Description of Work: He restained some knotty pine cabinets into this really deep rich custom-made colors, kind of a burgundy, slightly reddish thing that went with my new tile work.

Description of Work: Rene refinished our kitchen cabinets, modified a lower cabinet and drawer to fit a new wine cooler and opened up an area surrounding our side-by-side refridgerator to put in a larger model. He took down a soffet in the powder room.

Description of Work: Most recently, Rene prepped and stained the handle-rail, and newell post of our new staircase, to coordinate with our newly refinished and stained hardwood floors. He stained an antique shelf attached to the wall in the foyer, a beautiful espresso color. He restained the inside of our double front doors, to coordinate with our new cherry wood color. He refinished our kitchen window frame to coordinate with our cupboards. He resealed the exterior of our front door, without charge. Rene has done major projects for us over the years, in 2006 and 2011. He has stained our fireplace mantel a rich cherry color; he stained our front door, the huge window frame around a leaded glass window above our front door; the 10-foot-long side-table cupboard in our living room; the wooden ceiling boxes in our family room and the window frames around our Pella windows in our family room, a beautiful fruitwood color; faux-stained our metal garage doors so that they are indistinguishable from wood; he has painted the exterior of our two-story house, including trim.

Description of Work: Rene rebuilt, refinished, and completely restored an abused mid-century modern chair. The end result is gorgeous!

Description of Work: Our double entry doors with sidelights and garage doors were painted dark grey by the previous owners. Rene stripped the paint, refinished, and stained the entry doors back to its original finish. He also faux painted our garage doors to match our entry doors.

Description of Work: Rene and his crew refinished natural maple cabinets in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, and media room. These cabinets were custom built and installed in 2007. The original finish on the cabinets was not adequate to protect them in water-intensive areas such as the kitchen and bathrooms. Within a very short period of time the original finish showed stains and streaks as a result of contact with water and other liquids. After 5 years of use, the cabinets were very unsightly. I was concerned that they may have been damaged permanently and would have to be replaced, but Rene assured us that he would be able to restore them to "like-new" condition. He stripped the old finish off the cabinets, sanded them to a smooth, clean surface, touched up the color so that all the cabinets would be uniform in appearance, applied two coats of sealer and two coats of a satin-finish varnish. I asked him to use a post-catalyzed varnish so that we could get the maximum protection in these wet environments. I did some research on varnishes and concluded that a post-catalyzed varnish gives the most durable finish of any varnish. Only polyurethane is more durable, but it is very shiny and would not give the cabinets the type of look that we wanted. The end result is that the cabinets do, indeed, look just "like-new." Rene was able to restore the cabinets to much better condition than I was expecting. In addition to the refinishing, Rene fixed many broken hinges and latches, as well as a large number of alignment and warping problems that were the result of shoddy workmanship on the original cabinets. He and his crew spent several days dealing with these issues and was able to fix most of the problems. The cabinets now look much better than they did when we first moved in;

Description of Work: Refinished all kitchen cabinets.

Description of Work: The legs of a table that belonged to my mother had broken from the base. It turned out that the legs had been repaired (badly) once before. Rene had to figure out how to put everything back together. He not only repaired the legs, he refinished them and polished the brass caps on the ends of the legs.

Description of Work: The cabinets in our kitchen had faded finishes and some water damage. Rene refinished them and repaired the damaged areas. This required removing all of the doors and drawer faces, staining them, then resealing. They had to tape and cover most of the kitchen to also refinish the cabinets themselves. The entire process took about a week.

Description of Work: Rene completely refinished older oak kitchen cabinets with a contemporary glazed, smooth finish.

Description of Work: I had two wooden chairs from the fifties that had completely fallen apart. In addition, they had arms that I wanted removed. Rene picked up the chairs, reglued them so that they were like new. He removed the arms, filled in the holes where the screws were, and refinished them to match the existing finish. It took him a week, which I thought was a reasonable amount of time. He was always on time, very professional as well as being very friendly. I would definitely hire him again.

Description of Work: Rene refinished all of our very modern and expensive walnut-veneered kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The cabinets also required rehanging, as well as the addition of all new hardware which our contractor had never completed. As these custom built-ins are a central design element of our home, I was very concerned with finding someone who would both finish the work on time and within our budget but who would also be sensitive to the aesthetics of the job. Rene exceeded my expectations, walked me through every step of the process so that I felt comfortable, and completed the job on time and to perfection. Wish I'd used him when we'd renovated the house! I was so impressed with his work that I asked him to refinish a table and a huge pocket sliding door we had at the same time. Cannot recommend highly enough.
