My husband and I were very pleased with the entire process. Kelly came to the house and discussed what we wanted. He looked over the job site very carefully so that he would be aware of the existing issues such as the fact that the new drywall would need to match the texture in the adjacent walls and that the required painting of the new drywall would need to match the colors in the adjoining rooms. He provided a detailed written estimate as well as an estimate of the time required to do the jobs. He showed up promptly every day and did a great deal of the work himself but he also used sub-contractors with the requisite skills to make sure that the job was done efficiently and well. He kept us informed at every stage of the process.
Description of Work: A door was installed between the master bedroom and the master bathroom and a double door was installed at the entrance to the office. The work involved rough and finish carpentry, installation of doors and door jambs, installation of baseboards, drywall installation with texture to match existing texture, painting to match existing colors in the adjacent walls, and carpet repairs required due to door installation.

I contacted several contractors from Angie's list and Kelly Bice was the most responsive. He set up a time to look at the project and present us with a fair bid. Before the work began we decided to increase the part of our project we wanted Kelly to do and he revised his bid accordingly. Please note that for the "PRICE" category I checked N/A. I feel I do not have enough information to make a meaningful determination about price nor do I consider this a deciding factor when choosing a provider. I only consider commenting on this category if I feel that the provider is over priced for the quality of the work they preformed (therefore giving them a negative rating), Spring Oak Construction was not over priced for the quality of their work . (It's not that we are rich, it's just that good work deserves a fair price and for the most part people feel a fair price is over priced.) Kelly is the owner and chief operator of Spring Oak Construction so you not only hire the company but the owner is on site for the majority of the project. This is ideal during a re-model project because questions always seem to come up (once you get into the real work) that need immediate answers (such and such beam is in the way that ultimately alters the location of a finish electrical device, what would WE like to see done). Kelly is very much interested in the client having input into the design as it proceeds because he feels that the client needs to be happy with the final out come. At no time did he become irritated with my suggestions, that, at times, required a shift in the original plan. We would work out problems and ideas and he would consider my suggestions, sometimes we went my way and sometimes he showed me why my thinking was off base so we went his way (mostly). At this point I should say that I have had a lot of experience with home building. My wife and I and friends built our last home from the ground up so my input did have some experience behind it. Any contractor knows that this could be a good or a bad thing, Kelly handled this in a highly professional manner that brought us to agreement at every turn. Kelly has very high standards for those he works with and his right hand man (also his electrician), Chris Yant, is no exception. Both Kelly and Chris were at our home for the better of 4 weeks completing their portion of our project and could not have been more professional, personal and competent. They NEVER cut corners but rather went out of their way to to a quality job. Kelly also brought on a plumber, drywaller, and painter as needed and all three of these people followed suit in character and competence. When it came time for separate contractors (cabinet, countertop, tile) to work along side of Kelly and Chris they fit their schedule to complement this work. One good thing about having separate contractors involved in this kitchen re-model was that the extra attention to detail that Kelly and his people took was clearly demonstrated. At one point I took Kelly aside to thank him for how considerate he was of our situation (having a hole in our home where the kitchen once was). Everyday, and I mean everyday, Kelly and his workers cleaned up the job site. This included removal of discarded materials, sweeping, vacuuming, pulling out the entire floor protection system (4X8 sheets of Masonite) and cleaning under them and then putting them back in place for the next days work. If anyone has tried to live in a construction site they know how insidious sawdust and drywall dust (not to mention 25 year old insulation dust) can be. Kelly plastic shielded the kitchen from the rest of the house but this does not make an air tight barrier. The removal of the daily construction scraps and cleaning of the kitchen inside and the work area outside everyday kept our home livable throughout this project. This may be a small thing going unnoticed by most but was a very big consideration to us (when we built our first home we built the first level, lived it it for a couple of years and then raised the roof and built the second level so we know what living under construction can be like). In conclusion, this job could not have gone better. Spring Oak Construction proved themselves to be a company well worth working with. If I can say one thing about Kelly Bice is that he puts the satisfaction of the client above all else. He really is committed to making the final outcome the best it can be for the kind of living experience the client desires. In doing this he will not cut quality nor compromise current building standards so your project is sure to be solid, safe, and user friendly. Thank You, Kelly and Chris.

Kelly Bice the owner of Spring Oak Construction has been one of the best and most professional contractors I have ever dealt with. Kelly explains everything in detail and gives you estimates on every project. When he uses one sub-contractor to come out and do a specialty item, he makes sure that he looks at other bids as well, before providing the estimate. He is very cautions and caring about the work he does in the house. He is clean and considerate and makes sure that you are advised and satisfied of all the work being conducted. I have used Kelly on my personal property and rental property, and he is our go to contractor for all of our upcoming projects. His prices are up front , very competitive, and worth the piece of mind.
Description of Work: Kelly Bice of Spring Oak Construction Identified dry rot in front patio posts; Identified exposed wood at the rear entry door way; repainted the front door entry, garage door, rear entry door frame, and front patio posts.

Kelly & I had talked about this mini-project a while ago, at a time that he was doing other work for me. He told me he had a big work project starting & would be out of town for much of the summer. I wasn't in any particular hurry, so I waited for him to be available, knowing from past experience that I could depend on him. We did have some technical e-mail issues which were solved by my phone call to him & his immediate reply. Over the period of a few weeks we were able to agree on a date when he could accommodate me. True to his word, he & Melchor showed up on that day, on time, & set to work immediately. My husband & I had to leave the house for an appointment, & by the time we arrived home it was finished.
Description of Work: Because of my satisfaction with Kelly & his work partner, Melchor, for work they completed before at my home, I decided that I wanted additional work done. The front windows of my home have a metal rail trim surrounding a bottom ledge which protrudes from the wall; there is also a front gable end metal vent, both of which needed new paint to match the front door. Prep work included sanding, rust removal, with the application of a metal primer, followed by a special metal paint finish coat. It was completed in 4 man hours. Everything is now color coordinated & looks beautiful...& once again, I'm quite pleased!

The entire experience was positive. Kelly was prepared and punctual. He offerred suggestions and explanations for each project. His estimates were clear and he stayed within estimated cost. Kelly was readily accessible by phone and e-mail and worked within mutually agreed schedules. I could not be more satisfied with my experience.
Description of Work: Preparing my home for sale. I needed stucco work, fencing repair and replacement, wood replacement and painting on a deck. We refurbished the front entrance by painting the front door and replacing the light fixture. I also had a list of "honey-do" items on the interior including re-caulking in the bathroom and repairs to window hardware among other projects.

We are very pleased. Kelly, the owner, did everything he told us he would do and more. He remodeled and improved our hot tub gazebo, fixed the electric connection to the hot tube and had someone come out for an overall look at the hot tub. He completely scraped and painted everything! From Monday through Friday, Kelly worked with precision and thoughtfulness on this project. We are very grateful for his expertise. The finished job has an extra 'pet gate', which we love! He and his workers, Chris and Junior, brought our tired outdoor eye sore out of the past and into a wonderful, relaxing future!
Description of Work: Repaced parts of the gazebo roof Added latice work in boxed form to an open side to provide privacy Replaced a lot of electrical pipe on the house that was connected to the spa Had the spa inspected for any work needed Scraped and completely painted the gazebo. It now looks like new! Remodeled our entrance to the spa, adding a pet gate

Contacted Spring Oak Construction and spoke with Kelly Bice. He was very professional. I discussed the problems with the front porch and patio. We set a date to meet so that he could review and give a price. He emailed me his proposal, after I approved we set a day for the repair job to begin and end. Upon completion, I mailed a check to Kelly. The work that was done was very exceptional. We were very pleased, and will call Kelly again if and when we need other carpentry repair work done. We were very thankful to find him on Angie's List.

This job turned out right, quick and professionally done and when the owner of a company does the work himself you know that his employees will respect him and do their job correctly. We have quite a list of remodeling that we would like to do and will hire SPRING OAK CONSTRUCTION again for that work.
Description of Work: Our patio sliding glass door was no longer keeping air out. I called Spring Oak and talked with the owner, Kelly Bice. He suggested that instead of replacing the door which would entail stucco work, drywall work and painting that he come out and see if the door was repairable. After making a determination that our door was in good shape except for weather stripping, some frame work and track work and resetting the doors correctly and we should repair instead of replace. Considering that replacing would cost upwards of $1,500 for a new door and all the work involved verses less than $500 for the repair we went with the repair. Three days after his assessment Spring Oak Const. came back to do the work which was performed by Kelly Bice, the owner along with an employee. Three hours later the work was done.

I like the fact that they do the painting and the construction both together. I would rate them highly. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Spring Oak Construction for painting and construction.
Kelly Bice is such a gentleman and very professional. He is also very knowledgeable with regards to any construction job you may be considering. He will work with you on pricing and is very helpful with suggestions. I'm very pleased with the project that was just completed and we are working on another project as I write this. I have an older home that is in need of a lot of work and I will trust Kelly to do the work.
Description of Work: Installed 2 bi-fold closet doors, added shelf in closet, installed base molding, changed out hinges on linen cabinets and painted all.
He came on time, gave a fair price in a written estimate, did the jobs great and cleaned up afterwards. Everything looks great!

I found Spring Oak Construction on Angie's List and was very impressed with the posted testimonials. It was after 5:00pm when I first contacted Sping Oak by phone. Mrs. Kelly Bice answered and took my message. Soon afterward, Kelly returned my call at which time I described the work that I needed done. He made an appointment for the following afternoon to come to my home, study the problems, and give me an estimate. At the appointed time, Kelly showed up, discussed both jobs with me in detail, explained every step involved to make the changes I required (I had no idea there would be so many absolutely logical steps required), and promised to email me his detailed quote. Later that evening, I received the quote...including the requested senior discount. On the day the job was to be done, Kelly and a colleague showed up and wasted no time in getting down to work. As described above, the job was done quickly, professionally, and at a competitive price. I was especially grateful that my last minute, broken tile repair was included in the originally-agreed upon price. I wouldn't hesitate a moment to recommend this honest, conscientious, skilled contractor to any Angie's List customer.
Description of Work: The following services were provided by two talented tile men who worked in my home at the same time. Three cracked 18" x 18" Italian porcelain ceramic tiles were removed from my kitchen floor. All debris from the demolition was vacuumed up. The crack in the concrete slab (below the tiles) was filled with a special bonding compound and then covered with a membrane. Then, three matching new tiles (that I provided) were installed using matching grout that I also provided. (My understanding is that the membrane will prevent cracking of the replacement tiles.) Additionally, four decorative stone tiles were removed from the left side of my fireplace and replaced with slightly-wider, custom-cut tiles to accommodate the less-than-plumb, slightly-bulged wall adjacent to the fireplace. I was really impressed with the artistic skill used to correct/compensate for the original, sloppy-builder ugliness. (It was the installation of adjacent cabinetry by a different contractor that highlighted the need to correct the stone facing on the fireplace.) As an afterthought, I asked the tile contractor if he could repair an irregular-shaped chunk of broken floor tile (about three square inches) near my new cabinets. Not only did he custom cut the replacement tile, you absolutely would not notice the repair unless someone pointed it out to you.

It went really well. They did the work, the price was good, and I would recommend them. I would use them again.
Description of Work: They hauled a bunch of stuff away.
Very well. He is meticulous, courteous, timely, professional. He was also very patient with my many questions (including other areas of the home I asked him to look at for advise). He made sure that his subcontractors work was up to snuff and treated my home with respect. He replaced and textured drywall and around the window as well as water heater, installed baseboards, and painted to make it look new again.
Description of Work: After a water heater leak Kelly Bice rebuilt my walls, pantry shelves, baseboards, etc.
