They were here within 45 minutes of my call, shut off my water and stopped the leak immediately. They returned promptly the next morning and completed the work of putting in new valves and water line efficiently in one day.
Description of Work: Stopped leaking hot water line in kitchen, repaired and replaced 20 feet of water line with all copper line, installed new shut off valves for hot and cold water. Also replaced hot water heater, replaced line filter for refrigerator ice maker and snaked the line from the washing machine.

They did not write up the order correctly. There was some confusion on where the different pipes would be in our yard. It took them longer than it should have. They did refund for part of the work. They were very easy to work with to rectify the issues. We did end up going through another company to finish the work.

Water heater had a slow leak. Called Reliance (formerly Luskkin). Service person said the problem was a relief valve and quoted a price of $470 to repair. Diagnosed the source as excessive pressure in the water line.Twice tried to sell me on the idea of installing a tankless system, which runs several thousand dollars. Something didn't compute so I called our handyman, who is a licensed contractor. (Before repairman left he said, hey, I can cut price by 10%). Handyman purchased a relief valve at local hardware store for $30 and installed in thirty minutes. Also said that pressure indicator was broken, so that the reading was totally wrong. Cost a new pressure indicator is $100, less for rebuilt. When the repairman finally left I was given a bunch of coupons to give to friends. If they used Reliance, I would get a discount. People, this company is greedy, unethical, and out to get as much of your money as they can. I will give them credit for calling me after the service visit. But all they wanted to know about was the repair man. When I asked if the person was writing down what I've said above, she said no. So they don't even care about your views of their company pricing and behavior. STAY AWAY STAY AWAY
Description of Work: Came to house, diagnosed problem, gave estimate.

Response from Reliance Home Services Inc
Reliance Home Services maintains a strong sense of ethics in our customer relationships. If a customer insists upon the replacement of a part, solely to prolong a manufacturer's warranty, it is our duty to investigate. This customer's water heater had no evidence of a leak, but the customer insisted that we replace the unit for free, based upon their hunch that the unit might leak in the future! We made good faith recommendations, which the customer declined. We always appreciate the opportunity to assist homeowners in need. We do our best to educate our customers and we do so ethically.

I have a furnace which has air-conditioning and heating, and basically, I needed a tune-up. When they came out, I liked the job they did. They were very professional. The second time I used them, they suggested maybe buying a maintenance contract for a year that would allow me two visits, one in the winter which they just did for furnace and one during the summer. I bought this contract some time last year and I thought I need to call them and follow up, but they called me saying I was due for the service and scheduled it. I really appreciated that.

On November 23, we called Reliance to once again clear a clog in our kitchen sink that had caused backup afterThanksgiving Dinner. The estimate we'd received over the phone was the standard minimum of $65.00 for an in person call. In the past the cost to clear the sink had been consistently $99.00. We were informed by the technician that as the price had since gone up, the minimum for a basic clearing would be $189.00, though he strongly recommended a more thorough detailed job for $300.00 and a guaranteed job for $500.00. With tight finances we opted for the least expense. After starting the work, he found a slow leak from a trap under the sink which he replaced for an additional $126.00. The technician did alert us to the fact that we would need a deeper cleaning, to insure that the line would stay free. On December 29th, less than 5 weeks later, the same problem occured in the same sink. That same day when I used my clothes washer, water backed up and flooded the compartment. I was furious and on Sunday the 30th, I called a dispatcher at Reliance and told her that if I had to pay for another call from a technician for work done less than 5 weeks ago, I would report this incident to Angie's list and give Reliance a 'D' Grade. To their credit, I got 2 calls from 'Reliance' that totally changed my mind. The 1st was from the dispatcher 'Cesar' who was understanding, sympathetic, and when I gave him the invoice info for the previous job, reassured me that there would be no charge for a call back. The 2nd call was from Ron the owner. He was very upset with the situation, and was impassioned about his belief in his company and the people who worked for him. He also assured me that though I was technically past the 30 day window, he would not charge me unless there was a different problem causing what happened. Finally, when Gabriel the technician came today, he expertly and smoothly corrected the entire problem without any extra drama. He was friendly, courteous, efficient, easygoing and most importantly straightforward. True to Cesar's and Ron's word, there was no charge for this call! In closing, I told Ron, that I would be more than happy to give an 'A' to Reliance if this were resolved the way they assured me it would be. It has, and I'm delighted to say that as Ron has shown himself to be a man of his word, so will I. It's more than doing a job for a fee, it's how you deal with people. and this case, 'A s' all around!!
Description of Work: This is my 12th experience with Reliance (formerly Drain Surgeon) with clearing our drains (kitchen, & bathroom). This was again clearing a clog in our kitchen line (which also affects the drainage of our clothes washer).

Service person was supposed to be here between 2pm and 4pm. At 3:20 I get a call saying Juan will be here by 4pm. At 3:40, I get a call saying Juan will be here in 30 to 40 minutes. I asked if it had changed, and the caller seemed unaware that someone had already called me and said disregard his call. I FINALLY think to look them up on Angie's list. (When will I learn???) Bad rating. (Now I see why!) It's 4:50, no one has ever arrived. Which was fine, because by now, wary of their reputation, I can comfortably call and cancel, .

I had this company replace my pipes several years ago. The worked was guaranteed. Then, I needed to replace my main sewer line out to the street and hired a different plumber. That plumber went under my house to check something and told me there was a problem with the other work. I was completely upset and angry because I had spent thousands of dollars to have the pipes fixed the first time. I went on Reliance website and wrote an email to the President, which is plainly marked on the website. I received a call within 2 hours and quality control tech - Randy Flowers was at my house Monday morning. He went as far as he could underneath the house and said yes, it wasn't perfect, some settling had occurred over the previous 5 years and that he wanted to fix those spots. He got another, physically smaller tech the next day to look at the places he couldn't get to. They scheduled a time to come to my house, replaced and redid all the work that was necessary at no charge, which has made me a lifetime customer. More than just fixing the work, they were courteous, didn't make me feel stupid and didn't tell me the other plumber was wrong. I told them that there could be unicorns under my house for all I knew and I had no intention of ever going underneath the house. Randy looked, wasn't defensive, didn't give me grief and handled the whole thing completely professionally. Without question I would recommend these guys to do work every day. As a matter of fact, my garbage disposal broke a couple of weeks later and I had them come to replace it. All went well with that job.

I did contact two other plumbers, and was told that price was way out of line. So I called Reliance Home services back, and was told that their pricing was in the standard for that service! Really? I would never call this company back for any work!
Description of Work: I had used the company before, and service was great. The company is the problem not the service man. I had called to have my hot water tank strapped down. I needed it done to comply with the homeowners insurance, and needed it done within 24 hours. So when he did show me the charge I was needless to say not to happy! However I had no time to call another plumber. They charged me $490.00 just to strap it down! Now if 10 min of work time, and 20.00 in material equal 490.00 I would say I need to go into plumbing.

This is the second time this company and their English electrician, Kim Magin, has come out to my home in Glendale. Each time, he was prompt, nicely groomed, and very polite with a great British accent. He knew what he was doing and impressed me with his knowledge of all aspects of electrical installation. The company also impressed me with their follow-up calls to make sure the work was done to my satisfaction and that I was completely happy...which I was. Can not recommend Kim and them enough.

I explained everything in the above report.
Description of Work: I had a large leak in my guest house. They charged me for the estimate $500.00 to come back the next day and fix the leak. I had a large leak and they fixed it using copper plmg. It took one day to do and they had a mexican doing the plumbing who barely spoke english. They didn't come out to check until the job was done. They also said I needed to clean to the street after putting the camera in and saying it was clogged. That was done by the same man. Another man was here who did the digging. The guest house was priced by one man who charged me $3,734. Since the water was gushing out I had no choice.. The line to the street was another employee who charged $7,539. After getting over the mass hysteria of water all over the place and being overcharged I still do not know if the man who repaired all the plumbing had a liscense. When I originlly contacted them they were going under the name Burbank Plumbing which they had bought without my knowledge. After 2 days of plumbing mishaps they left and the water heater went out. They came back and wanted to charge me $2,488.75 minus the $500 I complained about and reduced the charges to $1,988.75. Needless to say at that point I got another plumber. I guess my age was showing that day.

Shortly after they replaced the cartridge we started getting diminished water out of the master shower. Originally they said they made adjustments to the tank less water heater, but then when they came back they said they have no records of any adjustments being made. The overall experience was average. I had issues with them coming on time. Every time they came they tried to sell me expensive services. It seems like they are not trustworthy. I have spent a lot of money with these guys and my problems don’t get fixed. In the last six visits to my home they have sent six different groups of people. They also said they sent a quality control expert out, but he seemed to know less than the other people that had been coming. I no longer trust these people and would not recommend that anyone use them.

Reliance Home Services, Inc. www.reliancehs.com, contractor?s license 193955 have been our plumbers since 1971. (They were originally known as Clark?s Plumbing). In the past, we have received consistently good service. Prices are high, but work has always been reliable, courteous, and very clean. Not so this time. Day One, the plumbers showed up on time and preliminary work was started ? no problems. fine. Day Two was a disaster. The plumbers were suppose to arrive at 8 am and didn?t show up until after 1 pm. Their initial excuse for their tardiness was that their key plumber had an emergency. On further investigation with The Big Boss, there were over 20 plumbers on call and the emergency could have been handled by someone else. As a result of their late start, they brought extra guys to get the job done. The key guy spent the entire time under the house and didn?t supervise not even one minute of the job. The other plumbers worked in the bathroom and didn?t cover one thing ? there was dirt everywhere ? the floor, every bottle in the bathroom, the tub, the fixtures ? just a complete mess. They finally departed after 6 pm leaving us not only with the mess but also the hot water heater not working properly. It took our housekeeper and myself over two full days to clean up the mess. 3 days later the hot water was still erratic. Concerned about quality of work from these idiots, Big boss comes over, crawls under the house and says ?some things need to be fixed?. So more plumbers arrive, more work is done and the supposed expert on hot water heaters tells us everything is fixed. 2 days later we still have no hot water so a new team of idiots is dispatched. They inform me that the problem is I have no gas. I direct them to the kitchen and my working gas stove and they shake their heads and say I need an electrician. An electrician arrives around 6:00 pm and he informs me that he doesn?t know why he is here as he is not a plumber and doesn?t fix hot water heaters. He does install a new plug as the original group didn?t realize that the plug that was there was incorrect. But, he can?t fix the hot water. This keeps going on for 3 weeks. Finally, Big Boss arrives again. He decides to replace hot water tankless device which they installed a few years ago with a temporary unit to take ours into the shop. Recent eMail from Big Boss says ?it is really not their fault with the hot water device? as it needed parts and they are fixing and eventually [my word] we will get it back. In between we received 2 calls from their collection people asking ?Why hasn?t the bill been paid." The left hand doesn?t know what the right is doing. Oh, also while they were here we realized that we had a leaking sprinkler valve and asked that it be fixed. Two weeks later we are noticing brown spots on the lawn. The electronic sprinkler system doesn?t seem to be working correctly. We have the sprinkler people out for a complete ?check up?. It turns out that the valve is not installed correctly. One more complete breakdown in quality of service. We will see what happens when our unit is eventually put back and they send an ?adjusted bill?. These guys will not be our plumbers in the future. We suggest that they not be your plumbers either. Reliance is not reliable.

I just needed the drain valve replace on a water heater that was installed in 1999. Now I know water heaters don't last very long, however this one is still working & no issues the the heater itself. The handle on the drain valve had been leaking for a while & I did replace just the handle itself and was able to slow the leak down to a very slow drip. Do to financial difficulties I can't afford just to spend needlessly. I had done business with a plumbing company where I live for over 27 yrs. so I called the number and apparently this company Reliance had taken over the plumbing company I was use to dealing with. I told them I was at work and to call me on my cell phone when they were ready to go to my home so I can alert my husband, who is disabled, that they are on the way and that I would like if possible to have them bill me since I was at work; which I had done with the other company. They informed me that it was only COD which is ok, but then they would have to come back to get the check when I arrived home. The dispatcher then gave me the option to come when I got home from work, to do the work, but I quickly said I was not paying for overtime. He then said let me just send out the tech to do the work and we will see what we can do. (He did acknowledge that I was a long time customer.) I agreed to go ahead & send the tech out. When the tech got to my house he informed my husband of 3 options that he could do to the water heater. Now remember I only needed the drain valve replaced NOTHING ELSE. Option 1: replace the water heater parts & labor 1999.00 .... Highway robbery in my opinion!!Option 2: replace pressure valve (because of the age of the water heater), replace/clean some rod inside, replace drain valve 863.00 ... again I was born yesterday!!Option 3: replace drain valve 263.00... unbelievable, but because I had been without hot water for 24hrs I had no choice. Now I know that the parts he used to replace the plastic piece that came with the water heater were brass, but come on must you even overcharge on those!!! I have learn my lesson the hard way. If a company I am use to dealing with is taken over by someone else, buyer beware!! I will not use these people again, just on the fact they would not extend any courtesy for being a long time customer & I was willing to work with them on getting them the payment, but they wouldn't work with me. And for trying to sell me something outrageously priced.

They were quick and they were extensive. They left it clean, they cleaned up well. The job was fine. There was some work we thought that they would but they didn't do. I'm not sure if it was a misunderstanding or something. They did most of what they were supposed to do. I should have got a second opinion but as it was a weekend and it was an emergency so we got them. He replaced half of our sewer line gutter that was in pretty good shape and he cleaned out and he went off. I called him and asked if he was done and he said he would come back but it took another week and half for him to come back and they hadn't cleaned it out like they said they did. They did clean it up but they should have done it at the price they charged me earlier, instead he wanted to charge me another $1000. I just wanted to clean the sewer line and that's all I wanted, so I asked them to leave. I can't say they were horrible but I don't think I would use them again because for $7000 I wanted to clean the sewer line and no more headaches. I think plumbers who do the sewer lines charge a lot and they were reasonable and somewhat what other people would charge. Most of the people over there were professional. There was only one thing that made me unhappy and that was they didn't finish the job. That was the most important part.

We appreciate your feedback and sincerely regret your dissatisfaction. Customer satisfaction is our top priority and we've been doing so successfully for decades. I investigated your project and the additional work in question was not part of the original job. If that wasn't made clear to you by the technician, we do apologize. It absolutely should have been. However, with that being said, we would welcome reconnecting with you to discuss this and try to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution. Please call us and ask to speak with a manager. Thanks again for your business and your feedback.

I was really happy with them. The furnace was covered by our insurance. They kind of went above and beyond because they came out twice and they ended up calling the insurance adjuster. He ended up calling them five times because we had a gravity furnace, which is kind of an old dinosaur so it was a unique situation. They kept on the insurance guy, which was great. When he finally got the go ahead they came out very quickly because we didn't have any heat for weeks and weeks. Their workers were great. They all spoke English, which was a plus because I could communicate with them. They wee very respectful and very clean. They tidied up the place. They did the work with the least amount of discomfort to the rest of us. When the inspector came to permit it he said it was a beautiful job. They had one guy that had a lot of experience with the gravity furnaces. He was extremely knowledgeable. The furnace is so old that most people don't even know what it is so we kind of lucked out. I think it is a million times better than forced air and I was in love with the gravity furnace.
Description of Work: I used Reliance Home Services because we had a flood in our basement. Our water heater burst and it took out our furnace. They gave us two estimates, one to repair the existing furnace and one to replace it. They removed the old furnace and installed a brand new one. We went from gravity heat to forced air.

We had this company come out to snake a clogged drain pipe from our master bathroom shower. We moved into this 70-year-old house about a year ago, and know some of the plumbing has been updated and some has not. They came out on time, and cleared the drain as agreed. Two months later the same drain clogged again. They came out without charging for a service call even though there was only a 30 day warranty on the last service, and did the camera-down-the-drain thing to see what the problems was. It was just a very old pipe that had accumulated a lot of sediments and gunk, and was simply choked off. Jimmy said we would continue to have problems with clogging. He gave us three options, which we appreciated. One was to just call for a roter-rooter whenever it clogged. The next was to break into the pipe from under the house at an angle from which they could really ream it out well. The third was to replace the pipe. He gave us estimates for the last two options. We called for another estimate from a different company. We ended up going with the second company, but felt we should give acknowledgement to Reliance. They were courteous, professional, prompt, and fair in price. They would have had to charge for any further services, but we like that they stood behind their initial service by not charging for the follow up visit and doing a thorough follow up (plumbing companies charge a lot to put a camera through your drain pipes!).

They took it over apparently and they are a bigger company that own different plumbing places all over LA I guess. Overall, they gave me an excellent service and they were really nice and everything, but they were very pricey. I am not sure if I am going to use them again because ? I am always used to using the old timers from another plumbing and they must have all retired now. They gave me good service, they were polite and everything, but they are really expensive in my opinion. I used them because I had to get the thing fixed. I would probably try another plumbing service if something else comes up just to see. To replace the water heater it was $1900 and for the other thing it was $600. I own a little house and I wasn't there when they did the work and everything, but I called them because that's who I always called in the past (another plumbing company), but this time when I called I found that they were not the old company anymore and they were Reliance. They came over and my tenant told me. I gave approval over the phone because I don't live there anymore. I didn't have time to call another company. They were very professional because they called back. I probably would use them if I can't find somebody replace them, but I am going to try to find a place that's cheaper.
Description of Work: I used the services of Reliance Home Services Inc in December and January. They took over an old (a smaller) plumbing that used to be where I lived before. They first replaced a water heater and took away the old one. The other thing that they did was the main water thing inside the house (I don't know what you call it) was leaking and they had to replace several valve because they said it needed replacing.

See above. Luskin is the worst company I've ever had to deal with. They are dishonest and treat their customers with disdain.
Description of Work: Luskin installed a tankless water heater ($7600) in 2007. It worked for 2 1/2 years, then stopped working. They came out and insisted I needed a $6,000 water purification system to clear the pipes which would allow the water heater to function properly. I had that installed in May, 2010. From then to now (Oct. 19, 2010) I've had countless service calls to no avail. They refuse to return my phone calls. They don't show up for scheduled appointments. The water heater randomly turns off several times a day. The owner, Cesar, will not return my calls despite numerous voicemail messages from me.

Got a quote over the phone to clean any 2 drain of my choice for $49. They did a bait and switch on me by sending Luskin Plumbing & Heating to do the cleaning. After cleaning Luskin billed me for $98 for both drains. Luskin invoice from Jimmie West stated $49 for each drain. I know this is a small amount but it is the principle. I have learned a lesson from this - get a written work order before the job is performed.
Description of Work: Snake the drains to the street.
