Once a customer awards Five Star Painting thier Project, We will discuss payment options. All residential projects are due to be paid in full when the project is complete. We do not request a deposit because we want you to feel that peace of mind that we wont nickle and dime you through the project. Five Star Painting accepts all major Credit Cards and has an option for Financing any job over 1000.00. For Angie's List Members Five Star Painting offers a 10% discount for any project. We also offer a 10% Military Discount. This discount may not be combined with any other offers and discounts. If an Angie's List member refers us to a friend or relative, we will pass along the discount.

Description of Work: I chose Five Star because of their high rating on Angie's List. Five Star is a franchise so everyone's experience can/will be different depending on the area where you live. If in Southern California, these are my recommendations if you hire Five Star: |1. If they don't start on the scheduled date, reschedule the job. I don't advise letting them try to catch up. |2. Review their "shopping list" of paint for accuracy if you buy your own. Don't assume it's correct. |3. Make sure they cover everything |4. Don't distract yourself with cleaning windows/blinds etc, but rather monitor the work as it's being done. |5. Do question everything |6. Don't pay until everything is done to your satisfaction |7. Insist on getting a "PAID" receipt issued by the company |8. DON'T PAY BY CASH! | |The reason they didn't get a lower grade is because paint WAS applied to the walls and one ceiling and the 5 guys on the painting team were very nice. | |* The rest of the story.... |Had a different company (found them through local phone book - sorry Angie) repaint the areas of concern to my satisfaction. They charged LESS than the "discounted rate" that Five Star quoted me to repaint. And, they did a great job!

We appreciate your feedback and are sorry for your experience with our office. We understand your frustration and will strive to improve in our services and best in class customer dedication. We have taken to record your concerns and will address each item. 1. Prior to starting this project, we had informed the customer of a previous customer that we were finishing, had requested additional work that would delay our start of 1 day. We were informed this was no problem and we could start the following day. We try to keep our schedule as much as possible but every now and then a customer will increase the amount of work during or at the end of the project and will sometimes push back our schedule. We will work on maintaining a schedule as to not interfere and delay other projects. 2. We offer customers the option to purchase their own paint for a significant discount without the painter markup by utilizing our suppliers and our pricing. In this option, we provide recommended products and quantities for the project with specific product brochures that were included with the original estimate for this project. We have product recommendations for specific project needs and results. I would like to state we had no quantity issue. The issue was the customer had a provided a flat non-enamel finish product for all walls throughout the home. We had recommended an eggshell enamel finish for all walls. No mention during the estimate for a request of a semi gloss finish for the kitchen, breakfast nook, laundry or main level bath, the eggshell recommended. This concern was brought to our attention after the project was completed. We reviewed the quote/products recommended and customer chose another product and supplier resulting with a finish we did not recommend. We had recommended an eggshell finish that would have provide a durable and washable finish for all the walls in all areas. After a second estimate appointment was set up with the customer to address these areas, the customer requested we repaint the areas with a semi gloss that was purchased much after the completion of the 1st project for free. We discussed with the customer that we could not cover labor on products and finishes that we did not recommend. As understanding with the frustration of the different finish provided by the customer, we had offered to the customer a more than 40% discount to just cover the actual cost of labor to repaint the 4 areas with no overhead or profit for our office. The customer did not agree to this and wanted all labor to be free. 3. It is our policy and noted on the proposal with the work order to protect all areas not to be painted as part of every project standards. We even strive to cover floors to the areas to be worked from the main entry. We will reassure the crews are performing this on our projects while we stop on in on the project management. 4. We complete projects everyday with customers around or away and have awesome results. People are usually performing higher quality when a customer is not on top of them and leave them alone till the end of the project and then inspect for anything missed. 5. We do encourage our customers to ask as many questions as possible. We try to educate customer as much as possible during our estimates and throughout the project. We pride ourselves to inform customers what and why we do things along with why to use certain products that we know we can stand behind to perform well for the customer. 6. Our policy is no down payment and payment upon completion. We walked and took care of any issues pointed out. Payment was received afterwards like all projects. We never ask for payment until the project is finish. Also it is our policy if a customer does notice any need for touch up long after we are finished, we ask them to simply just call and we will come take care of it. My policy for 24 years. 7. We offer a paid in full on the contract with signature or an invoice. We signed off on customers contract and dated. 8. We take all forms of payment, cash, check, credit cards and even offer 180 days same as cash financing for the convenience to the customer. I do feel that the frustration overweighs the grade we received as the work was completed well with only a delay by 1 day due to a previous customer that asked for more work and was extremely happy with what we provided. Part of customer service is taking care of customer even when they want additional work that takes more time than scheduled. We will work on our scheduling not to deter future customers. We will strive even harder to properly inform our customers even better than before.

When I called Five Star Painting, I spoke to a very pleasant and friendly receptionist. After asking me a few questions, she had me speak to the lead painter Randy who was also very nice. The painter came to my daughter's house for an estimate, which was reasonable and would only take one day. He was also able to schedule the painting the same week. Two painters arrived in the morning an hour late. They were, though, very nice and explained everything they were going to do. They answered all of our questions, too. They worked for about 21/2 hours and took an extended break of over 2 hours. When they finally returned, they worked a couple more hours and asked if they could return the next day. My daughter and I began to panic a little since the party was in 2 days at this point. Randy called later to see how everything had gone. He was not happy when he learned that the painters had not finished. He promised that the painting would be finished even if he had to stay to insure that this would happen. Randy said he would be at my daughter's house in the morning before the painters arrived - late again. He spoke to the painters outside, which my daughter and I both appreciated. There was no uncomfortableness when everyone came in. Two painters arrived, followed a little later by the painters' crew leader. Randy and the crew leader had a discussion about the number of coats of paint to be applied to the ceiling. Randy thought it could be done in 1 coat because of the quality of the paint. However, it was apparent that the ceiling would need 2 coats. Since Randy had based that part of the estimate on one coat, he told us that it was the painters' fault. He agreed that the ceiling needed another coat and DID NOT CHARGE MY DAUGHTER FOR IT. Needless to say, we were very happy about that.! The crew leader stayed and called another painter to assist, so we had a total of 4 painters working. My daughter's fireplace, which was in terrible condition, looked beautiful when they finished with it. After several hours, the painters finished, cleaned up, and left. The rooms looked wonderful, there were no paint spills or splatters, and everyone had been very nice and professional. Even with the small issues that arose, everything was handled quietly and, again, professionally. Be sure to ask and check about all the details included in your estimate. We thought that the window casings were included, but they weren't.
Description of Work: The provider painted a kitchen and great room for my daughter and son-in-law who were having a baby gender reveal party at the end of the week (nothing like last minute planning).

I hired Mike with 5 star thru Thumbtack not angies list, either way they were amazing. It went fabulously. The crew was very friendly and professional and not only do I recommend them I say use them only. Mike was so helpful and informative. He came everyday to make sure things were going according to plan. He gave timely and very useful insight. Danny, Freddy and Monty were very sincere, honest and hard working. Most importantly all of them cared about the quality of the finished product. I have to say I absolutely love it, it is most spectacularly beautiful and completely transformed.
Description of Work: Remove old wallpaper, patch holes, repair/replace baseboards and paint entire house including baseboards, doors, inside and outside of cabinets and closets, and window sills.

Mike, the owner, met up with John, the painter, very early at my home on the designated day. They moved large pieces of furniture together and briefly discussed the job. John got going and was finished with the work in what I thought was record time. Beautiful job. Very tidy.....not a trace of the visit after they left, except, of course for the beautiful new look in the master bedroom. I am very pleased and will definitely use Five Star again in the future. The owner was so nice. He went out of his way to make everything perfect. He was very detail oriented. He did an extraordinary job. He did the job in about 2 and a half days. Even found special paint for us that we wanted. He didn't over quote on price either. He found ways to reduce the cost for us as well. He cleaned up everything and left no mess. He really went the extra mile.
