The Closet Factory

From the very beginning, the communications was a bit off. We attributed this to technology and I actually received a call from the scheduling supervisor days after the fact to apologize for the mix up. The designer scheduled to meet with me was running behind schedule so he requested to move the appointment two hours later. I complied. During the first thirty minutes of our meeting he felt it necessary to make me aware of his experience designing closets at a price point running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars ($300,000) to be exact. Needless to say my 50 sq ft space would not be a challenge for him. But you would be hard pressed to reach this conclusion based on the simplicity of the design that was sent to me. Angie's list was not my only reference to this company. They are also listed as the go to company under Costco's guide to custom storage. Is it possible that both consumer resources got it wrong or did I just get off to a bad start? In sum, I received three bids from different companies and made my decision to go with another company. This decision was based upon the following factors: (1) responsiveness, (2) puncuality, (3) flexibility of closet systems, and (4) cost. Even with a Costco cash card offer ( which frankly I believe would be better served by a lower price on the cost for custom storage) and a twenty-five percent discount from the owner of the compant, the bid from Closet Factory was 71% higher than the second highest bid I received, using the same material as a comparison but excluded certain accessories that I have decided to add on. Having made my decision, I telephoned the other two companies, including Closet Factory and explained to the design consultant that I had decided to go with another company. At this point, he began to verbally scould me for choosing to do business with another company whose technology was inferior (or I believe he actually said outdated) and when I explained our need for a more flexible system because of a trap door being installed in the same area he told me that my contractor did not know what he was talking about. So I explained to the factors I used to reach my decision and you could feel his sting through the phone. I am very glad not to have to deal with him and this company. And I pray that this review is helpful to all who reads it. My big take away from all this is that you must trust your instincts, especially when it comes to inviting people into your home. "The King of Custom Closets" may be for some but it most definitely was not for me.
