We hired them in the beginning of May 2012 and at that time stressed the importance of having the job completed before we moved into the new house. We were doing the build out because we were moving from a home nearly twice the size of the new house and needed the organization to fit everything. Moreover, our young son was scheduled to have surgery two weeks after we moved and we needed to have the house in order for him to have a clean and restful recovery. They promised repeatedly that the work would be done and they took a $5000 deposit to assure that the materials were all be ready to go when they were given access to the house on July 1 and they got another $3000 the day they started. They agreed in writing to be finished by July 13 and assured there would be no problem. On July 11 I spoke with Thelma to get her assurance that they would be done on July 13 even though it looked like a lot was still left to do. I explained that the movers were coming on July 19 and she assured me that it would be done. At noon on July 13 Thelma and Rick informed me that they had no drawers or moldings whatsoever ready for our closets and they couldn't give me a good estimate as to when they would be ready. When I complained Rick pointed his finger in my face and told me to "Deal with it!" At this point we were committed to the movers that were already scheduled. They moved us and we were left with a sea of boxes with no place to put away our things. You couldn't even walk in our garage. Then the excuses started to flow from Thelma -- every family issue you could think of -- death, ER visits, car trouble and one day it was even too hot to drive to our home. They repeatedly said they would show up to finish, we would wait around all day and Thelma would text me several times in the day to say they were coming, and then 4 pm woudl roll around and they would not show. Finally, two days before my son's surgery I literally begged them to finish, after I explained that I would have to rehire movers to put our things back in storage because my son could not recover in a room full of boxes, they finally brought a few drawers. We were still left with a mess and did the best we could. Finally on Aug 7 they completed the job. We still wonder about the quality and wonder if it will hold up. The first time my husband opened a drawer in the garage the entire front of the drawer came off in his hands. I had them repair one wall in my closet three times because it bowed out and the rod would fall out with all my clothes on it. Moving is stressful enough and this situation was really unpleasant. Obviously they didn't use our deposit money to buy materials and they tried to play on our emotions using family issues to make excuses -- every time I mentioned my son's surgery, Thelma trumped my concern with some kind of family issue of her own. She claimed her mother died, but another friend of ours said she used that excuse several months before when she was late on their job. I'm conviinced they simply don't manage their money and had to wait to buy the materials. We spent a lot of money to try to make a stressful situation easier on us and ended up with ten times more stress because of American Organizers.
