Z Best Hardwood Floor

If I could give zero stars I would. Davis has work ethic is just as crappy as his workmanship. I reached out to several companies in August to help restore my grandmas work floors. His bid was more than the other guys but I really liked him and thought he was a good man. While chatting he told me about his dead wife, which later I found out that was ********.. we connected on our faith and I really thought I "scored" with him. At the time of meeting there was still some carpet on the floors but I had raised it so he could see the extensive damage. He was very clear that he could do the job and do the job right. Never once did he recommend that I replace the entire floor as being the only option, he made a passing comment but I said I wasn't interested if we could restore what we had. I made it known that I was going out of town and that I was not in a rush. He told me to have the house cleared by Sunday of that week. My husband and I spent the next few days making sure the house was cleared and the carpet was ripped out. After the carpet was ripped out I realized the floors were worse than I thought and I went ahead and sent him photos of the floors - his response is in the email screenshot below. Again, he did not recommend completely ripping out the floors and starting fresh. He did say that some wood would need to be replaced and that there would be some discoloration, I'm 100% ok with the discoloration - I actually kind of like it. He ended up replacing 25sq ft of flooring (or so he says) and I even allowed him to add baseboards - which I'll add her verbally quoted me one thing and charged me more. Before I leave out of town I give him $2000 cash for the deposit. He finished the job while I'm away. I pay him, site unseen, and additional $2500 via zelle. This is only because my bank would not allow me to send more. Leaving me with a balance of a little over $600. I get home a day or two later and see the floors. I'm heartbroken, I immediately contact him and send him videos and photos of the work and how unfinished it is. He strings me along for about a week and finally sends a guy to fix the baseboards and "add more color" to the cracks in the floors.. this takes two days and when it was done I just sent him the money even though I knew he truly didn't deserve it. We spent the next few weeks moving furniture into the home. I purchased large rugs so literally very little of the floor is exposed. We've lived in the home for about 30 days and the floors are falling apart. I dropped an ice cube on the floor and it ruined that part of the floor. The ice didn't even have a chance to melt but what little water that did get on the floor did crazy damage! I was very clear before work started that the floors need to be sealed. I have animals and kids, we can't have floors I need to baby.. accidents happen. He guaranteed me I'd be happy and asked me to give them a chance. Now here we are 30 days after moving in and I think I e given them a chance.. I wrote Davis an email this morning asking that he refund the floor refinishing cost. I'd work with him on the price but give me something back so I can put that towards new floors and he basically told me to F off! I included his email below.. but his response to my unhappiness about the floors was the rip out the baseboards and refund that cost. The whole situation is a nightmare and now I'm going to have to file a claim with small claims court as well as with the BBB and against his license. I'm not one to want something for nothing. I put my trust in him and he didn't deliver. He owes me this refund. My advice to anyone looking to get a floor is stay away from this company and Davis. we bought a house with painted floors. we were a bit suspicious as to why they had been painted and as we looked into more detail it turned out they were painted because they had been sanded too many times down to the tongue and groove. the floors needed to be re-done. we had multiple quotes. one of the top reviewed angles list flooring places came in and gave us an astronomical 15k dollar quote. another random handy guy gave us one that was lower. Davis came in and talked with us. didn't push us to lay new floor at all. said he'd be happy to try and save the old floor. we just decided to do the whole house new. and we are so glad we did. We have a friend had supposedly had the same floor installed in their house and ours look infinitely better. Davis had extensive knowledge about quality and beauty. he guided us through the process, and was very good at communicating that there was going to be some scuff marks and marks on our molding along the new floor. (they didn't beat the place up but ripping up 100 year old flooring is a tough dirty job and while they kept things clean it would be impossible not to leave some marks.) we were very happy they prepped us for that. Davis and his wife were so awesome and answered every question. we really trusted their judgment and experience which is rare with any contracting work for my house. I'm very aprehensive about others' taste. Davis advised us to forgo the poly layer over the floor. its basically like putting plastic over your furniture. you put down beautiful wood and then cover it with plastic poly? Doesn't make sense right? Davis understood that we wanted the natural beauty of the wood to show and to be felt. We used a rubio monocoat on a white oak floor. just a pure finish and they look absolutely amazing. he even had some ideas for and upgrade around the fire place with a nice walnut inlay that was a very reasonable upgrade. It was a stressful time. we had just bought a house and were crazy and kinda terrified but Davis was super awesome and really delivered. Highest possible recommendation for z best. husband and wife team. they do huge jobs for gymnasiums and businesses all over so cal. workers were professional. on time. and really worked their butts off. so glad we went with them.

After selecting Z-Best from the quotes we received (they were in line with the others, but we liked dealing with Davis and his wife), we scheduled them to come in 2 days after the close of our escrow on our house. Unfortunately, my escrow close got delayed by a day, then 2 days and finally a week. Z-Best was great about the three (maybe four) times I had to reschedule them and even offered to have their guys on call to come in and do the floors as soon as we got the keys. Their accommodating nature was hugely beneficial as it would have been a real pain to remove all of the furniture from the house after we moved in to have the floors worked on. In any case, they came in and applied the two coats of varnish over two days. Their employees were both punctual, polite and efficient. The floors look great! Thank you Z-Best!

The thresholds could have been better, I had to have them come back out to fix a couple of things they missed. They were on time, finished the job, did what they said they would do, but the follow up after could be better.

It was very good. They did a really good job refinishing and matched the wood for the new floor. They added baseboards to the new flooring that matched the old baseboard that was 80 years old. They were able to use a couple different kinds to make it look the same. They quality of the work was very good and the people that did the work were very good. We have really old floors so there was patching and matching stuff.
