Description of Work: This time there was no cost because the company just came out to do some warranty work, but I would definitely recommend Method Paving. They are very good at what they do, punctual, friendly and stand by their work. Nathan came right out and took care of a little problem we had, and I also had him quote another little job I plan on doing soon. I will also call Nathan when I'm ready to do more paving work. Great company.

Description of Work: It included 3 interrelated projects: removal and replacement of 39' of buckled (by tree roots) sidewalk; removal and replacement of a landing and step (also damaged by roots) plus facing them and the remainder of a total 42' long landing, walkway, porch and steps with premium flagstone; and removing and replacing a tree-damaged 2 car wide driveway and associated walkway (including buried sprinkler lines) with premium paving stones. Rick, the owner was extremely helpful in designing the projects. I walked away from our first meeting with an estimate and work plan that was essentially unchanged in the final landscape. The final quality was excellent. He met all schedules. The final results were everything we hoped for. The only small issue keeping it from perfection (still a 99+% out of 100) was an accidental crack in a partially cured sidewalk segment during driveway removal that was filled properly. |As a Plant Operations or Facilities Engineering Manager, before my retirement, with two fortune 100 local companies for 14 years, responsible for thousands of facilities projects, I would grade Modern Paving in the top 5% of contractors I have dealt with and would enthusiastically use their services again.

I think they are very responsible and fast. They basically helped me choose the pavers and briefed me on their detailed plan for paving, so basically I think that was very good. The only thing that I think they can do better is on the price as they are not the lowest paid of the ones I have asked. I would use them again in the future.

For many reasons we did not want to remove the tree or mess with cutting its roots. Nathan helped us determine the best route for the drain piping, cut out the old concrete to remove the old drain, cut a new channel for new piping, and installed the new drain. Finally, he put in new concrete where needed, and restored the landscaping that had to be cut through to its old position. Nathan was prompt, the job cost what was estimated and was quickly completed. It looks great, functions perfectly, and if I needed any other concrete work I would call Method Pavers first.
Description of Work: A drain in our driveway led to a pipe under a tree, whose roots were crushing the drain. As a result, water would seriously back up during heavy rains, and because the drain led into a creek which could overflow and flood the house, we needed to reroute the drain so that water would drain properly. Nathan from Method Pavers took out the old drain, put in a new drain, including cutting and then pouring concrete. Everything works perfectly now.

Rick was a great guy. He came in and talked with us about what we would like to see. He made some measurements and showed us many options for the types of pavers we could use. With his experience, he was also able to recommend a few style that he thought would go very nicely, because the type of paver that was currently there wasn't made anymore (it was about 20 years old). We then scheduled a time for them to come do the work. They were on time, polite, efficient, and knew what they were doing. While removing the old pavers and foundation they cracked one of the plastic pvc pipes for the landscape watering that had run just under the pavers -- this isn't unexpected and was no big deal. They were quick to turn off the water, do a solid patch on the pipe and kept right on going. They laid the new pavers and put on a sealant in the next couple days. It looks amazing, the area is flat and level and we can actually sit on our sideyard now. They did a great job and we are extremely pleased with the result.
Description of Work: We bought a house in November of 2010. The side patio -- which consisted of paver stones -- was buckling due to age and tree roots and needed to be completely redone. It was about a 20' x 14' area that had yard on a couple sides, and it merged smoothly into brick steps on the other. Method Paving completely removed the old paver stones and its foundation, accounted for the tree roots, put a new foundation in, and put new paver stones down. It took about 3 days to complete.

I was very happy with the work done and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Rick was very easy to work with and I never felt pressured. His crew did a very professional job. My neighbors were impressed with what a great job they did.
Description of Work: Method Paving was referred to me by a friend. Rick came out and gave me a quote on replacing the deck area with pavers. He also broke up the quote in case we wanted to do some of the demo ourselves and save some money. He was very helpful with design and explained how the pavers are laid. He was very patient with me as I have a terrible time making decisions. When I finally picked a paver I pretty much let him decide the pattern. I trusted his suggestions. One problem did show up after the deck was removed and that was hole in the dirt. He put water down the hole with a hose and I thought it would never stop. He called his men (who happened to be on a job in the area) to come over with the truck with base rock and they must have used at least 20 - 30 wheel barrows full of rock to fill what became almost a sink hole. He came back the next day to see if it stayed filled. After that problem was taken care of it only took 2 1/2 days to lay the pavers. They worked very fast, kept everything clean and did an extremely beautiful job.

The owner of the company, Rick Pestana, met with me on time and gave me a quote during this first meeting. I received 3 quotes from other companies, one a little lower, and two much higher than Rick's. I chose Method Paving because Rick really knows his business, is honest, very professional, provided excellent details about the job, and gave me a good, fair price. I believe it was the best price for the exceptional quality of work provided. Rick's employees showed up on time every day and cleaned up at the end of each day. The quality of work was outstanding. When they were done they put everything back in place almost exactly as it was at the start. Awesome! One of the very best experiences I've had with a company. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Broke up and removed a large concrete patio, plus some grass and soil. replaced pato and grass area with quarry stone pavers - and did all the measuring, levelling, gravel, and sand that goes in before the stone. The complete job was finished within 4 days! The company employees were very professional, neat, and clean. My neighbors were very impressed!

The job involved cutting through old pavement, re-routing existing pipe, laying new pipe, putting in a new drain with a grate strong enough to drive over, re-paving, removing and replacing dirt. They were very neat, the new drain works perfectly.
Description of Work: I needed to have a drain pipe re-routed through my driveway, away from a fruit tree and into a creek. It replaced another drain pipe which ran under the fruit tree and was crushed, causing flooding in my driveway. Nathan from Method Paving did the quote and supervised the job. The job was not a large one, but they did a great job. They were very neat, did exactly what they said they would do, and the end result is perfect.

They did a good job. The job came out great! They were punctual. They cleaned up after themselves nice. The work seems to be high quality. We tried to get a landscaper to do the whole job, but they came out to be quite a bit more expensive. It was a good option for us. I think we could have found someone who was a little less expensive. They took us to one of their jobs and showed us their work. We were pretty happy with the price and quality that they offered.

They were excellent. We spent about $20,000 on that work and I was pretty pleased with the price. They showed up on time and worked really hard and it was all done within a week or less. They had good workers and the mason was the one that handled our job. He was here every morning and evening to check on the progress. We had a 40 by 15 feet wood deck that had rotted out and they put in a new paving deck and paved down the sidewalk. We will probably have them out again to do the boulevard and driveway.

I agonized over what to do with my back yard once the decks became unsafe. I live in a condo, which is hemmed in by other units, both within my complex and outside. The only access is through a neighbor's yard (a yard that was recently mulched and planted) and a good half a block from the parking lot. Once I ascertained that real rock would be outrageously expensive, I started calling pavers from a list supplied by Peninsula Building Materials Co. The callbacks were slow in coming, and the news discouraging when they did. The first bidder told me it would cost $27,000 and my neighbor would sue me before it was over; I told him not to bother commiting it to paper. Only one sounded interested and capable of doing what I wanted, but it took more than a week for him to get back to me and then he wanted to meet again, evidently to give me the hard sell. In the meantime, I was able to reach Rick Pestana, whose name was given to me by a trusted friend. Rick had been on vacation when I started the search, but finally got the message and returned the call from Hawaii. I was told he was a moonlighter from a company that didn't want to work small jobs, but since then he has started his own company, Method Paving Inc. He was at my house almost as soon as he got off the airplane (well, give or take a night). Before he left, I felt like he was a member of the family. He said all the right things (like how he trusts his guys to think things through on the job and make suggestions), drew up a sketch of what he thought would look good in my yard, proposed the materials and worked up a bid. I was eager to sign. His bid of $14,000 was comparable to all of the completed bids I had gotten earlier. Work started the following Monday. I didn't have to pace around waiting for them to show up. Within 24 hours, all the offending deck materials and bricks were gone. The Portuguese crew members were happy campers to say the least, bringing their own crockpot of food to share and joyfully muscling recalcitrant concrete piers out of the ground and into wheelbarrows. I was sad to see them leave when their job was finished. They had created two tracks through the neighbor's yard, one in each direction, and they were a foot deep before the end of the week; but they did no damage to the yard otherwise. They even dug up the plants that were likely to get run over and set them safely out of the way for replanting afterwards. The next step was digging down a few inches, laying the base of mylar, which was then covered by wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of gravel, and then pounded into place by a hydraulic device that tested everyone's muscles. Then it was time for a layer of dark sand, which was meticulously shifted from one area to another in an effort to have the surface level but ever so slightly angled away from the house. The Latino paving crew was a bit less cohesive, but also a bit quieter. A couple of the crew members obviously had outstanding skills at recalling from memory the pattern we had picked -- a much less obvious pattern than I had seen in any of the sample photos. The lead paver's work was absolute perfection. My only moment of panic was when one of the crew bosses came along after the pattern was set and changed out pavers near the edges to facilitate the process of putting the "soldiers" in place -- the pavers that outlined the edge and were eventually set in concrete. I called Rick in a panic and he was there within 10 minutes, reassuring me that the guy knew what he was doing. Luckily, the pattern is so difficult to pick out that the changes are not obvious. I quickly learned that the crew members were mostly perfectionists. One newbie whose work was subpar was quickly found out and made to painstakingly redo everything he had done wrong. I could not have detected it. The final step was putting the sand between the pavers -- wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of it again -- and after it had been given a few days to dry, Rick's business partner Nathan returned to apply a fixer in a fine spray. It made the color come out a bit more (the photos in the promotional materials are less than accurate in that regard), and removes the need to push more sand into the cracks on a regular basis. There's so much more to tell, but this is most of it. Rick's crew did a fabulous job (even though they were simultaneously working on seven jobs at various stages of completion). The end result had the neighbor ladies squealing in delight at the prospect of the parties to come. I have nothing bad to report. The next-door neighbor's yard was restored to its former glory. When another neighbor complained about the dirty parking lot, Rick came back to help wash it down himself (unfortunately, the parking lot did suffer a lot of insults in the paving process and now does not look as perfect as it used to, but ... it's just a parking lot.)
Description of Work: Tore out two decks and the patio between them and replaced them with a stunning patio that makes the yard much more usable. Also, added a sidewalk to the gate and a circular area of interest (for lack of a better word) under the Redwood.
