Jeff Williams was very knowledgeable and willing to spend the time to answer all our questions. He and his staff were very courteous, professional and responsive. This was a big project for us and we spoke with several contractors before selecting JW Heating & Air. Their price was not the cheapest but it was very competitive and we felt Jeff provided us the most useful and in-depth information and materials to make our decision. And we felt that he and his staff had all the skills to address our needs and ensure a good installation. The project went on time and at the agreed upon pricing and it all went very smoothly and we are very happy. Everything works just as they said it would.
Description of Work: JW Heating & Air installed a new heating/AC unit on our roof and also evaluating our other two units.

The Job went very well. Jeff Williams and two of his installers, Austin and Chad were at the house before their 7am start date on Monday. I noticed they stayed in their vehicles until 7am sharp, their normal start time. Jeff explained to me as well as his installers what the job entailed, and the guys went right to work. They removed of all of the old duct work, which was the hardest part, as far as I could tell, as it all needed to be removed via the crawl space access to the attic then taken to the back yard where it was later hauled away by them, JW Heating and Air. They removed a truck load of used duct work through the house and were good to keep my hardwood floors covered for protection and cleaned up their mess as they went along. The debris was hauled away that day. The entire job was completed in three days. This included them having a roofing company come out to redo the roof around where the new platform was installed to set the unit on. They took special care and time to place the new air return away from the rooftop unit to keep any air flow or unit noise to a minimum. Austin and Chad were great. They were always on time, pleasant, professional, and cleaned up everyday before leaving. I felt comfortable leaving them in my home when I was gone. Since they needed to cut into my newly plastered ceilings to install the new air registers, I was very concerned about them messing them up, but nothing was damaged at all. The unit runs much more quietly than the old heating unit and I am very pleased that the installation went as planned with no problems. Jeff even recommended an insulation company which I have now hired which will be insulating the tiny attic area in about a week. I highly recommend JW Heating and Air.
Description of Work: Removed all old duct work from very tight attic area, replaced with new duct work and added 3 new air registers. Removed old forced air heating unit from inside the home. Replaced with new Ruud heater/ air conditioner installed on roof top of 2nd story. Also added exhaust attic fan as well as a High Efficiency Media Filter.

The job was completed on time at the estimated cost. In fact, after the job was completed and paid for,I discovered that there was a coupon equal to $300 available to Angies' list members. I brought this to the owner's attention and without any hesitation,he approved the discount. That's what you call honestly and living by your word.
Description of Work: I received the estimate from a very knowledgible gentleman. He explained how the system worked and the the advantages of each type of A/C units. The installation techicians arrived at our home exactly at 7AM as promised and completed the job well within the estimated time. In short, the company and its employees are very professional, knowledgible and most importantly people of intergity. I'll use this company again if need be and I highly recommend them.

The first time they came out we simply had the A/C serviced as we had just purchased this house. We realized that we were not getting enough air to the second story and Jeff really worked some possible solutions that were cost effective and made sense. They ducted the house and moved a couple of vents around to get as much out of the current system and that was an improvement but ultimately we had to add a second unit. So a year later he came out and assessed how things were going and made a few additional recommendations. Jeff is a very good communicator and when I told him how impressed I was with the team that had been out last year he made sure they came back. From beginning to end everyone at JW has been great and I will always call them when we have A/C needs. Jeff understood that initially we were not ready to add a second unit and really spent the time with us to find the right solution that worked for us.
Description of Work: We had JW come out three different times. Not because they didn't do a good job, but because they did such a great job and we did things in steps. The first was a basic service and tune up of our A/C unit, the next was a re-ducting of the house, and the third was adding a second unit for the second story.

JW came out right when they said they would and even provided me with a courtesy call to let me know they were coming 20 minutes out. The technician Brian was a very nice guy and did a great job. He was the kind of tech that would honestly tell you- no, you dont need that, that will just be a waste of money. Very refreshing considering I know nothing about air conditioning and would gladly pay for something that would increase our efficiency out here in the hot West Valley. Brian simply recharged the freon and charged me reasonably for the work and the freon. I will definitely be calling them again in the future should I need help with the AC. Thanks for taking care of the situation at a fair price and doing it expeditiously. I know you guys are busy in this pre-summer season and you still got out here quickly. My kids can sleep well now and you didnt take advantage of my urgent situation. Thank you.

We needed to have a heater/ac unit installed in our second home. The house currently did not have a/c, but did have an old heater that was installed in the 1970's. Besides being old, some of the connections were not within code. We needed the install to be completed while we were in town. Due to the quick turn around, I needed to schedule an appointment on 3/16 or 3/17. We were advised that they don't usually schedule Saturday appointments. However, the person who would be sent wanted to make the appointment for 7am. We agreed. George Magnani, from JW did not show up until 8am. We showed him what we wanted to do and advised him of the time constraint. During the meeting he showed no enthusiasm and didn't ask many questions. We felt like it was an imposition for him to show up on a Saturday. He completed some minor paperwork and said he would provide us with an estimate. Based on what transpired, we figured we would probably not receive a written estimate and we didn’t. We never heard from anyone at JW again. Based on the reviews on Angie’s List, this is the last thing that I expected to happen. I don’t know what the disconnect was, but if they could not meet our deadlines, they should have stated that fact at the beginning. Very disappointing.

I had a great experience using this company and the end result is stellar. My 4 ton air conditioning unit of roughly 20 yrs was on the fritz, and with the California heat coming I had to replace it quick. I had another company come out to give an appraisal. We had a split system -- the 4 ton air conditioning unit was out back and the heating system was in a closet in the house. The other company that came out didn't measure or do anything and simply stated that a new system would be 7 grand. He said he could use the existing ducts that he didn't even bother going up to the attic to inspect. I did not feel comfortable nor in good hands. So, after joining Angie's list and perusing myriad reviews praising JW Heating & Air, I scheduled an appointment. The owner Jeff came out -- a down-to-earth, good-natured fellow -- and walked me through the entire process. He measured, brought photos, brochures, informed me more about his company, his solid crew who've working for him for over 15yrs, his top tier rating in the country for installations, etc. I felt in good hands. We opted to get a new unit and put the air conditioning on the roof and the heating system in the attic, which was great because it freed up that downstairs closet where the heater had been to be a pantry or whatever.Initially, I was looking for American Standard but after consulting with Jeff felt comfortable with the 5 Ton Ruud system. It has a 16 SEER rating and 10 yr warranty, and all rebates were taken off the top! That means they deal with recouping the money. Pretty sweet. oh yeah, and they knocked 300 right off the top for being on Angie's list.We discussed a two-stage system that Jeff recommended (the 3 Ton/5 Ton) but decided not to because we had to cut costs somewhere. Jeff's crew was punctual, fast and efficient and even finished a day early. Everyone was friendly and professional and it went as smoothly as you could hope something like this to go. My house was built in 1935 and it always got extremely hot because many of the wall don't have insulation. Even when my old a/c system worked it didn't cool the house entirely on really hot days. But now, after JW Heating and Air installation it is frrrreeezing if I want it to be. I didn't think it was possible. Almost too cold. (Jeff did suggest to get the two-stage system; I should've listened). Still I am sooo pleased. Bottom line: I have great people I feel comfortable with; they stand by their work; they're among the best in the country; super friendly and accommodating.
Description of Work: They replaced my heating and air system, replaced all the ducts, installed a damper and installed another air return. The 4 ton a/c unit out back was exchanged for 5 ton put on the roof, and the heating system that was in a closet in the house was moved up to the attic, freeing up lots of space for us to create a pantry or whatever. All the new duct work hangs from the ceiling in the attic and they put a plywood floor in up there too with a light, so when anyone goes up there for maintenance they can now simply flick on the light and stroll across the floor to the unit. Before that there was nasty mishmash of ducts strewn every which way on the floor, doublebacked over itself, and no way for workers, electricians or whomever to walk up there without stepping over and crushing the ducts. It was a bad scene. They also installed a plywood floor and ceiling in the closet downstairs where the heating unit had been, and they removed the ac unit from out back.A damper with a separate thermometer was installed to control air flow to the back portion of the house.

rBryan came to our residence and diagnosed the issue, and told me I would need a new motor. Because of the age of the heater, and because Bryan had already made some calls, it looked as if we were going to have to purchase a new unit. Before Bryan left, he told me that he would keep on looking for the part and would call me back, as he did the beginning of the next week. It was funny as I was meeting with my Real Estate agent, she was amazed at how professional Bryan was, and that he was wearing protective booties to protect our wooden floors. Well, it turns out that he was able to locate the part and installed it, the heater/furnace sounds great. Thank you Bryan
Description of Work: Had a very noisy heater, worked great, just sounded like a hurricane was in the house when it was on. Bryan came on time and diagnosed the issue, and started looking for the part. Part was located, another service date was scheduled and completed. Do'sprofessional, wore protective booties, always had a smile, even after being in the attic (very hot). Don'tsnone

I can't speak highly enough about our experience. They showed up on time and did the work. There was only one problem due to a lack of communication between Jeff and his crew which resulted in a large hole being cut in the side of our house for a heating vent pipe which we were told would be going into our chimney. Aside from that the whole job was done very well and the system works great. Thanks Jeff.

Everything went as expected. I had to wait several days before the work could be performed due to rain which came two days later and a previous job which kept him busy on Friday. We spent an uncomfortable weekend as warmer humid weather moved in but that was not his falt. In January we called another company to come out for a system inspection which I feel they did a poor job of, as they did not go up on the roof but just looked at the thermostat, vents, fuse box, and electrical outlets. When the water started dripping inside, we decided to join Angies List and get a more reliable referral. We are so glad we did.
Description of Work: A/C was dripping water inside home, called and Jeff (owner) came out, did an inspection and explained the problem and gave a quote to repair. He could not complete job until the following Monday but he did show up on time as promised. He was very professional, and friendly. He cleaned up after himself and showed me the worned part that he replaced. He actually came in under the original quote of $900.00 to $l,000.00 and remembered to deduct the 99.00 service charge from the 1st visit and honored the Angie coupon for an additional 25.00. I was impressed with his professionalism but also his warm attitude toward honesty and doing a job well each time.He explained the best way to opperate the unit to obtain the lowest energy consumption, said to call if we had any questions or problems. I would definitely use this company again, and refer him to anyone who needs these services. l

Sales person John, visited the house, joined later by owner, Jeff. We walked the job site. After investigation, John sized up the system and presented a number of options. After some further investigation on my part, we decided on the system described above, negotiated a price and signed a contract. One potential problem clearly communicated from the beginning was the adequacy of power to the studio. Electricity was supplied through 1930s era cloth-bound wires running underground through what is known as "black pipe" conduit. I communicated to both John and Jeff that I questioned the adequacy of the power and/or whether the circuit was properly grounded, as there had long been an intermitent hum in the line. After looking at the wires running into the subpanel, Jeff said he thought it would be okay. Later, before I signed the contract, John assured me that he would have an electrician check everything out before the installation in the studio got underway. On the Friday before the week installation was to begin, a crew arrived to remove the asbestos. This went off smoothly, except for two things. First, it was not communicated to me that the crew was only removing the asbestos, and that the furnace was going to be removed later. This was straightened out with a phone call. The other issue, not discovered until later, was that as a part of the asbestos job, plastic was taped over the existing registers. As it turned out, the masking tape used was not "paint safe", so that when it was removed, some paint came off with it. Under the contract, re-painting of damaged areas was not included, so I had to take care of it. More about this later. At 7:00 am Monday morning, the installation crew arrived, and I can't say enough about these guys. The crew chief was a guy named Shawn (sp?). Ask for him if you decide to go with JW. He was a true professional, as were his helpers. Everything about their work was first rate. When problems arose, they figured away around them. There was, however, a problem with John, the salesman, and a subcontractor electrician. The way the installation goes, the registers are put in first, then the the mechanical system is installed, then the ducts are run, and finally the electrician hooks up the power. In this case, the electrician arrived late and in a hurry. He worked the first half day to pull power to the unit in the attic, then he took off. In the meantime, John, the salesman, did not communicate to him that he needed to check the power in the studio before the mini-split system was installed. By the time the electrician arrived back to supply power to that system, the system had already been installed. Are you ready to guess what happened next? The power wasn't adequate, as I had feared all along. Not only that, but it would be impossible to pull new wires through the old conduit because the old wires were stuck in place and he was afraid he would break them if he pulled too hard. The electrician told me my only option was to run new conduit from the main panel, perhaps 60 feet away. This would require digging up my rock garden and lawn, ripping out part of a brick pathway, and breaking several holes in the studio wall. For this he quoted $2,400 -- not including the excavation. Oh, and there was a little problem with the scheduling. The first time he could get to the job would be sometime later in the month. What followed was a long back-and-forth with John. I understood that under the contract I was responsible for supplying power to the job. My problem with what happened was that they had not checked out the power first. If they had done what they said they would do, I would have had a chance to pull the plug on the job. I told John that an additional $2,400 plus back yard destruction were not in the cards. We agreed it was time to get a second opinion from the Electric Connection (which we had both used before). A guy named Hugo came out and looked things over. In his opinion the black pipe conduit was probably still good, so he suggested that we make an effort to get the old wire out. This would be at my risk, however. So, we came up with a Plan A and a Plan B. Plan A was that we'd get the old wire out of the conduit and run a new 50 amp service through it. Plan B was that if the wire broke, we'd run temporary power to the studio while we ran new conduit under a loose laid brick patio to provide the 50 amp service. Cost for Plan A was $1495. Cost for Plan B was $500 higher. To make a LONG story short, through the heroic efforts of an electrician by the name of Alex at Electric Connection (write that name down - he's the best electrician I've come across) - we got the old wire out, and the rest of the electrical work went off without a hitch. Part of JW's agreement is that they will repair damage resulting from the installation, except that they don't have to repair final finishes and/or painting. Because some holes were punched in the studio wall to run new wiring, John came back to patch the holes. He did a creditable job, but when he was gone, I discovered that one of the tempered glass windows in a french door near where he was working was shattered. When I called him on it, John swore up and down he hadn't done it. I couldn't prove he did it, so I let the matter drop. But I'd say the odds that shattered window was caused either by John, the electricans (who were subcontractors of JW), or a combination of John and the electricians, is 85-95%. I spent $20,000 with these guys; in my opinion, they should have fixed the d*** window. In closing I would say that JW does great work, but that doesn't mean you don't have to watch what they're doing. Also, I would question them about who they're using as an electrical subcontractor. Ask for Alex at Electric Connection (apparently JW used to use them, but got a lower price from the guy who showed up the first time) . Be aware that when the installation is done, you'll probably need to touch up the paint. And if there's something you have a particular concern about MAKE SURE YOU GET IT IN WRITING!
Description of Work: 1. Existing asbestos wrapped ducts and gas-powered gravity furnace were removed; existing floor and wall registers were capped.2. New 4 ton high efficiency Ruud HVAC system and Aprilaire electronic air cleaner were installed in attic space (roof mounted condenser); new vinyl ducts and ceiling registers were installed.3. Separate 1 1/2 ton LG mini-split system was installed in a detached studio.

Do you ever work with someone you wish could do more work on your house beyond what their services offer? That's how I felt after working with JW Heating and Air. What a great company! Super responsive from the get-go, very punctual, explained all my options and issues, and helped me pick out the perfect new, energy efficient and quiet unit for our home. We'd had a furnace and new gas line installed, as well as duct work, by another contractor. JW Heating and Air came in some years later to finish the job for us with the new AC unit. They also cleaned our air vents, changed our filter, and restapled some sagging duct work more so it held up better. They also offered us financing through Wells Fargo which helped us tremendously, though what we paid for the project was already very reasonable. We really liked working with JW Heating and Air, and by the way, it is a small, family owned business and I liked supporting them because of that as well. Highly recommend, they set the standard.

Jeff came out and gave me the quote to replace my existing heating and air conditioning system. My house is two-story and approximately 4,000 sf and faces North. Depending on the position of the sun during the day, the East and West side room temperatures can vary substantially. I had a zone-system installed in another house that had a pitched roof in the front and flat roofs in the back and was very pleased with the results. I wanted a zone system in my current residence so that every room would be equally comfortable. The work was performed on schedule and the new system works fantastic.
Description of Work: Replaced existing heating and air conditioning system and installed 7 zones that can be controlled independently.

Jeff arrived for the estimate on time. We went over the worked involved and he gave me the estimate at that time. Jeff was able to schedule the work to begin the next day which was great. The damaged ducts were removed the following day (and also removed from our property) and on Friday the crew installed a better quality duct and completed the job that day. It was not an easy job. The guys never complained and were always pleasant to me when I would go downstairs to check on them. I know they worked longer that day than planned. Once they finished they check to make sure everything was working properly and the job was done. It couldn't have gone better. I've had a lot of work done on our old house over the years and working with JW Heating was a pleasure. I would definitaly call them again and have since referred them to friends.
Description of Work: I contacted JW Heating for an estimate to replace some damaged heating ducts in our crawl space.

The owner provided the original quote and checked in regularly. The teams were dedicated, courteous, and did an excellent job. They weren't the cheapest, but they were definitely the best.
