Stanford Painting

I called Stanford about painting sections of my house. The sections needed painting because of door repair, stucco repair, and for maintenance of the window frames of an enclosed patio room. The estimator said it was a smaller job than Stanford usually handled, but he recommended a painter who could handle a small job quicker than Stanford, and who would also be able to help me with repair of a window frame. I did call and hire the painter the Stanford estimator recommended who did a very good job on the painting. (It turned out the window frame was too rotten for a simple fix and needed replacement, which I had someone else handle.) I'm very appreciative that the Stanford estimator was honest and considerate enough to direct me to a good solution to my needs, even though it meant no business for Stanford.

We are very pleased with the performance. Frank Hampton (manager) followed up closely. Workers came in on time and there was no 'goofing' during work hours. They did an excellent job especially on eaves and semi-hidden areas. Price is slight higher than others but it is worthwhile with 5-year warranty.

Stanford Painting provided a very competitive quote for painting using heat reflective paint (Kelly-Moore enviro-coat). Job started on-schedule. Many residents commented on the crew being very responsive and polite. Job crew was very diligent - they worked through some 100+ days w/o delay, so they should be commended for that. Communication via email/phone with the owner and job supervisors was always prompt and excellent. Their responsiveness to our concerns was superb. Had a few issues with cleanup and usage of residents water faucets, but they were all quickly corrected as soon as I contacted the supervisors. Job was also estimated for 2.5-3 weeks and it took a bit over 4 weeks, but that included some delays due to weather and the 4th of July holiday. Overall, they did an outstanding job: professional, timely, great communication, great quality of work, polite crew - I will not hesitate to use them again in the future.

Jay Furlong came out to estimate. Provided it promptly. We decided to use them. The job foreman was an excellent point of contact. They did a nice job. Almost as simple as that. And I would use them again. They came back to clean up one section because they didn't think it was quite right. I hadn't noticed. Maybe I would have. Good quality work in any case. When they removed the screens from the windows, they pried them off from the outside. If they'd asked us, we'd have done it from the inside and saved some hassle putting them back on. Not a big deal, but pretty annoying.

Generally the job went very well. Stanford Painting was the cheapest "high-end" bid (bids went up to $50K). Jay, the owner, was very easy-going and quite responsive. My only small problem was that in one room where we were very indecisive, we started to buy and paint samples on ourselves (because having them do it would have cost something like $25 per sample). I wish we had been warned that if an amateur puts on too many, too thick samples, one risks creating visible brushstrokes that can't be hidden in the eventual final job. However, in general everything looks very nice and Jay's and his crew's suggestions about choices were good. And they were all quite patient with our slow choices.

I would rate this contractor at the top of the list. Price was fair. Quote was quick and once I accepted it I was able to have the work done in a very short time. Workers on site were courteous, friendly and trustworthy. They were even able to match my paint well. Job was completed a bit early and the work was well done.

Stanford Painting did an excellent job at my home. Jay was helpful in my first contact with him and since there was an opening for the following week to start the power washing, I was anxious to get the work done. Sego was the foreman on the project and did an excellent job communicating with me for all of a variety of details regarding my complex home. There was great care taken to protect the new roof and the rest of the property as well. I think the price was fair, but also costly as I did have three structures and wanted two coats of paint applied. One thing that is puzzling is the color, as I really believed that my Creekbed Benjamin Moore 1006 was a grey taupe. It's turned out to be more of a brown taupe. Unfortunately, I didn't take Jay's advice and talk to Frank. So, the bottom line is that I'll live with the color for a year and perhaps repaint next year. It will be a less complicated job, as I had extensive prep work that needed to be done this year. The crew was also respectful of my electrician that I had on the property on Tuesday, as I needed him to complete work before the paint was applied. I wish I had a spring in my step regarding the color, but I take responsibility for that, of course. I do believe that you get what you pay for and even though I got estimates that were much lower than the one from Stanford, I believe that the quality of the product would have reflected that.

Our house needed better than a week of preparation work with a full priming coat and repairs to wood trim. SP treated the work space as if lead paint was present and kept a very neat job site. Protection of plants and nearby fixtures was also well executed. Prior to the job start an estimate was given and in our case it was firm fixed price. Jay also helped with final color selection including painting several large patches of colors, very helpful input. The job was completed about a day ahead of schedule. There were a couple of design decisions made at the start of the project that once we were into the work were improved upon with suggestions from the supervisor. We so appreciated this expertise and flexibility on their part.

They were superb. They touched things up and they were really conscientious. We had carpet laid after they were done painting and the carpet people scarred up the paint a little bit and they came in and cheerfully touched it up with no squabbles and at no extra charge. The foreman, Frank Hampton, was really good about communicating. He has a cell phone and you can actually reach him and talk to him. He is very responsive. We wanted to have him test for lead paint because it’s an older home. He tested for that and the results were very good. The price was an A for the interior but they were a little bit high for the exterior; their quality was really good so I would still give them an A. They came first thing in the morning and stayed late until they got the job done.

Our second time with Stanford Painting. Excellent quality work - Jay helped us get precisely the right colors; the work team was professional and careful, from beginning to end; the quality of the prep work (including some needed wood repairing) was excellent. The team was courteous, responsive, on time, cleaned up every day, and everything went according to schedule. I highly recommend them.

Second time of using Stanford painting following previous very satisfactory experiene.Called for an estimate. Recieved an estimate the following day. Crew started promptly the day following the estimate. Crew was professional and punctual. Work areas were always cleaned each day. Job completed on time (several days). Execelent quality. Outstnding. Will use again.

They did good work. I was pleased with their service.

The price was similar to another estimate I got. I thought he was very professional, efficient and followed up to see if I had any questions. He mailed me the estimate.

They were able to do the job very quickly. We have used them previously around 10 years ago for a different job. I don't really know about the price because I didn't talk to other people. They could do the job, and the price was fair, so I have no idea of comparative price.

They did excellent quality work. They were just superb. I highly recommend them.

At first I thought the estimate a little high, compared with other estimates. However, the painters spent a lot of time doing it right--it looks better than ever and will probably last ten years. It was a bigger job than I realized and I believe it took longer than estimated, but Jay stuck to the estimate. The painters were friendly, professional and cleaned up carefully at the end of each day. We will use them again.

I spent about $6000. They were good. They were professional. They come and they don?t leave the house until they clean. Their price was fair.

We were very happy with them because the paint job they did still looks excellent. We have a lot of wood trim and overhangs and the rest of the house is stucco so they needed two types of paint. We have our house pressure washed every other year and I think that has helped the color stay nice. The whole experience with them was pleasurable and there isn?t anything I dislike about them.

They did good work. They were on time, cleaned up afterwards and did a fine job. They were professional and courteous.

The estimate was timely and accurate. The work was started and completed on time. The work crew was friendly and professional. There was no clean up left to do after they left. They did an excellent job of keeping dust off our furniture. The end results are great and all our neighbors like our blue front door!

Jay arrived very promptly and spent about 20 minutes surveying our house and talking with me about the techniques and materials his company would use if it did the work for us. Jay seemed eager to do the job, he seemed professional and knowledgeable. He mailed me his bid, which I received the next day. I ultimately did not award him the contract. His two competitors bids were each in the $3600-$4400 range, while Stanford's bid was $7800, which seemed out of line on the high end. A possible explanation is that I was comparing apples and oranges. Jay stressed that his company always used 2 full coats of paint. The other two companies bidding on the contract did not stress that, and one said that given the relatively good condition of the house, that two coats was unnecessary--spot priming with one "spray and brush" coat would be more than enough. I did not know who was "right", although two reputable painters from Angie's list bid a lot lower than Stanford. It could be that there is just a difference in painting philosophy. I imagine that if your house needs a lot of prep work and could really benefit from two full coats of paint that Stanford painting would be competitive.

Very good experience. I have a very old house that has many origional windows from 1926. The paint job was old and they spent a huge amount of time on prep - which as we all know is the most important part of a paint job. I felt the workers were experienced, professional and did a quality job. They showed up every day, worked hard, were very easy to work with and immediately returned back for touch-ups or small rework requested. I would defintely recommend them and use them again.
