Description of Work: Demo-ed and replaced an exterior deck (approx 400 sq ft). Jon and his crew were simply outstanding in estimating, executing, cleaning-up aspects of this job. One is hard-put to assemble adequate adjectives to describe the quality of his work and the pleasure the whole family has experienced from his exceptional work and attitude. Bravo!

Description of Work: John Anderson Builds built a small patio deck (+-12x16) off the living room of my town home . I love the finished product and have had many positive comments from friends and family. | |The job went reasonably well, and the two young men who actually did the work were professional and courtesy. For such a small area, It was much more involved than I had realized as there had to be a tight framework built before the deck boards could actually go down due to the fact that I was using composite decking material rather than redwood. The framing took the better part of the first day, day two most of the deck went down, and day three was the finish work. When I went out to really inspect the deck, I discovered that one of the deck boards had been cut lengthwise, which was not ok because that left the core material exposed to the elements, and I feared problems down the line because of it. Unfortunately, this board was two or three boards out from the house, and when I asked the guys the reason for the half board, they said it was to allow sufficient space at the fence. I had requested that some space around the perimeter of the deck be left in order to accommodate future fence staining and house painting, but I did not specify a specific number of inches rather just left it in general terms. As a result, 99% of the deck had to be pulled up and redone. I know John was not happy about this, and I really can't blame him; however I just wasn't comfortable with a half board subject to potential failure that close to the house. A simple conversation/question asked would have eliminated that issue completely. Much to Johns credit, he was very gracious about it. John is not the best communicator and there was a goodly time delay between communications. My B rating is really for that reason and is really a B+ rating. Had the guys just asked if I was comfortable with a half board and John been more responsive, my rating would have been an A. Good communication between contractor (and the actual people doing the work) customer is critical and makes for a much more efficient, smooth end result. Everyday I smile when I look at the deck. A good decision and no regrets in hiring John Anderson Builds to do the job.

I contacted Jon after getting a recommendation and he nearly immediately set an appointment and we discussed what we wanted. Pricing was on target and competitive to the other bids that i had received. We scheduled the work, and everything started as planned. The carpenter who did our deck was excellent! We also had the deck stained several days later to bring out the grain in the wood more, and to provide some protection for UV and moisture. The results are fantastic! I highly recommend Jon Anderson Builds.
Description of Work: We replaced an old redwood deck with a new wood deck made from Tiger wood.

Pretty smoothly, the work was of good quality things were constantly moving forward. A few issues arose (of course) but were quickly and professionally dealt with. Some things were sub-contracted to workers which didn't have as high a standard as Jon Anderson himself, for the most part we worked through that by keeping a careful eye on them. One issue of leaking above the garage has come up since the job was done, and the builder has vowed to come back out and fix it up right.
Description of Work: Demo of old stucco, roofing, and exterior stairs. Roofing and waterproofing of garage and porch area. Complete redwood decking of over 1500 sq ft of porch and patio above a garage. Plan and construction of entire bathroom from studs to completion.

The project went very well. Jon and his workers were industrious, punctual, courteous -- nice people all around. Communication was not a problem and our suggestions were incorporated to our satisfaction. We are very pleased with the workmanship and are enjoying our beautiful new deck. We would definitely hire this company again.

This is the second time I used Jon Anderson to replace a deck. Once again the work was done in a professional manner. I did need to call him back to do some additional touch up work as well as to remove a block of cement left behind, which he did.
Description of Work: Remove and replace about 300 sq ft of redwood deck, including a step around the perimeter. Touch up stucco paint where the old deck touched the wall and the new deck did not.

Jon's team is prompt, clean, and very accurate. We were living in the home while the work was being performed, meaning we would have to exist around open walls, exposed wires and ceilings. The teardown occurred in one day, and when I returned from work his team had cleaned up the work area to the point we could walk around in our bare feet without fear of stepping on any building debris. The placement of headers and walls was quite precise, and during the process he checked in several times per day to make sure that when choices were to be made, we had a say in the decision. We made mid-course changes to the original plans, which Jon accommodated within our original budget (after much discussion). When the work was completed we immediately saw the ability to proceed with some other projects that had opened up as a result of the options our new interior layout gave us, and Jon has bid on those as well. When Jon left the site all work had been done exactly to spec, but more importantly, to our sometimes high and unreasonable expectations. I would use Jon for more work except that he is also the most expensive GC I work with in my area for my own home projects. Jon is brutally honest to work with. But in this case, the quality of the work justifies the cost, and I save my most sensitive projects for him.
Description of Work: Jon's team did the structural and electrical pieces of an internal remodel we did, moving several walls, installing headers, rewiring where necessary. I had used Jon in the past for other more major structural work including relocating bedrooms and bathrooms.
