About us

I specialize in House Calls on Grandfather Clocks. 90 to 95% of the time my House Call techniques fix the clock. In the case of a clock that is worn out or broken in other ways, further repairs or replacing movements are options. House Calls are scheduled at your convenience so my "hours" are "by appointment". I also offer local moving service for grandfather clocks and "lock down" and "set up" service for long distance moves. I am a one man shop. I do all of the work myself almost all the time. I do occasionally use other craftsmen for rebuilding movements, cutting gears, restoring dials or "casework" (repairing the wooden cabinet). I only use craftsmen who I am personally acquainted with and have a long history of providing the highest quality work. I consider it a privilege to do this work. It is usually more economical to replace rather than repair a battery operated clock.

Description of Work: I was looking for someone who would make a housecall to reassemble our antique (180+ years) grandfather clock after a move. We're a long way from Madison (Chicago area) but I called to see if Grandfather Clock Repair could recommend someone local. As it turned out, he was planning a trip to the area, and was able to schedule a visit for the coming week. He arrived on time, and our clock has now kept good time for the last 5 months. I should add that Bill went above and beyond by fashioning a missing part that was destroyed or lost in the move, all during a time when we had lost power thanks to a late summer mega-thunderstorm. I would definitely call him again, but we don't expect to need to, thanks to his excellent work.

Description of Work: Bill came to repair a Grandfather clock that was not chiming correctly. He found the problem and was able to repair it. He was a very nice person, did good work, and I would recommend him to anyone in need of this type of service.

Thank you for calling me in the first place. I am sorry that I was not able to help you. I did eventually call {removed member name} after I saw his review. The first thing that happened was that we both had trouble hearing each other on our cell phones so we both had to walk to better reception spots! I believe that the problem with my original lack of response to {removed member name} was a technical issue. I can assure everyone that my failure to respond was not intentional. I use an I-phone that is a couple of years old which has a good voice mail application and AT&T phone service. It is generally very good but it is not perfect. I have had the experience of getting a garbled message. Since I could not make out the message I called the number back and found that it was not operational! What can I do at that point except wait for the caller to try again? (this has only happened a couple of times). If you have called my business and I have not called back within a couple of days, please call me again! I check my phone for messages even when I am vacationing (sometimes I do go camping where there is no cell phone reception). The other ways that you can get in touch with me are via email at "grandfatherclockrepairllc@gmail.com" and via USPS at: Grandfather Clock Repair LLC, 1213 Melby Drive, Madison WI 53704. Please rest assured that I was respond as quickly as I can. I was happy to find out that{removed member name} was able to get is clock fixed elsewhere in spite of our communication issue. I know that people can go to someone else. My goal is to give the best service, and that certainly includes responding in a timely fashion when it is in my power to do so.
