Contacted JW about replacing the air conditioner at our Santa Clarita home. They referred us to Rowland Air, a local Santa Clarita company. Rowland Air did a fantastic job and we couldn't be happier with the new system. Thanks to JW for giving us such a great referral!

Had a terrific experience working with John, Ramon and Ramon at JW Heating & Air. All three were professional and very helpful, and answered all our questions and concerns. Each took time to explain what they were doing, and whenever there was an issue that arose during the installation process they made sure to loop us in and keep us informed. Ramon and Ramon were on site the entire day for installation, but even though it was a Saturday, John was also available via cell phone for the entire day to answer any other specific questions we had. During the installation of the new ductwork it was discovered that the prior owner of the house (we just bought it) had hired someone to do extremely shoddy work on the HVAC system. The air intake grill inside the house wasn't an air intake at all, it was a false panel and the system was actually pulling in air from two vents leading outside of the house. So there was no way for them to hook up the air intake properly to the system, to get the air to recycle through. Rather than leave the job incomplete until they could come back to add a proper intake, they hooked everything up so that we had something functional that we could use, and then immediately set to work figuring out how best to solve the problem and add a new air intake. Even though the job wasn't 100% as planned, we're very happy with how the team handled everything and already have an appointment for them to come back and finish up the work we need to have done.
Description of Work: We had all of our HVAC ducting removed as part of an asbestos abatement project on the central air duct boots. There was also evidence of elevated mold spores in the ducting so we felt it wasn't worthwhile to save it, we would just get everything reinstalled once the asbestos abatement project was completed. John from JW came in and thoroughly examined all the aspects of our HVAC system and made his recommendation after taking into account our needs and preferences for how we would use the system. They came in last weekend to do the installation of the new ducting, and took the time at the end of the day to also test out the system to make sure there were no leaks.

It almost turned me against Angies List, as the a/c check deal from JW came with an indicator saying they were rated highly. I get the feeling that these guys use the "tune up" as an easy way to make some bucks, buy pretending to look over things and checking a couple basic things. Most people won't have problems and won't be the wiser. I have not purchased an Angies List deal since this one bad experience, but do rely on Angies List for reviews.
Description of Work: JW had an Angies List deal, the first and only one I have ever purchased. They promised an A/C tune up for $69. I was the new owner of a house, and summer was coming on so I thought this would be a good time to have the A/C checked to insure everything was ok with my system. The tune-up promised an examination of all air conditioning unit parts when I purchased it. They sent out a guy who was very personable, an older fellow but I don't remember his name. He examined the outdoor part of the unit. He also went inside the house and tested the temperatures. Then he said he was done and everything looked great. I mentioned to him that part of the a/c was in the attic, and showed him where the entry to the attic was located. He said, no, no, the only a/c you have is outside. He said that whatever was upstairs was old and probably not used as the "new" a/c unit was outside. As a first time home owner who knows nothing about A/C, I took his word for it. Fast forward about one month later during a heat wave. I notice brown water stains forming in the ceiling above my bedroom. Since it was summer, I was concerned because it had not rained in months. It turns out that the air conditioner part in the attic, above my bedroom, had been installed improperly and the condensation runoff had been building up for awhile. I called a different company, Carreon Heating and Air, who came out immediately and fixed it. I told them about the past inspection by JW and they said had the guy even stuck his head in the attic he would have seen that the unit/water drainage was installed at a slant causing this problem. I called JW back to tell them what happened. They sounded concerned at first. I left my name and number and asked for a refund. I never got a call back, so I called again. This time I went into much more detail, and explained that I was simply asking for $69 back as they did not do an A/C checkup fully as promised -- and that I really should ask them for the price of the repair by the other company, the mold test completed after the leak, and the replacement of drywall in the ceiling. They were fairly hostile, and said that it must have been something that happened after they visited. They did not refund my money, and after asking to speak to the owner regarding a refund, I never heard back from them again and gave up. I had actually forgotten about this bad experience until Angie's List just sent me a reminder to review the company. All in all, a horrible experience.

I had originally hired another company on June 25th. This other company was awful to deal with on every level, and they could not troubleshoot the problem. So I just started looking up other companies, and my second call was to JW Heating and Air. I am so glad I found them. From the first point of contact to the finish, they were total professionals. They came out the VERY NEXT DAY and arrived at 9am on the dot as they had promised. Ruddy, the technician assigned, knows a thing or two about AC systems and he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. He soon figured out that the previous company had totally misdiagnosed the issue. Not only did he fix it, he took the time to clean everything and left it in much better shape than when he arrived. It was nice to have someone there that seemed to want to fix the problem, was a straight shooter and knew how to communicate. Fair prices, excellent staff, promptness, expertise, courteousness, other service providers can learn a lesson from these guys. While I'm very grateful to have AC again, I'm mad as h*** at the other company because we suffered for 6 weeks through a wicked heat wave with no AC. I hope you learn from my misery and hire Jeff and his team for all your heating and cooling needs. I know I won't be going anywhere else!
Description of Work: They came out to trouble shoot our AC system which was not working very well. After about an hour, it would ice up and become useless. So they went through the whole system and found 2 problems which were fixed, and now the nightmare is over.

I called them when I discovered the drain was broken and they were supposed to come out the next day. I got a call the next day, during a heat wave, and they said they had a commercial job where the air conditioners had gone down and they needed to rally all their personnel. They said they would be out the next day. They called the next day and said they were still working on the commercial job. I called them on Wednesday and I didn’t see them until Saturday. They were supposed to be here at 9:00 in the morning and I was about to say “forget it.” He apologized and kept me informed but it still didn’t make life any easier. They ended up telling me they would be here around 2:30 in the afternoon. He didn’t come until 4:00 because he got held up on a job and the traffic was heavy. They finally did the job but they didn’t give me a discount or anything. I never had this done before but my gut feeling is they were a little on the high side. However, when you have water running down your furnace and flooding the basement, you’re not worried so much about the price. I understand that emergencies happen but I would have thought that since they had jerked me around they would have said that since I had to wait and they put me through all that, they were going to knock off 10% or something like that. He did a good job and it looks a lot better than it did before. He was very apologetic and at the mercy of other people besides me. I probably wouldn’t use them again.
Description of Work: I used JW Heating and Air in July. I had a condensation drain on my a/c unit that was broken. He replaced the drain. He had to chisel out the threaded coupling and replace it with a new one. He added a preformed pvc trap to an existing line to keep it together. The pipe was sagging so he put a metal strap on it so it wouldn’t break again. The material was $120 and the labor was $99.

I was given a 2-hour slot, from 2pm to 4pm. I was given a call by Denise a little past 3pm that my repair guy would be running late due to the work estimate on his current job and that he'd be at my place closer to 5pm. Understandable. Andy, the repair guy they sent, finally made it to my place a bit past 5:30pm. After showing Andy where my AC unit was and he had me turn the AC on and off from within my unit a few times. After he identified which AC unit on the roof belonged to me in my condo unit, he quickly found the problem - a blown fuse. Simple fix, which I was happy about. It had taken him around 30 minutes (which honestly, seemed long for something so simple). Andy then acted like he was doing me a huge favor by telling me this, how other repair people - even from JW - would try to rip me off. (So you deserve a pat on the back for being honest? Wow.) I told him the reason why I'd chosen JW Heating in the first place was because I'd read reviews of customers saying how informative and transparent the repair people were. When I asked how much the bill was, Andy said I owed $250. I was taken aback as the quote I'd received when I first called was that an hour-long diagnosis would cost $125; this diagnosis fee would then be applied toward any necessary repairs. Andy had been "working" for less than 30 minutes, certainly less than a full hour. When I clarified this, he first tried to justify it by saying that the $125 was for covering the diagnosis, and the extra $125 was for the repair done. You're saying you want to charge me a full hour for something that took way less time, and then another $125 for changing a fuse, Andy? Even he agreed that sounded ludicrous and he then stated that this was company policy for these fees, not up to him, Andy the honest repair guy. In any case, I reminded him that even if the 1-minute fuse change qualified as a repair, I was told the initial fee would be first applied towards any repairs. He then started to ask me, "Well, how much do you think it would be fair for you to pay?" and brought up that he had to drive a lot in between jobs. Somehow I guess he was insinuating that it was fair to factor in some drive time as part of the work time. Um, how about the obvious answer: the amount that was originally quoted by your company? During this time, I noticed that Andy had stopped writing on the initial work summary he'd started and had began a new one, writing different things into this one. I tried to get a price and justification from him and repeatedly got vague answers. After 20 minutes of going nowhere, I began to tell him that I'd be more comfortable just calling the office and resolving this directly. Andy started making strange excuses such as he was used to dealing with commercial customers and not residential customers (um, are you telling me commercial customers are ok with being overcharged?), and that he'd been driving a lot and was tired (and that has to do with the service fees your company charges how?). In the end, he said to forget the whole thing and not bother to call because I didn't have to pay anything and that he was just going to leave. As a side note, I should also mention that during our whole conversation, Andy would make some strange non-sequitur conversation choices, asking if I was the only person who lived in my place, what kind of car I drove, what I did for work and when I was usually home -- questions that over time began to make me feel pretty uncomfortable, like he was casing the place. Combined with this overcharging thing he tried to pull, the whole experience was very off-putting and left me with a very sleazy feeling. After following up with their front office about the incident, they said they'd look into it and respond. An hour later, I received a response that I should pay the initial $125 as quoted and they'd leave it at that. I was unhappy that they seemed to be brushing the whole thing under the rug but I told them fine, but I'd be writing a review of my experience. At that, they quickly said that Jeff, the owner, wanted to talk to me. Jeff insisted that me paying $125 was fair in order for them to cover their costs and because they'd gotten my AC working again, despite their repair guy's attempt to overcharge me. He attempted to make some justification that a $250 charge could have been warranted because Andy was technically at my location for an hour and a half, and that they charged $125/hour. Sure he was there for that time, I stated, but half of that was me trying to figure out the bill with him and another 15 minutes of that was me letting him in and showing him where the AC was located. And seriously, Jeff, $250 for a fuse change? After getting into more details of my experience with him, Jeff revealed that Andy was new and agreed the experience sounded frustrating. He mentioned that due to his business growing, he was unable to be everywhere at once and ensure the performance of every new employee, which I told him was understandable, but unfortunate. He offered to do two future maintenances for free. I told him that I appreciated his gesture but would be looking elsewhere if I needed service again. (Though talking to Jeff raised my overall review score from the original F I was going to give to a D.) From the experience of others on Angie's List, I can see that this may be an issue with one repair guy they hired in particular, and may not be reflective of JW Heating as a whole, but I wanted to put my experience out there so that other customers are not caught off guard by any similar behavior. I should mention that both Denise, at the front desk, and Jeff deserve an A for their professionalism but my review is for the overall experience.

Overall it was a great. From start to finish it was exactly the way Jeff said it would be.
Description of Work: needed to replace the whole heating and air conditioning unit. First the asbestos had to be removed, they came in and covered vents and doorways with plastic. They were in and out in a few hours. The next day the guys showed up at 7:00 sharp to start with taking the old unit out getting the new one in. Day 3 they showed up right on time again and finished the rest of the work, just exactly the way I was told it would happen. I am very happy with how everything works and with everyone that worked at my home. They were on time and finished exactly when I was told they would, the workers were friendly and very knowledgeable they answered all my questions.

My air conditioner was dripping water. Another company quoted me $3700 over the phone to replace the system and indicated there was no way to repair the unit. John came over to give a second quote. He was prompt, professional, nice, courteous, good to talk to and very helpful. Although he was only here to give a quote he actually found a fix and charged me nothing for his time. When he left I knew I had found my ac guy. Whether it is this unit, or my next place, if I need any hvac work done I'll be calling John. No doubt. There is a reason this is the highest rated place on Angie's list.

John Mattson from JW Heating came over to our house to bid the job. He was very thorough and focused on the job requirements spending much more time in planning out the project than the other bid(s). John told me specifically what they were going to do and where the new equipment would be located. I selected JW Heating even though they were not the cheapest bid as I was convinced that I was getting more value for the money spent (and we did). The job went pretty much as expected; there was a little more stucco damage than expected but it was easily fixable. The workers were curtious and very careful not to damage the interior and totally cleaned up after their work. We had some difficulty with air flow in one of the bedrooms and John came back to the house a couple of times to remedy the situation; he concluded that the room needed another vent and had it installed wihout additional charge to ensure we got the cool air we originally expected. I would definately use this company again and very much liked their people and in-particular John.
Description of Work: JW Heating installed a new furnace, replaced all the air piping and vents throughout the house and installed an air conditioning system (which we did not previously have), an electric air cleaner and new thermostats. The job took two full days and the workers came back to install some additional air piping and an additional vent in one of our bedrooms at no additional cost.

Let?s cut to the chase: JW Heating & Air provided our best experience with a building contractor or tradesman in 35 years of home ownership. Our central heating and AC system ? of mid-century vintage, like our 2300-square-foot house ? consumed power at a stupendous rate and was on its last legs. The AC was on the roof (needed a crane) and the duct work was an asbestos-abatement job to meet new codes and improve air flow. For this big-ticket, long-term item, we did our homework on equipment, industry jargon, repair history, and the science of the subject. The consensus was this ? no matter what brand your HVAC system is, the key to lasting success is a talented installer. We considered two other installers, one of which was associated with a big-box retailer, before settling on JW. JW?s owner, Jeff Williams, inspired confidence and delivered results. He walked the house, got on the roof, performed a load calculation, reviewed SEER ratings, described planned duct changes in detail, explained air return modifications and air filtration choices, ran down rebates, whipped out documentation (like insurance), and listened to our concerns. We were keen to have NATE certified installers, and were pleased to learn that more than half of his installers have the designation. What sealed the deal was that his price was competitive, since no unaddressed issues were lurking under the table. Installers Joe, Ramon, and Chad were professional, went about their business without drama, and really knew their trade. Every installation has a curve or two, as did this one, but nothing bothered them. Been there, done that before. They seemed happy to answer a nosy owner?s questions. They never looked rushed. They never took a shortcut. They cleaned up after themselves. And the asbestos team and crane operator made those nerve-wracking jobs go smoothly. The result is cool/warm quiet air that maintains the house temperature much more uniformly. Want further proof? We opted for a city inspection and passed with flying colors. If you?ve ever opened yourself to this process, you understand how high a standard this is. The inspector repeatedly complimented the job, so far above the standard. Thank you Angie?s List!
Description of Work: Replaced a roof top air conditioner with a two-stage, 16 SEER unit; replaced an in-house furnace with a two-stage unit; added a whole house filtration system; removed asbestos laden duct work; installed and rearranged ducts and vents; rebuilt furnace closet to improve air return capabilities.

Prior to contacting JW, I got quotes from 2 other companies. Scott at JW spent more time going over my needs and options than the others did and gave me a couple of options with different prices and features. I decided on the higher priced system, which was eligible for Energy Star rebates and a tax credit, as well as a larger manufacturer's rebate, saving me over $1400 in all. The installers were conscientious, doing an excellent job and taking care to put down tarps and cover their shoes whenever they entered my condo. The new unit is working fine, is more energy efficient and quieter then the old one. When the city inspector came out to sign off on the permit, he complemented the installation quality. Jeff came out yesterday to check on a minor issue with the grill, and I was impressed with the time he took and his overall desire to provide good service. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend JW to others..
Description of Work: My condo's 32 year old heating & air conditioning system had developed rust and damage to the furnace box creating a possible carbon monoxide danger. After confirming with 3 different companies and the gas company that the unit should be replaced, I had the entire heating and air conditioning system replaced.

The coil on our old AC unit started leaking water. We attempted to repair the coil only, but because of the cost of replacing the coil we decided to replace the whole unit (heating and cooling). We obtained three bids. JW Heating and Air's bid was pretty equal in price to the company we used for past maintenance. My wife and I chose JW, because of the way the company's representaive, George handled all of our questions and concerns. I found him to be honest, informative with options, and personable without any presure to purchase. I realize he is considered a sales person; however I consider him as "The Director of First Impressions". He portrayed the company as very professional, therefore I expected any interaction with the company to be professional. I, truly was not disappointed. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. The installers, Elias and Ramone did an excellent job installing the unit. They were professional in every way and answered my questions. They made the painful experience of replacing a big ticket item as pleasant as possible. I will definetly recommend this company.

This company came out 3 months ago to do annual maintenance on our air conditioning unit. We have been quite lucky and have not had to run the a/c until today. This afternoon I noticed water running down our driveway and fortunately my husband thought to check the a/c unit which is located in our attic. He found that the PVC water pipe was clearly disconnected from the unit and water was pouring out of it. We immediately called JW Heating and they informed us that they were able to send someone out, however they wanted to charge us $150/hr. My understanding of paying them to maintain the unit is just that, and obviously they missed a very big problem. If they accidentally missed the pipe issue that's fine, but they should stand by their work and send someone out ASAP without charge. When they were running the unit during the maintenance they should have seen the water pouring out. It is 96 degrees right now at 4:30 pm with 30% humidity - we cannot open our windows because it is extremely hot outside, so our home is baking in the heat. Neither my husband nor myself have been in the attic since JW heating was up there in May, so we are confident that we did not disconnect the pipe at any time. Extremely disappointed, and I feel that I wasted my hard-earned money on maintenance that was not effective.

I had a pretty good experience with them. We had little problems about a week ago but they went out and figured it out and solved really quickly. If you have a problem, you go up to the head the list if you have a contract with them.
Description of Work: JW Heating installed a heating and air conditioning system. We had a contract that they would come out twice a year to go through your system and change filters.

If every home improvement experience could be like this one, being a home owner would be a cinch. From the get go with George, who was the first contact person, to the two great guys who did the asbestos removal, to the finished product, we were extremely satisfied. Sean & Ramon were the best and the owner, Jeff Williams made us feel great about our investment every step of the way. Thank you JW Heating & Air. Michelle & Mark

Jeff Williams and his crew did a fantastic job from start to finish. The new system is REMARKABLY QUIET and energy efficient. There are times when I actually have to check to see if it's running. Finally, I can sleep peacefully. This is a company that clearly takes pride in it's work and greatly values customer relations -- which is not easy to find these days. It was both a pleasure and a reassurance to do business with them.
Description of Work: In preparing the estimate, Jeff Williams, the owner of JW Heating & Air came to my house and conducted a thorough inspection, took detailed measurements and made extensive calculations to determine what was needed for maximum efficiency and, most importantly, maximum quiet. My previous unit had been noisy to the point of interupting my sleep. Jeff determined that I needed new ducts, new enlarged vents and a higher quality, quieter heat pump and a variable speed air handler. Jeff spent nearly three hours at my house preparing the estimate. He then took great pains to find the best unit with optimum dimensions for my house. None of the other companies who came out to bid on the job spent the time or took the care to address the particular needs of my home. And Jeff's estimate was the best of the bunch. Jeff's crew were equally impressive. They were friendly, repectful and extremely knowledgeable. They were meticulous in their clean up every day and the work went quickly and without a hitch. Since I work at home, they took extra care to be unobtrusive which was much appreciated.

Jeff was one of the most knowledgeable guys I met when quoting a new HVAC system. He was thorough, professional, and punctual. Ultimately, I ended up moving forward with a different system than the Ruud Jeff quoted. If it hadn't been for a promotion one of the competitive brands was running, I would certainly have hired JW Heating to do the job.

They were number one on Angie's List; that's why I used them. Everything was positive and I liked them very much. They were courteous, prompt and explained everything to me that was going to be happening. I was very satisfied with what they did; they were here for three says so they finished quick.
Description of Work: I used JW Heating and Air to install an air conditioner.
