(This was written 1-8-12) I decided to go with Quality Gardening and Landscaping after Eddie came over to review our property to prepare a quote. We talked about a few things I wanted: no hedge pruners making shrubs into a green box, grass should be kept green, put the clippings in my compost bin, do additional pruning / trimming when requested. They seemed like a quality operation, and Eddie explained that they only use power hedge clippers when specifically requested- else, all pruning is with hand clippers. He knew the trick for getting the grass green again (10 mins of water a day, instead of 30 minutes every 3-4 days). After a couple of months of service they've done a really nice job mowing, cleaning up plant debris, pruning, and generally just making things green and tidy. Very happy so far. Definitely a good value in my opinion, and I would not hesitate to recommend them. (Written 10-15-13) Extremely happy with the service. Lawn looks great, the rest is pruned and kept tidy. Never had an issue. Definitely recommended.

Ed was very professional, reliable and prompt. The job was completed in 5 days from start to finish. We love the finished product and for have had many compliments on the yard.

Eddie and his crew appeared everyday early. They worked diligently and neatly. No mess left behind. Work is excellent quality and all guys courteous, great suggestions for improvement of design, willing to what we wanted to happen. We had 3 bids and Eddies was the least expensive.

Let's set the scene: My small backyard had become a disaster. It had gotten to the point where not only did I not want to spend any time out there, but just looking out the windows at the yard was making me feel anxious and depressed! Nothing but weeds, dead lawn (yes, a failed experiment with EcoLawn - so the "lawn" was spider-filled, ankle-high and dead), too much cracked concrete and an terribly ill-conceived and rotting deck with rusty nails poking out. Not to mention that the winter months turned the whole area into an everglades-like swamp that had us desperately trying to direct water away from the foundations. So, my laundry-list of projects was long, and I had some money saved. I contacted three companies I found on Angie's List and met with two of them. The first interview didn't go very well. After I explained what I was interested in doing, the gentleman looked at me and said "you really want to do a lot. a lot of expensive things". He said that it would take a week to get me an estimate (it took two weeks - the estimate was very reasonable,, but it took two weeks and I got the feeling that he wasn't too interested in the job). The second company I met with was QGL (Eddie). After that, the third company was irrelevant - I knew who I wanted to do the work. Eddie Abrao clearly loves what he does; he is enthusiastic, a creative problem-solver, a hands-on and empowering boss, good at listening and detail-oriented. We talked about my wish-list and he was the first to mention the dreaded drainage issue. He was familiar with the area of Richmond I live in, and the water-table there. Luckily, I was completely on board with his insistence to address this issue as part of the big picture. He had a detailed estimate to me that same day. As far as everything else, I had a basic idea of what I wanted, but I loved that Eddie encouraged me to be open minded; he mentioned that once the demo happened, and the space was more of a blank canvas, that we would look at it differently. (Note about the demo-day: it all started right on schedule - it was noisy and messy and it went really fast! Jose and the crew is unbelievable -more on that later!) Since i didn't have a strangle-hold on my design plan, it was never a problem to make changes along the way. If I needed to make a decision in a timely manner to keep the project moving smoothly, Eddie would let me know. The day that the design was finalized could have been stressful, but it was actually fun. With spray-paint markings, Eddie showed me what he would do with the new blank canvas. I had changes and we tried several different things, by "erasing and re-drawing" in the dirt. Since Eddie was always respectful of my budget and ideas, and I was open to his expertise, we were able to collaborate very successfully. I ended up with a design that was better than what I had previously envisioned, and didn't completely blow my budget (Did I go over my initial budget? not much, but yes - however, there was never any pressure to do so, and I also got so much more than I had ever expected -so I feel that the value was there). Besides Eddie, special shout-outs go to: ~ Juan and the crew: Wow. these guys are a force to behold. Such hard workers, smart, conscientious, they all go above and beyond in every way. I got the sense that they like what they do and take pride in it. ~ Chris Reece: He built my deck and the gate across the driveway. I had a certain type of gate design that I wanted - i emailed inspiration photos, and Chris built me a gate that was better than the photos. I've put quite a lot of improvements into my home in the 5 years that I have owned it. I have never had such a positive experience as with QGL. I actually felt a little bit sad when the work was complete and the guys were gone - that was a first! I know who to hire for future work, and I look forward to it. I've invested in and increased my living space, because I want to be outside whenever I can.

We are more than thrilled with our new front yard - from beginning to end of project QGL made it a painless and exciting process. We had a seriously awful yard situation and needed the project done quickly - Eddie - the owner of QGL - came out and looked at our yard and agreed! Although he was in the middle of several other larger jobs he was able to work us in much sooner than any of the other landscapers we called and almost within a month of our first meeting the project was done. Other landscapers we contacted wanted to make the process more complicated than it needed to be - we didn't need fancy site plans, etc. With Eddie we discussed our ideas and he turned them into something even better than we could ever imagine. Everything went exactly as planned, no surprises, Eddie and his team were professional, polite, on time, very thorough, cleaned up every day and just fantastically hard workers. Eddie was wonderful to work with and we are so pleased with our front yard now. The stone walls are perfect as are the redwood trellises and with the lighting they installed we hardly recognize our house when we drive up at night - it looks so different and pretty. We've received so many compliments from neighbors and other folks passing through our neighborhood - our mail lady even asked for his card so she could see what he could do for her! We will definitely use QGL again - going to have them do our backyard soon.

Eddie was a pleasure to work with. He is extremely knowledgable and responsive. The yard came out better then our expectations!

They did a great job with the removal of wild ginger that was throughout the flower beds. Quick, efficient, and great communication!

eddie was very nice,,, but,, not very sincere......................all he had to say was 'we don't do mobile homes",,,, instead of having me do the "tour"......................and then quoting me an absolutely 'over-the-top' price for the work i needed done.............i can only hope karma tweaks him alittle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sincerely,,,,,,janette ray...................................................

Fabulous! Timely, professional, hands on. Worked well with our designer, did the complete tear out and install. Beautiful stone work, Eddie's the best!

everything went exactly as discussed and budjeted

I called several people for estimates and Eddie's ideas were the best and most reasonable. He suggested waiting on my decision to landscape the side yard until i had lived in the house longer. Also he gave me a date and stuck to it, and the job was finished on time and on budget. I was very pleased!

We were very pleased with the work! They were very prompt and the price was fair. I really like the way they pruned the shrubs. It was very well groomed. Collette was very nice and kept in great touch with us.

The cost was about $1,000 and was excellent. The yard looked better than any previous time. All the experience and work was of A quality. The only reason we would not use them now is because we now have a weekly gardening service.

Overall they do good work. Sometimes the boss gets busy with too many customers and it delays my work. The crew comes every Thursday and on always on time and do great work.

There are always people that would want to do things cheaply but it was worth it as far as the quality was concerned. His responsiveness was outstanding. I received emails constantly and he was one of the best that I have ever dealt with as far as the communication was concerned. Their punctuality was outstanding and they were totally reliable. They were outstanding in terms of their professionalism and I thought that it was partly because of the owner. He was here everyday and supervised his people. He did a great job.
