 + 0 moreScudder is terrific. I highly recommend their services. They are extremely competent and professional. The guys that do the work have many years of experience. They think of all the things that I didn't know enough to worry about, and told me how they were going to address all these issues. For example, protecting our plants, providing a porta-potty, choosing good roofing materials that are in my budget but of very high quality. The preconstruction meeting went well once everyone's schedules were coordinated. The foreman for each aspect of the job was present to make sure that everything was scheduled and completed according to plan. The solar installation was done much quicker than we'd hoped for. Scudder certainly isn't the cheapest roofing company in the area, but I think that it is well worth their prices to have peace of mind that we are being taken care of by an experience company and crew that knows what they are doing. Even though we were probably a small job for them, we felt very valued as a customer. I highly recommend their service!

 + -1 moreWe contacted Scudder Roofing to do repairs or replace a roof on a rental we had. They came and did the measurements and then left. I believe we were expecting the estimate either by email or mailed to us. I think it was one week later that we hired someone else to do the job. Later we received a phone message that Scudder Roofing wanted us to go their office which we did not want to do and since we already had the roof replaced, we no longer needed their service. I previously posted erroneous information that said we did not hear from them at all. That was incorrect and I apologize for that error

I just received a phone call from the owner apologizing for what happened and he was very concerned about it. He was very sincere and gracious about the fact that we went with another company because of that lack of communication from Scudder. I truly believe that this is not their normal mode of operation. I just want to counter my previous review and thank him for his concern. I have no doubt that they would have done an exceptional job on our roof.

 + 1 moreThey were a little more expensive than the others but they had a really good reputation, especially in this area. They were very responsive and explained the contracting in great detail and provided all the information. They did a good job.
Description of Work: We used The Scudder Roofing Company for gutter cleaning and replacement of eaves. They replaced the tile roof with a composite tile roof and put in additional venting in the roof. They replaced some eaves that had termite damage and also replaced some rain gutters that had rusted out.

 + -1 moreI liked the young man that came to give the estimate. He was professional and prompt. He took his time and answered all my questions. I realized half way through that this was going to be a bigger deal than I wanted to do. He wanted a second meeting with my husband to sit down and go over the proposal. I wanted the estimate while he was here. I realize a formal estimate would need to be given at a later date, but I wanted to discuss price, ballpark anyway. I needed to press him a little bit to get that. I could tell he was going to be way over our budget. He gave estimate that would be over $20,000. Too expensive for us.
Description of Work: The scudder representative that came for the estimate was very professional and personable. He was puntual. After doing the estimate I wanted to try to get an idea of cost as well as options. He was great with the options but not wanting to give me a price without my husband present. It was alittle too Sales for me. I understand that some big businesses have large operations and have got procedures for their company. I did finally get him to give me a best guess within $5000. They were too expensive. I could tell just from that price ballpark that we needed to go with a smaller company with less overhead and less cost. The best guess from the estimate was over $20,000 when I pressed for a ballpark price.

From the moment that Kurt Jensen, the Project Consultant, arrived at our home we felt that no detail was missed in the quote he worked out to replace the existing roof that was giving us problems. I was also very happy to meet with Frank Knappe, the Field Superintendent, who came out with Bernardo Reyes, the Foreman, to see the project before they started the actual work. Due to a mix-up at the facility where they purchased the Duro-Last roofing, they were unable to start the project the day they initially wanted to. However, Jennifer Scudder, was on the phone assuring me that the correct product would arrive and the following week the project was underway. We also had a change in our project Foreman from Bernardo to Rafael Heredia. Rafael met with me every morning before the project began and once again in the evening before they left to let me know what was accomplished and what they needed to finish the next day. He was extremely professional and wonderful to work with. I think one of the things that impressed me about this company is the amount of years the crew has been working for the owners. Most have been with the company for over 10 years and that says a great deal to me about a good working environment along with customer satisfaction for jobs completed. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking at getting any type of roofing project work done.
Description of Work: At the rear low sloped roof areas: Tear off the one detectable existing built up mineral surfaced cap sheet roof system down to the original roof sheathing and remove the debris from the premises. Pull or knock down all existing fasteners to create a smooth substrate for the new roof installation. Remove and replace up to 40 linear feet of 2" x 8" fascia board and the 1/2" plywood at the underside of the soffit near the eave of the roof deck. New fascia is to be 25 year warranted, double-primed, finger jointed Advantage lumber. Prep the pitched roof system where the low slope roof transitions into the pitched roof deck for the installation of the new Duro-Last roof system. Install 20 year warranted, single ply 50-mil, pre-fabricated Duro-Last roof system.per manufactures specifications. Duro-Last will be mechanically fastened to the roof deck over one layer of 1/4" SecureRock fire retardant decking to form a class A fire rated roof system. Duro-Last at perimeter edge to be terminated with vinyl gravel stop at the rake locations and drip edge at the eave locations. Install new pre-fabricated Duro-Last heat vent sleeves, vent boots and inside and outside corners. Drill 2 each 2" holes in the frieze blocks and plywood at the underside of the soffit at each rafter bay in order to create ventilation for the otherwise sealed rafter bays. Install new perimeter 2" round louvered vent screens in the plywood soffit. Tie in pitched roof to the low slope roof deck and clean up upon completion and dispose of all debris Removed and replaced wood rot found during original roof removal because of unforeseen nature of the rot.

Only thing that could have improved the experience was to bring same style roof tile, repairman used a brown tile instead black but location is not visible from ground or windows so did not really matter except from aerial view (birds do not complain)

Description of Work: Don was apologetic regarding on not making his appointment for the estimate. The office assistant, Adelle was pleasant. and returned my phone call and answered my e-mail regarding possible dates and times for the appointment. Don was through with his questions and explained on how cathedral ceiling will have an effect in roof replacement. He also explained the deferred financing. He went up on my roof and took measurements and briefly told me while he was up on the roof as to whether or not the felt needs to be replaced. He should have a written estimate by tomorrow.

 + 0 moreThe company was friendly and easy to talk to. Dan was also very nice and respectful. I felt glad to have the job done and know nothing weird is in the gutters. I felt like I could trust his judgement. He also mentioned that whoever did the roof was really not very professional. Considering what we went through having the house redone, I have to agree with him. I feel comfortable having them do other work if needed.
Description of Work: Gutters needed checked and cleaned of clutter if there. One downspout needed unplugged. Dan called and said they could come 2 hours earlier since another job was finished early. Dan and another man showed up shortly after the phone call and immediately set to work. They took away whatever was found in the gutter and also had found the downspout was plugged with a fast food container (from the previous roofers). We thought it was the crows plugging it up with walnuts! Dan also found a brace from the removed solar system was gone and the pipe was taped over. A strip on top of the facia was also reattached into place.

 + -1 moreWe discovered a leak in the roof of our house, and called Scudder Roofing. (We had no prior experience with this contractor.) It was supposed to rain heavily again the next day, and we were very concerned about ongoing damage. Scudder sent two repairmen the same day we called. They arrived exactly at the time (4:30 PM) they promised, discovered the source of the leak, and had the roof repaired within about 45 minutes. It did rain heavily the next day, and several times afterward...NO MORE LEAKING ! Great job.

 + 0 moreI noticed the gutter sagging away from the house one weekend. The following week, we called no less that three roofing contractors. The first two never returned our call. Scudder Roofing was the only company who called us back. They came out promptly. They sent two people to do the repair (we paid an hourly rate for each person). They also cleaned all of our gutters and gave us some advice to prevent the same problem from happening in the future. The job was completed it in about 1 1/2 hours. They charged a service fee of $125.00 plus an hourly rate of $82.00 per hour plus the cost of materials. We were very happy with the job in the end--the service fee on top of the hourly rate seemed a little high.
Description of Work: Reattached a gutter that pulled away from the roof and cleaned the gutters.
