Cal Preserving

They were hammering down the protrudeing nails but not all. The handyman who did this 2 years ago did a better job preparing the deck before staining it and I paid him one fourth the price that Cal preserving charged.

Owner Bruce Watkins is good to work with. When his crew failed to cover & protect our lower deck and it got horribly spotted with stain drips from the upper deck, he had them pressure wash the lower deck to remove the stains. Unfortunately, they left resealing the lower deck after their pressure washing fix to us -- not an insubstantial and inexpensive task that would otherwise not have been needed if the deck had been covered as it should. Bruce recommended the product to use and eventually we did it ourselves, but not happily so. Overall we were satisfied but the experience could have been better if the crew was more careful.

Professional. Arrived on time. Front area of deck was beautifully done. Owner called to make certain I was happy with the work. I had questions about a small area behind the barbecue. It appeared darker. Followed through on commitment to revisit and evaluate the area. Set in stain unremovable. I would highly recommend. Reliable, honest, good work ethic.

We've used Bruce and cal Preserving multiple times over the years. The deck, which is heart redwood, came out looking great, including railings and steps. We had some dry rot which a handyman wanted $800 for and made a big deal about trying to fix. Bruce's guys knew exactly what to do and did the repairs perfectly, with no fuss and for a fraction of the other guy's proposal yet did more repairs than he proposed.

Great they came out can performed what they promised to do and earned my trust.

Excellent work, very reasonable price, and all contact with the workers was professional and on time. Work was done as described and promised.

I thought I had submitted a review soon after the job ( 2 or more years ago I think.) Now I cannot remember the details other than the men did a fabulous job - worked incredibly hard and were incredibly nice to deal with. I think the cost was very reasonable. Work was done in a very timely fashion despite very bad (rainy) weather.

I was unable to use the big deal due to the extra cost associated with the service to be completed. They were polite and professional when they were here for the estimate. It just came back too high.

Work was done well. My only issue is that I was never sure when work was going to be done. When the power washing was done, I knew ahead of time so I could be here. But when the carpenter came and the final sanding / sealing was done, I had no idea someone was coming to do the work. I didn't even know work had been done until neighbors complimented me on the deck (I get home from work after dark, so I couldn't see that work had done until the next morning.) Other than not having a clear idea as to when work was being done, I'm very happy with the project.

He gave an estimate on timely manner; he said that it was in bad shape so it was possible that it will need to be sanded so they would have to go to do the power wash first and then we discuss whether I want to go ahead and pay for the sanding as well. I think somebody tried to do a power wash and they know what they are doing; they have dug deep groove into the woods so he really need that sanding. He did some other work on my trellis that was not included on the 289$ deal, he did power wash, bleaching, and preserving on it; he did an additional charge on it as well. They did a great job!

work was done promptly and efficiently. deck was washed, repaired, preserved and restored nicely.

Everything went very well. They were very responsive when I asked for a quote, sent a detailed quote and took the time to explain the work to me. I am immensley pleased with the work and would certainly use them again in the future. The team that performed the work was punctual, efficient and very professional. Thanks for a great experience.

Our experience with them was really good. They did a really good job. We found them on Angie's List. They were excellent. They were just very professional.

This the third time I have used Cal Preserving. I am very satisfied wit the service.

I bought an Angie's list coupon for washing, bleaching and preserving deck (should have looked closer becauseonly covered the horizontal deck not the railings). The crew was very polite and I felt honest with me about the need to replace some boards also the entire top of railing which was in pretty bad shape. I have had the deck for 12 yrs and never have done anything with it. Because of weather (deck did not dry) it took 3 half days which was a bit of a problem (since I had to goto work). I am very please with the results.

Since the process took longer than we had originally anticipated, the applicable areas were bleached and powerwashed a second time. We had a lot of questions since the deck was newly replaced and we had never bleached, powerwashed, or preserved the old deck. Issues and questions did arise several times, as the work progressed, and Bruce addressed them. After I changed my mind about the paint color above the laundry room doors, the area was repainted a different color.

Whenever we have called with any questions or concerns, Bruce has followed through to make it right. He's both a good and honorable business owner, and we will be calling him again soon for more maintenance.

Bruce came out and gave an estimate. The work was done quickly and the difference is night and day. Now the water beads up on it and flows through the cracks rather than collecting in pools and damaging the wood. It was a very old deck, and with his help, it will probably last many more years now.

Used their email ?contact us? option. Got a call and an email the next day. Owner was out doing other estimates & job checks & was able to fit me in that day. Very nice guy, easy to work with, clear & focused on what needed to be done and what was recommended, gave good information and suggestions that really helped me understand the situation. Got a clear, focused & well-written proposal for the work outlining a basic approach and including additional options based on my assessment of the deck after it was washed & discussion with owner. Work was started within a few days of my acceptance of the proposal. Great was great, very nice, easy to work with. They are employees of the company, so there is a strong affinity for the work they are doing, and the owner knows all of the crew?most of them have been working there for awhile. Work was quick, efficient, with attention to detail. The crew foreman talked to me after the power washing to give me an update on the state of the wood & next steps. Some of the work in the bid wasn't needed because there wasn't as much damage as originally thought. Bruce, the owner was in *regular* email communication during the job with me, so I always felt in the loop. Detailed check-in on the phone after the work, and he offered a "walk-thru" of the work. From the start the owner states it is their policy to do exceptional work and work with the customer if their are issues. There were no issues. I was exceptionally happy with the work. High quality work finished on time, on budget, exceeding my expectations on quality.

I called Cal-Preserve and was able to schedule an appointment when the weather permitted. The workers, who power washed the deck, were very careful not to damage the wood. They used relatively low pressure and went over the surface several times. Since this deck has had no maintenance for many years, I decided to have it sanded. They were very thorough in their sanding and did some of the fine-sanding, with hand-held, belt and disk sanders. The application of the wood preservative made the deck look almost new.

They did this work isn the rain, so I don't really know how throughly it was done.

Overall it went well. There were some issues with discoloration due to the preservative used but the companyresponded to the issues very quickly.

It turned out very good. I would recommend them.

Bruce was very prompt in responding to my request for an estimate. He was also very flexible in working around my schedule. I actually measured the deck for him because there is no access from the street and I didn't want to take an additional day off from work. He was very nice/flexible about working around my schedule. It took a while for us to schedule the work (mostly because of the weather and my schedule) but his crew was very punctual on the days the work was actually done. His crew is also very professional and neat--no blaring of loud music or noise (I hardly knew they were there). They had to come inside the house in order to reach the upstairs balcony and were very considerate about the rugs and the hardwood flooring--not a mark. The best part of all is that the deck now looks beautiful--practically brand new. Re: cost/value, I gave them a B because it's hard to rate the overall cost because I purchased an Angie's List coupon and didn't get any other estimates. But in terms of value to me in terms of my time and convenience and the outcome, it was really worth the cost. Bottom line: they were great to work with and I would highly recommend them.
