We used him a few times because he kept coming back for other things. I have nothing to compare the price to. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: We had some built-in screen doors and French doors, and a couple of them came off the track. He fixed that. He also fixed some doors swelling. He also shaved down a drawer that was also sticking.

They charged $95 per hour. The handyman had a difficult time, to remove the old knob. He tried a cutting plier, which didn?t work, later he started to use an axor blade and still do anything. Then the owner called as I was not happy, with the job. The owner then agreed to compensate with half hour?s price. I was very unhappy and will never use their services again.
Description of Work: I used the services of Swiss Handyman to replace a door knob, 2 months ago.

The price was a little expensive for the work they wanted to do. I didn't have them continue the work. I wasn't happy with the work they did. The quality of their work turned out to be different than what we had been led to believe. I don't think that they were totally prepared for the work. I wouldn't recommend using them. I thought they were overpriced. I wouldn't use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced an exterior door and some other things around the house.

Response from Swiss Handyman
Dear Member, This is Arnold answering. As you know, I am the owner and General Contractor of Swiss Handyman. I was personally at your house several times going over the scope of the work and what your exact needs were as well as what our rates are so that you would know what to expect. You were fully aware of our rates before we started the work. We also gave you our wholesale supplier so that you could get your door at wholesale cost to save on expenses. We removed the existing door and the window above the door and then installed the new door and made the custom window above it. As you know we stand behind our work 100%. The door lock you purchased turned out to be faulty. Because of this, we removed, returned and reinstalled the lock two times since the first repair by the manufacturer didn’t work. We did this both free of charge (a total of about 4 hours of work and 56 miles driven) to make sure it was working for you. This is already above and beyond what we normally do. Typically, when there are faulty materials we split the cost with the customer as it is neither the customer’s nor our fault and although most warranties normally cover the parts, they won’t typically cover labor. After the door was installed, I personally came to look at it and speak to you. You assured me then (that’s a year ago) that you were happy with the work we had done. It is startling that we did not hear from you for a year and then find this review on Angie’s List. We would have been happy to correct any of our work that you had not been 100% satisfied with, free of charge. Sincerely, Arnold

Their quote amount was way too much. Handyman for me is someone who doesn't charge but he is charging like a $100 an hour or something like that. That is no handyman. We tried to stay under a contractor but he is more than a Handyman. The other people were too expensive. Then I found someone else through a friend, I had a problem with the door. Both of them said that you have to shape the door and fix the door frame. The third guy came out and said it's the hinges right here, and asked to just hit the door and hinges and it would fit in the door way better. He showed me exactly the problem and I couldn't believe it. As far as I am concerned either they didn't diagnose or they were not been truthful with me to get a better salary. I was not happy with either one of them. He is just charging way too much, especially for labor. He is not good because I don't think he diagnosed the problem properly, I think it had to do with the hinges. When someone pointed it out to me and I actually saw the hinges I was like why didn't Swiss Handyman see that! I tried the handyman and the construction people and their prices were similar. Handyman is more of a construction guy, not a necessarily a handyman. I was not happy with them at all. Handyman took a while to get back to me after he came over here. They seemed professional, but when a third person came and pointed out the hinges, then I would have to question their professionalism.
Description of Work: I had Swiss Handyman give me an estimate about a month ago. I had a problem with the doors. There is a back door that I am having trouble closing, may be a little bit of water damage on some of the other back doors that I am having trouble closing.

Dear Member, You called our office January 10, 2011. We went over our rates with you on the phone and then sent a follow-up email with the rates immediately after your call. The next day, January 11th, Arnold went to your home, looked at and right there gave you some solutions to your situation with your doors. We did not do any work for you. (And, thus we respectfully request you to please correct the error in your report that states we did do work for you.) We are a Licensed Contractor company. (By law, no individual or company is allowed to do over $500 of work including materials without a license.) One of the things our customers appreciate about us is that, although we are a Contractor, we do all the handyman size jobs in addition to the larger jobs. We have often heard that it is difficult to find someone who will do the small jobs. Our services are not and never will be the cheapest for numerous reasons. Besides being licensed, we have Worker’s Comp as well as Liability Insurance. We only employ well-rounded, Professional Technicians. As you can see by our excellent ratings of nearly all A’s and Page of Happinesses by people we do the work for, we definitely deliver high quality service and we stand behind our work. Our rates reflect all of these factors. We hear over and over how one gets what they pay for. And, in fact, we often wind up having to fix the work of less competent companies. We would never consider “hit the door and hinges” a solution for a door. When we fix something, we look for the source of the problem and implement the solution that will actually correct that so the problem doesn’t happen again. We sincerely hope you found someone who can give you a long-term solution for your doors. Regards, Swiss Handyman

Very well, I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They did a variety of jobs for me from July through October of 2010...they installed window screens, a closet pole, replaced a light switch, replaced an air conditioner, completed installation of a bathroom fan & heater (which was started by another contractor who did a poor job), replaced a bathroom tub faucet valve handles & stems, ripped out my old carpet for me, and fixed the springs in my garage door. They do a very good job and are very professional. The prices are a tad higher than I would like, but they are good and you get what you pay for.

Arnold was flexible and I would say the best thing about him is you can talk to him about any detail concerning the job. He did supervise his people and that is very important since you don't want the supervisor to show up one day and disappear for the rest of the job. So I would say he is very considerate. They worked very hard and I would use them again.
Description of Work: First: THANKS ARNOLD! We asked them to complete the flooring in our utility room that had already been started. They finished laying down some vinyl planks for us and did a really good job and we are very pleased with it. We also asked them to do a custom vanity for our small utility room bathroom. Arnold Huber came in with some brochures and discussed with us our options as to the type of wood, color, style, etc. We discussed the number of drawers, dimensions, style and color. He offered suggestions on the vanity counter top, including the bathroom mirror and Arnold thought a beveled mirror might look nice and it turned out to be one of his best suggestions! He gave us a time frame for when it would be finished and it was completed on time. We appreciate the time he came to discuss the particulars of this project. When Arnold came over to show us the completed drawers we were very happy with the wood finish! He had also suggested a little feature on the drawers where with a little push, it would automatically close shut. And we are glad now that we decided on a custom cabinet (it's a lot more expensive though then if you just went with an "off the shelf" vanity at Home Depot). They also did the installation and at first there was some difficulty putting it in, but in the end they were able to get the cabinet into our small bathroom.

My front door was old--rain and valley sun had caused swelling and shrinkage, and I needed to replace it with something sturdy and well-sealed. Rico the handyman came out and agreed that the door needed to be replaced. I suggested a steel or pre-primed wood door from Home Depot. Rico and later a project manager who called from the office said it would be better to get a solid wood door from Swiss Handyman's preferred door supplier--that any money I saved from choosing a Home Depot door would cost me in time Rico spent trying to get that door installed just right. So I thought, OK, I am going to get a really nice door, and it is going to cost $750. Swiss Handyman took care of ordering the door. I paid the door supplier by credit card, and the new door was delivered the day before the installation. At the appointed time, Rico brought all the hardware and spent about 3 (maybe four) hours cutting, sanding, and installing the door. He did a solid job installing the door. The only thing that went wrong was I stupidly assumed he would be painting or at least priming the door, since I had suggested a pre-primed door and they had talked me out of that. About halfway through the installation, I asked, Rico, are you going to paint this door? He told me I would be much better off getting painters for that--their hourly rate will be much less. So I spent the next three weekends priming and painting my $750 door. I have a really nice door now, but what a pain in the a**.
Description of Work: Swiss Handyman ordered and installed a new entry door for my condo, including new hinges. They also installed lockset with handle/knob that I had purchased beforehand. The door was $400 and the installation was $350.

Dear Member, We are glad that you were pleased with the installation of the door and are happy you would use us again. Our understanding regarding the replacement door was that you desired to have the exact same door you had before. We went to great length to locate the manufacturer who carried that specific door - getting pictures and information from your door to make sure it was the exact same one. We did not charge you for the time it took to locate it. And, since we do not mark up materials, you got the door at our wholesale cost. The reason your door does not come primed or painted is because yours is a high quality door which comes Stain-Grade (since some customers like to stain it to show the wood). We’re sorry if there was a misunderstanding about priming and painting it. We can definitely do the priming and painting but somehow Rico understood that you wanted to save on the expense. Some customers want the quality door and installation but do not want to also pay for priming and painting and we respect their wishes. In the future, please let us know you definitely want us to do it for you; we will be happy to accommodate you. Sincerely, Swiss Handyman

We returned from vacation to smell wet wood and find the cabinets under our sink warped by a week of dripping pipes. We intended to get bids from several contractors, but were so impressed with Mr. Huber's professionalism and thoughtfulness about our options, that we hired him on the spot. We were not disappointed. The cabinets not only look like new & blend perfectly with the cabinets that did not have to be repaired, but the sliding cabinet that holds our kitchen trash can actually works better than it ever did. The work was done in a timely fashion and within the budget promised (not cheap, but what we had agreed to). As a final touch, Katrina--the "artist" who came to match colors and stain the cabinets--noticed that our bathroom vanity cabinet was old and showing considerable wear & tear. While we were not home, she re-stained that cabinet, which was not part of the contract, at no extra cost. What a nice surprise! We would definitely use this wonderful team again.

Arnold's team was prompt, professional, and courteous. Since it was a large job, it spanned a period of about 5 weeks, although the team did not come each of those days. After installation of the dish washer and faucet, there was a water leak, which Arnold's team returned to fix immediately. The kitchen now works great and looks beautiful. The experience as a whole was quite satisfactory, and we would definitely use them again. They are trustworthy and they stand behind their work. They do charge by the hour, so whatever preparations you can make to ease the process will be beneficial.
Description of Work: The Swiss Handyman remodeled our kitchen, including plumbing and electrical modifications, installation of lighting (overhead and under the cabinets), cabinets, and appliances (dish washer, garbage disposal, water filter, range hood). They also installed a door, finished the molding on 2 windows, installed the hardware, and painted the room.

Was a two person job and price higher than I expected. Shelf was put up in wrong place and had to be remounted - which they did and didn't charge me for the extra time. They showed up when they said they would, got back to me quickly with a very fair quote, started their work the next day and moved quickly and were flexibly in changing the scope of work as unanticipated additional details arose (like hardware for doors arrived late and they went and picked it up and installed it the morning of my inspection so that everything passed. Liza maintained regular contact with me by phone and e-mail several times a day as we were on a tight schedule. All the workers were friendly and professional.

1. Had no problems with the tub so far 2.There was a problem with the sprayer on the new faucet. Water sprayed everywhere underneath my sink anytime the water was on. I called them the next morning they came over right away to take a look at it. They took it down to Home Depot and got me a replacement sprayer. When the problem turned out to be a manufacturer's defect Arnold still found a way to fix it. 3. Rico did an amazing job with the door. He even repainted places where he had to sand some of the door down. I'm definitely planning on using them again!
Description of Work: I had the Swiss handymen do a few jobs for me because they charge by the hour with a 2 hour minimum. Arnold and his assistant came for the first 2 jobs. Rico came a few days later for the last job 1. They re-caulked my tub that was leaking down through the ceiling anytime the shower ran 2. I had them replace my kitchen faucet 3. We have had problems with our front door knob falling off. We paid a previous handyman to fix the problem, but it didn't take. In this case, Rico repaired the doorknob, but it only lasted for about three months. When I called Arnold from Swiss Handyman back, he had Rico come out and replace the doorknob at no further charge. Rico also put in a support beam of wood on our swingset for free. So I would say that I was extremely satisfied with this service call!

Overall, it was a very, very satisfactory experience. The handyman arrived on time, he was friendly and professional and he did a good job. Later that day, I noticed that the garbage disposal pipe that had been fixed was still leaking. I contacted Swiss Handyman's office, described the problem and asked for immediate help because this was the type of problem that could cause a widespread leak across my kitchen floor and then down into my basement. Arnold came over that evening and repaired the leak. He explained that the handyman that had come earlier in the day had made the proper repair, but a tiny fragment of dirt trapped in the valve was the cause of the leak. I have already contacted Swiss Handyman about another, more extensive repair to be performed at my house and I intend to hire them. I have had uneven experiences with handymen in the past, and I would say that finding Swiss Handyman on Angie's List has been a very welcome find and I strongly recommend them.

Saw Swiss Handyman on Angie's List. I always call the listings that have lots of positive feedback. Arnold (Swiss Handyman) was quick to respond. He and his co-worked Rico (also a nice Swiss gentleman) came out. Rico built a great cabinet in ONE DAY! It looks fabulous. I've always wanted a cabinet on our patio (for storage inside and to use as a buffet on the top when we have parties). We recently had our kitchen renovated, so i had the granite guy use the extra granite for a top. Just needed a sturdy cabinet underneath the granite. Rico did a fabulous job! Can't wait 'til I can get some more money--there is so much stuff I'd love to have built (bathroom cabinets/vanity, shoe storage, etc.). So, thanks Swiss Handymen--you ROCK!

They were very clean, prompt and did a good job. The only down side was that they gave me an estimate and then wanted to be on an hourly rate. I don't know if it was a communication issue but I told them we were doing it for the original estimate. There wasn't an argument over it, I just thought the were giving me a fixed rate and they thought I was getting generic estimate. There wasn't a problem and I would use them again. I thought the price was very fair.

Arnold (and his number one assistant, Rico) have done a number of things around my house that have helped bring it in to the 21st century. After purchasing a 1950's home in the San Fernando Valley, we had a long list of improvements we were looking to have done, and Arnold was able to handle just about all of them. Helpful, pleasant, and a true joy to work with, I've hired Arnold and Swiss Handyman again and again, because they won't disappoint. One note: Arnold may be a bit more pricey than some of the other handymen on this list, but if you want the best, you have to be willing to pay for the best. And the number of times I've rehired Arnold (multiple!) should tell you what I think of his work. I'd rather pay a little more up front and get the job done right, than have someone do the work more cheaply, and then have to have it fixed later.
Description of Work: Multiple handyman jobs around the house, including installing and running cable for two big screen TV mounts, reworking dryer venting, installing recessed lighting, adjusting shower head height, fixing gates, installing locks, fixing doors, etc.
