Had a great conversation with David, the owner, before setting up a service date. Alfedo showed up when scheduled and he was extremely personable. After Alfredo left I realized that the nickle platted fixture I had bought was scratched. I spoke to Rebecca at the Mr. Handyman office and told her about my dilemma - she then scheduled Alfedo to come back to my house and replace the fixture (I bought a new one) without charge. Definitely will call them again!

I had ceiling tile in my shower placed...bought glass tile which I didn't realize until the contractor got to the house and saw what I had would cost more to place then originally quoted over the phone. The contractor did a beautiful job considering all the cuts he had to make and he was very polite and super clean in regards to his work area. It took longer then we expected and the bill was higher then we expected but have to lay most of the blame on myself for buying the kind of tile I did. Am very happy with the work....bill was just more then I had initially budgeted for....
Description of Work: I had glass tile place placed on my shower ceiling. Unless you are prepared to pay a lot more for installation don't buy glass tile...no matter how pretty...just the cutting time alone increases the price of contract work substancely.

We loved the fact that we were given all the information up front on their pricing schedule. Alfredo, who is just a delight, had the skills, work ethic and was prepared and prompt. He delivered in every way. Doug and Peg, Westchester
Description of Work: My husband and I are delighted to have found such a great service for a variety of household needs. We used Mr Handyman for sanding and texturing dry wall, painting the dry wall and another area of our kitchen, for hanging double rod curtains and finally for assembling a TV stand and set up of the T.V. and surround sound system. The work was done on three separate visits.

My interactions with them in the past were great. Hence, I used them again few months back. They were super professional. They got back to me on time. They were very careful about all the details and made sure that everything was taken care of. They provided guarantee for their work. They confirmed that they would come back and fix things if there was an issue, without any charge. They did the job well and cleaned up the work area. I was happy with their work. The crew was a bit late during their previous visit but everything else was great. The price was a bit high but it was worth paying them because they did extensive background checks and criminal checks on their crew. So, it was safe to have the crew in the house as I had children in the house while the work was going on.
Description of Work: I used the services of Mr Handyman in May for bathroom repairs and plumbing.
I used him for several things like installation of windows. I was very pleased with his service. He was excellent. His price was fair. He was very professional, he showed up on time. There were some problems but he, along with his crew, resolved it. They even stayed late. Their charges were very straightforward. I spent over $2000 on the work. They did a lot of work. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Mr. Handyman a month ago. He replaced a bathroom window, did some tiling work in the bathroom, installed utilities and medicine cabinets and did some painting work.

I called Mr. Handyman and someone came out the next day. He was efficient and very courteous (even word "booties" to spare my rug). He took the lamp apart and discovered that not only the wiring (and plug) was not functioning, but the wiring in the outlet was also bad. He fixed everything in 2 hours. His price was high compared to another local handyman I called, but that person could not come for two weeks. Overall, I was satisfied.

Very happy. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: An all-glass medicine cabinet came away from the wall and was hanging precariously over the sink. Their office help were helpful and the service provider came out quickly and removed it, and we made plans for the installation of a new one. They were responsive, professional, friendly and courteous. We've had bad experiences with other companies and other handymen, so it was a great relief to deal with someone who took care of the job.

Everything went well. I was quite satisfied with the work, although the cost was a bit high.
Description of Work: General handyman work, including painting, minor repairs, etc.
Very well. Mr. Handyman's employee (Torrino) was awesome. He was very fast and thorough. Everything from the phone operator to the servicemen was great with Mr. Handyman. My tenant was extremely happen.
As a part of Escrow for the sale of my house, I needed to have 2 water heaters strapped and secured in case of an earthquake. I also needed to have the water heater in my garage raised at least 18 inches due to State of California Code. Mr. Handyman sent out someone that did the required work quickly and efficiently. There was a problem with the galvanized pipe in the garage. The worker, cut a hole in the wall, replaced the worn pipe and did an excellent job drywalling and plastering the cut hole where he did the repair. All done in record time. Thanks to Mr. Handyman, the house had all contingencies removed and I am on my way to Honolulu!!!!

I will always, always keep Mr. Handyman's number handy. I'm a single, female homeowner and landlord, so I need someone available for all manner of jobs around the house, big or small. I've called David and his crew on a couple of occasions and they have proved themselves to be reliable, efficient and professional. And beyond that, they're trustworthy. On the last occasion, I was not able to be present for the repair. Some months later, I had a question about it, so I asked David for further explanation. He responded quickly and with a thorough email response taking me through exactly what transpired. This sort of care and attention to customer relations goes a long way in my book. To me, Mr. Handyman represents more than just a handyman service, they represent peace of mind!
Description of Work: My tenants reported a problem with their stackable washer and dryer units. The repairman (from another company) who came over to fix the washer, refused to re-stack the units, and left the area in complete disarray. Since I was out of town at the time, I called Mr. Handyman to help re-stack the units, reassemble the closet door, and clean up the surrounding area. They were prompt, professional, and got the job done.
The job went very well. We had missing parts of our brick facade as well as an outdoor brick wall that needed to be cleaned and re-painted. They were able to accomplish the cleaning and painting work within the time frame they noted and right on budget. There was a slight delay in getting the missing bricks replaced, but it was only because Mr Handyman was going "above and beyond" the call of duty in finding matching brick, not just using "something close" and not giving up because the brick was difficult to find. During the brick search, they gave us periodic updates on the search progress and new final completion dates. When all was complete, the price was right on budget the work looks great! We have used this company on multiple occasions for several different jobs on our multi-unit condominium property. They are our go-to company for general handyman needs.
Description of Work: Pressure cleaning and painting of outside wall and the installation/replacement of broken outdoor brick work.

The telephone contact people were courteous, sincere and explained clearly their prices and how their services worked. The actual handyman came to give me an estimate ($59, which is applied towards the work should you go forward). I decided to use their service, and when the handyman returned (same person who gave the estimate, which I think is important) he had all the necessary parts with him. Also, he realized that it would be inconvenient to have to reattach the hose whenever I wanted to use it, and it would be bulky to store without a container. He happened to have a new bucket that worked perfectly to store the hose it, and he gave it to me gratis. He arrived on the dot for the estimate. For the job, he was 10 minutes late due to traffic, but he called me from the freeway as soon as he realized he wouldn't be right on time to tell me he was running a bit late.
Description of Work: Needed water system valve installed under kitchen sink to attach an indoor coil hose to. Needed window shutter frame reattached at one corner. Needed new toilet flapper installed. Need tub drain stopper fixed.

Over the telephone, the person that I spoke with said that it sounded like this could all be done in 8 hours but the worker would assess the work and give a better estimate upon his arrival. He arrived and stated that all work could be done in 8 hours but that he had somewhere else to go at 2:30 pm so he would have to come back on a different day. After speaking to the office contact, she instructed him to stay to perform all the work in one day. He began the work at 8:30 am and at approximately 10:45 am he told me that he didn't think he would get all of the work done as he had predicted. He said that he would go to lunch at 11:30 am and upon his return he would install the vent in the bathroom. Up to this point, he had done a coat on the hallway, a coat on the closet and installation of a light switch to operate two sconces. I made it clear that the bedroom and bathroom patching were a priority and that he should eliminate the vent installation all together. I told him that the patching work was the most important. He said that he would see how it went and maybe he would be able to get it all done. I repeated, if you can get all of the patching work done, then we can go ahead with the vent, otherwise forget it. I even told him that the closet and hallway weren't a priority over the bedroom and bathroom so if he didn't have time, not to do a second coat on them. I had to leave a couple of times and when I was gone the second time, he proceeded to install the vent. Upon my return, he was nearly finished with it and he told me that he wouldn't finish all of the work. I asked if the patching in the bathroom and bedroom were finished and he said no. I was furious and I called the office and explained the situation. To review, out of the items on the "to do" list, the following was completed: installation of the switch for the sconces (included electrical work and patching of wall), one coat of mud on the hallway, one coat on the closet spots (versus entire walls), drywall patch and one coat of mud in bedroom, one coat of mud in bathroom, and the partial installation of the vent. Still to be completed: another coat of mud on bedroom wall, hallway, closet, bathroom, stucco repairs, installation of backsplash on stove, and ventilation of fan from attic. I told the office he made sure to start everything and finish only one thing: the light switch / electrical work. The worker proceeded to get belligerent with me and with the office. He was swearing, threatening to quit and telling them that I changed my story - basically calling me a liar right in front of me. I immediately confronted him by saying that he was lying and he went outside and proceeded to carry on. He was rude to me and he was rude to the person at the office. In my opinion, he should have been fired but he still works for them. They charge $59 for a trip charge, $110 per hour but a two hour minimum rate (1st 2 hours $279) so when telling a client at 8am, that all work can be done in 8 hours is a pretty big deal. The office agreed to discount the job by $169 (trip charge and one hour) and we scheduled a return visit by a different worker. The owner and the previous worker continued to claim that it would only take two hours to complete the rest of the work. The worker arrived and assessed the job and said that it would take another 4-6 hours. I was furious because again, I wanted the first guy to start only the work that could be completed in one 8-hour day. He called the office and the office called me to apologize and offer another $169 off the job. The guy worked for 2 hours and barely completed anything. He did a second coat of mud on the bedroom wall, the bathroom wall and some of the hallway. Afterward, the owner continued to email and call me with excuse after excuse why the first guy did what he did and it became nauseating. I finally sent them payment for 6.5 hours with $15 for materials. I deducted 3 hours for the time it took the guy to install the vent that I told him not to install. The owner then proceeded to send me another long and nauseating email. At first I didn't read it and then my husband encouraged me to. One thing caught my eye...the owner actually said that he thinks I should still pay more and remarked that he has my credit card number and could run it if he wanted but he is not like that. The audacity!
Description of Work: Install a light switch to operate two sconces, install a backsplash on a stove, install a vent in a bathroom, exterior stucco repairs, patch and mud one bedroom wall, one bathroom wall, a hallway and a closet.

Response from Mr. Handyman serving West Los Angeles
We were very sorry to learn that the member was dissatisfied with the work we did for her. We always endeavor to provide the best quality service to all of our customers and we believe this is evidenced by our Super Service Award. In fairness to the member, we were not at our best the day we came to work for her. First of all, the estimate we gave her over the phone was a bit short. That doesn’t happen often, but when some parts of the job are unclear (e.g.: how far are we pulling wire for the sconces, etc.) it can happen. Fortunately, within an hour or two, the technician informed Mrs. Henry we’d need more time. But then, unfortunately, he misunderstood her priority list and wound up starting work on her exhaust fan when she wanted him to continue working on the drywall repair. I then spoke to her on the phone and agreed to discount her job significantly, based on the misunderstanding of the priority list. We re-arranged our schedule to send a different technician the next day to finish the drywall repair, and I included another discount. But then we ran into complications with the venting of the exhaust fan. At that point, the member decided she preferred not to have us finish the work. Later we disagreed about what we thought she should pay for the work we did. In the end, I accepted the payment she made as payment in full – even though I disagreed with her on the amount. I’m still confused as to why the member found it upsetting that I pointed out to her that I let her pay what she determined to be a fair amount. Bottom line, we were very unhappy to leave a customer feeling this way about our services. We gave her even more than we thought was fair – because we operate under the assumption that the customer is always right. We assure our customers that we will continue to work harder than any other company to achieve their complete satisfaction. This is just one of the many reasons we are the number one handyman company in the country and earned the Super Service Award with our A rating.

They were quite good. It was a little more expensive than what I expected. They were very professional and prompt. They did a great job. They were able to come early in the morning before I had to leave for work. He was here before seven in the morning, which was nice. They were the only company that could do that. The price included parts and labor.

This is an amendment to a report I wrote a few weeks ago, in which I complained about an incorrect initial estimate. After discussing mutual misunderstandings and mis-communications of what the job was going to entail and after an adjustment was made in the price I feel much more satisfied with my experience with Mr. Handyman. I was particularly impressed with their responsiveness to my dissatisfaction. I never had any complaint about the quality of the work: it was first-rate.

Overall it was a good experience. The price & price structure were rather high for this kind of job but I was on a deadline to do the work for a rental unit and they were available. They quoted a price rate & estimate over the phone and told me the technician will give me a firm written estimate on arrival at the job but it didn't happen. I was initially charged a premium for sandpaper used by technician (they didn't tell me about this before starting the job); however they knocked it down when I complained about it. The technician's job was satisfactory, but he didn't quite follow through on the level of communication I was given to expect. On the other hand, the office staff was very courteous and professional over the phone and ultimately everything was worked out reasonably. My only reservations are the high price structure (around $110 per hr for a relatively low-skill job, plus a startup charge of around $300), and the feeling of anxiety over the clock ticking while the first coat of paint was drying etc. Of course this was the rate I agreed to, so I had no legitimate complaint. And the tech did come back a second day to finish the second coat rather than charge to watch the paint dry. I would use them again but only for high-skill jobs.

He did a good job. Spent a while on the patio eve and ceiling which I thought would go more quickly but it was in bad shape. In the future, I may hire a slightly less expensive team to handle some of this work where skill isn't as much required but it was nice to have the front done right, despite the length of time. He did work through a problem with one of the light fixtures, so his skill was evident and appreciated. I can't complain though because he was working continuously, just tough for one guy.

We were impressed by our handyman's (Taurino) punctuality, cleanliness and speed. We had gotten a quote from another company that this would cost double what Handyman estimated so we were concerned with quality. We were pleasantly surprised that Taurino paid close attention to the details when making the cut out and David Silverman (the owner) called me several times to give me options on making doors for the the remaining cabinets. We were so pleased we used them again for a larger project.

It went very well. We had a number of little things for him to handle and he did each one well. We never had to worry about the quality of the work. We were nervous about the pressure washer removing stucco but he knew what he was doing so no problems there. We also were concerned about our gutter-like solution. We didn't want full gutters so our handyman suggested just redirecting the water. Good solution at a fraction of the time and money of installing true gutters.
Description of Work: Cut, installed and painted access panel through ceiling to crawlspace. Changed a baseboard. Patched cracks in patio ceiling. Pressure-washed front. Installed metal gutter-like solution to prevent water from running down side of house. Followed up on work down previously with garbage disposal and water purifier tubing leak. He also went to get the materials and picked up and returned the pressure washer.
