Services we don't offer
We do not do lawn mowing, or regular, weekly garden maintenance services.
No pressure, very relaxed about the whole estimate process. Also indicated that they would be happy to bid out different jobs if we went with a different designer.

After four calls over the course of a month, we gave up trying to contact this company. I did contact this contracted through his main number & not through the Angie's List website as many contractors have told us contacting them through Angies List is a problem. But come on, thats your main number, the reasoning sounds flawed as to why we never got a call back. I am positive this was one of the contractors that contacted as we were using spreadsheets to keep track of what contractor we called & when to make sure we got enough quotes for the work.

We actually started talking to Scott in the fall of last year, thinking we would try to take advantage of the rebate for turf removal. As it turned out, Landscape Solutionshad so much of a backlog that they couldn't even get started before our 90 days (time limit imposed by rebate program) would expire. But since Scott understood so well what we were trying to do, we decided to go with Landscape Solutions, even though it would mean losing out on about a $2000 rebate. He even pointed out something we could do to the house to match the wall that would eliminate what we consider ugliest feature of the house (a real eyesore). No one else we talked to thought of doing that. To be honest, I was a little concerned at first, because the instructions the owner gave the crew didn't seem all that detailed, and I was worried whether it would turn out the way we wanted (this was a major project for us). These concerns were unfounded, as every part of the project came out even better than we had imagined. I know the foreman and owner have worked together for many years, so they probably don't need to use a lot of words to communicate. The wall is very well made and very solid - much more so than other walls I see in the neighborhood. And the combination of the ledger stone veneer and travertine wall cap is spectacular. I hadn't expected anything to be done on the inside of the wall, but they went to the extra effort of adding a thin layer of the veneer and stucco underneath that so we wouldn't see any of the cinder block. Many of our neighbors stop by and complement us on the wall, and for "beautifying the neighborhood". The crew was hard working, friendly and very helpful. What few concerns I had were things that they had already planned to address. I think the price charged was very fair. I'd been given quotes of around $100/ft for a wall like this and ours came out to around $110/ft. I'm sure you can get a wall built for less, but you wouldn't be as happy with it as with ours.
Description of Work: Built a cinder block wall with concrete footing and vertical and horizontal rebar. Faced outside with ledger stone veneer. Inside of wall had stucco applied and ledger stone to top 2" (the only part visible above grade). Travertine wall cap applied. Yard had remnants of lawn removed (turf was already cut out a few months ago), sheet mulched with cardboard, then 13 cubic yards of landscape soil added and graded. Front brick on house was chipped smooth, fake shutters removed, and then same ledger stone veneer as wall applied to bottom four feet, and stucco applied above that.
Extremely professional. Excellent work. Removed old paving, dirt, etc. laid underlay and compacted. Well organized. The yard is now beautiful.
Description of Work: Laid brick walk & driveway, laid artificial grass. Planted new plants. Removed old plants. Built fence around garbage area.

This provider's description says that they serve the entire South Bay. I sent them a request for an appointment, which was answered very promptly by Scott with suggested date & times. I accepted a date & time and sent him my address in Milpitas. Scott then sent me a curt response telling me that they didn't work that far North at this time of year. I responded that we weren't in a hurry and when would his company be able to work in Milpitas. Scott sent another curt response that they couldn't do the work till next Winter, and only then if business was slow and they wouldn't even do a bid till the Fall. Wow, by this time I got the hint that they didn't want to do our job. I was extremely disappointed since Scott's original email (which said nothing about the locale of the work) said that his company could do all of the rather large job that I want done. I believe it's very unprofessional to describe your work area as the entire South Bay, then reject work that's in the South Bay. I appreciate the follow-up response and upgraded my grades accordingly. I would just suggest that before suggesting an appointment time that the provider determine the location of the work. Also, I would have understood completely if the provider had initially taken the time to say exactly what was said in the follow-up. Both of the initial responses just felt curt and dismissive.
Description of Work: The provider rejected my request for a bid for work that is within his described work area.

Scott is wonderful to work with. He is very knowledgeable, gave good advice, and the project came out exactly as expected. The new landscaping was installed last summer and is still as beautiful now after a winter as when it was first installed. The price is reasonable for the work performed. It is possible to get lower bids from others but for a lower quality result. We would definitely hire Landscape Solutions again.
Description of Work: Converted landscaping to a more water-wise garden. Removed old lawn on corner lot. Installed new irrigation system for new smaller area of sod and for flower beds.

The contractor did send email. They responded fast to emails. They set up an appointment. They called me about an hour before indicating that he actually will run in this a little bit late. So, I did appreciate that. As far as punctuality, they were on time. They did contact me. He is very professional. I would definitely use them in the future. Price point wise, it's pretty comfortable to other places. Even though their price point was a bit high, it's the speeding that they can get the project done that Impressed me.
Description of Work: For landscaping, I think it was from candigit.com. He actually came out. It's called Landscape Solutions. They actually quoted me for a hardscape, landscape. They didn't perform the service. It was about pricing so we decided we're going to hold off but we would consider using him because of everything he showed us and the fact that he can get it done in a week for the total project we were looking at.

Working with Scott and his crew was a great experience from start to finish. The first thing I liked about Scott was how responsive he was to everything, whether it was over the phone or email. My job often makes email the best way to contact me so it was refreshing to work with someone that could accommodate that. No time was wasted at any point during our project. They started when they said they would start and worked every day until it was complete. The initial removal of the existing landscaping was done in about a day, which was amazing to me considering that most of these plants had been there for about 50 years. Every day we came home to considerable progress. Even the estimate was done within minutes of looking at the property. We weren't planning on doing pavers at this point but as we got further down the road planning the project it was suggested by Scott and the price was very competitive compared to what we saw from others. It turned out to be a great idea and the crew was meticulous in getting the pattern perfect and making sure every detail was what we wanted. The only challenging part of the project was choosing the final tree that was going to go in front of our house. We wanted a palm and Scott tried hard to find us one but there wasn't anything available that met our needs perfectly. We were being fairly picky and again Scott was extremely accommodating, including meeting me at a nursery on the weekend to show me options. We got what we wanted on the third try and we're very happy with it. We had a few things come up during the project that were beyond the crew's control and they were always very quick to return to the job site for a small fix or whatever we needed. As a designer, Scott had some great suggestions based on the kinds of plants we liked. We had to make some adjustments based on availability of plants but we're very happy with what we get to come home to every day. Having done similar work at two other homes in different states and having a lot of mixed experiences with bay area contractors (often too expensive and very poor at the communication side of things), I can say that Scott and his crew are the only company that I would hire again immediately. We plan to do our backyard at some point in the next couple years and Scott will be the first, and probably only, person I call.

It went very well. My yard looks like a park. Scott the owner designed a pond and waterfall that is exactly what I was looking for. His employees, Manual and Javier installed everything and took great care to make sure it was perfect. I recently lost my husband and they used a stepping stone we purchased in Carmel as a focal point in the waterfall. Makes it very special. I would use them again and recommend them highly.

The work went well and the system works. We are very happy with Landscape Solutions and will have them come back for seasonal checks of the irrigation system.
Description of Work: Scott assessed what needed to be done to revive our tired irrigation system. He explained everything thoroughly, including how long the job would take. His crew was wonderful. They were punctual and professional and kept me informed as to what was going on.
The job went better than I could have imagined. Scott understood the ?complete picture? of our ideas and goals and was really a partner in the project. Scott was available and responsive as-needed. He even spent two Saturdays with me touring a stone showroom and a nursery. He produced lighting and planting plans as a part of his included services, and has been endlessly patient with me as I wrestle with the plants or material selection for each area of the yard, often settling on his original recommendation. Scott is kind and understanding of circumstances, and easy to communicate with. Fiscally, his bid prices are inclusive of all the little details that I wouldn?t think of and even the unexpected details. I was never charged extra for anything that I was unaware of or disagreed with. Scott does NOT ?nickel-dime? you, which as the project unfolds and you see how much work is involved, I REALLY appreciated on a daily basis. We did have several pieces of the project that weren?t in the original bid that were done on a time and materials basis, which I think is a more expensive route, but fair overall. Scott?s workers are great. Both in the work they do and their personalities and attitudes. This turns out to be really important when they are at your house every day for 3 months! Eliobert, the foreman, was particularly remarkable. He and his team worked every day from start to finish of the project. He is a jack-of-all-trades, laying stone, installing lighting, welding, plumbing, grading for drainage, detailed building/woodworking? and he did it all well. I really am impressed how the same crew can do all the various jobs so well. I am very critical of workmanship, too! The few times that I questioned the quality of a job, they were either already working on improving/replacing/doing it over, or else happily obliged. Eliobert was often knocking on the door to ask me about each design decision?from exacting the curve of the planting beds, to walking through the neighborhood to look at gate examples, to precise placement of sprinkler heads, which I really valued. I usually asked?and followed?his opinion; he has a lot of experience and I really appreciated his input. I hummed and hawed over each decision, but he and his crew were endlessly patient. There were several instances where they had to undo and redo work that they had just done for one reason or another. It was all such hard labor; moving the same pile of dirt several times? taking up the bricks they had just laid? but the crew maintained a positive attitude and didn?t even slow down. I was thoroughly impressed daily. I now have beautiful front and back yards. Scott and Eliobert gently guided my decisions along the way, and we are SO happy with the outcome. I was incredulous of the bid amounts when we shopped our plans around, but now it is clear how much work is really involved; Scott was very fair in pricing. I will continue to use Landscape Solutions for our outdoor needs in the future (they can do pretty much anything!) and recommend them to neighbors and friends without hesitation. This happens often, as we receive complements from people walking by on almost a daily basis. Having fully renovated our last 3 homes, and have thus worked with countless tradesmen and work crews, I can say that Landscape Solutions has been one of the best experiences all-around. These are your guys!
Description of Work: Total renovation of our 4200 sq' lot. Unrelated house construction completely decimated our existing yard, so we needed to renovate the yard (front, back, side yards, and parking strip) sooner than we planned. We produced a conceptual plan with another design company, and Landscape Solutions executed the plan. With only a conceptual plan, however, all the details (and there were many!) were discussed and decided with Scott, the owner, and Eliobert, the foreman for our project. We hired a tree removal company to remove all trees from the property. Everything else was completed by a team of 3 from Landscape Solutions: Dirt grading and root removal Brick walkway, extensive brick planters, and brick foundation façade Complete irrigation system Complete lighting system Hauling organic and inorganic debris Amending soil New sod with gopher wire Installation of most plants Dog run area with appropriate rock and drainage Detailed front fence and gate Built back fence and gate to match existing plus 2 more matching side gates Built grape arbor Cement-set Connecticut Bluestone back patio and basement egress “Montana Stone” curved seat wall with raised planter behind Bluestone cap on seat wall; custom-finished edges Bamboo root barrier system Stucco foundation and interior walls of large basement egress Lighting plan/design Planting plan/design In addition to executing all these items, L.S. worked with the other house workmen: electricians, plumbers, builders etc to be sure that all various systems and aspects fit together seamlessly with the “finished product” goal in mind rather than what they may or may not be technically responsible for. This complicated and delayed L.S.’s job at times, but they were truly committed to “doing it right.”

We were very happy with the design when it was presented and how it turned out. All our issues got addressed and it made the whole property look so much nicer! Scott came by several times to discuss progress and made sure everything was finished to our complete satisfaction. His crew kept us abreast of everything they were doing and would be prompt in discussing issues that would come up and proposed solutions for them. We have enjoyed the new garden ever since and would certainly hire Scott again!
Description of Work: Scott came by to take a look at our garden, which had several challenges (sloping, lots of moisture during rain, very dry during summer, foliage from surrounding areas covering our garden. He came up with a great plan, addressing all our personal needs for our garden (e.g. vegetable beds) and explained how certain design choices would make the garden look better and how certain types of plants were better suited for particular spots. After we agreed (enthusiastically!) he brought in his crew to execute the plan.

As expected and promised. Scott was easy to talk to and work with through the project. He offered suggestions and has stood by the work. The sprinklers somehow clogged up at one point and he sent his team out to trouble-shoot and got them working again. We are considering having him come back out for some other minor improvments now that the lawn seems to have settled in well.

We had a large patio project that we'd been planning for a year, after we filled in the back yard swimming pool and were faced with a big blank space in the back yard. We worked with a garden designer for the patio design and then found Scott McIntyre through Angie's List to build it. Scott was very agreeable, had no problems with the design with and gave us a bid that was significantly lower than the other builder. He was also able to start the job quickly, so we chose him. He estimated that it would take a month to completion, but it actually took about six weeks due to changes we made in the process. We had two or three men who worked on our job who came Monday-Saturday and put in a full-day's labor. Manny, Javier and Albierto were very hard workers and very responsive to our concerns, though it sometimes took effort on our part to communicate with Scott. He was not always easy to contact, however he usually got back to us within 24 hours. He seems to be very busy, but I have to say that every question or concern that we had was taken care of, and Scott's usual response was "no problem," which turned out to be true. He and his team did a great job and we are very happy with the results. I would hire Landscape Solutions again if we ever had another garden job.
Description of Work: Demo of existing brick patio, installation flagstone patio, paths, and steps, built and stained a 16'x20' redwood pergola, built a small deck outside garden shed and put in a new window, installation of new redwood trellis, dug trenches for irrigation, electrical, and gas line to fire bowl, put in new irrigation for flower beds.

[member name removed], I apologize for missing your appointment. I normally do not schedule 6 hour windows for appointments but schedule my appointments at a precise time of day. I think I interpreted this as maybe a lack of priority or commitment on your part for the appointment (Milpitas is a long drive through pretty heavy traffic). Then as I was running out of daylight that particular day (we are VERY busy this time of year) I determined that I would need to reschedule your appointment but frankly forgot to call and do so. Please let me know if you wish to reschedule. Scott McIntyre Landscape Solutions (408) 226-3444 (CAN-DIG-IT) candigit.com scott@candigit.com

I am very happy with the work. The landscaper (Scott McIntyre) was very knowledgeable and professional. He was prompt in returning my calls. The hardscaping work was of high quality and shown an attention to detail. A one-year warrantee was given for all work. Admittedly, I thought the price was a bit high at first, but after it was done I was glad I chose them. I went with a cheaper landscaper nine years ago with the the same yard and was never really happy with the results. I believe the higher price is worth the comfort of knowing that the job will be done well.
Description of Work: In short, the landscaper completely redone my 500 sqft duplex back yard. The majority of the yard was covered with pavers with new plantings along the edges. Several trees and an old poured concrete patio had to be removed. The concrete step for the patio door was also demolished and rebuilt. Drip-lines and a timer were added. A small lattice fence was built around an AC air condenser to hide it. Pea-gravel was laid down along a narrow path along the side of my house.

Please see above description of services performed.
Description of Work: Gentlemen: I contracted with Landscape Solutions to build a deck adjacent to my home in the back yard beginning in October of 2011. They proved to be so incompetent that in January of 2012 they walked off the job after refusing to correct a number of construction errors discovered by an independent expert. I was forced to hire a second general contractor to replace and repair their work and a third contractor to replace the $5000 of tile ruined by Landscape Solutions, which I had originally purchased for that specific application. I am currently preparing for litigation to recover my substantial damages and they are represented by their own legal counsel as well. As a result of those circumstances I think it wiser to let the pleadings of the parties describe the positions of the parties when they are filed. In your specific questions above you insist on an amount spent but advise that if it is unknown that is represented by a zero. I inserted a zero because the consequential damages have not yet been fully tallied. However it presently appears to be in the mid five figure range, i.e. somewhere between $30,000 and $60,000. In your specific questions above you ask for either date work was performed or date of last contact. Since this contractor never has finished performing the work he contracted for I listed the date of last contact, which is the date of my last letter to his attorney. The time from January to July 2012 was a prolonged period of dealing with the contractors excuses for failing to finish the job properly as reflected in correspondence back and forth with his lawyer; the contractor himself or his men haven't been on the site since January 2012.
I got Ana's name from a friend whose yard she had done (and I had admired). At our first meeting, Ana came to my house and spent about an hour and a half reviewing plans I had drawn up by another landscape architect. The plans were too expensive and Ana had several ideas about how to reduce my costs without sacrificing my wants. I hired her and had no regrets. She was at my home every day during the project (which lasted about 2 months) to check on things, meet with the plumber or electrician or city inspector. Her employees were punctual, respectful and cleaned up on a daily basis. I really felt like Ana listened to me and understood what I wanted. The final result is beautiful and we have had many BBQs in our new backyard!
Description of Work: They completely gutted my backyard: removed a concrete patio and walkway; removed all of the old irrigation; dug trenches for electrical conduits and plumbing; regraded where needed. They built a new patio with pavers, a custom concrete seating area with low voltage lighting, and a custom BBQ island. They built retaining walls, trimmed tree branches, put in new drip irrigation and plants. Poured decomposed granite paths and resurfaced concrete steps with slate. Ana coordinated work with the plumber and electrician and secured all necessary permits.
