Description of Work: They repaired all weak and potential leak areas on our large flat-roof house. Work was top quality and everything looks great. The first heavy rain will be the real test, but we have a two year guarantee on all work.

On or about the 29th of December, Kevin (Sarns?) examined our roof - we had a leak which caused interior damages - and discussed options. We told him we hoped that State Farm insurance would cover the costs. On December 30 (Thursday) they faxed us a contract - for a total of $9,200 plus incidentals - which my wife signed and faxed back the same day. She was harried by the threat of more rain and by the fact I had just returned (December 28) from the hospital after a surgical procedure. However, on Tuesday the 4th, the State Farm adjuster came and told us the interior damages would be covered, but not the roof, which really stunned us. We then realized that we could not afford the costs we had agreed to and phoned Kevin to ask to be released from the contract. No work had yet begun or been scheduled, and we had not sent the 1/3 advance payment they had requested. Kevin told her he knew State Farm would not pay for the roof repairs - why didn't he tell us that in the first place?? -- but insisted we had to stick with the contract. We were bound to honor it. Then he said that maybe, if his uncle agreed, we could be let off. This was still on the 4th. We phoned back to see what his uncle had said, but his uncle apparently only shows up late in the day or early in the morning, and he didn't show up that evening. We heard nothing on the 5th, so my wife called back hoping this could be cleared. She left that message but they never answered. She called again on the 6th, left a message, but again they didn't answer. So today (the 7th) she called her lawyer and faxed him the contract with Royal Roofing. Her lawyer told her it was an invalid contract on several grounds. Among the defects of the contract was that no provision or form for a 3-day rescission option had been included in the contract. Furthermore, no work had been done or scheduled. So her lawyer is contacting Royal Roofing. We were taken aback by how hard-boiled and unprofessional they had been. We would never deal with that company again.
Description of Work: Only an estimate given and contract forwarded

Description of Work: This company jerked us around for over 2 months. 8/31/10 - we 1st contacted them to do our roof and deck (which partially covered the roof) and door leading out to the deck . We wanted a reflective roof product to save energy costs, and we sent Cynthia a detailed list of the specs we thought we wanted. 9/2/10 - Royal's 1st estimator, Ryan, blew off our appointment claiming at the last minute to need to meet with an inspector. We re-scheduled with Jeff Holt 9/4/10 - Jeff Holt came out as scheduled. He said he'd get us an estimate by 9/7/10. 9/9/10 - Jeff emailed the roofing estimate, along with a page of 6 point font "boiletplate" contractual language saying crazy sh*t like "guarantee void in the event of earthquake," without specifying where in the world and how big an earthquake had to be to void their guarantee. 9/10/10 - I spoke with Jeff about my comments to their boilerplate and emailed my comments/questions re: things left off their estimate from our spec sheet and language in their "additional terms." 9/13/10- Jeff emailed me that had answers to everything and would send them that evening along with contract revisions. That didn't happen. 9/14/10 - Jeff emailed me that Kevin Sarno, the owner, would call me on 9/14 re: my insulation questions. 9/15/10 - Jeff emailed me a revised roof estimate. Kevin didn't call re: insulation. Still no deck or deck door estimate. 9/16/10 - I emailed Jeff some more notes on the revised roof estimate. 9/17/10 - Kevin finally called, but I had asked them to use my office number during business hours and he called on my cell during business hours, and I couldn't take the call. I called Kevin back an hour later and left him a voicemail. 9/19/10 - I left Kevin another voicemail. 9/20/10 - I emailed Jeff again about not being able to communicating with Kevin and not getting the deck or deck door estimates. 9/22/10 - Jeff emailed the deck and deck door estimates and write that he'd be reviewing the notes on the roof that evening. 10/4/10 - Nothing from Jeff. Nothing from Kevin. I emailed Jeff inquiring again. 10/8/10 - Kevin finally called, and told me that no one had ever tried to negotiate their boilerplate terms, and e.g. while of course they didn't mean that any earthquake of any magnitude anywhere would void their warranty, they weren't able to redraft that language. When I expressed some concern about e.g., damage to our house, since their terms said "Owner agrees to remove or to protect shrubs, plantings, and personal property, and Contrator shall not be held responsible for damage," Kevin said "you don't live in a museum, and we're not quoting museum prices, roofing is messy and our workers will damage things." Kevin said that I was free to draft my own Addendum to the contract and he'd review it. 10/10/10 - I emailed Kevin my proposed Addendum. 10/11/10 - Kevin emailed me that he received the Addendum and would review it today and get back to me. 10/19/10 - I emailed Kevin to inquire about the Addendum. No response. 11/3/10 - I emailed Kevin again. Still no response. 11/10/10 - I phoned Kevin and he tol dhe he was passing on the job because my Addendum was unacceptable. He claimed he contacted me a month ago after reviewing the Addendum and discussing with his uncle. What jerks these guys are.

This was a very large job because our old roof had so much wood damage. We were glad we planned our roof additions and followed Ryan Cameron's recommendations during the project (including trim color and fascia size). We bought the best materials that met our requirements and maximized our results. Royal Roof provided a preparation sheet - do the preparation. Roof repairs may expose attics/garage areas to roof debris. Cover those areas. Also discuss any exterior structures you wish to protect from falling debris, or heavy equipment. The work started with a tear-off of the old roof. For several days, 4-6 workers were on our roof at any point in time. Damage repair included rafter tail replacement through the stucco. Ryan Cameron recommended using an 8 inch fascia board instead of the old 6 inch size - and we are so glad we make that change mid-stream. Also, mid-stream we decided to replace ALL the shiplap wood, to get a better result and save money on later paint scraping. Ryan Cameron and his crew were very responsive to changes - even when it involved rework. He also personally handled the specific challenges of our house (tricky skylights, specific insulation issues). The crew worked long days. Now we can enjoy the results. There were several reasons we selected Royal Roof: 1. Superior Warranty - 15 year non-prorated for materials and labor 2. No subcontractors 3. A Corporation with broad experience - in business for over 70 years - and able to handle whatever "this old house" exposed 4. Mr. Cameron answered all our questions - and included (upon request) a materials list in our Statement of Work. Mr. Cameron was knowledgeable, responsive, and addressed our concerns from the start. He listened. Ask for Ryan Cameron.
Description of Work: Shingle re-roof involving: removal of 2 layers of old shingles, replacement of damaged wood (including rafter tails, all shiplap boards, and all fascia). We upgraded facsia boards with 8 inch x 2 inch WindsorONE, and shingles with 40 year GAF Timberline Cool Color high definition shingles. All exposed new wood was primed at installation. Added: 2 dormer vents; 3 t-tops, Commdeck satellite dish mount.

It was Thursday and I was in need of a re-roofing over the weekend in order to satisfy the lenders for a home I was trying to purchase. I left this message with the receptionist and she took down my details and said someone will return my call with their availability. Chris McFadden contacted me and he said he could come out to look and give an estimate first thing Friday morning. Once there, he was able to give me a good diagnosis and quickly calculate me an estimate within an hour and was able to assure me the work would be done by the end of Saturday. He also honored the Angie's List 10% coupon. Within another 2 hours we met to sign a contract and put down a deposit. The crew was originally set to arrive at 8am Saturday but I made the property available at 7am so they can start work earlier. However, they arrived at 8am and that's why I gave a "B" for punctuality. A crew of three men were very professional and courteous. They quickly setup and went to work removing the layers of old roofs and pointed out the pieces of wood that were damaged to us. The work was done by 1:30pm and the place was left clean. I have only praise for how flexible they were in working on my tight deadline and the professionalism of the crew.
Description of Work: Six layers of roofs needed to be taken off to put a new layer of roof on. Several pieces of wood were also replaced due to termite damage.

The gentleman I dealt with was Chris. He was very positive, professional and very responsive. The reason that we didn't use him is that he wanted to do a re-roof and we weren't prepared to spend $16000 on a new roof. We wanted to only do a repair. He went back out there to see if he could do a repair, but found out he couldn't. Finally we went with somebody else but we would consider him if we want to do a re-roof.

I never got a call back or an estimate from this company.
Description of Work: I called asking to get an estimate for a roof repair. That was on a Wednesday and I was told that the person who does their estimates, Phil, would call me back either later in the day or the next morning. I never received a call so I followed up on Friday and was again told that Phil would call me to set up an appointment. Never heard another word from this company.

My sister and I co-own a home, and are totally clueless as to construction or anything whatsoever to do with roofing. We decided to call a roofing specialist because we had recently had faulty gutters torn down and were concerned, because we felt that the somewhat ragged drip edges might lead to leaks. We had also noticed that a group of shingles adjacent to the chimney appeared to be "lifting," and we noticed what we feared might be wood rot underneath the buckling paint on the eves, caused by the over-flowing gutters. We found Royal Roofing Company's entry on the list, and liked the comments which we read from the contributing members. I called Royal Roofing at around 11:30 AM, and a very nice woman took all of my information. She told me that I would be hearing from "Mike" (Mike Reid, Project Manager) either later that day or the next. As it happened, Mike called shortly thereafter, and we were able to arrange an appointment for 1:00-1:30 that same day. Mike arrived promptly, and his easy-going and friendly manner put me at ease right away. I was not embarrassed to ask any and all questions about the roof, which I had previously thought were too dumb to be voiced. Mike walked the length and breadth of our roof, took his time, and carefully examined the drip edge. He told me that he did not feel that any work was warranted, and that it would be an unnecessary expense. He even nailed down the raised shingles which were of concern with new, longer nails (no charge), and went along the front of the house, nailing down the up-raised clips on the drip edge, showing me how easily we might do this for ourselves. He also examined the warped paint, and after examination told me that no wood rot was involved, although a paint job was defintely in-order (Royal Roofing does not do paint work or guttering). I was extremely impressed with his honesty and frankness. When he left, I truly regretted that I would not have the opportunity to employ his company, but resolved to provide the glowing report which they deserve. If anything ever goes wrong with my roof or that of my friends and neighbors, I do not have to hesitate as to a recommendation for whom to call!

Awesome. I wasn't sure if I wanted to change from the original to tile, but I trusted their expertise and absolutely love the change. Wow, what a difference. Kevin Sarno came out and was the salesman, and was very respectful of how much we could spend and gave us some options. And, we chose Royal Roof because of their experience. They showed up when they said and the job was finished within a week of our projected time.

I liked their honesty-they could have been dishonest about the condition of the remaining roof, and they were the most thorough, with a presentation folder with pictures, insurance information. It made it easy for me to make a decision. The roof is actually my mom's house. They were so good I couldn't even tell they were here, they protected our plants, put tarps down, swept up nails and refuse. There was no debris at the end of the job.

They were wonderful, absolutely great. I spoke with John Moody and he took a lot of time going over the whole project with me.
