Roman Upholstery

Late Aug 2012 we visited their shop and talked to Steve Hipsman about the job and advised we would find our own fabric. From a description and photo of the chair he estimated the fabric required at 15 yards and priced the job at $962.50 with us supplying the fabric. He had a backlog and wouldn't be able to start until late Sep or Oct. He agreed that he would pick-up and deliver the finished chair at no extra charge. Steve was very pleasant and professional and a pleasure to work with. We found the fabric we liked at the SOFA COMPANY in Santa Monica and ordered 15 yards for $901. It took about 3 weeks for delivery in mid-September. We then called Steve and told him we had the fabric and were ready to have him pick up the chair. He said he couldn't start on it until November but we could drop off the fabric so that he could send it out to have a knit backing put on to strengthen the fabric. We delivered the fabric and he said he would call when he could start on the chair. Early Nov he called and came to our home right on time and picked up the chair. It took about two weeks to complete. He delivered the completed chair on time as scheduled. The finished job was excellent and well worth the wait, it took about 2-1/2 months from the time of our first contact. We are very happy with the final result and would highly recommend them and would use them again.

Quality, organization, respnsiveness, punctualty, and professionism were all excellent. Also, as a custom piece, good communication of expectations was essential to get an end-result that met expectation. I'm pleased to share that communication was excellent and the end-result exceeded my expectation. As I didn't price-shop, or get any other estimates, I rated "Price" as "Good." Maybe the price was high; maybe it was low. I don't know. The price seemed reasonable given how much time Steve Hipsman spent working with me to achieve the great results. If you're looking to work with pros, I highly recommend Roman Upholstery!

Steve was great! Very knowledgeable and helpful. Went above and beyond to get the cushion we had refilled back to us, when we couldn't make it out to him. Top notch and will use him again!

He came and was extremely on time. He is a very honorable businessman full of integrity. The work on the couch was magnificent. Pick up and delivery was on time. I would recommend them to anyone.

Steve of Roman Upholstery was pleasant and informative when we were trying to decide whether we should reupholster a sofa or purchase a new one. At the appointed time, he was prompt in coming to our house to see the sofa. Upon examining the sofa, he stated that the sofa's wooden frame was very good and it would definitely be worthwhile to reupholster it; however, he suggested we might wish to go to the store to compare before deciding. He also brought over fabric samples that we kept for a few days so we could see how the color and texture would look depending on the lighting at different periods of the day. Steve's quote for the job was reasonable and his pickup and return of the sofa was prompt and careful. We are pleased with his excellent craftsmanship and skill in providing us with a beautiful and comfortable "new" sofa. I would highly recommend Roman Upholstery.

Getting this work done was simple, and overall went very well from start to finish

The chaise is a high end piece from Kreiss, and I am a very picky person when it comes to furniture and textiles. The owner showed me books that were in my price range and seemed to understand that it was going to take me a while to find the exact one. I was able to find a fabric I wanted, and the work was not only done in just three weeks, but the upholstery job they did was exquisite. It completely matched the stitching, piping and folds that the original had, to the letter, and the filling they used is clearly good quality. I'm thrilled with the result and would recommend them to anyone. They also delivered it to my house for free and showed up within the time period they stated.

We sent a picture of the chairs to them so they could give us a rough estimate based on what we were looking for - specifically wanted leather and Steve was able to give us a rough estimate before coming out. They then came to the house with the leather samples and took one of the chairs to work from and of course took the cushions on the other chairs too. They then delivered the completed cushions to the house - it was very easy in that they came to us, took the cushions off and then re-installed them without us ever driving to their location. The actual amount paid was very close to that estimate. The customer service was terrific. There were some initial quality problems with the leather itself (not the upholstery job) and so I called Steve and asked him to correct which he rectified completely and without attitude or hassle. All in all a great job and we absolutely love the way the chairs came out.

Roman Upholstery came to look at reupholstering two couches and repairing one. In the end, I only did a repair, as I didn't have the $ to do the upholstering. Service was friendly, professional and the price was terrific. I will call them to do upholstery when I'm ready. Highly recommend.

The job was well priced and i believe that the cost of material was much less than anywhere else I called. I will definitely go back if I ever have another need for repair; I also saw an interior designer there who was speaking with him about custom furniture, some which was on display. Definitely visit this guy for any upholstery needs.

Steve, from Roman Upholstery, came to our home to give us an estimate. We had found a fabric that we loved but it was no longer being manufactured. The company did have a small amount of yardage left but only sold to an upholstery company. Steve said that his buyer would call the company and make all the arrangements to purchase what was needed for our bench. This was done and we received an estimate for the entire job. The price was a little higher than we had originally considered, but that was only because we picked an expensive fabric. Steve made arrangements to pick up the bench and to deliver the finished product. He came on time for each visit to our home. He was very professional and likable. The bench was delivered today, was beautifully reupholstered and we love it! We would definitely use Roman Upholstery again and recommend this company to our friends and family.

I cannot speak highly enough of Roman Upholstery! From the first time I spoke to Steve on the phone to the last drop-off, I do not have one compliant. Steve and his team were on-time, professional, and very easy to work with. Also their work is beautiful! I love my recovered chairs and throw pillows. Use this company!

I had an estimate with them and I was very impressed with them although I never went through with having the work done because I could not decide whether I want to have the couch reupholstered or throw it out and start all over again. I had a very positive interaction with them. I liked the professionalism of the man who came out and gave me the quote. He did the measurements, discussed what I wanted, and what the various options would be. He was just very thorough and very professional. He knew what he was doing. There was no pressure. He just told me what the options were and how much the different options would cost. He was really good. I would use their service in the future too.

They did a fine job. I only dealt primarily with one man who owns the company. He was very polite and very professional. He gave me quotes for re-upholstering other pieces of furniture and of course no charge for that.

Using Angie's list as a guide, I selected Upholsterers with high grades in quality of work. Roman Upholstery was relatively close to my home. I visited their shop personally during business hours and saw that they had current work and that the shop itself was typical of these types of businesses. I spoke with Mr. Hipsman, outlined my objectives, and set a date for him to see the chairs. He arrived promptly on the appointed day, took notes and gave me a yardage estimate, which was substantially less than the generic estimate of the fabric suppliers (and there was still material left over after the work). Mr. Hipsman provided an estimate by mail in the next days and I acquired the fabric. Roman Upholstery can also do this but it wasn't pushed. We agreed on a start date, he visited the house with tack samples for selection and picked up the chairs exactly when promised. He contacted me about progress as promised and delivered the results on the very day estimated (two weeks). The result was beautiful, detailed work, neat, taut and classic. It turned out that the oak was so solid that they had to pre-drill every tack hole (more than a hundred) but they did not charge extra for this circumstance. I highly recommend this firm to others.

Prompt, efficient, capable, very pleasant experience to repair seam tear on chaise lounge.

I had contemplated just buying a new inexpensive sofa but knew that the existing sofa that had been damaged (cushions torn up, fabric ripped) was a very good quality sofa that would cost $3,000 to replace at the same quality. I also had no time to go shopping for fabric. Roman Upholstery brought a number of samples to my house for me although they have many more at their shop, they directed me towards fabrics that would stand up well to the dogs and could easily be cleaned. Also I wanted the cushions redesigned. The price was very fair and they left with the sofa. I have a horrible steep driveway that they had to manage as well. The sofa was ready in a couple of weeks and they even made an extra cover that I can fling over the sofa for the dogs. The sofa looked fabulous, they had made it look more contemporary than its original look (which is what I wanted). Everything was at the price they originally quoted. It cost me about $500 more than getting a cheap IKEA sofa. Thrilled with their service.

Due to a tighter budget this year, I couldn't use their services, but I do think their quote was fair. I love how they said they come out and personally measure for each piece they make, for no extra charge, even something as small as dining chair cushions. I spoke with Steve, who was professional, and explained very well how the process works, how many yards of fabric I would need to buy, and what the lead time would be (7-10 days). It would've been about $70-80 per dining chair cushion, or $95-105 if it had a welt or if it were a box cushion. The only problem I had was that it took them quite a while to return my first phone call. After that, we played phone tag a bit, but I wouldn't say that was their fault. I love their closeby west Los Angeles location, and I do think I will use them in the future.

Overall, I was satisfied with the service. They seemed very good, but I did not end up using them.

They were close by and we wanted the work done, so we chose them. They provided the fabric for the chairs. Their work was good, but they were expensive. It took them about three weeks to complete the job. I dropped the chairs off at their place and picked them up. They were punctual and they treated me well.

It was a great experience. I got their name from Angie's List. I contacted them, Art was very helpful-in that he explained the best way to proceed with upholstery-and we even discussed the price range for fabric-since I was new to this. The estimate process was easy-since I was able to send the size of the pieces and photos-and Roman gave a prompt and fair quote. They picked up the pieces, gave me a completion date-and actually finished the job prior to final due date. They were also great at communication throughout the process. They delivered the pieces to our home today-and they look great. We are very, very happy with their work.

They gave me a fair estimate, picked up the furniture on time, it was ready on time, the bill was no more than the estimate, and they delivered it on time. The quality of the work was excellent, and all the people involved were courteous and helpful.

THEY WERE VERY ATTUNED TO THE CUSTOMERS' NEEDS AND PROVIDED PROMPT PICK UP AND DELIVERY. OVERALL, IT WAS JUST A GREAT EXPERIENCE. IT WAS HIGH QUALITY FABRICS AND THEY WERE VERY ADAPTIVE TO MY NEEDS. THEY WERE ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ORIGINAL LOOK AND FEEL OF THE SOFA.
