Wow 1 Day Painting

We had purchased a house in September. Our house is about 1500 sq ft. We had been painting walls. cabinets pretty much every surface. New (and expensive) laminate flooring with upgraded baseboards had been installed through the entire house two weeks prior. With the holidays upcoming we decided to have the ceilings professionally done. Adam came for an estimate in early November. After going through the house he went out to his truck. I could hear him talking to someone who said tell them it will be a day and a half due to size. When he came back in he gave me a quote of $3k to scrape the popcorn, texture and paint. He then looked at the ceiling again and said he hadn’t notice it had semi gloss so that may be more. He said he would talk with his guys and get back to us. I stressed that we wanted this done ASAP due to holidays. This was a Friday. The following Tuesday we still hadn’t heard anything so we contacted him. He confirmed it would be 3k and work would start the following week (2 weeks prior to thanksgiving). He assured me his crew would thoroughly tape and plastic everything to protect our new floors. The website stated they would leave our place “perfectly” clean. Day one I was impressed. When I left for work their tape job looked amazing. One of the crew told me the day and a half job would be two days. Adam had asked if he could leave the plastic up until the project was done and I said no problem. When I got home all the plastic was gone. One of the crew had headphones in and was on the phone constantly. Another crew member seemed incapable of speaking without dropping the F bomb every other word. Day two as they were once again taping I was talking to another crew member who told me it was going to take at least another day. He said he didn’t know why Adam had quoted they way he did and they were short staffed. So my 1 day paint job was now up to 3 days. I noticed when I got home there was a lot of plaster dust including in places they didn’t work like the walk in closet. Day 3 I had noticed there was a nick taken out of one of the new upgraded baseboards. I know stuff happens so I just asked them to be a bit careful with the ladders. Again with taping which took them a couple of hours each day. When we got home that night the job was “done”. The texture job on the ceiling was horrid. It looked like some places still had popcorn. There were drips like icicles. We found more damaged baseboards, a chunk out of a corner, plaster dust in cupboards, closets, even in the kitchen cupboards and all over our new appliances. They had left two couches in the middle of the room and when I moved them back there was a ton of plaster dust, pieces of tape and face masks. A chunk out of the new flooring on the living room. They had texture over the lightbulbs in the recessed lighting. All the air vents and the smoke detector. One lightbulb was missing and we found another in a cupboard with texture in it. Their tape had taken off the paint on the walls around the ceiling. The ceiling looked like they had just splattered it one and left it. The worse part was there was plaster dust in all the grooves of the new floor. White dust between the dark floor planks. Adam called for final payment and my husband told him he needed to come over. After checking it out Adam said he was shocked. They had even left early on the last day. He said he would have to subcontract someone to come fix it. Now it’s the week before thanksgiving. We had to keep calling to find out when someone was coming out. Finally the Monday before the holiday someone came out and redid all the ceilings. We had worked on cleaning up the plaster dust, cleaned the recessed lighting, replaced the lightbulb. Adam said he would get someone to clean the floors. All the nicks and chunks were not fixed. After the holiday someone came out to do the floors and said he couldn’t clean them properly since his equipment wouldn’t get into the cracks. Adam said he would have his guys come out. We finally said enough was enough. Therebeforehand was no way I was letting his guys work on our floors. In the end we did not pay the whole remaining bill. We had researched the company and they had great reviews. However we didn’t realized these were franchises. This one is severely lacking.
