SoCal HVAC Specialist Heating & Air Conditioning

First off, I kept having to call because my calls were not getting returned, bu because his reviews on AL were SO high, I was persistant. I figured he was just super busy, or a problem with my phone line. Well, today I called another provider who immediately answered the phone with a "please hold" no "hello, thanks for calling, can I please put you on hold, I'll be right back" or whatever, just "please hold" ugh. I hung up after 30 secs and decided to wait. I actually wound up using their web site, clicked though the form to please give me a call. John called me in less than 15 minutes. Sure enough *they* ARE having trouble with their phone line and had not rec'd my messages. So if you've called and didn't get a call back, try the form on their web site. Now on to the main attraction: As with others, John walked me though some stuff to check before coming out, that is nice, not everyone will do that, and I appreciated it though in my case he did wind up coming oiut. He was very accommodating with my schedule and came at the time agreed! Very nice and professional, he checked my system, and found there was a loose wire in my furnace, so the AC wasn't getting power. How the heck that happened I don't know, but it was a quick fix once diagnosed. He only charged me for the service call. While he was here I asked him to take a look around at the ducts in the house since one south facing upstairs room does not cool adequately in the summer. He took a look and gave me a rough estimate. I don't have the means right now because it's going to be a bigger job, but once I do, I will definitely give the job to him (if he wants it). So glad I was persistent, no fault to him as it was a problem with At&T (which I've had too, so I totally know how THAT goes)!

I trust him. He came over to fix something on my air conditioner once, and only charged for the wire. His pricing is very fair. He is very quick and on time. I trust him with all of my air conditioner needs. I will continue to use him.

My air conditioner stop working just when the heat wave strike. I called another contractor and they want over $100 just to come over and check out the problem. I called John and he was able to came over later that morning. He was very nice and spend an hour diagnosing the problem. At first he was afraid that the motor may be defective and replacing could be expensive. Luckily it turns out my filters were very dirty and burns out the capacitor. He happened to have a new capacitor in his inventory and so he replaced it. I cleaned out my filters and the air conditioner has been running well so far. John is very helpful and I appreciate his honesty and professionalism.

I really like the owner of the company. He is a really good guy. He has helped us out, before we got the new a/c unit. He would come out over the weekend if our old unit was broken.

Phone contact was excellent. John told us to simply take out the filter and see if our heat pump would work. If so, all we need is a new filter. That did not work so we called hm back. He scheduled for the next day and arrived promptly. He inspected the unit and told us that after 16 years or so of use it probably needed replacing. However, he gave us an option of a freon recharge and sealant and told us it might give us a few more months with the unit, or it might not work, just leak out again. We thought it over and called him again to schedule the work he suggested. He fit us in the next day. So far the unit is working, but we understand that we will probably have to replace it next Fall or Spring, when we can do without it for a couple of weeks, while it is being installed. John has the technical skills and professionalism that we will use again when we decide to schedule the replacement work.

This conversation went very well and Mr. Farrugia is "one in a million" as they say. I hope to use him in future.

It has been a hassle to change the filter in the hallway return vent because the old grill could be removed only by taking out 8 screws. A huge inconvenience! The new return grill installed can be opened for a filter change by simply unlatching a lever. John from Home Comfort also spent a lot of time figuring out the source of the gurgling sound in our a/c system whenever we turned on the a/c. He looked to the simplest (cheapest) solutions first and then finally installed a trap in the a/c system to try to remedy the noise. He also checked the overall health of the a/c system and everything seemed to be fine. After the trap was installed, the gurgling continued and It turned out that the noise was due to a faulty installation of the a/c unit in our attic which was installed and titled the wrong way when our condo unit was built 13 years ago. There was nothing that can be done to straighten out the unit since it is integrated to the structure of our condo. Luckily, the gurgling sound is not that loud to drive us nutty. But, with John's patience and efforts to isolate and find the source of the problem, at least we know that the overall a/c system is operating as well as can be now that summer is here. John did an excellent job for us and we appreciate it a lot! PS: John also made sure to wear "booties" (shoe covers) to keep our carpeting clean when he was working in our home. A big plus for all of us who have had service people visit!

Our furnace was red-tagged by the Gas Company after a plumber inadvertently broke the furnace vent and we shut off the gas. It had multiple serious problems that we hadn't been aware of: neither the vent nor burners nor emergency cut-off were working properly (per Gas Company). I used the "Miles to Home" sort on Angie's list and picked the top three reviewed companies. It was unusually cold at this time, but the first company couldn't send out a technician until the next week. The tech was nice enough, but didn't even light the furnace and seemed a bit confused about new verse old refrigerants. He wanted to clean the vent, and I said fine, but give me an estimate to replace the furnace, too, since I was interested in that option. He gave me an estimate verbally, but even after calling back twice, I never received a written estimate. The third company wanted to charge for an estimate and also asked, over the phone, how much I was thinking of spending on the work. I can't mention names but will say that their annual maintenance policies seem to be poplar, and together with the spending question and estimate charge, made me question their business ethics. I called Home Comfort and John Farrugia stopped by the next morning and emailed me an estimate the same day. He recommended replacing the furnace and also detailed the individual pieces of work that would have to be done to fix the broken furnace, if I chose to go that route. We corresponded another 6-7 times via email over the course of two weeks. It was a good experience. John is clearly an expert at what he does, and is very professional, straight forward and patient. He and his crew do all the work themselves, they don't contract out. He doesn't represent a particular manufacturer and was willing to use a different furnace. My father had a small hvac company and I do engineering research, so I was confident I could learn, but had no knowledge of hvac work. John walked me through everything and discussed various options. The actual work is described in the services section but is almost not worth mentioning. The crew was punctual, organized and efficient, cleaned up after themselves, and completed the work in two days. Lots of effort, no problems. They even checked and fixed the existing ductwork, and gave me a decorative grill for the new supply vent that John happened to have on hand. When I called the next day to say that the phone line had been disconnected while they were working, John came over, found and fixed the problem, and while there, offered to program the new thermostat for us! It has been almost two weeks and everything is working fine. We have never had major house work go this well. I would highly recommend John and Home Comfort.

I just finished working with John to understand his bid for our complete HVAC installation, and he is one of the most trustworthy and honest individuals to work with. I misunderstood the bid, and John went out of his way to clarify my misunderstanding and make sure I knew all the work that would be done. His honesty made us realize we need to go back to all our bids and better understand the offerings & whether they are realistic. I am very impressed with John and we will use him if he is even close in price once we reconsider all the others.

This company has always been punctual and is very committed to quality. We have three units. The filter access for a unit installed by this company is easily accessible, however, the filter accesses for two pre-existing units (before I found this company) are more difficult to get to. So, John changes all three of our large pleated filters twice per year and checks the systems while here. In the past, he also has fixed a prior problem with a pre-existing system, and installed a new HVAC system for a new construction addition in 2008 ($10,000) which has performed very well!

Our air conditioning unit was only blowing hot air so I called our usual air conditioning company (not Home Comfort) on a Sunday. I did not get a call back. Then I called them again early Monday morning and they could not schedule me until Wednesday, despite over 100 temps. So I searched Angie's list and found Home Comfort & Heating. Home Comfort called back within a few minutes and asked me a few questions. He explained that the hot air was coming from my furnace, and to go outside to check if the unit was running. It wasn't. So he told me to check the breaker, and how to restart it if it was. He identified the problem in less than a minute and fixed it. Our house is now cooling off. Thank you Home Comfort

We are very happy and our furnace is running better and not blowing out dust anymore. The furnace is very old and the company we called into maintain it a couple of years ago (I won't give their name but they were in La Canada) incorrectly told us the system didn't have a filter. John from Home Comfort maintained the furnace and, WOO-HOO-pulled out the existing, old, nasty, disgusting filter (turns out or furnace did have one) which we replaced. The furnace is now blowing much better, cleaner air! I am sure my husband slept better last night because the furnace isn't blowing out dust anymore! I also called Home Comfort later that same day, a Saturday, with a follow up question and I got a return call within 5 minutes.

I called Home Comfort about a year ago. It was regarding the heater ...it made noise and seemed to lock at times unable to start. Over the phone he diagnosed exactly what the problem was and said, it could get pricey. Instead he suggested I try giving it a knock to see if that would work..It did!... He said this would last for a while, maybe a year, depending on use. What I had described was the motor getting ready to stop all together. He could come and replace it or I could be watchful give it a knock occasionally and it would last a bit longer. It gave out last week as the weather was turning cold. I called John he was here the following day to gather the information. He came back the day after with the new part and replaced the motor, plus gave the heater a thorough cleaning and was finished within an hour.... Not only is his work very clean...but personally John is a good guy...he won't charge for more trying to squeeze another hundred here or there or try to lock us into a maintenance agreement...like other companies have....he is fast efficient and reliable...easy to to work with, patient with questions and comfortable to have in our house. I highly recommend him....and wish he did other work so I could hire him for more work.....jh

He did exactly what he said; hired a professional company to remove the asbestos and he was one of two primary installers of the whole system. A year later, I sent John a note to tell him how much I was enjoying my new system in the heat of the summer.

a/c went down unexpectedly due to a surge this morning. I phoned, he came over within 30 minutes and checked all the possible issues, found the problem, fixed it and left - all within 90 minutes. super nice guy and knows his stuff - he will be the first person I call if/when I need help again. woot! thank you!

They came right away when I called them. They were very polite and professional, but then it took them forever to get me the quote. I had to call them a couple of times to see if they were going to get it to me. I thought they should one trying to make the attempt to get the quote out so I could think about it. I was really not happy at all. They finally did get me the quote. I thought if he is going to give me this kind of service before he starts the work, what is he going to do when he is actually doing the work? They didn't follow up at all, or even apologize. They didn't even bother to call me back about it. I'm not sure if he didn't like that I had another company coming to give me a bid right after him.

We already knew - from the previous contractor's visit - that we'd probably not be able to afford anything to large, or possibly anything immediate, and told John that to start with. Nevertheless, he was happy to look everything over and offer solutions based on our needs. His recommendation was that we install an in-wall air conditioner in the upstair offices, and he gave us the name of a wholesaler in the valley where we could find a good deal. He also recommended that we not use our heating system with a baby on the way, and that we would need to replace it; however, he suggested that - if we could tolerate the higher electric bills - that we wait the winter through with careful use of space heaters to better evaluate our needs. In the end, his solutions involved no work for him, but we appreciated that he appreciated our budget, and we will - as with the other contractor we met through the A-List - place him high on our list when we eventually get our full menu of work underway.

They did an excellent job and were very good. It was an amazing experience. They were very businesslike and professional. They were here for 3 days and they worked when they were here. There was no nonsense. They came in and did their work. They finished their work at the end of the day. They cleaned up at the end of the day and then came back the next day to start all over again. They said they were going to be here at 8 o’clock and they used to be here at 8 o’clock. I would recommend them to anybody. I received several bids and they were all about the same except that they had a little more to offer for the same amount of money. They work on all kinds of other major appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. I would use their services in the future too.

From his first visit to give us an estimate until the job was completed, John Farrugia of Home Comfort was prompt, professional, highly competent, and extremely easy to work with. The project took three days, and each day they left the house clean and told me what would happen next. John made an extra effort to find a thermostat that would meet our particular needs, and he waited at our house for the city inspector to come so that he could personally show him the work. We could not be more pleased with our experience with Home Comfort!

I couldn't have asked for better service tailored to my needs at a most reasonable price. When we can afford to replace this furnace, I would certainly go back to Home Comfort.

John promptly returned my voice message and we made an appointment for the following day. He arrived a few minutes early, and began a system check of my heating and air conditioning units. I recently moved to California and wanted to understand the systems that are in my old home. I am used to new homes, so I asked quite a few different questions about the HVAC and also other questions that pertain to heating and cooling an older home. John took the time to answer my questions and showed me what I should to do to maintain my systems. After spending an hour at my home checking and answering questions, he charged me nothing. Most likely, I will not need to use John's services for 5 - 7 years if I am lucky. I was pleasantly surprised that he didn't charge me anything for his time. I will call him when I need to change out the hvac system or if I experience any problems. He takes the time to listen and answer your questions. He appears to be an honest and kind businessman. I will use him again.

John arrived precisely on time, hopped on the roof, and within about 15 minutes fixed the problem. When I asked him how much I owed him, he just shook my hand and said "welcome to the neighborhood." How cool is that? Even though it was a simple fix, John clearly knew his stuff and he gave me some good advice on how to upgrade to a better system. I'll definitely call him next time.

Overall, it went very well. John arrived on time, and checked the most logical causes of malfunction for an air-conditioning unit of that age (original equipment to this 1970s townhouse). He determined that my old fuses were blown and replaced them. He was good about answering my questions about possible replacement of my heating/cooling system and we talked about what questions I may want to ask at that time. He was very helpful and forthcoming.

They were wonderful. They were prompt and found the problem immediately. They were very honest and fixed the problem immediately.

OK. John came out quickly to give an estimate, and the installation was fast. However, the unit was not installed correctly, and they had to come back out to fix a leak under my house. Also, I wasn't told that my existing ductwork was not large enough to move cold air (if you only have heat, you need to increase your duct size when you add an A/C). I would recommend getting a contractor who knows about ductwork, and not just a contractor that sells & installs A/C units. If your ductwork is the wrong size or poorly set up, you won't get the full benefit of your A/C unit. If you have a good duct system and are replacing an A/C unit, then this company would probably work well for you.
