Stan's Tech Garage

Wonderful! My laptop had been maddeningly slow for months; the Mac Genius Bar suggested I add memory because the newest operating system uses a huge amount. I ordered the memory and brought it and the laptop to Stan's for installation. Stan immediately recognized the problem, said he sees this a lot, the problem wasn't so much the memory as the hard drive - the new Mac hard drives are solid state and much faster. After speaking with him I decided to have a new solid state hard drive installed as well as the memory upgrade. I appreciated the fact that there was no hard sell. Stan offered to waive the separate charge for the memory installation. The work took less than a day, and my computer is literally five times faster. I thought I needed a new laptop ($1,800) but all I needed was Stan's advice and a $350 upgrade. I got a really good vibe from them, they radiate honesty and I was comfortable leaving my computer - and all of its information - with them. Will absolutely use them again and very happy I found them.

Good service, did more than expected, very knowledgable, professional, and helpful

They were excellent. They diagnosed the problem quickly, gave me an agreeable time period for getting the job done. They were able to complete the service the same day and had my computer all charged up.

I found Stan and his Garage about 6 months ago, when I wanted to get two of my laptops a serious tune-up. I had a longtime computer repair shop that changed ownership and went downhill, so I decided to look around. I liked Stan's website, and he was in my neighborhood, so I thought I would give him a try. BOY, am I glad I did! Stan is a real expert, with a real passion for his field. But he doesn't hide behind geek-speak. He listens to you, and talks you through options in a friendly, no-pressure way. Then he does what he says he will do, at very fair prices, and on-time. At this point I have also purchased a new laptop thru Stan, based on his reading of how I used my computer and what my expectations were -- and he was spot-on about the one he recommended, and configured for me. I've also had a couple tutorials from him on both hardware and software. He's a patient, clear teacher who doesn't overwhelm you with jargon, and leaves you feeling more in control of your stuff -- including other gizmos like phones, TVs, etc. I've heard Stan talk-the-talk with serious IT enthusiasts, and you'll find some great reviews on Yelp that speak more to his broad expertise. For the rest of us, he's an honest, friendly guy who can fix what's broken and help negotiate the maze of technology that is now part of life. There are several small business owners in my 'hood (Nancy at Four Seasons Cleaners, Norm at Norm's 76 service station) who make this big scary city seem more like a small town. Stan is now one of them, for sure. And so are his Customer Relations staff -- two friendly rescue dogs who will greet you with wags from behind the counter -- or come out for a more serious greeting if you're a dog-person like I am. And there's PARKING! PARKING!! I like this place.

After having a Roadrunner tech attempt (unsuccessfully) to install wireless network for my new desktop PC and 2 older laptops, then purchasing adaptor and new wireless router as recommended by Dell, then attempting (unsuccessfully) to install the wireless network myself with the new parts, I called Stan's Tech Garage. One of the selling points for me was that they are open on Sundays. I reached Stan immediately on Sunday at noon and explained the primary problem regarding the wireless network and inability to include my new wifi printer in the network. He quoted a price of $179 for installing the wireless network for however many computers we have. He said he would bring a low-cost adaptor if I wished to purchase it from him so I could return the more expensive adaptor I purchased from Dell. Stan arranged for another technician to come out later that day, then promptly arrived himself at my house at the agreed-upon time. He installed the wireless network including the printer and got it working on all of our computers (including Mac and microsoft windows laptops). He didn't need any of the parts I purchased from Dell on Dell's salesman's recommendation for the wireless installation. (These parts totaled 2/3 of Stan's cost to do the wireless installation and will be returned for refund.) He then checked for internet speed and security on all computers. I was unhappy with my McAffee security system which was not synching with my new computer. He recommended another security system that he has found to detect viruses on computers that were missed by the popular computer security systems, so I bought the program and he installed it. He cleaned my PC and deleted some unnecessary virus scanners and other unwanted clutter. He recommended that I get some sort of back-up system, explained the various systems, and installed a simple, low-cost system that operates automatically so I don't have to do anything to back up my documents, outlook, etc. I have hired no less than 7 computer repair "experts" over the last 4 years and have never been satisfied with the service. The search is over; Stan is a computer wizard. Plus he has an excellent IT resume, is smart, courteous, professional, and is certified in both Microsoft and Apple. I will definitely be seeking his services again for future computer repair needs and to install a home theater system. He does in-home computer/sound repairs/installation as well as in-store work on laptops and PCs, etc.
