Since its humble beginnings in 1993, Oz Moving & Storage has grown from a single truck and a handful of employees to become one of New York City’s largest and most reputable moving and storage companies.
Currently operating with 50 trucks and 200 employees, Oz Moving performs 15,000 moves each year, treating every one as the MOST important. Additionally, Oz offers a full range of support services, including: Relocation Consultants, On-Site Estimators, In-House Carpenters and Furniture Restorers. Though there are many options for storage and moving, no single company delivers the service, pricing, and commitment of Oz. Now enjoying its third decade serving New York City, Oz Moving is THE choice for affordable, full service moving and storage.
I had hands down the worst experience with Oz Moving & Storage — ranging from being lied to and bullied and having items ruined. I was mis-sold services by the sales rep Bill (who is no longer with the company). He told me various untrue things that would be part of my moving package, including that the company had HQ and storage facilities in San Francisco, that Oz Moving was familiar with San Francisco in general regarding city ordinances, and that my items would be stored in San Francisco and not New York City. I even had to use an email from Bill to prove to the Oz Moving that I was not responsible for calling the city of San Francisco to reserve parking space for the moving truck. No customer of any moving service should be responsible for coordinating with any city for parking space. I complained to customer service and had an extremely unpleasant experience with Shadeequah and Allison. Shadeequah spoke to me on the phone with attitude that should not be held for anyone in customer service, almost in an bullying attempt when she said "Oh I know your account." She was extremely rude and unhelpful in the matter when I complained. I escalated the issue to Allison, who was further unhelpful. When on the phone with Allison, I had told her of my experience with Bill and the movers that picked up my items in New York -- her attitude was extremely poor and not conducive to anyone in the customer service industry. When I mentioned that I was in California and the time she was calling me at was an early hour, instead of apologizing or saying thank you for letting me know, she had the audacity to **** "Well how as I supposed to know?" which tells me that she should not be part of the customer service team and should not be customer facing. The attitude of the customer service reps was astonishingly bad. Furthermore, items were broken and ruined. The condition of the boxes was atrocious - you can tell that Oz Moving did not care of how they stored my items or loaded the boxes to the the truck -- boxes were smashed, handles were broken off of plastic bins and suitcases. My couch was ruined due to the dye from the blankets used to wrap the couch bled onto the couch's fabric. When I had professional cleaners assess the damage of the couch, they even said that “reputable moving companies doesn’t use such shoddy blankets in moving - the dye doesn’t transfer if the blanket is of quality material.” It was shocking how bad this company is at providing moving services. I felt used and manipulated by Oz Moving and would warn anyone that uses that - beware of poor customer service and moving services.

Carlos came out very professional as well as his crew. I was told everything was going to be wrapped and handled the correct way. Carlos had inspected my furniture before the move. When I arrived to Maryland things got strange, it took them 3 week to a month longer then they said originally to receive my things to my storage unit which was planned the whole time. They said they were just running behind. I had two 10x10 storage spaces to make sure I had plenty of room to make sure I could get to things easily and plenty of space for them to move. I had to pay additional money for the storage spaces because they were a month late, after they arrived, they wouldn't unwrap my things so I could see them and kept giving me excuses like they didn't have time, they were busy, they have another job. I found out they didn't come to Maryland right away, they went to New York and New Jersey first. I was aware that they were going to go to New York and New Jersey hub. They told me they were going to note in their system that they were aware my furniture going to be in storage long term so when I pen my things they would replace anything that was damaged. I found out the movers that moved me lied to me and when I went to get my desk for my office I unwrapped it and found out it was broken. When I filed my claim with Nancy is just plain nasty. Nancy is the claim manager. We went over my address and were to send my claim. She then sent it to the storage unit, where I specifically told her not to. It took an additional month for me to get my claim. She first said she was going to deny my claim because other movers had touched my things, I explained her people are the ones that wrapped my things up with a blanket and the blanket was still wrapped around my furniture. No one is giving me any Owners name for the Los Angeles or New Jersey hub, and I've been trying to get this straightened out for a year. I still have all their blankets and everything is still unwrapped. I will not unwrap anything until this is straightened out. I was told by other managers that they should not have left my things wrapped because they are to take all of their items back to the company and most importantly they were suppose to let the customer (me) see my things before they left.

Description of Work: 3rd time using Oz in past 5 years. August 2012 move was transcontinental move from NY to LA using their less-than-truckload express service. Fast, professional movers in NY quickly packed up my 1 BR apartment, and delivered 1 week later in LA's south bay. No breakage, full inventory received.

In responding to an ad on Craig's List for free moving boxes, I noticed the boxes all said OZ MOVING AND STORAGE on them. The owners had moved from NYC to Culver City, CA and were so pleased w/OZ that we decided to check them out along with 4 other moving companies. Right from the start, it was an awesome experience! Shawn Woods, the relocation consultant, was friendly, positive, and knowledgeable - head over heels better than the other company representatives we talked to. I found myself hoping his bid would be at least close to the others, so that I would have an excuse to hire him. It was ... slightly below the average of the 4 bids. What's interesting is that OZ MOVING bases everything on cubic space used, not weight, and in our case it seemed to help keep the costs down. When we called weeks later to tell Shawn to add many items, because what we'd planned to sell on Craig's List didn't sell, he adjusted the price up quickly and with a very modest increase. Communication was outstanding t/o the process. The 3 movers finished the job in 4 1/2 hours, earlier than planned. Very thorough and very careful w/our fragile boxes. (we packed most of the goods ourselves. When I expressed concern about extra cost because of the huge amount of tape they were using to protect the boxes, they pointed out that the tape was already included in the bid. Delivery was also excellent - the goods arrived 9 days later, on schedule, with no problems. Again, excellent communication in keeping us posted on the whereabouts of the goods t/o the move.

Description of Work: I can't express how uterly disappointing we were with Oz Moving& Storage. My wife thoroughly researched moving companies for our move from LA to NYC. We chose Oz because they specialized in this type of move and their prices was among the lowest. We have been through several moves and didn't think it could be this bad. Some of the examples: they broke a leg each on an expensive living room chair living room chair and dining room chair; packed a large piece of glass in between severeal large pictures without wrapping any of them (the glass was broken and both picutes damaged); lost our router; dmaged our safe (as if someone dropped it on the sidewlak; scratched our 1950s dresser; scratched the floor in several places in our new apartment; put the headboard on backwards on our bed; didn't put together our kitchen racks (claimed they couldn't find the pieces); broke the legs on both a large bed and side table. I am sure I am forgetting many, many other damaged things. It was not just one or two individuals that did this, but most of the crew. The guys in NYC seemed very surprised that Oz did the packing. But the NYC guys scracthed our apartment's floors and didn't put together several pieces of furniture. One initially claimed he didn't know how to put together a bunkbed (he also couldn't find one of the important bolts connecting the bed). We took out insurance on the move, but the deductible is $1000. So our $6,500 move will cost us at least $7,500. Plus lots of grief, anger and disappointment. IT'S A REAL GAMBLE TO USE THIS COMPANY. BUYER BEWARE!

Went very smoothly.
Description of Work: We used this mover both for us personally and for a client who needed their furnishings moved into a POD so that we might stage their home before it was put on the market. Excellent service both times. Professional, well priced. Will definitely use them again.

Everything about OZ Movers from start to finish was a positive experience. They are one of the few movers I found which charges by space instead of by weight. This means that they are able to give you a much more precise estimate. I found their prices to be on the low to middle side of all the estimates I received. The only hiccup I had was that on moving day they were a couple hours later than I initially expected them to be. But once they got there, everything was loaded up very quickly. I ended up having more than we had initially estimated, and I was worried that that was when they would stick me with the extra cost. But nope... the additional cost was very reasonable. Additionally, they made sure all the boxes were securely fastened, wrapped all the furniture, and boxed mirrors and breakables. And this was all included in the original quote. The only other slight problem was when it came time for delivery: they got here so fast that I hadn't gotten moved into my new apartment yet. But they were able to deliver things to another location with no trouble. If I ever do a cross country move again, they would be the first people I would call.
Description of Work: I used OZ Moving for a move from Orange County, California to Atlanta, GA. I had about a studio apartment's worth of stuff to move.
