Description of Work: Tenant called when HVAC system stopped working. They were told there would be a house call charge plus hourly charges to repair. A technician was sent out. He could not figure out the problem after spending about 20 minutes under the house. While he was in the underfloor area he smoked several cigarettes - the smoke rose and stunk up the house and tenants' clothes in the master bedroom closet above. He could not figure out the problem and decided it was probably electrical and said they would need to send out one of their electricians to look at the wiring. Asked when that would be - we were told to call the shop. Called back to the shop and was told there would be another call out charge - they do not do free estimates. I did not use their electrician - at that point I was able to contact our regular HVAC co. who came out later that day (no house call charge) and quickly found a small, inexpensive fuse that had burned out and replaced it for less than A & B's call out charge. So A & B provided no service - they were not able to identify the problem or repair. Seemed incompetent.

 + 1 moreIt was a disaster. I have fired A&B Plumbing and will NEVER use them ever again for any reason. I strongly advise others to learn from my mistakes and not hire them .This is not the first time I have had trouble with them and been very dissatisfied with their service, which is abominable. I only used them this time because it was an emergent situation .
Description of Work: Original request was to have Septic Tank pumped. They used a septic tank locator which was over 10' feet off, resulting in the unnecessary excavation of 1/2 of my backyard, ruining thousands of dollars of landscaping. On top of that, the owner of A&B agreed in front of witnesses to meet a digging crew I had to hire at 10:30.A&B Plumbing did not show up at all. Not only did I have to pay my crew for an entire wasted day, I had to pay them to come back again.

 + -1 moreMy 94 year old grandmother arranged for A&B Plumbing to send a technician to her house in West LA to replace her garbage disposal on Friday, January 22, 2010. The technician did not provide an estimate of the cost. Instead, after replacing the garbage disposal, which took approximately 45 minutes, he presented her with a bill for $807.00. She paid the bill rather than get into a confrontation with him. The bill did not explain how the charges were determined. The parts can be purchased retail for no more than $200, which means she was charged over $600 for less than an hour of labor. I believe the technician took advantage of an elderly woman. In two phone calls to ask the company how they determine charges for replacing a garbage disposal, or what their hourly labor rates are, company personnel stated that they would not provide any information about how charges are determined over the phone, and the only way to get pricing information would be to have a technician come to the house (for a $57.50 service charge).
Description of Work: Installed a garbage disposal.

Description of Work: A&B had to search for the septic tank...expensive but they didn't charge for the camera. Found the tank and did a clean-out.

 + -1 moreThe plumber did not arrive during the range of four hours stated, so we had to call A&B again to get someone here. When the plumber was finishing up, I happened to walk out into the garage where water was pouring out of the ceiling, which is also the floor of the master bedroom/bath. He said it wasn't his fault. How could that have been a coincidence? So for an additional fee on the next day, he and an assistant cut 16 X 16-inch holes in the wall of the master bedroom and in the garage's ceiling to fix the leaking pipe, which they did. We were left with the two holes plus the gouged, discolored sink from the original job.
Description of Work: This spring we asked A&B to send out a plumber to unplug the drain of one sink in the master bath.

gas leak repair
 + -1 moreTHEY WERE VERY FAST AND PROMPT WITH THE WORK AT HAND. THEY HAD EVERYTHING ORGANIZED AND READY TO WORK WITH. THEY HAD EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE, THEREFORE IT WASN'T A PROBLEM.
Description of Work: WE HAD A LEAK WITH THE PIPE THAT GOES FROM THE KITCHEN TO THE WATER HEATER. WE HAD HEARD THAT THEY WERE THE BEST FOR THE JOB, SO WE HAD THEM COME AND FIX IT.

 + -1 moreTHEY TOOK THEIR TIME AND DID IT RIGHT. THEY REPAIRED IT AS QUICKLY AND AS QUIETLY AS THEY COULD. THEY WERE NICE AND WILLING TO HELP. I WOULD HIRE THEM FOR ANOTHER JOB AGAIN.
