have a 2 hour minimum and then they charge by the quarter of the hour....Love that! The day before they called to confirm the move and time of arrival. And let me tell you....they were on time and ready to go the following day! 4 men showed up and moved our large heavy furniture like it was nothing. They were very friendly and professional. Did the move in record time and with no damage to anything.

I called the company and they promptly suggested that someone come out to do an onsite check, which I had heard is a good practice is this industry, so I was pleased. They also informed me that they do the moving themselves (as opposed to brokering the job out) -- also a good thing. The person who came out did a thorough inspection, and the amount of time he said would be needed to complete the move was accurate. On moving day, the movers showed up on time and proceeded to move everything in a timely manner. At the time, I was pleased because I have experienced some nightmare moves in the past. The movers themselves were courteous and worked hard. It was only after they had left that I noticed some issues, although I did try to keep an eye on as much as possible, however in such a move, it is impossible to follow every piece of furniture and every move by the movers. After they left, there were issues, such as items that were not plugged in (and I had specifically asked if that could be done prior to the move commencing and I was told that the movers would certainly do so -- but in most cases, they did not). This might not sound like a big issue, however, as I am on my own and having to deal with everything myself, it was important to me that the movers do certain things while they were there as I would find them difficult to do on my own after they left. Also, I did find some scratches and chips after the fact, plus the bed situation annoys me every time I put the bed up or down. I also think it's only good service to have someone do a follow up after the move, which no one ever did. These things were important to me -- enough so, that I would go out of my way to locate a different mover the next time.
Description of Work: Although the person who answered the phone and the people who showed up to do the work seemed professional and punctual, it was only after they left that I found several issues -- that to this day I have not been able to fix myself because the items weigh too much to move them again. For example, I have an ergo tempurpedic bed, which means that it raises up and down. As a result, it is very heavy. The bed sits on risers, and although the movers did place the bed on the risers, they are crooked, as is the angle of the bed, so every time now that the top portion of the bed moves up and down, it scrapes against the back. Also, the movers did not bother to plug the bed back in before they left.There were several issues that I felt I should call the company about and have them come back to fix appropriately, however, I had hoped that someone from their office would call after the move to find out if everything was ok. To this day, I have never received a follow up call, and I did not bother to call them back because I don't intend on using their services again, nor would I recommend them. I chose this company simply because it had a high rating on Angie's List, however their prices were more than their competitions' but the extra amount was not worth it to me.

I'd used Best Moves two years before this move and they were great. This time the movers were terrible. They were slow, sloppy and did extensive damage to my furniture. At one point, one of the movers was moving a chair and he was so inattentive that he was dragging the chair cushion through the dirt. After the move, I called Lynn, the owner, more than once to complain and to make a claim for damages but he never returned my calls.

When they arrived, everything seemed okay. One of the service men injured his arm trying to move a large TV on his own. The the man who injured his arm was still assisting, with one arm. When we arrived at the new house in Newbury Park, there was a replacement for the injured man. They did not wrap the furniture correctly. We asked them to use moving blankets, but they did not use them properly in the truck, thus a lot of furniture was damaged and scratched. The service men were not professional. For example, we did not have an elevator for the new house and they made comments like, "Man, that really sucks that we have to take the stairs". (Who has an elevator in their house?) My daughter-in-law (who was pregnant and taking care of a 1 year old) asked the man who injured his arm a few times to please shrink-wrap some items and she was told, "There's the shrink-wrap", basically telling her to do it herself. We were paying them to do this for them. Once we arrived at the Newbury Park house, my daughter-in-law unpacked her wardrobe and realized they had stuck her Welcome mat inside with her clothing. Her jacket was covered in filth. It seemed like the moving crew lacked common sense. The whole move took 14 hours. We anticipated the move to only take 8 hours, maximum. This company was paid by the hour, and we felt it took longer because one man on the crew was injured. Also, we felt they were intentionally taking their time (knowing they were being paid by the hour) and sauntered around. Once they got to the new house, they did not need to place boxes inside specific rooms. All they needed to do was unload the boxes into the garage. They did place furniture into specific rooms for them. When it came time to put the furniture back together in the new house, they did a shoddy job. We had to have them come back to put furniture back together. They lost pieces for my grandson's crib and changing table. The crib was not assembled properly and we needed to take it apart and reassemble the crib in order to make it safe for him to sleep in that night. Same situation happened with my son and daughter-in-law's bed; it was missing support systems and would have crashed had they tried to sleep on it that first night. Needless to say a long day of moving was topped by having to reassemble furniture just to go to bed that night. The man who put together the furniture in our baby's room tracked in dark, black stuff in the home. This was not easy to remove from the white carpet and we spent a lot of time trying to get this out of the carpet. The worst part of this whole experience is they dinged our new walls, including black marks all over our walls and took chunks of drywall out of our walls. They were not careful while bringing furniture into the new home. They know that it's their fault, and have sent their "handyman" come out and try to fix the dings. He put putty over the dings. It took a long time for him to come and finish the job, which was shoddy as you can still see the dings and can tell he did not sand the putty. He used paint from their house, which we told him was not the correct color for the walls, to "finish" the job. When I told him the color didn't match, he came back and brought another employee with him. When he came in the door he brought another person and said he was "a little colorblind" and brought someone else to be his eyes. We were shocked that he didn't admit this in the first place. Even though he claimed he was "colorblind", Stuart could tell the colors did not match. They have white splashes all over the staircase which is very noticeable. It just looks like someone went along and just put putty all over the walls. It has been two months and we feel like we are running in circles with them. My daughter-in-law thinks that she found the correct paint color, after talking with the property management team who owns the rental house. She has been trying to touch base with the "handyman", Stuart, but he is not calling her back. We want Best Move to come and fix the staircase by re-doing the putty job, sanding it and re-painting.

Response from BEST MOVE
This complaint we believe is mostly a case of buyer's remorse, or of trying to get "something for nothing". There was no prior estimate on this job so it was billed hourly. It took 14 hours. It was the customers unfounded belief that it would take 8 hours ..thus their disappointment. As to the crew being unprofessional, we disagree. The three men had over 35 years experience between them. We dispute that any furniture was unpadded, or not padded correctly. We also dispute that our men "sauntered around" ..we do hundreds of moves yearly on an hourly basis, and a great deal of our work comes from referrals and repeat customers. We further dispute that our men complained that there was no elevator in a two story residence ..this is a ridiculous charge. The customer complains that "lots of furniture was damaged or scratched", however, during follow-up in the customers home we found 2 minor scratches in an infant crib and changing table nothing else! Also the customer complains that there were missing parts on the children's furniture. We did not disassemble the child's changing table, there were 2 missing can-bolts, but we believe his was from improper initial assembly by the customer. We did however, go to Home Depot, find the correct replacements, and assemble it correctly. After completion of this job ..and the customers complaint we sent a man to their house on 5 subsequent occasions to try and make them happy .. Most of their complaints were for either specious or minimal problems. We repaired the child's table, re-assembled the bed, turned around a crib rail. We then patched some very small dings in a narrow staircase. We returned later to paint the patches after they had dried. The paint the customer provided was the wrong shade. We subsequently contacted the management company that they are renting from to try and ascertain the correct color. Although we called them numerous times they have not returned our calls with the correct color. It is our position that while it is unfortunate there were some minor problems on this move we provided the service contracted for. After the initial service we returned to their home on 5 separate occasions to try and make this customer happy. After each follow-up they changed or added to their complaint. For instance, initially they said the bed wasn't assembled correctly, when our man went to their house the wife told him not to touch it, because "it was made". On our second trip the husband complained that we hadn't fixed the bed and that we hadn't "fixed" the crib. There was one rail on backwards that was repaired the first time we were there. We are still willing to return and touch-up the small patches on the wall if the customer will provide the correct color ..we will even purchase the paint. It was raining the day we scheduled. Tom and Robb took great care with all my furniture and protected the floors at both locations.They seemed really tired after carrying furniture up 3 flights of stairs and I asked if they needed a break. Packing took six hours for two men -- and I've got twice as much stuff as the average apartment dweller because of my library and home business. The move itself -- loading the truck, drive time, and unloading -- took nearly 10 hours. Every box was properly marked with the room and the contents. Every single piece of furniture was wrapped with furniture pads and shrink-wrapped as appropriate. Unlike many movers, Best Move transported my file cabinets, dresser, nightstands, bed pedestal, and refrigerator with all drawer contents as-is -- which meant no unpacking for those items! (The refrigerator had no open containers and no breakables.) They handled the tree by shrink-wrapping the branches into a vertical position that would pass through doors without breaking, then strapped the pot to a refrigerator dolly. All my furniture arrived intact, with the exception of a minor crack to the wood pedestal of the bed, which they repaired on the spot. I haven't unpacked everything yet, so I don't know how well my dishes survived, but my Tiffany-style lamp shades made it intact, so I have high hopes for the rest.
