They've done quite a bit of work for us and did a very good job. The work was spread out over several different segments. I found them very professional. He was good about letting me know if he was not going to make it here on a certain day and tried to fit it into my schedule.
Description of Work: I used A Home Center to paint, replace wood trim, put in flooring, put in a patio and tiled over it, remodeled bathrooms and put tile in the kitchen.

He did a nice job. He was willing to scavenge in the attic to find a wall board that he could use to repair the drywall in the bathroom.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. Kerry was the person that came out. He did an excellent job. He was supposed to contact me to do some other work and he hasn't gotten back to me but I would use him again for sure. He did the work very well and very neatly. He cleaned up very well. The work was done very professionally and very excellent. It was a lot of work.
Description of Work: I used A Home Center because I had a leaking double pane window. He had to basically cut out the stucco on the outside and the sheetrock on the inside. Then they had to re-stucco on the outside and re-sheetrock and texture on the inside. He also did some plumbing jobs that same day. He fixed an upstairs faucet that was leaking.

Kerrey arrived early and stayed until after 5. Really got a lot accomplished. Very professional. He knows what he is doing. Nice pleasant gentleman as well. Very pleased with his work and what he accomplished in one day. Will definitely work with again.
Description of Work: An entire days worth of projects I was unable to do. New hot water heater installed several weeks ago when old one blew. There was lots water damage to sheetrock in garage. Kerry replaced all damaged sheetrock and moldings He then repaired plumbing faucets in bathroom. Worked on repairing electrical light fixture problem in another bathroom. Replaced front walkway broken slate tiles. Front entry door has not been shutting properly. He removed door and repaired. Works perfect now. Replaced interior door handle from garage to home. Others attempted in past could not correct. He did. Several other honey dos I am no longer able to do on own.

He came over to look at the job...he estimated it would take 5 days. He said he would come on 9/20. He did not show up. Then he said he would come on Friday, 9/27. He came. He installed a new window and got started on the floor. He ripped out the tiles. The day was over so said he would come back on Thursday or Friday of the following week. I was disappointed that he could not come back on Monday, but I cleared my schedule for Thursday. He did not show up. He said he could only come on Friday and that he could not guarantee that he would be available the following week to finish the job. I told him not to come. I needed a contractor who could start and finish the job in a timely manner. I would not hire him again. He knew it was a five day job, he should have scheduled five days.

Kerry arrived promptly and had brought all the tools needed for the misc. tasks I had previously emailed him about. When we went materials shopping, he made sure we had a complete list of everything we needed for the tasks for the day, so the shopping went very efficiently, I liked that he gave some explanation on why he selected certain types of materials. Kerry seamless handled the variety of tasks I had asked for. At the end of the day, Kerry left all work areas in good condition. Kerry is great guy for remodeling jobs because his experience for all the various types of work needed, as well as very willing to offer instruction if you want to do some of the remodeling work or prep work yourself. I am on a limited budget, and also really appreciated that he was very conscientious letting me know how to get good value for the materials I needed
Description of Work: - drew blueprint needed for HOA sliding door and window installation request - helped me go over labor and material list for the laminate flooring installation (by another company) to eliminate some unneeded materials and check to why material quantities seemed excessive. - shopping consultant for remodeling materials - selected materials for recessed lighting and concrete crack repair; showed and explained to me the base molding options that would look nice with the flooring I have selected; provided helpful information on patio sliding door and sliding closet door replacement for future purchase. - Installed recessed lighting housing for 2 rooms and 2 hallways. - Fixed poorly installed GFCI in bathroom. - Installed a Decora light switch in kitchen (I wanted to verify how it looked before converting all switches). - Instructed me on misc remodeling prep tasks (including correct tools to use) for carpet removal, painting prep on old bubbling paint and removing caulking properly - move stairway railing to patio in preparation for carpet installation on stairs - examined my ancient shower plumbing and gave me recommendations on what to look for when selecting new plumbing stems when I am shopping for replacement fixtures. - discussed laundry area options for shelving units

- Overall I was extremely pleased with the quality of work and Kerry's level of professionalism. He showed up on time for the initial work walk-thru and the work day. He was quite helpful, even during the initial walk through. I wanted a variety of contractor tasks done to prepare for my remodeling, and he brought all the equipment needed to do the tasks. When I was going over my remodeling plans, he really paid attention and offered many useful recommendations for me to get a bigger bang for my buck. Also for some of my plans, he offered nice design suggestions. For example, in my galley kitchen, instead of my idea of 4 recessed lights in a rectangle pattern, he suggested 3 lined up. I agreed, and when he cut the holes in the ceiling for the lighting with spacing he recommended, I could see this going to look fantastic with the galley kitchen configuration. - Kerry has a great work ethic, and I was surprised how much he got done. He also did not take unnecessary shortcuts, and his work really shows this. For example, for the two new kitchen outlets installation, he asked if he could remove the old counter top/back splash below where the new outlets were to be located, so that the wall integrity would stay whole as the wall was in good shape. End result - the wall area above the back splash edge where the new sockets were installed was indeed left in perfect shape when he was done. - I would especially recommend him for remodeling work - his breadth of experience will save you time and money on your remodeling project, more so if this is your first remodeling project. Kerry has a very pleasant and helpful personality. He was very patient at answering my many remodeling questions (this is my first remodeling project), and made sure I understood the why of what things needed to be done in a certain way.
Description of Work: This was for the Angie big deal 8 hour handy man service. Kerry provided the following work: - Removed existing 1/2 bath vanity and counter top (prior owner used a lot of nails for the old installation). - Moved existing 1/2 bath toilet to patio to prepare for new vinyl tile installation (which I plan to do later). - Removed old vinyl tiles from 1/2 bath and connected laundry area (including disconnecting and moving existing washer and dryer). - Removed existing storage cabinets above the washer and dryer. - Replaced 2 kitchen outlets with GFCI ones. - Check wiring for a kitchen socket that I was not sure if it was up to code (it was). - Verified kitchen ceiling structure suitability for changing from single incandescent light to 3 recessed light (for a galley type kitchen) and did ceiling cutouts for locations. Check wiring for a kitchen socket that I was not sure if it was up to code (it was). - Installed 2 additional kitchen outlets. - capped the electrical wiring to a shed that had removed. - Cleaned up work areas when he was done. - Did a great job of answering the several remodeling questions I had, as well as gave a number of suggestions for minor changes (as in no or little extra cost) that would make the end result look much nicer.

Kerry arrived on time. I described what I wanted to do which was help in the remodel of a fixer upper. I asked Kerry to show me how to do numerous remodel activities such as demo rooms, fix plumbing, install new electrical devices, repair drywall and I also wanted to pick his brain on the complete bathroom remodel. Kerry was eager to teach and extremely patient. Kerry worked his a** off for the "deal." It is the best bargain on Angie's list and I would highly recommend him although I intend to keep him busy over the next few months. I hired him to come back the next day and was equally pleased with his work. He's also a good guy and very friendly.

While the contractor was late, he did call. My shower valve only put out hot water. In order to fix it, the entire system had to be replaced. It took a long time, but he was able to do the job without destroying the whole shower wall system. In other words, he took apart and soldered pipes in a 6" circular area. That was great. Shower works fine now. He is to come back and install electrical boxes in ceilings of two bedrooms along with fans.

The job took almost two full days to complete, a little longer than expected. In part, it was due to the unexpected rough opening enlargement that needed to take place. Kerry and his associates took care of it in a professional manner. By the end of the first day, the new door was already in place, with a new lock installed. The next day (Sunday, I really appreciated Kerry spending most of his weekend to complete the job), was devoted to installing casing, external trim, sealing and painting. I had to pitch in on the door delivery from the local hardware store and on the lock installation, but I am happy with the overall result. The door looks professionally installed and has a nice, solid feel to it when opened or closed. Kerry had lots of previous experience with similar projects, and it shows.

I really wish I didn't have to write this review. Kerry is a really nice guy, helpful, and motivated; all the things you want in a contractor. The unfortunate part for me though was that he just didn't seem up to the job. I used his services after buying one of the Big Deals for a low price on 8 hours of access to a general handyman. I needed a broken tub swapped out so I could get the shower surround tiled. I also asked if he could remove my existing laundry center and install the new one I had delivered. He said he could do the job but it would cost a little extra to account for the helper he would need for the time. It seemed reasonable so I agreed. He also said he would need to rent an appliance dolly to move the laundry thing. Fine, all systems go. He arrived about 10 minutes early and got to work. He forgot a few tools so he borrowed mine. No big deal. The tub project went ok though he did cause a little bet of damage to a cabinet and some walls in the hallway. I fixed them my self. The real problem happened when he needed to swap out the laundry thing. He didn't get the appliance dolly and he and his helper tried to carry it out. While doing so they lost control of it and it slid down the stairs, gouging the hardwood floor when it hit the bottom. Then his plan was to simply slide the thing down the 17 concrete stairs outside. At that point I told him i planned on reselling it and to leave it where it was. At that point the job was done enough so we made plans for him to come back and fix the floor at a later date and we called it a day. I finished the laundry job with my brother in law and sprained my back and knee in the process. He showed up an hour late on the floor fixing day and had forgotten a shop vac again so he used mine. I gave him the floor planks he needed and asked him to just replace the planks in the area. I was working at home that day so I didn't hover or keep track of his work though I wish he had. He didn't replace all the planks, opted to fill and sand some of them which was completely obviously visible (why not just replace it, you had the plank?). We also found out a couple days later that the planks had not been secured to the floor since they are now bowed up and flex when you step on them. At this point I'm just done so I'm hiring a flooring company to come do the job right. On a positive note, he did fix a squeak in the entrance way by tacking some extra floorboard under the door frame so I do appreciate that. Like I said, he's a really nice guy and I hate writing this review but he just didn't seem up to this one.
Description of Work: I needed the following projects done for a partial bathroom remodel: Remove existing toilet Demo shower surround toilet Remove old tub and shower doors Install new tub Remove old laundry center stack Install new laundry center stack As a result of an accident during the laundry center removal, the wood floor in my living room also had to be repaired, planks replaced.

I estimated the job duration incorrectly because I did not know what was behind the light fixture. Kerry is a very patient and wonderful person to work with; he is a gentle soul and very flexible. He also needs flexibility and understanding because he is very thoughtful and methodical, and had many other jobs going at the same time. He is very knowledgeable and will make sure that the job is done appropriately. Each time we ran out of material, he would pick them up or I would pick them up and he never complained about it or anything else. I met him each day during lunch to see how things were going. If he needs additional help, he will bring them. If you are a little knowledgeable about construction and methods that will help because Kerry has many ideas and he will do whatever you want him to do. We have a few more projects that need attention in June or July and Kerry is the one who will be doing them. I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: We had a list of tasks that were pending for the last year or so. They included removing the kitchen's main light fixture and installing LED cans and two-way switches, plastering the kitchen ceiling and painting, plastering and painting cracks in the ceiling nook, removing unused outlets, patching, plastering, and painting, filling cracks in front patio, and replacing the screen on the screen door and painting it. The work was primarily for labor, we bought/paid for the materials.

We were pleased with the quality of the work. We can only vouch for the above three items, but the contractor has been doing work in northern California for many years, and seems very experienced. He was prompt and polite, and very conscientious.I think we got our money's worth, as the drywall and carpentry exterior work required skilled labor. In fact, the contractor was not able to complete the job in one day, and returned the next day to finish. This added a few more hours, which he included in the $295 we had prepaid. I had a couple of smaller jobs (caulking and varnishing a couple of floor boards) that we didn't have time for. I have no complaints, and would use this company again for handyman-type work without hesitation. One tip that I wish I had known in advance, is to have the contractor see the job beforehand, itemize the materials needed in advance, and purchase everything BEFORE coming to do the work. This would have saved us time, because several trips were made the day of.
Description of Work: The contractor performed for us the following services: Repaired and painted two holes in ceiling (made to access a hive in the roof) Constructed a wooden cover for the exterior pipe on the side of our house. Replaced a flushing unit in a toilet, for a better quality, quieter one.

Kerry rebuilt a 5-1/2 foot brick and glass monument that was completely destroyed by a vehicle. He matched the monument on the other side of the driveway perfectly so we now have two beautiful monuments at the bottom of our driveway again! As a "bonus", he also installed an additional electrical outlet inside the column by the lighting mechanism so that I can plug in my electric gardening tools without using a 150 foot extension cord from the garage. Excellent craftsmanship, very nice and respectful, and definitely someone I would call again.

A Home Center was called in July 2011 to arrange for a time to come out. They were going to be very busy for a few wks, which was okay. I explained what needed to be done with some Trex replacements on the deck. The week Kerry (sp?) was to come out he had to cancel because of a Dr appt. He had surgery on a broken ankle that was healing from a yr ago. No problem since my husband went through similar things 2 yrs ago. So it was arranged to come out a week later, Aug 2nd, which he did. He was very mannerly and went to work at once. He gave me a quote on the job and even though it took 2 days because of unforseen things, the price remained the same. Everything was cleaned up and we are very pleased with the work and attitude of Kerry. The dogs even liked him! I had trepedations about getting someone who had experience, an honest business sense and scrouples but am really happy with the experience and will use them in the future. My husband thought about it all and agreed that Kerry did an excellent job and has no problem with using them again for other things.
Description of Work: Replacement of Trex decking boards that had failed. Trex boards were left from before that were used to do the job. Some of the failed boards were 2-3 " under the pizza oven edge so were harder to deal with.

I wanted to add a living space and additional bathroom to my historic Spanish craftsman home. I wanted to preserve the intergity and the look of my old home which required a builder who was knowledgable about old homes. I needed help with everything: design, plans, layout, cost estimates, and construction. A Home Center performed flawlessly from site preparation to finish work and saved me money! I've increased the value of my home by several thousands of dollars! I've referred A Home Builders to several of my friends and colleagues. I would recommend A Home Builders without reservation to anyone who needs professional, specialized, on time and within budget construction performed.

We lived in San Jose so the job in Carmel had to be done pretty much unsupervised. Kerry was very trustworthy and got each part of the project done on time. I appreciated mostly the fact that there was nothing he could not do, whether it was electrical, plumbing, roofing, gutters, window replacement, painting, etc. He is experienced and pleasant to work with. He also does not overcharge. If you are looking for someone to get the job done without working on other jobs at the same time, and you want someone who is trustworthy, competent and has the ability to do all aspects of construction at a fair price, then you will not be disappointed with Kerry Rice.
Description of Work: 90 year old house in Carmel-By-The-Sea on Crespi. Metal single pane windows replaced with solid wood custom windows in a house with some crooked walls due to its age so it was a real challenge to have the windows open and shut easily!! Beautifully done! Perfect. Had skylight put in kitchen - perfect. Had motion lighting put in laundry room. We then had Kerry replace the roof (which had had about 3 layers on it) with a heavy shake roof. To top it off he replaced the old gutters with copper gutters. We then had the whole house painted. It was beautiful. The job site was kept clean at all times.

Kerry works on one job at a time, so once he starts, he is there until it's done. I've used contractors in the past who take off for three weeks at a time, and the job has taken forever. Kerry also keeps the job site immaculate, which is also rare in the construction business. Kerry has great ideas, is a pleasure to be around, and I highly recommend him. He never subs anything out either - he does it all himself - from plumbing to painting to electrical to everything!
Description of Work: Kerry built me an outdoor kitchen including BBQ, sink, trash compactor, refrigerator, custom granite tile countertop, and I LOVE it! He then built an outdoor fireplace with a huge wrap around hearth (using the same granite tiles as the BBQ area), and it's a favorite place for guests to hang out. The waterproof awning Kerry built over the outdoor kitchen allows me to BBQ even in the rain - -it's wonderful! It also keeps it cooler during the hot summer months when I'm at the BBQ. I asked Kerry to put tile on the patio after he did the outdoor kitchen, and will be asking him to do more jobs as they come. I would never use anyone else for any construction.
