We had a list of electrical things that we wanted to have done - two ceiling fans, several new outside fixtures, a couple of which are motion-sensing; some 2 prong grounded outlets made into 3 prong; a loose outdoor electrical socket replaced; electric awning cord shortened so it wouldn't hang down and look ugly; power strip mounted under bar in kitchen/dining area - maybe some other stuff too! I first contacted another electrical contractor who had stellar Angie's List ratings. He came out and looked at everything, then sent me a written estimate - $2200! I was somewhat taken aback as I had figured MAYbe $1000 max. So I then contacted Searle Electric, mostly because we see their truck parked across from where my husband works! I spoke with the owner, Dan, on the phone, and he asked what all we wanted to have done? I recited my list to him and he said, "That should run between $400 and $500." REALLY? I said, "Do you want to come out and look?" and his response was, no, he had the info, and was confident that would cover the work. After a discussion that evening, my husband thought we should go ahead with Searle, so I called an scheduled a time for later in the week. I mentioned that they'd need to call first so that I could open the gates for access. George called me just as I asked. He arrived on time, took a look at the list, and promptly set about doing the work with professionalism and confidence. He was about mid-point of the work when he realized the ladder he had with him wouldn't be tall enough to reach one fixture, so he called and shortly James arrived with a taller ladder. He also set about working on the list. At the end of the day, MOST of the work was done, with a promise of return on Monday (this was late on Thursday and we were not gonna be available on Friday) - George again called, showed up on time, and had the necessary parts to finish up what he had started. James also came to finish up what he had been working on as well. One of the motion sensing lights had been left in a "dawn to dusk" mode, rather than coming on only when sensing movement, so I called George the next day and he came right out to reprogram the light (of course it was the up-high one so we couldn't just do it ourselves!) One of the fixtures we had asked to be installed was an old stained glass ceiling fan/light and it was missing a part. James took down the info and contacted the company to see if the part was available. We waited a week for a response, and when one was not forthcoming, we decided to just go ahead and buy a new fixture, which James then came out and installed. So all in all, there were several trips here to accomplish the tasks, by two men, both of whom were so nice to work with. Then I had occasion to speak a few times with Michaela in the office. She was so nice, followed up when she said she would, called to make sure the jobs were done to our satisfaction, and said she'd mail out a bill - when I got it - $400! I called her back to make SURE that they had everything on it, and she said to hold it and not pay til she had a chance to double-check with both George and James and with Dan, the owner - and the final answer - yes, $400! WOW. What a difference between that and the first estimate, and we could NOT be more pleased with the work, the workers, or the company! We already have a second list of things to do started up and you can rest assured that Searle Electric will get our business from now on.
