+ -1 moreNina offered practical and cost-effective solutions to my needs. She is a good listener and so can quickly pinpoint what a customer wants. Her extensive experience allows her to suggest multiple options for each problem. I found her to be respectful of one's budget constraints while at the same time making one aware of the possibilities. Nina definitely loves her work and will share all that she knows with you. When contacting her, if you have to leave a message, know that she will get back to you as soon as possible, as she is very conscientious. I consider her to be an invaluable resource, and I would not hesitate to use her services again.
Description of Work: Nina provided consulting and design advice on a very problematic garden, with a variety of exposures, soil types, and irrigation sources.

She is very thorough and detailed and looks at a variety of aspects frwhat can be done to make my patio a more enjoyable setting. She came out and did a consult at a flat rate (and stayed longer than the hour I paid for). I knew right away she was what I needed. She is not into getting you to spend a lot of money but she is into quality and will give you sound advice. There is no pressure from her and I have worked with her on my schedule at my pace with no problem.
Description of Work: Helped me redesign my back patio garden and is incredibly knowledgeable about what plants will work long term in my area and how to enhance the look. My plants are now healthier than ever and Ive gotten rid of things that were a lot of work and were never going to do well. Walking through the nurseries with her is amazing. She knows what not to buy and why! I wish I had known her years ago. It would have saved me thousands in plants and wrong soils etc!

+ -1 moreNina first came and did an assessment of my climbing roses, which were a mess. She gave an fairly tight approximate estimate of time and money and she said we had to wait until later in the season to do the pruning. She emailed me around that time and we set up a day for her to come when I would be home. She came and taught me how to prune the roses properly and we did all five plants together in an hour and a half or so. (I thought it would take all day.) But, once I realized what a great resource she was, we began discussing other aspects of my garden and she knew about virtually EVERY plant (some of which are not so common). She is coming again soon to help me move some plants around and do a redesign of the open space. She even emailed me some ideas in pictures that she had up with. Nina is enthusiastic, fun to be with, and very professional.
Description of Work: Nina is the best! I sought her out for help with my climbing roses--she's an expert on roses--and, when she came, I worked along side her and she was more than willing to instruct me so that I could learn to work with the roses on my own. But, it's gone far beyond that. Nina knows all about most of the plants in my yard which are a strange mix of drought-tolerant and not so much, and helped me to figure out many aspects as to why my garden is not doing what I want it to do--including knowing how to use the computerized drip system I had installed but don't really get at all. The best part is working with Nina. I love to work in the garden with someone who loves to be there, too, instead of some husband who is doing me a favor. She was come at least twice, and I want her to come as often as I can afford, like twice a month, to help me create the garden space I have been wanting for years! and I think she can do it.

+ -1 moreShe has been working for me since 2004. My regular gardener that comes in every week doesn't have the expertise that she has. I haven't compared her prices. She is excellent. When she gets a little busy, it can be a few days before she comes out but if I have an emergency, she always responds. She is always on time.
Description of Work: Nina Rumely Garden Design does landscape design and garden maintenance for me. She does my rose pruning and general stuff in my garden that requires expertise beyond the weekly gardener because I have a very complicated garden. It is an English Cottage garden which is extremely complicated. I have 20 roses.

+ 0 moreI've worked with her for over ten years. She's extremely knowledgeable. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in horticulture. We work together to build a great organic garden, and she manages a crew to do all the work. She's happy with to do small projects, which is hard to find in LA.
