Cal Preserving

They did not actually do any work for me but the interaction I had with them was good. My deck is falling apart and old. The problem I have is, they could tell me how much it would cost to rip it down like take it apart and refurbish it but the variable is how much will it would it cost me to replace all the wood that needs to be replaced. I can get a ballpark from them but until they get in here and start ripping it apart and seeing what it really needs to be replaced and costing of the materials and stuff. It is like I needed a definite dollar amount from them to wrap my head around. He was good about working with me on that. He tried and gave me a ball park. It was more than what I wanted to spend. I am sure that would be the case with anybody who comes in to look at the deck because some of the wood is rotted, but not all of the wood, it was like they would take it all apart, refurbish, stain it and all that. But if you want to replace all that it would be an additional cost. The deck is huge. It is at least 30 years old. They quoted $3500 plus the material so I was wondering what the materials would cost another 2 grant I don’t know. I don’t have any concept of the cost of wood.

Cal Preserving did excellent work restoring the natural beauty of our redwood deck. The deck still looks great one year later. They were punctual, careful, and cleaned up diligently. I would definitely recommend Cal Preserving.

They did an excellent job and I am extremely happy with the result. They were very knowledgeable and professional. I would use them again. The only negative was that I wasn't expecting it to cost as much as it did, although it the final result was well worth the price.

Nice people, but the total estimate for what I needed was more than I was prepared to pay.

I am very happy with the result of Cal Preserving's work on my patio deck. A very good value for money in my opinion. Bruce Watkins was responsive to my request for a quote, and did his best to get the work done in a timely manner. Cal Preserving is busy (and good for them!) so it took several conversations to get the work scheduled. I appreciated the fact that Bruce wanted to my job when the crews would be in the area doing other work. My job was small and able to be completed it in two days. I was impressed by their honesty about my deck not needing to be sanded, which saved me at least $400. Good guys, I'll use them again! Thanks Bruce.

They were punctual and professional and did a nice job.

Went well. Did a thorough estimate, stayed in good communication, was flexible regarding what was needed as it became clear, followed-up. Had one problem with flooding in the garage but they took care of it with no questions asked and covered all costs.

Did a very nice job. Some of the railing wood needed to be replaced and I bought it and his people replaced old with new. Would use them again.

Scheduled with provider to estimate job. There were a few items that needed attention, but went with the high traffic deck due to budget. Bruce was very clear that his process would not be the cheapest, but it would be the best looking and protected. He was right. Results were far better than I could have expected. Provider arrived on time and scheduling was easy. Communication via email was excellent.

They arrived on time, took charge, and did a fantastic job. In all, done in 2 days, just as promised. Definitely recommend them.

Bruce was extremely accommodating with his time frame. He worked around my schedule. They showed up on time each day(a 3 day project); did an outstanding job, and cleaned up each time. They did a very thorough job, including power-washed and sealed the under-side of the deck to preserve it. It looks like a brand new deck. Bruce even came by afterwards to check-out the work.

I felt confident in this provider's ability to provide good service. He was professional in his approach and responded in a timely manner. The price was just higher than I could pay for the job. I did get the job completed recently for less.

After several delays to send someone out to look at the deck because of high demand, provider finally came and gave an estimate of $2000.00.The service was advertised for $199.00.

It turned out good that it was easy to schedule the work and they did the work very fast.

It went well. Provider was very responsive to my request. He offered me two options. One I thought did not match what I was looking for and the other was more than I wanted to spend. When I asked if I could apply the $199 to the estimate he told me that my deck did not qualify but that I could get a refund by contacting Angie's List. I do not see a need for Angie's list to contact the provider. If there were other providers who provide the service I would probably pursue additional estimates.

Bruce was fantastic. I bought a deal for exterior deck refinishing from him on Angie's List. He clearly has unique expertise in the area, provided excellent customer service, got the job done quickly and within budget. I would definitely recommend him to others.

They did a beautiful job restoring my deck. They took off most of the top deck and railings, sanded everything, and repaired and refinished the whole thing. They were very pleasant to work with, easy to have around and very businesslike and professional. It was done quickly and beautifully. I can't say enough good things about them. They powerwashed everything and preserved it at first. Once that was done, we were able to see what really needed repair. We decided what was needed was pretty extensive, amounting to about three quarters of the deck. It was done very well.

Did a very good and professional job

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. They did a decent job. It ended up being a lot more expensive than I thought it was going to be but I don't know if that was anyone's fault or if that is just the way it goes. They were on time, they were respectful of our stuff, and they got the job done in a reasonable period of time. I think I might have paid $1,000 more. It was a lot than I thought it would be.

They called to set up a time to look at the deck that they would be refinishing. I have dogs and asked that they come any day before noon so I could be here and wouldn't have to worry about the dogs getting out. (Workers in the past have been careless and let the dogs out.) They said they couldn't make it at that time, but that they would be very careful to not leave the gate open. They did fine with that, but gave me a bid that was almost twice as much as the original Angie deal. It was simply not a good time to have an extra expense thrown into my budget. I had to pass.

They did a very nice job. When one area wasn't perfect they came back promptly and redid it. Pleased with the service and value.

The employees were friendly and helpful. They was a delay in the work due to a change in the method for finishing the boards. This was handled quickly, with few problems.. The result was a beautifully finished deck that looks like new.

Actual cleaning and resealing went well but workers left some things undone and needed to call owner who was very prompt in seeing work was completed/

I didn't use him because the job was outside the scope of his services. However, he was very prompt, professional and courteous. I appreciated his honesty and detail.
