We hired a company, CF Design Center, to do some remodeling. Install Kitchen Granite CounterTop, Travertine Backsplash, Master Bath and Powder Room Granite Counter Top, and Stacked Stone Fireplaces in Living Room and Master Bed Room at a cost of $28,575. Jordy Novelo was our salesman who claimed he was part owner of the business with his brother. The work started on 3/10 and we decided at that time to add the master bath and shower to the contract for an additional $5100 but did not want that work to start until the 1st contract work was complete. We had thought the 1st contract work was completed satisfactorily, however, upon review with new contractor we learned and discovered several issues such as stacked stone missing in areas, incorrect spacing between tiles, no grout/fill in spacing , incorrect stone work covering fireplace vents which could cause fire, granite slab cut in 3 places and pieced together instead of single slab. In addition, the patch job that was done on ceiling and crown molding is not invisible after painting, as promised, and will cost an additional $300 to fix and repaint. Based on how the stacked stone was applied there are questions around whether it was properly adhered to the wall and studs to prevent the wall from caving in. During installation of the backsplash too much grout was used and they did not apply a sealer to the stone as recommended by the backsplash manufacturer. It took a crew of 1-3 people for approximately 5 days trying to get the grout out of the stone. The shower demo started on approx 3/20 or 3/21. On 3/25, when Jordy Novelo inspected the demo of the shower it was determined that we could extend the shower by approximately a foot and we elected to pay an additional $1300 for the extension and were told told that worst case scenario the shower would be complete in 9 days. We elected for them not to work on Sat 3/29 so that meant shower work should be complete by 4/4 at the latest. On 4/9 I received a text message that they would need a few more days. On 4/15, upon inspection of their work I determined that the shower work would not be complete for possibly a few more weeks. The ceiling was slanted, there was sloppy uneven tile work, there were screws through tile in the roof of shower, they had drilled holes in a tile which was to be the drain. They had two pieces of tile put together to frame a border around several parts of the shower which they planned to bullnose but the one piece they completed did not look good at all. They put this at the top of the shower area stacked together and it looked horrible. It was at this point I called Jordy and said I did not want anyone to show up the following day because I was VERY upset and I needed to determine what to do. In the morning I called the company, SD Tile Guy, to come out and look at the job. He stated that the hotmopping was done incorrectly, the benches in the shower area should have been hot mopped and it should have gone from the shower floor up and over the tub deck to avoid any water getting in behind the fiberglass tub. He told me I could have leaks, the tile job was horrible, they had used very low grade travertine, the drain holes were just wrong, and the new valve they put on was clogged with their plaster/mud and would not be useable. The hole they put in the tile to bring the shower plumbing through looked like someone had punched a hole in the tile to get the pipe through it. The tile was not plumb to the wall and was wavy and the tile was not lined up to 1/16 of an inch so in some areas there were cracks and or larger gaps. Also a tile mosaic tree we had purchased as inspiration for the shower had been cracked on the side. He confirmed what I already knew by just looking at it that it was not done properly. He would have to demo the whole thing and start over, plus it would cost me almost $14,000 to demo, repair and build back up. Upon demo, it was confirmed that hotmopping had not been done correctly and the water would have gotten through and created dampness and mold issues, electrical rerouting was done completely wrong and could have started fire, the mosaic tree we purchased was mortared to the external stucco wall and could not be saved. Thank God we finally had enough and fired this company. Our house could have burned down and/or we could have had mold remediation issues down the line. Unfortunately we had paid this contractor by check for everything except $2,000 which we have refused to pay. I walked into a Murrieta Storefront, with CF Design Center listed, with my husband and sister in law. I stupidly assumed because I went into a store that the company would be appropriately licensed and did not ask for the information. On many occasions I was told by Jordy that they were a million dollar company with a million dollar insurance policy. You are protected, if there is a problem, we will tear it out and redo it. On 4/17 when I asked for their license and insurance information I was told that they can sit down and review that information with us and then he started blaming me for my slanted ceiling because I wasn't there that day for his crew to ask questions. I was flabbergasted and told Jordy I cannot believe that you are trying to blame this on me and told him that I did not need to meet with him and that he should send me the information. I have a couple texts where I asked for this information and he would not provide. Upon further investigation by myself, the City of Murrieta, my new contractor and the Contractors State License Board all believe he does not have a contractors license.
Description of Work: Buyer Beware! This company goes under many names - Castle Flooring, C&F Design Center, C & F Services. They have a Design Center storefront in Murrieta. We assumed they were licensed but after things went very bad, upon request for information and search of CSLB website they do not appear to be licensed. Unfortunately, we are paying the price for not doing the research ahead of time. This company destroyed my Master Bathroom and I've had to hire another company to demo what they did and rebuild it.
