Dealing with Brandon’s Landscapes was a huge disappointment. Last August, Brandon’s Landscapes contracted with me to perform extensive landscaping on my property. During his initial visit, the owner assured me that their lead-time would be 4 or 5 weeks between contract-signing and the start of work, with the understanding that that period might be a bit longer given unexpected circumstances with preceding jobs. But after that the owner would never speak to me again, and weeks turned into months – still with no start date scheduled as the Holidays appeared on the horizon. Most frustrating was the nothing-burgers I was fed by the office manager in reply to my requests for a start date; an irksome talk-to-the-hand attitude I’d never experienced with any other contractor, well-reputed or not. And while I waited in good faith for them to act, it became more and more apparent that Brandon’s Landscapes was not interested in making me a happy customer, if they indeed had any intention of fulfilling our contract at all, because by then it sure didn’t look like it. In fact, the only effective action they took during our business relationship was the prompt refund of my deposit upon request. That didn't give me back the time, though.
Description of Work: Contracted with this company and paid a deposit to have extensive landscaping done on my property; services which were never performed.

Overall, each project has gone well. And if problems have come up, Brandon and his team have dealt with them effectively and efficiently.
Description of Work: I've used Brandons Landscaping on several jobs over the past few years. Brandon is exceptionally professional, responsive, easy to work with , accommodating, flexible, and overall a joy to work with. His prices are competitive and fair. I hope to work with them for many years to come.

Many mistakes in pruning the shrubs, not checking sprinklers per agreement, leaving security gate to backyard unlocked. Overspraying roses with poison and killing some of them. They didn't replace the dead roses as promised. Lack of attention to detail. When items were brought to the attention of the supervisor, we were just given arrogant, I know it all responses. Their prices were very high compared to the lack of quality of work. They finally emailed me and quit instead of trying to improve their work. I would not reccomend.

We were having a large event in our backyard and requested Brandon's Landscapes to come out and give us an estimate for a cleanout/refresher. A very accommodating gentleman by the name of Tobias came to our home and thoroughly discussed many options for upgrading the yard. My wife and I chose to move forward with Brandon's Landscaping even though we felt they were a bit pricey. We are so glad we did because you get what you pay for. The crew was very professional, punctual and polite and used quality materials. Our yard was beautiful and we enjoyed the many compliments we received. Thank you Tobias, Brandon and crew for helping us "look good"!

I would never hire a company that caused damage to the neighbors property and disrespected the homeowners. Brandon's is not only sloppy they are arrogant and likely cut corners.
Description of Work: The provider worked for my neighbor. Provider parked illegally and caused me $1,000.00 worth of damage to my car as I tried to navigate past their truck into my garage. I also believe the retaining walls they built were not up to code. They are disrespectful of the neighbors need to park their cars, they use the street to store their work materials and don't clean up well.

Here is my first email to neighbor and Brandon's Landscapes. It details what happened, (excuse typos). To info@brandonslandscapes.com CC [member contact information removed] Jul 23 at 5:04 PM Good evening, Your crew has been working on the [name removed] property for the last several days; we are the neighbors to the East. As I got home from work this afternoon, I saw your worker blowing all of the loose dust, sand, dry cement, etc., from [name removed] driveway towards our house. The dust cloud created was visible from the end of the block on Porter and was higher than my roof. What dust was not trapped in my windows and carport blew down the street. This is very irresponsible behavior. When asked by my husbands if he was blowing the dust this way, the worker said, "Just a little bit." SERIOUSLY!? With my allergies and bronchitis, I don't think creating clouds of dust is a little bit, it is thoughtless, irresponsible and unprofessional behavior and a liability for your company. [member name removed] And after clarifying to Brandon's Landscape that we would like them to NOT use their blower, this is their response in the most recent email from today. I read it as arrogant, unaccommodating and hostile. Do you have any suggestions or insights as to how to deal with BL? Brandon's Landscapes To [member name removed] CC [name removed] [member name removed]Today at 4:48 PM [member name removed], Let me be clear, we do not spread or diffuse dust to the neighborhood and you are not understanding that this is how all job sites are cleaned throughout the construction industry. I am sorry you feel we are being rude or disrespectful. All I am saying is we do not have time to sweep. We work jobsites all over the county of Los Angeles and all over your street and no one else expects us to sweep, so I am baffled by your response. [name removed] is trying to be a good neighbor and asked us to be more diligent in our clean-up efforts and we will gladly be as careful as possible. Please try to understand we are not trying to irate you and will gladly sweep if you would like to pay for it but we are not charging [name removed] for this service. Description of Work: This company is doing a job for my next door neighbor. The job involves concrete and dirt. My complaint about this company is their practice of cleaning up their client's site by blowing everything away--to my house. I emailed the neighbor and this company, and they consider it acceptable business practices to clean up their client's site at the cost of the neighbors.

Recently, I contracted Brandon's Landscapes for a project and was extremely dissatisfied. I was putting my house on the market and had 3 months and $2,500 to figure out how to improve the curb appeal. My front lawn had died with the drought, so I was looking to either revive the lawn or install plants in areas where the grass had died. My primary objective was to do something within my budget that would improve the look of the lawn. Brandon came out and was confident that he could install drought resistant plants that could show well for my house. We spoke for 5 minutes and then he followed up with the proposal later that afternoon. The quote was for $2,665 ($165 more than my maximum budget). I reluctantly agreed because he assured me that it would help the appearance of my lawn. Scheduling the work then became a challenge. I no longer lived at the property and needed to coordinate schedules to arrange to be there. Theirproposed install was for January. I reminded them that this was to prepare for my house on market in mid-Febraury and I had concerns about the lawn looking bare if we waited until mid-January to plant. I never could nail them down on a specific date. I grew frustrated with the lack of response and decided I would seek out another option. Then, on New Years Eve, my neighbor sent me pictures of my lawn completely dug up and very small plants installed. I was not happy, I went from having an established lawn to something that looked very bare - and poor curb appeal. I also saw that several plants were dying. I discussed this with Brandon and he did not care. My satisfaction was not a factor. He just wanted to get paid. I was furious that I spent this money on something that did not meet my needs. To add insult to injury, they charged me $300 more than the quoted price for "irrigation." I never approved this additional cost. They also took advantage of my situation and knew that I was in the process of selling my home, so they threatened to put a lien on my property if I did not pay the invoice in full. I had no recourse and in the interest of time, I gave them their money with the vow that I would do my best to warn other potential clients about doing business with them. They do not hold customer satisfaction, integrity or quality of work as guiding values for how they do business.
Description of Work: I contracted Brandon's Landscapes in late November/early December to help me improve the curb appeal for my home that I was putting on the market in mid-February. However, the end result did not meet my needs and was a long term approach where smaller plants were installed with the intention that they would look better in a year. About 30% of the plants were dying as well. Not only did they not address my dissatisfaction, but they threatened to place a lien on my property if payment was not made in full.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are an award winning landscaping company seasoned in the design and installation of drought tolerant landscapes. It is with regret that we hear of your unsatisfactory experience with us. We truly value each and every one of our clients, and we do all we can to accommodate their needs withing the budget that they allocate. We apologize if your decision to request this form of design was not to your liking; however, we always offer a plant palette which we only proceed with if approved. In addition, we made efforts to inform you of the improper care of your plant material, which we found over-watered and in poor condition immediately after you had notified us of this. As a comprehensive landscape company we offer maintenance service to ensure your perishable investment is properly cared for and nurtured. Unfortunately, you did not elect to hire us as your maintenance service provider. Therefore, we were unable to monitor these poor growing conditions after the project was finalized.

We have a very large back yard that needing clearing, reimagining, and planting. We called to make an appointment for an estimate. A very nice woman answered the phone and made the appointment. Brandon showed up as scheduled. He was very young - looked like he was right out of high school. My impression was that this was his first business venture and the woman was probably his mother. But, that is neither here, nor there. As a very young and, perhaps, novice businessman, Brandon was very professional. He was polite, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and seemed very willing to have our business. He said he would get back to us in a few days with the bid. Two weeks later, no bid. I called and left a message. No response. A week after that, I emailed. No response. Needless to say, we were very surprised that he did not get back to us. What he didn't realized was that the job was his to lose. If his bid was anywhere near other bids, even though higher, we would have gone with him. He impressed us as a person we could trust to do a good job. Well, he blew it. Contractors need to know that when they do not get back to prospective customers, it is interpreted as meaning that we don't matter, that other customers with perhaps bigger jobs are more important. So, we cannot comment on the quality of Brandon's Landscaping work, but we can say that he was not very professional when it came to communicating with us. That may call into question other areas. We're happy with whom we eventually worked.

Brandon's gardening service is full-service. Most important, they actually listen to our requests and keep the garden trimmed as we want it. There's is not a and quot;one-size-fits-alland quot; approach. They take care of supervising the irrigation systems, making seasonal adjustments, keep track of major fertilization needs, dead-head flowers once they're past their prime, and thin shrubbery rather than shape and shave it. They are always punctual, friendly, courteous and cooperative. They truly strive to give us what we want. We have frequently recommended them to our friends.
Description of Work: Brandon's Landscapes worked on our upper and front yards, adding raised vegetable and flower beds with drip irrigation and a pergola-shaded patio. In the front yard, they clean up existing beds, supplemented the soil, created new water-wise plantings and revamping the existing irrigation system. We were so please with the results that we have hired them to take care of our investment. They provide a complete service, including fertilization and customized trimming. We are very satisfied.

Our HOA had a leaking sprinkler control valve that was flooding an area in front of the building. We found Brandon on Angie's list and he came out and did the repair within 24 hours. Awesome! I'm so pleased with the job. It is beautiful and very functional. The job was started quickly and finished quickly. I couldn't ask for more. Brandon's quote was originally several hundred dollars higher than a competing quote that we got from a company that specializes in doing outdoor grills. However, since we already used Brandon once for removing a set of palms and rebuilding a wall (see my review on that) and since we also use them for weekly gardening service (see my review on that), I wanted to give him our business and asked if he would cut his price. Without hesitation he matched the existing quote. One important difference with the other quote is that Brandon knew from the prior job he did for me that the brick used on our landscaping is no longer available. He instead bought larger bricks that match the look of our existing brick, and then cut them down to the same size as the existing brick. My guess is that very few people would think to do that or be willing to do it. Since we didn't want to redo all of the tile (partly because we like the look of the existing tile and partly because complete re-tiling was going to cost several hundred dollars more), and the new tile from the same company didn't have quite as much variation as the existing tile, he harvested some of the tile from the existing counter and mixed it in with the new tiles. It is not possible to even tell that the tiling job is done with two different lots purchased more than 10 years apart, and this saved us ~$450. or so in tile. I think it is very likely the other company would have charged us extra for that. What I like about Brandon is that I can use the same company to do diverse outdoor jobs. Their pricing is competitive, the quality of their work is very high, and Brandon is both a remarkable guy (ask him how old he was when he started this business) and a pleasure to deal with. Super-competent, knowledgeable, clever, and professional.
Description of Work: Rebuilt outdoor barbecue station. The previous owners put in a counter along the backside of the house. I use the grill a lot, and the back of the house was getting sooty. We had Brandon extend a peninsula outwards from the existing counter to form an "L". The grill, and stove top and refrigerator were moved to the new section, which is ~8 feet long. A new set of doors was put in below the grill and a new, larger sink was put in on the original counter. Because the grill was moved, the gas line and an electrical line to support the rotisserie motor had to be moved. The extension went into the lawn, which required extending the concrete deck ( matching the existing deck), moving irrigation lines that were along the prior edge, moving a sprinkler head that was previously in the middle of the nearby lawn, and moving a lawn border to meet the edge of the new peninsula.

This was a pretty complicated job. We had a line of large palms planted in a very narrow bed raised ~2 feet above our pool deck, ~7 feet from the pool. The palm trunks had grown to nearly the width of the bed and were cracking the wall of the bed and pushing back a 6 foot high retaining wall on the back side of the bed along our property line. Adding to the problem is that the bed served as a conduit for electrical and high pressure water lines serving the sprinkler valves, and low voltage lightling lines. Brandon's crew did a terrific job on this. All told it took about a week or so to get the job done. The started promptly and finished pretty quickly. Plus their quote was considerably cheaper than the other quote that we got for the same job. I was very satisfied. This led us to use them for a different job described in another post.
Description of Work: Remove 6 large palm trees (20-35 feet high), remove dirt and roots from bed that the palms were in, rebulld the wall of the bed where it had been damaged by the palm roots, Re-hook up low-voltage irrigation electrical lines, low-voltage lighting electrical lines, high-pressure water lines, and drip lines that ran through the bed and were damaged (or deliberately capped off) when the palms and dirt were removed. Re-fill the bed with fresh dirt and plant shrubs.

So far they have been pretty good. Not perfect, but better than what I have had in the past.I used to have a "mow, blow, and go" service. Brandon's is a considerable up-grade, because they take a more comprehensive approach. A major advantage is that you can communicate with them. They respond to phone calls and email promptly. They also typically have a foreman in the crew who speaks english, whiich usually wasn't the case with the prior services I've had - it was very difficult to communicate. Brandon's has separate crews for dealing with the weekly gardening and irrigation issues. If there is an irrigation problem they promptly send someone out to evaluate it and repair it. When things are working well, I don't have to pay any attention - everything gets done automatically. My one complaint is that in the first few months there have been a couple of hiccups with timer management and a problem with a blown drip line (which is why I gave them a 'B' overall). Granted, we have a complicated timer with 23 different zones to cover a 28,000 ft2 yard. But on two occasions, a worker set a zone to water manually for 10:00, which on my timer means 10 hours and 0 minutes, not 10 minutes and 0 seconds. In both cases I caught the problem before any serious damage was done, and I've been assured it won't happen again. I also had a drip line become detached at one of the joints and it wasn't noticed until I began to see die-back on rose bushes in that particular zone. However, in their defense this was when it was in the hottest part of summer and it could have happened with pretty much any gardening service. On the positive side, we had a couple of persistent dry zones on our lawn that didn't seem to improve no matter what I tried to do with changing watering times or spray heads. Brandon immedately diagnosed that the sprinkler heads weren't close enough to provide full coverage, and he put in new heads extending the lines from existing heads, and the problem went away. All in all I give them an A because despite the few hiccups Brandon is very knowledgeable and extremely capable, it is easy to communicate with them, and when a problem is raised they address it immediately. Also, they have broader expertise than most "mow, blow, and go" outfits and can provide more comprehensive care. I've been using the service for about 4 months. I'll revisit this review after 1 year.
Description of Work: Brandon's does weekly yard work on my property. This includes cutting grass, edging, trimming, weeding, applying fungicides or insecticides as needed, fertilizing, monitoring the irrigation system, and making occasional minor repairs to the irrigation system.

I called Brandons Landscapes for a quote for my hillside stabilization project. He and his associate were very polite and courteous. The quote was reasonable and delivered on time. I ended up getting a second quote which was higher. I struggled with the decision because Brandon was so professional and the other landscaper was not as professional. On Brandon's quote it indicated that I would need to pay a plumber separately so I inquired with the office person about the cost. She didn't know and said the person they use is very busy so I should probably get my own person. I went with the other landscaper and I deeply regret it. Next time I will call Brandon.

Description of Work: Brandon came to our house, we spoke about what I wanted. He was very prompt in sending me the estimate, which seemed high. He included some hardscape in the estimate, which Brandon does often, according to the photographs on his website. This guy is amazing. He is reasonable. His workers are punctual. The man who ruins it is very polite and professional. He can do anything. His ideas and designs are very unique. It is almost like something you would see in a magazine. Everyone else wanted 3 times the amount he charged us. He is really stellar.
Description of Work: He installed a living wall, a foundation and some tile work.
