Response from Shelter Roofing & Solar
This is a temporary situation. We at Shelter Roofing and Solar take our Clients and their Contracts very seriously and try our best to keep on schedule. Due to the recent rains we are overwhelmed with repair requests. We strive to give our customers prompt service and by overloading our work schedule we were unable to live up to our commitments. We look forward to accepting repair work very soon. Thank You, Shelter Roofing & Solar Scott Baumgard, Owner

A few days after the inspection and bid, Shelter came out when the roll-off was delivered and had it parked on wood slats to protect the driveway. They then started to remove existing roof material . Second day new material was delivered and the crew continued to remove old roof and replaced defective wood underlay. Third day the new roof was completed and inspected by the city. The crew started at 8 a.m. and worked to 5 p.m. They cleaned up outside every afternoon and made sure no debris was around.
Description of Work: Replaced existing asphalt roof, metal trim and up-graded venting as necessary.

The estimate was 4 days to complete and the job took 3 days. I even had wait for Directv to move the satellite dish. So that I didnt lose tv service, Shelter agreed to come back and finish the job after Directv was done. Very professional and always cleaned up (as best they could) all the old nails and debris. I would use this company again, but since my roof has 40 year warranty, I don't think I need too, but I would recommend them
Description of Work: Shelter Roofing was one of 4 estimates I got and I felt that their presentation was the best. The price I was quoted is the price I ended up paying for a brand new roof.

I got three bids for the job. There was a 50% difference between the high and low bids. This company's bid was just under the next higher bid. However, it was not the cost that made the difference. They could have been a bit higher and still received the job. What made the difference was and excellent proposal, no caveats and a promise to complete the job in four days. The proposal consisted of a little booklet which not only contained the price but copies of the license, BBB rating, and awards plus a sample of the underlayment they intended to use. It also listed all the work to be done in detail with no additional costs if damaged wood, etc. had to be replaced. The only thing they didn't do was finish the job in four days-- they did it in three which included repairing the sag which had not been in the original proposal. I cannot recommend Shelter Roofing highly enough.
Description of Work: Remove roof tiles and underlayment, install new underlayment and replace tiles. In addition they corrected a significant sag in the roof over the garage by removing the plywood, installing stringers to take out the sag and replacing the plywood with new where required.

Scott Baumgard, the owner of the company, came out to inspect our roof and give us an estimate on replacing it. We were very impressed with all the information he gave us. He walked the rooftop in the rain, taking photos of the condition of our existing shingles to show us so we could actually see what he saw.? He brought a complete folder to leave with us, which included information about his company, a highly detailed estimate, copies of his license and awards, a brochure on the specs of the Owens Corning shingles, and flyers on the attic vents he would install and the underlayment material. He also gave us a color chip booklet for choosing the shingles. We knew right away that he was the contractor we wanted to work with.? His consultation was thoroughly professional, highly informative, and down-to-earth. There was no salesmanship or high pressure tactics with him.? His wife emailed me a list of area homes where Shelter Rooofing had replaced owners' roofs so I could drive by and look at them.? Scott was very responsive to all our questions. The installation crew was courteous, friendly, and very respectful of our property. Scott installed the velux solar tube himself on the first day.? We had a slight issue with the placement of the tube, because of ducts in the attic, and then the vendor placed the wrong size tube in the box, so we ended up with a 14" tube instead of a 10." This ended up being a plus, since this tube gives more light and didn't cost us a penny more! Isidro, the crew foreman deserves special mention -- he is a great workman and wonderful personality. His son, who works alongside, is a true gentleman. We enjoyed this team -- they cleaned up after themselves so well, even using a cool rolling super- magnet tool to pick up all the nails on the ground around the house.? A bonus -- they blew all the debris off our flat sunroof, which is a difficult place to clean! The work was completed on time, and I highly recommend Shelter Roofing.
Description of Work: Removed our existing roof, replaced all damaged wood on roof deck, installed Owens Corning Duration Energy-efficient "cool" roofing over bituman underlayment, installed high profile ridge materials on all ridges, replaced all pipe flashings, installed 3 roof vents, and installed a velux solar tube for our hallway.

Scott arrived promptly to provide us an estimate. He left us samples of shingles so we can choose the color. He inspected our current roof and provided a detailed price for the job. Everything had to go. Per our city code, they had to install plywood bracing before the underlayment. So the cost of the job came to $10,000 for that additional work. The job was estimated to be done in 4 days but they completed it in three. The city I inspector came out twice during and after completion and all work was performed per city code. The workers were professional and neat. Nothing was left behind that we had to dispose of. We provided half the cost of the job the first day and the balance on the last day. We have already recommended Shelter Roofing to our neighbors who are about to re-roof as well.

Outstanding workmanship, organization and professionalism. I got three bids from Angie's list companies. Shelter roofing was by far the most reasonable and they listened to what I wanted done. They did not try to up sell me on new roof tile when my existing ones were in great shape. They also sequenced the work so that the painters could paint the face boards before the edge roof tile were attached.

Great! We knew someone was going to visit that day, and would have to enter through a door under the roof that was being replaced. Scott had his staff put the debris where it would not interfere with that entry. When they were done, they left everything clean and neat.

Shelter Roofing was great! Geoff knew my roof was in bad shape and rescheduled another job to take care of me. It took them two days (as they promised) and the next day after they finished it rained...bottom line, no leaks! Great crew too! Cleaned up thoroughly and completely and were very polite. Nice to know quality workmanship is still around.

They arrived on time, performed the job above and beyond the call of duty, and finished just as promised. The new roof gives the house a whole new look and we no longer have to worry about critters living in the tile. Each day they cleaned up the site to perfection and we could not be happier with the finished product.

The crew from Shelter Roofing started on time, were very clean and completed the job almost a whole day early. The job could not have gone more smoothly.
Description of Work: Scott and the team from Shelter Roofing completely stripped off the old roof, replaced damaged / rotten wood, and installed our new roof. Scott was on site everyday (which made us feel good) although I feel his crew would have done a great job on their own. Very professional. The price was more than fair and the materials were top quality. Not all the rooferes we interviewed were quite so quick to specify materials. Trash was removed promptly and everything looks great. Shelter Roofing overall did a good job. They kept it clean and everything. I had no problems with that. The roof looks good. It looks like they did a good job. They were professional. Shelter Roofing did a complete re-roof of a 1960's apt. building (flat roof). They were experienced, created a water downspout/drain that wasn't there, made sure everything would work well to keep my roof dry after rainfall. This is an exceptional roofing company that stands behind their word and work. I wouldn't use anyone else!! Already referred them to my daughter and son in law for their roofing job.
Description of Work: I am an apartment owner of a 16 unit 1960's building in the W. Hollywood area. I used Shelter Roofing as the roofing company for my personal home and knew that I would be using them and referring them to everyone I knew. Subsequent to my own home roofing job, I needed to re-roof the apartment we own. I took 3 bids on both my person home , as well as the apt. Shelter Roofing came in the middle of the 3 bids. What convinced me to go with them was the referrals they provided me with. I called at least 3 referrals where the homeowners were able to provide me with details of the quality of Shelter Roofing's work Shelter Roofing is an excellent roofing company. They were on the job site every day, starting early and cleaning up at day's end. If there was a problem caused by excessive banging, the forman or owner made sure everything was corrected in a timely manner. He was there to answer all questions and concerns from my tenants. In a couple of cases, lighting bulbs had to be replaced and drywall needed repair, but Shelter Roofing acknowledged responsibility and took immediate action to correct these issues. There was never a need for more than one phone call letting the owner know of the problem. This is a quality company and you'll receive a quality job! Don't just hire anyone to do a big job like this. Hire a professional who stands behind his word and his work-- Shelter Roofing. I highly recommend them. Anita H.

The owner, Scott Baumgard, came out on a Saturday morning, to meet my schedule, and give me an estimate. He walked the roof, pointed out the issues I had, and told me why those issues occurred (broken tiles, compromised underlayment, and clogged gutters). Based on the square footage, he was able to provide an estimate of $1900.00 which was very competitive. I asked how soon he could start, and he said he could start within a week, on Friday. On Wednesday, Scott called and asked if his crew could start a day early, on Thursday. He emphasized that he knew he said Friday, and they would be glad to stick to that, but another job was ending earlier than expected. Since this was not an issue for me, I agreed.Scott showed up promptly on the day the project began, at 8:30am, with supplies on his truck, which he unloaded himself. His crew arrived about 1/2 and hour later and promptly went to work. His crew was very nice, and did a great job. The job was finished the following day, and his crew cleaned up all traces of their work, and even cleaned up some yard debris (leaves) for us. We had provided some water on ice in a bucket, and they cleaned that up too! Scott arrived just as they were finishing, like clockwork, and did a final inspection. I paid him at this time, and he provided an invoice, showing paid in full, that evening via email.I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of punctuality of Scott and his entire crew, and would enthusiastically recommend his company to anyone looking to have roofing services performed.
Description of Work: Roofing tiles removed, unbroken tiles retained for re-install, underlayment removed, drainage gutters cleaned, underlayment replaced, tiles re-set (broken tiles replaced), cement at roof joints reinstalled, cleanup of debris.

We needed to re-roof to prepare for a solar installation after some roof damage was discovered by the solar company. By the way, if you decide to go solar it is imperative that your roof be in good condition as you don't want to remove the solar array a few years down the road to re-roof. It is the one unanticipated expense we ran into doing this project. Having said that, maintaining the roof's integrity is something that has to be done regardless. I must have gotten 10 bids until my head was spinning with roofing options (modified bitumen? Composite shingle? Combined tile with shingle?) I consider myself now a minor expert in roofing jargon. The range of bids and was astounding. Geoff from Shelter came out to do the bid. Unlike some other contractors, all the materials were included in the bid: replacing damaged plywood, additional tiles required, etc. The bid was reasonable, and in line with other contractors in the median range. What sold me on Shelter was the fact that they had worked with the solar installers on other jobs. So the roofers and solar installers had an established protocol of how to schedule and work around each other. I can't emphasize enough how important this is. We put composite shingle (Corning Duration) under the solar array with 2 layers of ASTM 40lb underlayment. They managed to maintain the aesthetics of the tile roof even with the composite shingle below the panels. It looks seamless. And despite my concern that the panels would stick out like a sore thumb, they do not. They also replaced the broken tiles on the areas of the roof that were not part of the solar array at no additional cost. The crew was efficient, clean, and personable. My only complaint was that the facia boards that were replaced (a reasonable additional add on) was only primed on one side. Having said that, once pointed out, the crew painted at least the part of the underside of the wood that is exposed. (We have termite issues and unpainted wood is an invitation for problems.)
Description of Work: Re-roofed the sections of our home to prepare for a solar installation - used composite shingle under the array and re-tiled the areas adjacent. Used Corning Duration shingles and ASTM 40lb underlayment under array, and re-papered tiled areas. Replaced 3 skylights that were installed incorrectly years ago (cause of our roof problem to begin with). Replaced damaged facia boards. Replaced broken tile on downslopes of roof.
