Mike and his son are very qualified and experienced plasterers. They came in, covered everything and did what was asked of them. Their cleanup was meticulous and they were very pleasant people on top of that. I feel that when someone is in your home for even a few hours it's nice when they converse with you and fit in. Mike and crew was all of that. I got shuffled around once because he had a job that was bigger than he thought and had to change days, but that is too be expected. You could certainly find handymen and the like who will do it cheaper, but I do believe that you get what you pay for and Mike is a true professional and will give you a great end product.
Description of Work: Did some plastering around ceiling gang boxes, a small patch beneath a window that had some rain damage and some bubbling on our kitchen ceiling. Total time they were there was approximately 4 hours.

Well they did not do any work but based on their lack of response before and after the estimate that never came I probably wouldn't use them.
Description of Work: They took about a week to show up for an estimate. They looked at the plaster damage---about a 3 foot square area. The said it would take 6 hours to fix. They said they would send an estimate. They never did and I never got a call back. I guess the job was too small to bother. At this point I would have no interest in their response. Perhaps they have done me a favor as their estimate is sure to be excessive.

Called Plaster Master and made appointment to have an estimate. Our daughter lives in the house where the work was to be done, which meant I had to drive 25 miles, round trip, to meet them. They were supposed to meet me there at 1:30 pm and I waited until 2:00. They never contacted me to let me know they would be late, so I left the premises at 2:00. They phoned at 2:10 pm to let me know they had arrived. They must have just missed me, but because they didn't have the courtesy to let me know they would be late, I decided not to go with them. Had they called, I would have waited longer, because I know how bad the Los Angeles traffic can be.

The Plaster Master is very grateful the member did wait for us. The Plaster Master did inform the member we where driveing from Los Angeles a distance equal or more then the member. The Plaster Master regrets we did not call to let him know we where caught in traffic. To our disapointment he was gone. The Plaster Master is confident had the member had a few more minutes of patience he would be posting an A instead of an F.

The Plaster Master (love that name) is one of those rare, old-world craftsmen in an age of quick and dirty jobs. He DEEPLY knows surfacing products and how to apply them, but more than that, he loves his trade. He will enchant you with stories of the way things were done, while at the same time matching your vintage or modern home to make his modifications or repair appear seemless. I have had another contractor out at the house since his work here, and the guy immediately said ,"Is that repair work? Cause that is amazingly hard to get stucco to look that good for a repair..." He was efficient and communicated via SMS text, which for us is a huge plus in our busy lives. His estimate was spot on, and he cleaned the work area immaculately after it was done. I am very confident my house has now been sealed against the various bugs, rot, water, etc. that could threaten all that internal wood. And next time I need to resurface my house, he's definitely on the list to call.

They were prompt and courteous. Gave me an estimate of the hours to complete the project. They actually came in a couple hours under what they estimated and only charged us for the hours worked. The quality of the work is excellent. They also emailed pictures of the repairs when it was in progress so I could see what was below the old plaster. They were very meticulous in their cleanup afterwards. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to friends.

He seemed pleasant enough and had a wealth of knowledge to share. He looked at our exterior smooth plaster and started to tell me how I could fix it. Why would I fix it if I called him to do it? I thought this was strange. Then I was going to get some paper so I could write it all down. Then he told me he would email me the instructions. He never did. Then I wanted him to do some plaster work where our fireplace had been. He said he would email me the quote. He never did. I tried emailing him on his website email address and got an undeliverable message. I texted him and go no reply. What's the use of having a website if he has a non-functioning email address and doesn't reply to texts? I don't understand what kind of business is this? Just a lot of talk and no action. I wouldn't recommend this guy to anyone.

Response from The Plaster Master
The Plaster Master did meet the member and quickly informed him that the repairs was not a project he would want to do due to the scope of the repairs and the smooth troweled colored finish and proceeded to inform the member what was entailed in the repair that The Plaster Master was confident he would not be able to complete with the results that were expected.. The Plaster Master was not suggesting the member perform the repairs but only to inform the member of the difficulties of the work involved. The Plaster Master regrets that he did not send an email of what we spoke about or an estimate for the fireplace work and will look into why The Plaster Master web site was not responding to the members requests. The Plaster Master regrets the member did not appreciate the visit on a Sunday afternoon and all the knowledge that was shared with the member. The Plaster Master appreciates all opportunities to share his knowledge of 39 years of experience in plaster repair and have previous Angie's List members posting how willing we are to meet and share without reservations or expectations. The Plaster Master feels pain when he see's an F and STRIVES for the COMPLETE satisfaction of all whom call upon his services. Even a CONSULTATION and will strive even harder. The Plaster Master is grateful that his work completed has been appreciated and will continue to serve all who call with much enthusiasm.

He was really nice and helped us out. We had trouble with another plasterer and he gave us hints as to how to deal with the other plasterer. He was very helpful and he took a lot of time with us. He did not give us an estimate but he told us verbally and we could not afford him. I think that he is not cheap. We didn’t hire him. It was really big job. It was the whole house in terms of all the cracks and all the things that weren’t looked upon. I don’t know how much he charges but I would definitely recommend him. I think he is probably on the higher end, but I don’t have quotes. I think who we hired was not a plaster person and they really did not know what they were doing but we were able to manage after we told him what The Plaster Master had said. It’s amazing how they changed their tune about the job that they created for us and in that sense his input was quite invaluable.
Description of Work: We had a consultation with The Plaster Master. We have a house that was built in 1939 and we were having trouble as a contractor that we had hired for plumbing had removed all our texture and holes were punched out. We also had a lot of cracks in the ceiling and the walls and instead of recreating the existing texture of the house which we wanted to keep, they just removed the texture. It was not a happy time. When I complained to the contractor he said that there was no way that we could make it look like the way it did before. So, then we called The Plaster Master and he said that we could make it look like the way it did before and because he was able to tell us that it was possible we were able to get our other plasterer to do a better job.

Mike is great! I used him 2008 and asked him back when I needed wind damage repair to my ceiling. His prep and clean up were right-on and his work looks perfect. Mike charged a reasonable rate and didn't over-bill His response to my phone call was quick and he followed up all the way through to finish of the project. No delays, just great work for a fair price. He's really fun to talk to, too; not creepy at all and really smart.

The experience was great. I had Mike come give us a quote on the weekend, and I called him on Mon evening to book him - he started on Tues morning. Mike works with his 2 sons, and it was a pleasure working with them. They were timely, did a wonderful job with the plastering (I couldn't even tell that there were any holes in the wall before), cleaned up after the plastering, and were very professional. Our house was built in the 1930's and had detailed textured lath and plaster throughout the house. Mike told me he would be able to replicate that with no problem and he was absolutely right. His work is beautiful! Mike quoted me 8 hrs to finish the job. The job took him 11 hours, but he did not charge me extra and stuck to his quote. He is also very honest and responsible for his work. When he found out that one of the medicine cabinets was chipped in the box (fault of Home Depot), he went out of his way to buy a replacement so I wouldn't have to waste time buying a new one, even though it wasn't his fault. All he asked was that I reimburse him the cost of the cabinet. I give them my highest recommendation, and will definitely use them again. Thanks Mike!

My wife and I are first-time homeowners and I must say it was a relief to find someone like Mike through Angies' list. His craftsmanship is absolutely amazing and we couldn't have been more pleased with the way our walls look after all the extensive work we had done. Mike's passion for old houses and his job really show. In our case, his dedication was absolutely incredible. Because we had a firm move-in date and still had to have the walls painted after he was done, Mike came with his two sons on a Saturday and Memorial day to make sure he could finish as early as possible. All the formal rooms of our 1926 Tudor have a textured finish and Mike was able to match the texture perfectly. We knew we had made the right choice hiring Mike when the various painters who came to our house to give us estimates all started watching him work and invariably ended up asking him for his business card. Mike also took great care to protect the wood floors throughout the house before he started the job. In the end, we also appreciated the fact that Mike was also very accomodating with things we found after he had already started the job. I would recommend Mike to anyone looking for a custom texture match or more generally for work on an older home. He really is a master!
Description of Work: After we bought our house, we decided to get rid of all the knob and tube wiring and redo the plumbing before moving in. We hired the plaster master to close up the walls and ceilings of our lath and plaster house after the electrical and plumbing were brought up to code. Most of the work was done on the interior walls of the house. Some work was also done on the exterior stucco where the plumbers had to punch a few holes. Mike also removed an old wall unit in the master bedroom and patched up the resulting hole.

Mike and his crew were great. Their work was superb and they personally were delightful. Mike obviously loves what he does and takes a great deal of pride in the quality of his work. He was open and honest and was glad to show/teach me a good bit about plastering. Scheduling was relatively easy and they left the house cleaner than it was when they got there. I have to say that the $1200 was a shot to our wallet, but it was definitely fair compensation for the level of work they completed. These are repairs that will be around for decades, so it's best to get them done correctly the first time. As new homeowners, I'm thankful that my wife and I have been fortunate enough to find vendors like Mike to help us breath some life back into our classic house. If you have a plaster problem and need help, and if he's available, maybe you should hire "The Plaster Master". (sorry... i loved the A-team growing up).
Description of Work: We have a 1926 European Cottage style house, and we had to have all of the old electrical (knob and tube) removed and replaced with new up to code electrical. This led to quite a few holes in the original plaster walls throughout the house. I was really concerned about the finding someone who could match the original patterns in the plaster when patching these holes.

Mike David, "The Plaster Master" is honest knowledgeable and likes what he does. If you have damaged lime plaster ceilings this is the person to do the work. I purchased a 900 sq foot condo built in 1942. Plaster had separated from bead board along center line of ceiling at living room dinning room and entry. Walls were cracked at windows and archways. I interviewed several contractors. All but Mike wanted to tape and caulk. This would have worked for a year or two but eventually cracks would reappear because the underling problem (the separation of bead board from plaster) had not been addressed. Mike offered a permanent solution. Cut out the cracked plaster. Apply metal lath and lay in new plaster. Ceilings and walls would be restored to original condition. To save money we agreed he would only do the Living and Dinning rooms. But on the day he came it bothered him so much that we were not doing the entry that he fixed it for free. The extra work took Mike 6 hours. He had to come back the next day to finish it. Mike learned his trade from his father "Pops" who was himself a master plaster. Today he imparts these skills to him son. Virgina, his wife, runs the office. I was fortunate to have found Mike. I highly recommend him.

We have had a recurring problem with water damage for years in one corner of a bedroom in our 1926 bungalow. Because there was never any water or active leak to be seen no one (not roofers, not leak detectors) had been able to solve the problem for long. After the heavy rains earlier this spring we had the worst damage ever: not only were the plaster walls showing water damage but for the first time a section of the ceiling (approx. 1 foot across) caved in.While waiting for the roofer to make yet another visit we selected the Plaster Master based on his reviews on Angie's List. It took approximately one week to get the work scheduled.Once the crew began pulling out the damaged plaster they found that the lath behind it was also soaking wet. So they had to pull that out as well. Once the wall and that section of ceiling were open they actually climbed on the roof (it's a one-storey house) with a hose so they could pinpoint the source of the leak. It turned out to be the scupper. They pulled it out, removed all the old and failed caulking, concreted it in, and then did a second water test to show that solved the leak. The roofer, who happened to arrive while all this was going on, agreed that this had indeed been the source of the leak. The Plaster Master and his crew also found some dry rot damage to one or two of the studs, hardly surprising in an 80 year old house. They next day they rebuilt the wall and replastered it to match what had been there before.I am going to wait a few weeks before repainting to make sure the walls are completely dry, but I am optomistic that I won't have any more water damage in that corner.

The Plaster Master is a true craftsman! He did an excellent job removing and filling in an old obsolete doorway in my one story 1924 California bungalow. My biggest fear with this sort of job was that you would be able to see an indentation where the old doorway had been -- Michael did an outstanding job matching and blending the new wall into the original 1920s plaster. Michael is very friendly, down to earth, honest and hardworking. He was quick to respond to my initial email and came out and gave me an estimate right away. Unfortunately, I was not able to do the work immediately -- but when I contacted Michael over a year later, he honored his original estimate. Overall I am very happy with the work performed and I would not hesitate to recommend The Plaster Master!
Description of Work: Remove doorway and replace with solid plaster wall. Work included: •Removing old doorway (door, casing and framing) •Installing framing studs, drywall and paper backed metal lath. •Applying basecoat of gypsum plaster over metal lath and finishing with a smooth finish coat to match existing texture of surrounding wall. During the process, furniture was covered and floor protected. Afterwards, the work areas were cleaned up and debris was hauled away. The whole process (not including drying time) took 1 day.

The plaster master is indeed a master of plaster. He came and bid the job on a Sunday and was back Tuesday morning to complete the entire job by 5 pm, including taping off all surfaces ahead of time and cleaning up afterwards. In between Mike was instructing us on the various steps and techniques he was using. Its obvious that Mike loves what he does and its a pleasure to see a craftsman so dedicated to his craft. It was an informative and enjoyable experience from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Mike removed about 100 SF of previously, poorly repaired interior plaster in the dining room of our 1925 spanish revival home, including a portion of a coved ceiling. He relathed the wall, applied scratch, brown and finish coats, resulting in a smooth finish plaster wall, and then applied a daub finish using great care and time to match a unique historical finish on the wall and ceiling.

Mike the Plastermaster was outstanding in every way, and helped make the major renovation of our new house a success. We have an architectural post and beam house built in 1959. It had acoustic (popcorn, asbestos) ceilings throughout the interior, including some water damage and poorly done repairs to fix that water damage, as well as many other major issues which needed repair and/or replacement. After the asbestos acoustic ceiling was removed, we needed a great deal of repair to our plaster ceiling and walls. We looked on Angie?s List, and the one and only plasterer who replied was Mike, the Plastermaster. He came out the first Saturday after his call to do an estimate, and we immediately felt that he was the right person to do the job. He gave us our first suggestions about how to do the work, and spent lots of time discussing with us the pros and cons of the different ways we could address the various repairs that were needed. He repaired and finished the ceilings and many wall problems, all with the skill of a master who knows his craft. He has an artist?s eye toward each project, including colors, textures, and the best ways to make each room better. He was able to fix the many issues in the ceiling once the asbestos was removed, including a large wave in the ceiling of the living room. He worked with us to keep the costs down, recommending less expensive ways to fix problems if they were available. Mike is a master craftsman, and works with and teaches his craft to his sons. They were all cheerful, helpful, on time, and responsible. He also recommended painters and an electrician who were cut from the same cloth ? each of the people he recommended was every bit as good as he was. His character, friendliness, and support in a time of great stress for us were truly wonderful and helpful to us. Mike and family have been a true pleasure to work with.

Mike and Virgina provide great customer service. I have not seen this level of customer service in quite sometime. They always kept me informed if dates or time had to be changed. Mike, has a wealth of information from his experience and shares this freely. He provides detail information of the best paints to use and how important the preparation of the surfaces are to achieve a quality finish to last for a long period. I was so pleased with his work I referred him to a neighbor who was walking by while Mike was working at the home. I would recommend The Plaster Master to anyone. He is truly what is company name implies "The Plaster Master"!! A Craftsman!
Description of Work: Mike, Carlos and Mario repaired cracks in the kitchen ceiling and also repaired areas of stucco outside the home. They repaired outside stucco in which a hole in the outside wall about 2' x 2' was left after some plumbing repairs were required. All working areas were covered in plastic / paper. This was done to not damage cabinets and eliminate dust into other living quarters. They cleaned up and even washed down the outside areas leaving the property just as cleaned prior to the job. The work entailed about 6 hours.

Response from The Plaster Master
It's unfortunate that the member felt compelled to submit a report on work that was not going to be performed by The Plaster Master. The Plaster Master was under the impression there were exterior repairs to the home. The members work turned out to be a complete re-stucco. As mentioned on Angie's List The Plaster Master does not re-stucco homes. At this point member still requested a rough estimate for a re-stucco. The Plaster Master's last re-stucco was indeed for a "celebrity" but spoke with the member about the uniqueness of the texture he had completed for said celebrity, not using prepackaged stucco but traditional cement and sand mortar to achieve a classic texture and not the common “lace”. To clarify about our late arrival, when the appointment was made we informed the member that she would be the last of several appointments that day and we would call her if we ran late and when we were on our way to her home, which was of some distance. We actually called the member twice, first to let her know we were running late (she said that was fine) and when we were actually on our way to her home. The Plaster Master regrets her anger for not being able to provide an estimate within the members budget.

Awsome! After reading there reports on Angie's List, I was very impressed so I called them and made an appointment and Michael and his wife came out on a Saturday to look at the stucco I needed repaired. They were right on time and so easy to talk to.We made a verbal agreement $1100.00 we felt very comfortable and trustworthy with them. He said they could do the work Tuesday and start at 9:00a.m. On Tuesday morning they called that they were on there way and would be running a little late. Michael and his 2 sons showed up and went right to work. What can I say, the boys were great they did a fantastic job and Michael is a true CRAFTSMAN.At the end of the job he discounted the amount owed by $100.00., because they got the work done quicker than he thought, can you believe that! Of course I refused the discount they totally deserve the price he charged us, we are extremely happy with The Plaster Master. Truely the Plaster Master
