Description of Work: reupholstered two queen anne wingback chairs. Helped us with fabric selection. Very knowledgeable about fabric quality, wearing tendencies,etc. replaced padding and provided arm and headrest "protectors." Free pickup and delivery. Very satisfied.

They were very good. I can't remember how much it cost. I tend to be a shopper so chances are it was reasonably done. It was not outrageous. The service was excellent. They picked up the chair and they delivered the chair. Everything was on time. The quality of work was good.

Sterling did a good quality job making cushions for my rocking chair, at a good price. However, I asked them to replace the original cushions, and they instead replaced 1" thick cushions with 4" thick cushions. The new cushions were so thick that you couldn't sit comfortably in the chair. They took the chair back without any hassle, and the second time around I got 3" cushions, which still are not as comfortable as the original worn-out cushions. But they will "do". I got the feeling they weren't really paying attention.
Description of Work: Replace cushions for a wooden rocking chair.

The company was very prompt from beginning to end and did a beautiful job on the pieces. Their prices seem quite high but it has been a long time since we have had furniture recovered and we didn't comparison shop. Next time I will comparison shop before settling on one vendor. The product would have been better if they had tied the seat cushion tighter because it sags in the middle.
Description of Work: reupholster an antique lounge chair and matching foot stool. The company matched the fabric designs perfectly on the chair and the footstool.

The first fabric I chose was on back order for months. Sterling found a good match within a couple of days and I had the chairs back within three weeks of my initial call. They also picked up and delivered the chairs for no extra charge, even though I live 20 miles from their storefront. (Sweet!) These chairs were favored reading chairs and I was concerned that they might not be as comfortable after reupholstering. Thankfully that didn't stop me- the chairs are now beautiful and comfortable and have retained their favorite chair status. I wholeheartedly recommend Sterling and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Fabric re-upholstery with some extra foam padding added. Big throw pillows re-covered re-using existing braid trim.

I am the Household Manager. Following is the owner's account of what happened when she called Sterling Upholstery to upholster the bar stool seats: I spoke with a man named Dave (Owner, David Cole). When I told Dave what I wanted, he told me I should go with "Alternative Leather." I asked him if he meant vinyl and he said, "well, if you want to call it that..." Yes, I do - that's what it is! He went into a rant about how the tanning process of leather (that went into making the old style of recliners that our fathers had) had destroyed the ozone so it wasn't used anymore and the new process produces a leather that is not durable and I wouldn't be happy with it. He told me I don't want leather. Then Dave proceeded to tell me that leather was very expensive and I would have to buy a whole hide and that I couldn't afford it. (How does he know what I can and cannot afford?! Also, I could not find anything to support his "tanning destroyed the ozone" theory on the Internet during a quick search.) When I responded that I was not interested in vinyl or anything synthetic, as I only have natural products in my home, including multiple pieces of furniture in leather, some of which are twenty years old and still in like new condition, Dave responded that he had been in business for 42 years. (Huh?) Then, out of curiosity, I asked him how expensive a hide was to buy, Dave said it would be between $750 and $900. I told him that this sounded reasonable. He did an about face and said, sweetly, "Then come on in and ask for Dave." I was shocked. I said, "I don't know if you realize how you come across, but you are very condescending and patronizing, and I'd have to be insane to come in after the conversation we just had." At that point, he hung up on me. I immediately found another local upholstery company (Morales Custom Upholstery) that did a fantastic leather job on the bar stool seats. The hide cost $400, and they gave me the extra unused leather.

I couldn't be happier with their work. When visiting their store, owner Dave helped me navigate through the fabric selections, finding an excellent choice for me with an unerring eye. I took sample books home with me over the weekend (at no charge). Pickup was promptly arranged the day after I called, within a two-hour time frame, not a whole-day or half-day time frame that so many companies require. Calling to confirm receipt of the chairs, Dave made an excellent suggestion about modifying the welt around the bottom of the chair. The other employees to whom I spoke were friendly, knowledgeable about my order, and clearly focused on customer service. Their pricing was very reasonable. The chairs were done well within the time estimate given. The chairs look like new (actually, better than they looked new). I recommend Sterling very highly.
Description of Work: Sterling recovered eight oak dining room chairs, also treating and polishing the wood. Their services included pickup and drop off of the chairs.

They first made the beds cushions, finished on time and delivered free of charge. They picked up the 4 sofas back cushions, re-stuffed them in one day and delivered them for free. They were very helpful in their advices, always very nice and reliable.

They picked it up promptly, delivered it on schedule and even accelerated the work to get it done within my requested schedule. They were very friendly.

We selected fabric, but soon after got a phone call saying that one of the fabrics was not performing adequately and we should choose another. We went to the store and were given personal attention until we selected fabric we liked and that was appropriate to what we wanted. Because we had to make a special trip, we were offered either a pillow or a table runner for free in the same fabric for our trouble. We selected a table runner. About 10 days later, we got a phone call saying our chairs were ready. They were delivered on time, by courteous employees and looked great. We are completely satisfied.
Description of Work: We had 9 dining room chairs reupholstered.

Overall, very satisfied with the result. They had a very large selection of fabrics available to choose from. Once we chose a fabric, they came and picked up the piece. The work took about 4 weeks and then they delivered the completed chair to the house. They basically stripped the chair down to the frame and re-stuffed it so it is like brand new. I was shocked at how good it looked when it came back. I didn't realize how beat up it had become over the years. The end result looks GREAT. Price is a bit more than I really wanted to pay, but I can't complain with the result.
Description of Work: We had an oversized armchair and ottoman that we wanted to get reupholstered. We contracted with Sterling to get the project done.

They did a great job in an amazingly short amount of time - 2-3 weeks from start to finish - for a very reasonable price overall. I had considered using another company, but they just didn't have much of a selection of colors in the microfiber fabrics I wanted. Sterling had an awesome selection of colors and their total price came in a little less than the other company. The other company also was going to take 6-8 weeks to do the job. Sterling had my furniture back to me in less than 3 weeks! My furniture looks like new and cost a fraction of what new furniture would have been.
Description of Work: They reupholstered my living room sectional, several chairs and love seats, and custom made a window seat cushion.

we selected the alternative materials. Dave's crew picked up both couches at the appointed time. 2 weeks later they returned the couches to us on schedule and budget. Quality of the work is impeccable and no less than we expected. The alternative material feels and looks like leather. His crew actually improved on the original construction and materials [pads, stuffing, etc.]
Description of Work: We have 2 leather couches that were in desperate need of recovering and general repair. After finding them listed here we made an appointment to meet them at their shop to go over costs, materials and to get a feel for them. We met with Dave and he took all the time we needed to explain to us his business, his business practices and to let us establish a basis for doing business with him. He toured us thru the shop, explaining the process and showing us some work in process. After about an hour we were ready to discuss material selection and color. We had intended to redo the leather [which did not hold up in the original material. Dave talked to us about leather alternatives and brought out some samples. From his standpoint our selection made no difference because the labor charges were the same regardless of material. From our side the cost was roughly double with the leather, and with the same problems with durability that we had with the original leather.

Pleasant, helpful, and skilled work from the initial phone consultation. Detailed estimate was provided and the final product is even more beautiful than I had hoped. Excellent workmanship. The gentlemen who picked up and delivered the finished chairs were delightful and on time as arranged. The delivery date was as promised - maybe even a day or two early.

There was a large selection of fabric to choose from in the store. Pickup and delivery was timely, and free of charge. The work was performed in 10 business days. The salesperson was extremely pleasant and very responsive. The chair looks beautiful.

We were given samples of cloth to take home. It was hard to choose, so we brought in one of the chairs into the shop, and David spent a lot of time with us, showing sample after sample. He was very knowledgeable, explaining why this fabric would work better than that fabric, what is stain-proof, etc. He also showed us other chairs that had been done for another customer and suggested that he would add in piping to the edge of each seat for a finished look. The chairs look fantastic and make the dining room set look really good. One would never know that we picked up the dining room set for free from a neighbor who no longer had any use for it. The hand-me-down chairs are really stunning. I highly recommend Sterling. I'm very happy with the job, and the chairs are so comfortable to sit in too. The padding is firm. Sterling also picks up and delivers the furniture from your house. I did have to call them after 10 days to see what the status was, and they promptly delivered the next day.

They were excellent! They advertised in a flyer and they offered coupons. They had a lot of choices of different patterns and designs. However, it did take a little while to get our chairs back as the company is very busy. When we did, they looked great.

THE COMPANY HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR A LONG TIME. I'M NOT SURE THE PRICE IS AS GOOD A DEAL AS THE COMPANY'S ADS INDICATE; WHILE THE LABOR CHARGE SEEMS REASONABLE, THE COMPANY CHARGES FULL RETAIL PRICE FOR THE FABRIC.
