Pieter and his team did a fantastic job. I hired him based on the glowing reviews on Angie's List, and he lived up to the hype. The new floors look amazing. At the beginning of the job, we were very concerned about the old floors, as they were stained heavily from years of cleaning the prior carpets with caustic chemicals. Pieter was able to get them down to a bare look without any remnants of the prior staining, and the refinish he put down is fantastic. I highly recommend Pieter for any hardwood floor project.

Rousseau gave me a great price on the work, then, when they were unable to perform the work because they were overbooked, found a (literally?) brother company to do at least as much work, if not more so, for the same price, during the window of opportunity I had requested. Very very responsive and flexible, and would use Rousseau or Steve's Hardwood any time and recommend them to any one.

After playing phone tage with another vendor for several days, I sent Pieter an e-mail. He responded the same evening with a base price of $750, extremely fair. He showed up the next morning to check out the floors. We talked about options to deal with pet urine stains, water damage, discoloration, and warped and loose boards. He easily could have "upsold" me on a lot of repairs, but only suggested an additional $200 to stain the floors to try and camaflouge the pet urine stains, bringing the total to $950. However, I wanted the natural color, so I told him I would be willing to pay more to try and achieve this. So, the floors were double bleached to even out the tone. It got rid of all the dark spots and extensive water stains. The pet urine stains persist, but there is no smell and as the floors cure, the stains are becoming progressively less noticeable. The incoming tenant thought the floors were "gorgeous" and wasn't phased by the stains as her furniture will cover most of them. She has a cat, so I'm not going to fret if I allow pets. At some point in the future I could replace the stained boards, but for now, with 3 coats of varnish, they are protected from further damage, and everyone is happy! In summary, very professional from start to finish, and his crew were total pros. He is respectful if you're on a budget, but can deliver perfection, if that's what you want.

When we pulled up the carpets in my grandmother's house, we didn't know what to expect. These floors had been languishing under carpet since the '50s. Underneath we found some pretty decent hardwood, with a bit of termite damage, one big spot of water damage, and serious scarring from the carpet pad in the hallway. I started calling around for estimates on a Friday. The first company I called gave me a quote over the phone. When I called Pieter, he offered to come over the next day for an estimate. He showed up on time and quoted a very competitive price. I had read good things about him on Angie's List, so I decided to hire him that same day. We scheduled the job for nine days later. On the day of the job, Pieter arrived on time with a two-man crew, and I handed over the key. The job took exactly four days, as Pieter promised: one day for sanding and repairs, and one day for each coat of finish (three coats total). They did an excellent job, and the floors look beautiful. It's clear that Pieter cares about wood floors and strives to do a good job for his customers. Not only did they do a nice cleanup job, they also made sure mail didn't pile up on the doorstep--someone brought it inside and left it on the kitchen table. I'm very happy with the work and would definitely hire this company again.

Pieter did a great job. The floors look beautiful, he gave us a fair price, he completed when he said he would and he was always responsive and honest. I would use him in the future.

It needed to be filled in. He ended up refinishing the whole place. He was very nice, clean, and on time. The floors look great.

These guys are extremely professional, they have top notch customer service, and the price was a steal for the amount of work they put in on this job. I would highly recommend Peter and his crew!

While I was out of town, my roommate ran a load of wash without checking the basin that the washing machine drains into for debris, and a rag became lodged in the sink drain when the rinse cycle emptied, thus overflowing the basin. Because she didn't come back into the room until after the load was done running, water had been standing on the floor for half an hour and the boards had bowed up so high that the door to the laundry room wouldn't open all the way. Water got under the floor and traveled throughout most of the laundry room and also into the kitchen, which had a continuous pre-finished oak floor. I called Pieter at Rousseau Wood Floors off of the recommendation on Angies List and he came out the next day to take a look. Once we agreed on a price, he set the date for his team to come back about a week later to start the job, but before he left, he pulled up several of the floor boards in the laundry room so that the subfloor could dry out as much as possible. Pieter's subcontractors showed up on time and removed all of the appliances. It took them most of the day to remove the old floor and install the new, thicker solid oak floor. They saved enough good pieces from the removal that they were able to feather in replacement pieces into the kitchen and then create a small incline break to the new floor in the laundry room. During the removal, they pulled out the other two layers of flooring that were underneath the pre-finished hardwood floor that had been damaged, so that when they inserted the new solid oak flooring, it was just barely higher than the floor in the kitchen. The second day they sanded the floors in both the laundry and the kitchen and were able to apply the stain and one coat of finish, the third day they applied two more coats. Because they finished on a Friday, they had to come back Monday to put all of the appliances back into the kitchen. The only hiccup was that I didn't know I'd need to have a plumber ready to reinstall the washing machine and that I would need to light the pilot lights, etc. on both the water heater and stove. While I ended up doing it all myself, I wish I'd known ahead of time that while they will disconnect, remove, and then later replace the appliances, they will not re-attach them. Pieter was on-hand when the appliances were brought back in and did give a good reason for why they don't do it -- if something goes wrong, they're responsible for the floor, and plumbing is not their specialty. Not a huge issue, but at the time I remember being quite frustrated that I hadn't been told this sooner so that I could line up a professional instead of needing to hope and pray that I'd done it correctly because I was in a rush

Pieter and his team were incredibly professional. They showed up on time, communicated with us perfectly and did an absolutely amazing job. The floors look more beautiful than I could have imagined. We will definitely use Pieter in the future, and refer him to friends.

Mr. Rousseau and his staff were prompt, organized, clean, considerate and professional. They worked quickly and efficiently. The floors were covered with carpet which was removed and disposed by them. The floors were sanded, cleaned and finished. Mr. Rousseau called me in to discuss the baseboards so that there wouldn't be any surprises (it had been freshly painted with the carpet installed), and asked how I wanted to proceed. His staff were clean, thoughtful, personable and very professional. I had time constraints and they worked with me to make sure the job could be done as requested, as bid, and the results were as hoped for. I had an excellent experience, and based upon that would feel very comfortable in recommending Pieter Rousseau Hardwood Floors.

Pieter did the job while we were out of town - he was trustworthy with our key and home - very responsive by phone as necessary. We were thrilled with every aspect of the job - he finished in the time he said he would, the floors look BRAND NEW. We really could not be more thrilled. This was our first Angie's List experience as well and it is very encouraging. Pieter also insisted that we see the finished job before we paid him the balance. He is truly a knowledgeable professional.

It was great. He gave us the estimate over the phone which lowered the overall price. He arrived on time, and over 4 days, sanded, stained and finished our floors. They look terrific.

I called Pieter for an estimate, he came at the stated time, I felt the estimate was more than fair, I told him I wanted him to do the job, we agreed on a price and a date. On that date he was there at the stated time, he told me what he would be doing, and began work immediately. He and his crew were so wonderful, they sanded the floors and applied the finish in two days, after the 2nd day Pieter looked at the floors, he was not satisified and told me he was going to to another coat. Pieter does a wonderful job, my kitchen and breakfast room oak floors were not in good condition, after the job he did they look brand new, I would use Pieter again and again, he is wonderful, his work is beyond excellent as is his crew, his price is very fair.

Got a quote over the phone. Pieter came out and quoted less. The floors were a not very nice brown/red color. He sanded them down and came up with a beautiful color for them. It was difficult to get the color I wanted because of the red wood, but Pieter worked his magic and came up with a color more beautiful than I imagined. He's a small business guy, with a small crew. He was on the job for at least 70% of the job. He worked on my floors the 1st day with his crew, the second day his guys came out and did some more work and then Pieter finished the floors himself on the 3rd day. He made the floors look beautiful. I did not find Pieter on Angie's List; I stumbled onto him via a search on the Internet. There were many good reviews on his services there, so I gave him a try.
