Jose Mendez Tile

Spoke with Jose on the phone a number of times and emailed him pictures of our job. We set up and appointment for him to install tile in our kitchen and his price was reasonable. He never arrived and never called. I have called a half dozen times since and he has not returned a single call. Cant possibly recommend him to anyone.

Jose performed all the preparation, building up a metal mesh and cement base from the wood studs. He then brought in an assistant with experience in this sort of work to place the tiles. It all went smoothly and the end result is beautiful. Jose wasn’t the cheapest bid I got but displayed more knowledge of the task than his competitors. He was worth the price and I would readily recommend him to anyone else especially if the job is difficult

Jose was a little pricier than my original tile guy, but well worth the additional money, since he clearly knew what he was doing. He suggested an anti-crack membrane and putting perimeter joints against the stucco surfaces without my having to ask. He was also knowledgeable about the waterproofing selection that I made, that my previous tile contractor never heard of. Jose had to deal with some challenging sloping and drainage issues that he handled like a pro. The tile looks great and I expect it to hold up for years without leaks, cracks or tiles popping as my previous tile experienced. I would highly recommend Jose, especially if you have a challenging project like exterior stairs or sloping issues.

Although Jose was unable to give us an estimate, he was professional on the phone and I am sure he does great work. However, I would recommend that on the posting for the business that the indicates the service areas he can travel to.

Jose and his son showed up exactly on time. They were extremely courteous and pleasant. Their work was meticulous and completed to perfection. He regrouted the entire shower area and recaulked the edges. It is impossible to tell the difference between the old tile work (now repaired) and the newly installed tiles. I would not hesitate to give him my highest recommendation.

I was extremely satisfied with the work completed by Jose Mendez. I thought his work estimate was honest and fair. He was prompt each time he came out to the house, he cleaned and removed all debris at the conclusion of each day, he kept his assistants on task and motivated them when the task seemed to daunting, and was very easy-going yet professional. What I liked best about Mr. Mendez is that he took pride in his work and it showed in his craftsmanship. Even the HomeDepot staff member who installed my windows and doors commented on the great tile work and asked for his car. I will definitely call Jose Mendez for any future tile work.

I called Jose and he called me right back and he came out on a Saturday to give me an estimate. His cost was very fair compared those who i talked to previously. I was going to do the demo work myself and prep the walls for him to tile but I renegotiated the price with him and had him do the complete job, including the demo and the prep work. Jose was very knowledgeable and offered suggestion which turned out to be excellent ones in the shower design. He and all his workers were friendly, timely and really experts in what they do. Jose has the one thing in mind that I was looking for...quality workmanship. He does things the right way and follows through with that through the entire job. Every day when he was finished, he would tell me when he would be there next and he was always on time and ready to go, as well as his crew. He was very careful with dirt and dust etc, since demoing a shower can be really dirty work. He and his crew laid down paper all through my condo, where they were walking and taking debris out etc. I can only tell you this,...Jose and his crew are real craftsman. They do excellent work and pay attention to detail and don't try to cut corners to save time etc. I'd hire them back in a second for any other tile work i have. I highly recommend them to anyone and Jose, on a personal note, I thank you and you're guys for giving me and my wife the bathroom of our dreams. You're the best!!

He had great reviews on Angie's List so we were very enthusiastic about meeting him. He was extremely knowledgeable in person. He said h would give us a written estimate, which we requested so that we would all be on the same page about the services he would perform. We had already brought the tile and had it delivered. A few days later on Saturday, he called me and said he wanted to tell me the price quote over the phone before writing it up. His overall quote was for $8,500. That was more than we could afford at the time since we were also getting a new kitchen built. So, we agreed to get just the flooring and tile for the shower in one bathroom for a total of $5,000 at this time. We discussed his starting work on Monday or Tuesday so he could complete the kitchen and laundry room floor within the week. He said he would email the written estimate detailing the work and that was the last I heard from him. He did not send the written quote and he did not show up. I called him, emailed and sent a text and he did not respond. He did not even have the courtesy to notify us that he had changed his mind about doing the work since we decided not to have everything done at once. This was extremely unprofessional. We wasted nearly a week waiting for him before I called other companies and started all over again.

My wife and I had a great experince with Jose and have already recommended him to several of our friends. He was always on time for appointments, did not charge more than the agreeded upon price, and he is a nice guy. Also, Jose's quote was far lower than several others we had received. Finally, in watching Jose perform the work, I was amazed at how detailed oriented he was. Jose took more care in laying down the title than I think I would have if I had done it myself.

mr. mendez arrived on time as scheduled and made a detailed physical inspection of the work required. although we had agreed on a price prior to his arrival - mr. mendez did a bit of and quot;upsellingand quot; on the final price. professional, patient and personable personify this and quot;tile guyand quot;. he is deliberately careful and meticulous - delivering a first class product and complete satisfaction. without hesitation i would use his services again and easily can recommend him. overall this was truly an and quot;excellentand quot; consumer experience. thank you, jose!!!!

Jose Mendez did a good job installing 3x6 subway tile on the walls and 1and quot; penny rounds on the floor. He contacted me by phone within a day after leaving him a message. He came to give an estimate promptly the next day. His bid was the lowest (by nearly double) and I feel like I got much more than my money's worth. Jose and his (rotating) workman were always on time and professional. Some days he would work well into the night to ensure the task had been completed to his expectations and standards. I got the feeling he greatly appreciated his trade and would do whatever was necessary to get the job done right. He took about one week to complete the bathroom and both my wife and I are happy with the results. We have received compliments on his work from friends and other contractors. The tile looks good, but is not absolutely perfect. Some tiles tilt slightly or are off-center. This human quality I actually have come to appreciate and enjoy when I see it. Since the installation I now notice the quality of tile installation in other houses and businesses and I am very pleased with Jose's work. I do wish he had waited a few weeks before sealing the tile to first let the grout completely dry. We were not living in the space, so this would have been an option. This would not have been an issue had we chosen white grout, but because we went with Delorean grey, it has looked much darker and splotchier than it should. Two months after installation and it is now turning the correct color. Again, I am very happy with his work and professionalism. I found his information and read his reviews on Angieslist.

We provided the tile and they installed it. Overall, they are okay, but their workmanship is a little below average.

Experience with Jose has been exceptional! He helped me with a bedroom that desperately needed tile and needed it done right away. Despite it being a holiday weekend, Jose came to give me an estimate and was able to accommodate me with getting my floor done. The price was better then I could have imagined and the work was exceptional, so much so that before he could finish the floor, I asked him to continue the work and to put the same tile in the adjoining bathroom. I could see right away that the floors were going to look beautiful. Jose did not charge me a lot more for the additional floor so I was very pleased. I recently purchased my house and it is indeed a fixer. When Jose started the floors they needed much more work then we had anticipated and at first I was worried but thankfully I was in good hands. Jose replaced the bad wood and now I have the satisfaction in knowing that the floor is brand new! A couple months passed and I hired Jose to work on the second bathroom. Once again I got great service, a great price and was very pleased with the work. So far the floors are the first thing I show off in my house, and I have plans to do some work in the kitchen. Jose will be the only one that I will hire. Aside from the great work and great prices, Jose is a very friendly and honest person. If you know what you want done he can do it and if you need ideas and suggestions (such as I did) he is always willingly to help. I never felt rushed with him, he took his time to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I felt a very personal touch in his work, and I got the strong feeling that he takes pride in all the work he does.

I've been using Angie's List for three years now and this is the first time it has ever let me down. I was looking for a contractor to do two things: 1) install a glass tile backsplash in my kitchen and 2) install a stone mosaic on the face of my fireplace. I searched for contractors on Angie's List and eventually asked four people to come bid on the work. Jose was on time and quickly provided an estimate. Of the four contractors, he was the only one who did not take detailed measurements of the space which, in retrospect, should have been a red flag. In any case, Jose's quote was the cheapest by a large margin. So much so that I thought he had misquoted me. I went back and re-read all of the reviews about him and they were universally positive. Based on the strength of his Angie's List reviews, I decided to go with him. On the first day of the job, Jose arrived an hour late. He said he had gotten confused about our starting time. We were supposed to meet before I went to work so I ended up getting to the office late. He apologized, though, so I didn't think too much of it. We quickly went through the job again and I told him I would be back around lunch time to check in. When I came back, Jose was working on prepping the kitchen wall while his assistant was laying out the stone mosaic tile on the fireplace. I noticed some gaps in the tile placement which I pointed out to Jose and he said that they would adjust the tile later on as the thinset was too wet. Other than that, the job seemed to be going fine so I went back to work. He called me around 3pm to say that the fireplace was finished and that he had completed the prep work on the backsplash. Since the waterproofing compound he put on the kitchen wall needed to cure, he said he would come back the next day to finish it. When I got back from work that night, I was shocked by what I saw. I will say upfront that I had purchased a complicated stone mosaic tile. It came in 12and quot; x 12and quot; sheets with a set pattern. The individual tiles were small and varied in depth which made it a bit tricky to install. Even so, the mistakes made should have been readily apparent to Jose given his experience. First off, Jose did not even out the wall. The wall was itself was not completely straight and there were small pieces of drywall missing from the removal of the old tile. He should have leveled the surface first so that all the pieces would lie flat evenly. Instead, he simply laid the new tile on top of it which left the end product uneven. Second, Jose missed the pattern in several places. There were at least five different pieces which did not continue the pattern and the tiles had clearly been laid in upside down. Lastly, there were several places where the tile was not placed in tightly enough against the adjacent piece leaving a visible gap between the two. To make sure I wasn't seeing things, I asked my neighbor who is a contractor to come in and take a look. He confirmed all of the same issues I mentioned above. I called Jose to discuss the problems and he immediately became defensive with me. I explained to him all of the issues above and he accused me of being and quot;too pickyand quot; and saying that he didn't want to work with me any more. He insisted that he reviewed all of the work before leaving and that everything was fine. After nearly 30 minutes of back and forth, he finally agreed to fix the work. When he came back a couple days later, it was obvious to Jose that he had made mistakes. Without an apology, he and his assistant spent all day re-setting the off-pattern tile. Short of starting over, there was nothing that could be done about the uneven wall. The gaps in the tile would also require starting over and likely purchasing additional material. When he was done, the most obvious mistakes had been corrected although the general quality of the job was still sloppy. After wanting to quit the job two days before, Jose then asked when he could finish the backsplash. I told him I would think about it and get back to him. After thinking about it over the weekend, I decided not to have him finish the backsplash. I paid him for the work he had already done and ended up hiring a new contractor to complete the job. At the end of the day, I just didn't have enough confidence in Jose's attention to detail to let him take on a bigger project. The whole experience was so disappointing that I actually found myself wondering if I had called the right phone number because the person I dealt with seems completely different from the one described in the reviews. Not only was the quality of his work just okay, his attitude when confronted with the problems was completely unprofessional. For those two reasons, I cannot recommend him to anyone.

Jose came to inspect the location and assess the job and supplied us with a detailed estimate. We eliminated two other prospective job applicants and decided on Jose two days later. His estimate included all measurements and amount and type of tile required. He also gave us a price including having him purchasing or an option if we purchased the tile. His crew which included his son, began work a couple of days later as scheduled and were prompt and professional through out the entire project. They laid down painters paper on the floor from the entry all the way to the location in the bath each day and removed it at day's end. The workers were extremely polite and unobtrusive in carrying out the project. The job was completed as scheduled and I would highly recommend Jose to anyone looking for this kind of remodel.

Jose and his workers were all very nice people. He seemed pretty busy and he was squeezing me in between other jobs, so he wasn't always able to show up exactly when agreed upon. I was flexible and he was willing to work late to get the job done so it wasn't a big deal, but that's why I gave a B as opposed to an A on punctuality. Overall it was a good experience and I would use him again. I already had all the materials, but it was his suggestion to float the shower wall which came out pretty good. The only negative part I would say is that he will raise the price on you if you let him, thus the B on pofessionalism. I was originally quoted $300 for demo and $700 for tiling the bathroom and quot;everything includedand quot;. I declined the demo and just hired him for the tiling. When he showed up to do the work I asked how he would grout the 6in. stone accent and he said it would be $75 more because it's small grout lines so it has to be soupy (but that I didn't have to grout it, no additional cost). I agreed to it and then he changed the $700 everything included to labor only and it was up to $925 including grout for the 6in accent. I didn't argue because I still thought it was a fair price since floating the wall requires materials. Plus it was more like he was probing to see if I would pay more and I'm sure I could have held him to the original quote. He also forgot to tell me that when you float a wall you need finish cap tiles for a clean look because the tiles are elevated a bit. When the wall was just about done he quoted me $190 more (150 for materials and 40 for labor) to do the finish tiles. I had other contractors who were able to do it for $50 (parts and labor) so I declined that work. Again, overall Jose does good work for a good price and I would recommend using him. Probably best to get everything down on paper before getting started so no additional work creeps up like it did on me. He is a nice guy though and I'm sure I could of stuck to the original agreed upon amounts. End of the day, my bathroom is really nice now so I'm happy :)

I set up to meet Jose at 9am on a Sunday morning. He was there 10 minutes early. He provided me one of the most competitive prices and walked me through various scenarios on how to best do the job. I hadn't picked out the tile. Since it is a multi-family unit, I didn't want to go overboard on pricing for the tile. He recommended tile stores where I could get the tile at great value. He continued to stay in touch with me until I made a decision and was always helpful, never pushy. He also agreed to pick up the tiles from the store off Sherman Way in the valley saving me a delivery charge. I completely trust him and would use him again and recommend him to my friends. He is a very nice and honest man.

Overall the project went well. The tile work was excellent. Jose is very easy to work with and a nice guy. He recommended a place for me to get tile which was great. Our laundry room door didn't fit after he was done which was unfortunate. He informed me but we ended up having to shave it down. The only other negative was not related to Jose's work. He had a friend help us change out our water heater as it was in the room being tiled. There were some problems with plumbing issues but it finally got resolved.

He was unbelievably great. People who walk in there now can't believe what a great job he did. I would highly recommend him.
