A L Affordable Contractor

Lenoard provided the unit cost and installation quote and there were no last minute charges. Leonard even made sure we had freon in the old one to provide comfort until the job was complete. We just love Leonard and so happy we chose him to do the job. We had other estiments and all but they insisted we needed a new furnace too. Our furnace is a 4 ton and the original air conditioner was a 2 ton. We just needed an air conditioner to match the furnace capacity. Thank you Leonard. We had a problem with our air conditioning unit in that it would continuously turn on and off and was not cooling the house. A.L. Affordable claimed it was a valve problem and filled it with 11.5 lbs of freon. He then made an appointment with us for the next day to finish the job. The appointment was set for 4pm. He called me at about 3:45pm and claimed that he forgot about a child's doctor appointment. His story then changed that he had to go to a pizza restaurant to celebrate a birthday. After he flaked on his appointment, we realized our A/C was having the same problem it had in the beginning - hot air. We called him back and asked how a system could lose almost 12lbs. of freon in one day. He said there was probably a leak so we asked why he didn't check for leaks before dumping that much freon into the system to begin with. He told us that we likely needed a new unit (ours is only 3 years old). To top it off he charged us $40/lb which is double the going rate for Puron and proceeded to blame us for the problem with the A/C as the reason he didn't initially check for leaks. He finally showed up the next day (2 days after he said he would finish) and attempted to enter my backyard when I was not home. Nothing he was doing or saying was making any sense, so we called another person to come out and take a look at his work. When the new person showed up and actually opened the unit (something A.L. Affordable did not do), there was only .25psi of Puron in the tank! The new contractor basically pointed out that given the size of the leak there was no possible way 11.5 lbs of Puron were put into the unit. The new contractor soldered the leak and now it finally functions properly no thanks to A.L. Affordable. We paid almost $480 for NOTHING. It all had to be done again, and because of A.L. Affordable's incompetence, it cost us another $450 to make it right.

This was one of the hottest weeks of the year in the California Central Valley (Newman). The air conditioner had shut down on a Saturday and refused to start again. Since I have respiratory problems I needed a rapid response and quality work. We called several companies, but they couldn't come until Monday. Called A.L.Affordable and the owner promised to come out Sunday morning before 7:30 (yes at time and a half) to make the repairs. He did an excellent job, replaced a large electrical condenser and even cleaned the unit thoroughly with a hose and brush. We were up and running before 9 AM. Great work!
