Jerry is a great guy. He made the initial visit on time and listened very carefully to what we needed to be done.He made several very good suggestions, which saved us more than $600. His proposal was e-mailed that same day and the price was fair. He and his crew showed up on time and ready to go .Installing new replacement doors in an older home (39 years old) is an art form, nothing is square Each door had to be precisely fit and 'tried in' to ensure easy operation (one door had to be self closing to meet code). Jerry is very careful and precise, so both doors meet all of our requirements. Jerry made sure during the installation that we were able to see each step. Great job. We would (and likely, will) ask him to handle any future door replacement projects.

Response from Jerry's Doors & Windows
I am really surprised to read this review! I showed up on time for the estimate and was greeted as more or less a servant rather than the professional I am. The project was a straightforward door replacement with a double acting pivot hinge common to doors between kitchens and dining rooms, allowing the door to swing in either direction. The customer requested a specific finish for the pivot and I agreed to look for it. After making a trip to the hardware store I advised the customer there would be a 2 week delay because it was not a stock item. As I recall she was having a function at her home and wanted the job completed in less time then it would take for me to obtain the hardware. The customer then found the hardware at a location about 1 hour from my office and without offering to pay for my time or gas expected me to pick up the item and deliver it. I spent about 3 hours of my time trying to satisfy her for a job that would have cost around $500-600, not much of an incentive for me. I suggested she pick up the part or have it delivered and I would bring the door and install it. I believe that was the last I heard from her,and that was over 2 months ago. If she sincerely wanted the job done in her time frame I believe she would have taken action to do so. I would also point out I am a 2 time super service award winner and have more than 30 straight A reviews. Every customer is important to me, I guess you can't please everyone all the time.

Replaced front door with a newly milled door. Door is good quality and Jere communicated with the mill and communicated our design to our specifications. My issue was with the install as the was put into the existing jam and the fit is not great (we can see daylight around the edges). Jere should have suggested weatherstripping or something to make this door more efficient but he did not. Also, the door hardware we bought did not fit with our screen door hardware, once the door hardware was installed the screen door would not close, Jere did not bring this to our attention either and we fixed after the fact. Jere did not haul the old door away, but cut it for us to throw away in our trash can (even after I gave him our old door hardware). The cost of the door was 400 and the cost to install was 800. In retrospect, I thought that 800 was too expensive for the work done. I feel like I could have just had a handyman hang the door. He also dinged the door, leaving a dent in the front middle that he just left without trying to sand out or repair. Jere is a very nice man but for someone that specializes in doors, I found the finished product to not be very "finished" and the install prie was way too much for the scope of work.

Response from Jerry's Doors & Windows
In response to the above review I would like to clear up a few of her misconceptions especially concerning the quality of my work and the price. She has mistakenly taken the amount of the contract deposit for the cost of the door and the balance of the contract as the labor price.. The door was $770, hinges, saddle and shoe were $ 80 and the labor was $350!!. In addition at no time was the screen door presented as an issue. I installed the locks in the same location as the previous door. There was no mention of weather stripping other then the door bottom which I installed. If she wanted weather stripping there was no mention of daylight showing when I finished the job. The contract specifically stated that "painting, patching, and hauling" were not included. I cut the old door in pieces as a courtesy and placed it in the trash bin. In regards to me "dinging" the door, this was not mentioned at any time nor did I notice ANY dings or damage to the door which was ordered as paint grade and the painter would be responsible for patching any holes, gouges, dings etc.. I find it quite strange that none of these items were brought to my attention at the completion of the installation and now 2 months later there is a complaint without the member contacting me to discuss these issues. Had she called me I would have endeavored to do whatever necessary to make adjustments for her satisfaction. If the member would like me to return and address any issues she has with the quality of my work (please refer to the more then 30 straight A reviews and 2 Super Service Awards I have garnered) I would be more then happy to do so.

The window in my bedroom was very thin and old and I wanted a modern double pane window that would offer better sound proofing. I called Jerry based on the reviews here and he came out and discussed various options with me. I actually chose the most expensive option, which involved breaking the stucco (I wanted to preserve the way the window would appear from the outside of the building). That, of course, required additional work to repair. Jerry recommended someone to do this work, Darwin, who was also excellent. I was very pleased with the entire process.

I found Jerry's Doors and Windows on Angie's List after an extensive search for someone who would/could repair 1940s double hung windows. The response was quick. Jerry was out the next day, repaired the four windows that could be repaired (they now work up and down beautifully) and measured and ordered the two windows that needed to be replaced. Although he said it could be 3 weeks to get them, they were here and installed within a week. I couldn't have asked for better work (including cleanup) and the cost (for the windows and the labor) was just what he'd said it would be. Besides being prompt and responsible and good at his work, he is also a very pleasant person to deal with. I would certainly use and recommend this company in the future.

Jerry was prompt, easy to communicate with, very reasonably priced, and did a fantastic job. Called Jerry, described the door I needed, he knew exactly the size and the potential challenges (it's an old house). He came by a few days later, measured - showed me a door from his catalog. Two days later he emailed a quote. I confirmed the price and two days later he arrived on time, put the door in, fixed another deadbolt I was having an issue with (for free) and was gone in 4 hours. Nice guy, excellent workmanship (I have since had two contractors over on other fixes who both complimented his workmanship. Highly recommend him.

Jerry has good reviews, but I was disappointed. Jerry and I made an appointment to meet on Friday 2/08/13 @ 10am (I took the day off from work to make this appointment). I live at a condo with a front gate phone system. I asked him to give me a call on my mobile phone when he arrives because the phone system does not work well; I don?t get the calls. He acknowledged this request, and we confirmed that the number he had called from his phone was indeed my mobile phone number. We also discussed parking (street parking or underground parking). He also mentioned that he?s coming from another job Friday morning. On the day of our appointment, 10am came and went. @ 10:45am, I called him to find out his ETA (I thought that he may have encountered morning traffic or had had a late start due to his other job). Jerry informed me that he was here at 10am, tried the front gate phone system, but there was no answer. I reminded him that I asked him before to call me on my mobile because the phone system does not work for me. I acknowledged his concern that there was no sign indicating the phone system problem. He told me that he forgot my mobile phone number? was not planning on returning? that "[he] wasted his time coming out"? and apologized that he could not do the job. Key Learnings: 1) The day before your appointment, call Jerry to ensure that he has all pertinent/special information to meeting you (e.g., your phone number, reminders on accessing the building, etc.) 2) If Jerry does not show up within 10 minutes after your appointed time, call him up immediately I?m disappointed, because I really need to get my front door repaired and really liked his stellar reviews. I wish that he didn?t waste his time? but I also wish that he had not wasted mine.

Firstly and most importantly I wish to publicly apologize for inconveniencing the customer. Unfortunately I neglected to bring her phone # with me and had no way of contacting her; I wish this were not the case however I am human and subject to lapses of memory. Also, I really wanted to do the job. When I arrived at her building the only place to park for a moment was a red zone. I tried the gate phone and it was out of order. Not wanting to be cited or towed I left and returned to my office a half hour away. A short time later the customer called me and I apologized and told her that I would not be able to return. I sincerely regret this turn of events and this is not the way I routinely conduct my business. It may have helped had she posted a note at the gate with her phone # but ultimately it was my responsibility to have the correct information with me. I trust this will not happen in the future. If the customer agrees I will return and offer a substantial discount for her inconvenience.

Installing doors and windows is a lot more complicated than it would seem. I told my brother, who works in construction, that I needed repairs and replacements. He told me "If you use a handyman you're a moron". It turned out he was right. I got several bids. They were all about the same but I liked Jere (that's how he spells it). He was straightforward and clearly knew his business. He explained to me in great detail what he would do and how he would do it. Jere started when he said he would. I needed four new doors, repairs to another, and five new windows. It took him about four full days, not including rain delays. The old windows had to be removed, the mechanisms repaired, the frames repaired, and the new windows installed. This was meticulous work and Jere was very careful and exacting. He recommended fibreglass windows because I was going to paint them. Another contractor told me you could paint vinyl windows. You can, but it doesn't last. The doors were very difficult. It's an old house, nothing's exactly plumb and the frames and sills needed numerous small repairs. Once, rather than replacing an entire piece of the frame, he went next door, where they're doing remodeling, and got what he needed from the carpenters. He provides the hinges but you have to get the locks yourself. You need special tools and equipment to do this work, some most people wouldn't recognize. I waited a month before writing this review to see whether everything worked and was leak proof. Everything was perfect. Jere's an old world craftsman. He's not cheap but you won't regret you hired him.

in my 73-year-old house, I have learned that even the simplest project can be a big deal. Materials, standard sizes, and previous building codes may be obsolete. I hired Jere Rosenberg because he was very knowledgeable, professional, and I liked his honest and straightforward approach. He showed up on time, worked meticulously, and cleaned up after himself. As luck would have it, a door handle, which was on its way out, stopped working after the weather stripping was installed. Jere installed a new handle free of labor charges. Since I do not get this kind of service too often, it was extraordinary.
Description of Work: 1. Installed a solid core birch door with a 20x24 inch stationary window, installed in existing frame includes a brown door shoe and 1 1/2 pair of hinges. 2. Weather strip the bottom of the front and rear doors

Jerry was great start to finish. When he came to give an estimate, he stayed overtime to fix a door that my three year-old had pulled off the hinges. That saved us from having to stand guard at her door overnight :) The main job he performed was installation of a door in a non-standard opening. It was somewhat complicated because he had to build out a custom frame before installing the door. He did a great job and so far we're happy with the quality. He also did a few cleanup items on other doors around the house. We highly recommend Jerry!

Jere impressed us immediately by being willing to come out for an estimate on a Sunday. He was very personable and professional and we liked him immediately. He kept us informed throughout the process in getting the estimate to us and setting up the appointment for the install. The install took two days and unfortunately, I had scheduled roof work to be done and it was in the same area where Jere was working on the back door. However, he was very accommodating and worked efficiently under these circumstances. While working on the back door, he discovered that there was a problem with some unevenness in our existing structure. He advised me of the problem and took care of it with a quick trip to the hardware store. He also referred us to a painter for our front door who ended up being a great referral! We couldn't be more pleased with Jere and his work.
Description of Work: Jere replaced two doors for us - a front door and a back door. He also installed a new lock in the front door and reused our existing hardware in the back door. He ended up having to do some additional work on the back door because of some issues he encountered with the existing structure.

Jerry responded to my initial call right away and came to give me an estimate right away. He is very generous with his information, answered all my questions and even suggested I visit the window manufacturer he uses which I did and I found very helpful.
Description of Work: I am remodeling a kitchen and Jere replaced 3 old garden windows with casement outswing wood windows; replaced an old casement that had been behind some shelving and closed for 30 years and replaced the sashes on another casement window. On the last, he suggested using the original frame but replaced the original inswing casements with outswing casements and installed the crank mechanism himself. I appreciated the $$ savings.

We selected Jerry from an extensive list under door repair because his reviews said he was the guy to contact. Jerry responded the next day to my email and came out that weekend to take measurements and determine what supplies were needed. Home Depot had already quoted me close to $800 for the one door and Jerry was able to beat that price by several hundred dollars. He gave us estimates on windows we want to replace as well as interior doors we hope to change in the near future. He listened to what we wanted, made suggestions, and created a game plan that was painless and effort free on our part. Work was completed that day and we couldn't be happier. The secret here is that Jerry is a professional who obviously knows what he is doing and has had years of experience. I'm sure there are others who could have charged us less, but we wanted quality work, which is exactly what we got. We now have a person we trust and will use him again in the future.

I have an architecturally significant mid-century home in Los Angeles. Once I moved in, I discovered many of the original windows didn't work. Jere came out and indicated that only one of them actually needed replacing, and the others he would be able to make operable. He ordered the replacement window, as well as a screen for the kitchen, installed both, then went through the house making all the windows work! My mint-condition, vintage house has been restored to working order without having to replace the original windows. This was important to me. Jere was a pleasure to work with. He's such a nice guy, conversational but also focused on the work, and I found his price fair and reasonable. I'd recommend him without hesitation. No up-selling, just down-to-earth, good craftsmanship, and a genuine respect for my desire to keep my house in as original a condition as possible.

Jere was very quick to respond to our initial request. After an inspection of the windows he gave what I thought was a very fair price for an estimate. It was several weeks for the wood windows to be built. The installation was done in one day. Our old house in all plaster walled but there was zero damage during the replacement. We are very happy with the end results.

On Saturday I raised all three of my bedroom windows to air out the room. In the afternoon I tried to close them. One of them would not come down. On Sunday I tried banging and tugging to get the window to come down but it wouldn't budge. I consulted Angie's List for "window repair"; read some reviews; and decided to contact Jerry's Doors and Windows by sending an email to him. By Sunday night Jerry called. I told him a cleaning crew was scheduled to wash all my windows Monday morning and the window situation was an obstacle to getting all windows cleaned. In addition, I couldn't alarm my security system because the window would not close. He said he'd come early on Monday and fix the window. After a description of the problem, he gave me an estimate of the cost to repair. He arrived early, completely repaired the window, and was gone before the cleaning crew got to the bedroom windows. He charged exactly what he had estimated. He cleaned up afterwards and left. Completely professional experience from beginning to end. Could not imagine better!

I wish we could have hired Jere! We had two problems with Weathershield casement windows, and he spent a lot of time on the phone with my husband trying to diagnose the issues, even though this brand is not his specialty. He even took the time to look at pictures that we e-mailed to him at his request. He's polite, professional and really wanted to help, but didn't want to charge us for a service call if he felt he couldn't fix the windows. Ultimately, he referred us to Taylor Brothers Architectural Products who put us in touch with a provider who specializes in our brand of windows and was able to fix them. If we hadn't been successful, we would have called Jere to give it a try. We really appreciated his time and effort. Thanks!
