I rent my home which is new and was built two years ago. My garage door would not go completely down and I did a Google search to find a garage door company to come out to repair it. I came across Heritage Garage Door's solicitation that they come out to provide an estimate for any necessary repair for $29. Of course, I thought this was a great deal because most of the other ones I had found charged anywhere from a range of $69-$99. I called to find out details and scheduled an appointment. I was informed that the $29 would cover the technician to come out to determine what the issue is. If I decided to move forward with the needed repair, the $29 would be waived ( or go toward the repair cost). This sounded typical for most service/call repairs. I made an appointment and a technician came out the next day. Jay Zeitazi, is the technician that came to my home. He was very nice but unfortunately it became clearly evident that he is a scammer. When he first arrived to my home, he made it clear that the $29 only covered him coming out. He informed me that he needed to first do a test on the opener motor which normally cost $299, but he would give me a discount for $199. Because my home is fairly new, I was fairly confident that there was not a motor problem, so I was not willing to move forward with the motor test. I offered to pay the $29 and he could leave. This would mean that I pay $29 and I would still not know what was wrong with the garage - that was definitely not what I expected. I was angry and made a big uproar with Mr. Zeitazi about how I was told that I should at least know what was wrong if I paid the $29. He kept explaining that he could only know what was wrong if he performed the test. I was very expressive on how I thought the representative that I spoke to over the phone who scheduled my appointment did not correctly represent what the $29 covered. Mr. Zeitazi pretty much claimed that the $29 covered his gas surcharge used for him coming to my home. Because I was willing to end the repair visit, Mr. Zeitazi offered to do me a "favor" and only charge for another test with him using the "App" on his IPAD - a sensor test. This test would only cost me $129 - He gave me a guarantee that I would pay the $129 plus his gas surcharge of $19.21 at minimum for doing this. I still thought this was a ripoff. After going back and forth, I called my landlord to speak with him - I wanted my landlord to agree with me to not move forward because ultimately, my landlord would be paying for the repair. My landlord's agent spoke to Mr. Zeitazi on the phone - her argument was the same as mine; because she knew the system was fairly new and she was also confident that it had to be something minor. We agreed to just do the test because it seemed to be a waste to pay the $29 and then pay someone else to come out thereafter. After taking the phone from Mr. Zeitazi, I turned my back for about 30 seconds to end the call with my landlord's agent. Remarkably, the garage was then fixed! No "App" test was performed - no analysis of any kind was ever done. It then hit me - Mr. Zeitazi simply moved one of my sensors. The day before I took out my trash - the trash can must have hit the sensor and caused it to become unaligned. I paid $150.79 for the repair. I do not think that I should not be charged any money for the repair, but the whole experience was not fair nor ethical. I did call customer service and spoke to a General Manager. The General Manager informed me that he would be in contact with Mr. Zeitari to discuss my experience. Mr. Zeitari called me and was pretty much only concerned with me providing a bad review. He did indicate that he would try to provide me with some type of rebate or discount, because I had been in contact with a few other garage door companies that informed me a sensor alignment could run anywhere from $50-$75 dollars. It has been over three weeks and I have not received any discount or rebate to date. I will never do business with Heritage Garage Doors again. I will also inform the Home Owners Association in my Housing Development of what happened to me. I have also posted my experience on my social media. I am unsure if Mr. Zeitazi was taking advantage of me because I was a woman or because business had been slow (he told me that - in fact, I joked, "You will make it up on the next customer"). I rent my home so the landlord ultimately paid for the repair; so I really would have no reason to care that much about the situation. However, I treat my landlord's money like my own and I know what occurred was not ethical. I also do not want others to be taken advantage of. I would bet without a doubt that Mr. Zeitazi does this all of the time. I am unsure if all technicians that work for Heritage Garage Doors operate in the same manner, but please note that if you do schedule an appointment with Heritage, I would highly suggest that you request another technician.

Was doing research on the LiftMaster 8500 garage door and used their site to find Heritage as one of their ProVantage Authorized Dealers. Called around to a few companies on a Friday after noon and the quotes were more like we don't want your business prices. Called Heritage and got a hold of Trish at Heritage, based on what I described she verbally quoted me $599 to install the 8500 (seemed reasonable when you figured the internet cost was around $275 to $350 depending on what you got with it. The ones I saw for $275 only included the opener and none of the other things you would need while the ones in the $350 range came with lock, light, one opener, electric safety eye, and wall mount opener.) and $499 to replace the torsion spring (Most people would not need to do this but the system I had before had a propitiatory torguemaster spring that would only work with the idrive so it didn't matter what opener I bought I still had to replace it so you wouldn't more than likely need to encure this cost if you have a generic spring system most use.). Trish then asked me to email her photos of the door just to make sure she didn't miss anything along with any questions I might have and she would have her Sales Manager Bob contact me. On Monday I send over the email and in less than an hour I received a response letting me know Bob would be calling and then my phone rang and it was Bob. Wow, Bob was great told me based on my photos the quote was right and answered all my questions and concerns with the unit and also quoted me on the 8550 model which is the normal garage door opener for $499 installed but I like that with the 8500 my opener isn't hanging down in the middle of the room and is up on the wall next to the door (see photo). Asked him about the LiftMaster Internet Gateway and he told me he would include that in the price (saved $60 bucks there for me. BTW, if you have a smart phone you want the internet gateway. it's awesome!) and that it would include two remotes for the car too (yeah, all the internet ones I saw only included one so I saved another $40). Thought about it for a day or so and then contacted Trish to schedule and she set me up for 9am on Monday morning. At 9am on Monday I received a call thinking I was going to get the normal "We're on our way and will be there within an hour or so" but it was Bob their Sr. Tech letting me know he was hear and outside the garage. First some praise on Bob, this dude is professional and fast. I think he was done in less than an hour and a half maybe two ours after a little chit chat before and after. Came in looked at it all, we opened the door, Bob pulled everything he would need to complete the job and laid it out in an orderly fashion, then he pulled the old opener and spring system and put it all in his truck to be recycled. Then he put up the new spring system, then installed the open and all the extras that came with it making sure all the wires and everything looked great, then walked me through the whole system and how to use it, took my payment, handed me my receipt and was on his way. (I'm telling you it was worth the minor extra cost to have it installed for me. Even being mechanical it would have taken me at least two to three times longer than he took and that doesn't count the fact that I didn't have to deal with how tight to make the springs and some other things I was concerned about.) Thank you Trish, Sales Manager Bob, and Senior Technician Bob! It was great to work with all of you and Heritage Garage Doors. I hope to be referring you more business soon as my neighbors and friends ask me about my new LiftMaster 8500 you installed.

We purchased it from Heritage 12 years ago. We had new springs put on a few years ago. Steve came the day after we called. He knows everything about these doors and how they worked. He found 2 hinges that were broken, fixed the light, lubricated everything, made some adjustments and taught me what I needed to know about future repairs and if and when they would be needed. When we bought the door, we got a lifetime warranty on all of the parts so now charge on hinges and just the hourly charge of $85. Could not have been better.

After the work was done, the garage door and opener were less noisy, but they still made more noise than I was led to believe they would. I pointed that out to the installer. He called headquarters and I was put in touch with the salesman who sold me the job.. The salesman was very confrontational- he just kept repeating over and over that they had installed the most quiet opener available, that there was nothing more they could do (he hadn't been to the property to evaluate the new installation), and he insisted that I give a check to the installer for the full balance due. I gave the installer only part of the money that was due, and the installer left. I continued to complain about the noise level (to someone at headquarters). Eventually but begrudgingly, they sent someone out to look at the job. He made several adjustments, and most of the offensive noise did in fact go away, and I paid the full balance due. But that is not the end of the story. A few months later, a strange noise developed. I lubricated various joints, etc. but it didn't help. So I called the company and asked them to come look at it. I was told that I would be charged for the visit plus any repairs. I pointed out that I was within the1 year warranty period (given to me orally and in writing). I was then told that someone would call me back to set up an appointment. But no one called. So I called again. I was then told that someone had reviewed the paperwork, and that only the opener was covered by the warranty (but not the garage door nor any of the related hardware, e.g., the large springs they attached to it). I found this most interesting since the contract with Heritage states that there was and quot;a one year warranty on workmanship provided by Heritage Door.and quot; Most of the cost of this project was attributable to the door and related hardware, not the new opener. The salesman had told me there would be a 1 year warranty on the job- he didn't say it would only cover the opener. I'm no expert, but it sounds like the current noise is coming from the springs. Perhaps they weren't installed properly, or perhaps they need to be adjusted. I shouldn't have to pay to correct this type of problem, but if I do, I might as well retain a different company, one that will stand behind their work and honor their promises.
Description of Work: Heritage Garage Door converted my sectional roll-up garage door to a tilt-up garage door. They also replaced my opener. The pre-existing garage door and opener were fairly new and worked fine, but they were noisy and the noise bothered the person living above the garage. The reason for making the change (noise) was clearly pointed out to Heritage Garage Door Co.

Response from Heritage Garage Door
Heritage Garage Doors installed (member name removed)’s new garage door August 29, 2012. (member name removed)’s recollection of the installation and subsequent visit appear accurate. (member name removed) is, however, vague with reference to whom he spoke with when he was told that his call would not be covered under warranty and that it was only his opener that was covered by the warranty. Our warranty policy for materials and labor are as follows: “ ….. warranty covers installation on new merchandise installed by us for a period of one year from the date of original installation. This limited warranty does not cover merchandise or products that are damaged resulting from accident, misuse, abuse, or lack of manufacturers recommended maintenance, adjustments, or any addition of new or old merchandise not originally installed by us. This limited warranty is specific to the manufacturer’s warranty and recommendations. (member name removed) was advised upon his request for service that if the technician came to his home and did not find any problems due to the fault of materials or workmanship, that the service call would be billable. This was only meant as an advisement and not a fact of keeping us from coming to his home. A garage door has moving parts including springs, hinges, cables, rollers, etc and there will always be a certain amount of noise associated with the operation of any garage door. The installer and technician that performed the work at this site had a combined 28 years of service in the industry and both indicated that the door was installed properly and had limited noise. It is Heritage Garage Doors intent to see that all of its customer are satisfied with the product and the service. We have installed thousands of garage doors since 1989 and for this reason, believe that we have been providing such service for nearly 25 years. Thank you for allowing us to comment on a solid program of proven installation and service. Sincerely, Heritage Garage Doors

We originally purchased a Garage door from Heritage in 1989. We wanted to update the door with a new carriage style look so we called Heritage Back out to our home. Mike the estimator was very knowledgeable about the product line and the price was very fair (lower than Costco for the same door ) Steve installed the door on Monday July 31 he showed up on time and did a wonderful job installing the door. We are once again very please with Heritage Door and would recomend this company to all Angies List members.

We called Heritage out for an estimate as we were looking to replace out garage door. We recently had Costco and another garage door company out to give us a quote. Heritage offered a better price than the others and the estimator wasn't pushy and was very knowledgable about garage doors and garage door openers. We placed ourr order and they were back to install the door 4 days later. The installer was clean cut and very polite. He did a very nice job and even cleaned up after himself

Their price was very competitive. They were extremely professional. They did an excellent installation job. It's been almost a year and I've had no problems with the door. I would highly recommend them. I would have them do a pressure door for me. I've actually used them to fix another garage door in my parent's house.
