FIVE STARS, an “A” for HOME2RENOVATE! My brother and I requested estimates from various licensed contractors to renovate the exterior of our 88 year old home. The existing exterior paint was peeling, the walls were uneven with cracks and the wood window trims were rotten. Basically the exterior was a big ugly mess. HOME2RENOVATE representative, Phil Shaffer, was very professional, informative, friendly and provided us a very reasonable quote. We felt comfortable to sign the contract the same day. The work started almost immediately. Our main contact was Jonathon Gonzales, the Project Manager (PM) which was on site every day, gave us daily updates and addressed any concerns, which were minimal, given the efficiently hard work of Ignacio Cruz (Carpenter) and Ivan B. (Painter) among the PMs excellent crew. The job was completed within a very reasonable time given some rainy days, the crew did a thorough job cleaning up and the quality is AWSOME! The house looks better than new and will remain this way with the HOME2RENOVATE warranty. At first, the job promised appeared to good to be true but HOME2RENOVATE actually under promised and over delivered which is very hard to find anywhere nowadays. We highly recommend HOME2RENOVATE for all your home improvement needs! - Ruben Becerra and Ramon Becerra.

I called this company to give me a quote on siding replacement because my house had water damage. Alex discouraged siding replacement. One of his workers told me later his company is not skilled at siding replacement. They primarily do roofing. He told me that a corner of my roof was the main culprit of the problem. This area had rotted wood under the roofing material and behind the siding that the roof butted up to. Alex told us we should replace the roof and all the rotted wood. We insisted that he put all that in writing on the contract. When his workers came to do the job, they had no supervisor with them. I called him to ask if they understood all the special requirements of this job. He didn’t even know they had already started. He thought they were going to start the next day. He did assure me, though, that everything written in the contract would be accomplished. The workers ended up finishing the job quickly and moved onto the next job. I found out a few months later that the crew installed the new roofing over the rotted wood, which was unstable. They made no attempt to replace any rotted wood and did not give me an opportunity to do anything about it. When i informed alex and other leaders in the company that the section of the roof is unsafe and needed to be redone, they told me “just don’t walk on it”. They kept saying “if the city passed it, then it is up to code”. That statement is completely untrue but they say it over and over again like a robotic response to every argument. Anyway, as i continued to insist they fix the problem, Alex turned extremely nasty, insulting me and my wife, saying we are just trying to take advantage of his company. I reported him and his company to the contractor’s license bureau. After many months of home2renovate playing games and spitting constant lies, the contractors license bureau agreed with all of my complaints about the work done by home2renovate and deemed that the work was done with negligence and was not up to code. Home2Renovate is a silver-tongued cult-like group with a very high pressure sales approach in which they insist all members of your family to be present during the sales pitch so they can create an emotional buying response. If you have a simple straight forward job that needs to be done, you might be okay using them as long as you don’t mind the high prices. If your job has any special needs, just know they will probably not address those needs. They are all about money which means they want to get your job done quickly and move on to the next job. Once your job is done they do not want to waste any more time on you, except when they are begging you to write positive reviews. They don’t genuinely care about you or your house. If you try to hold them to their word, they will switch from salesman polite to nasty and insulting in a moment’s notice. If you have problems with any of their work down the road, they will do anything they can to skate out of the responsibility. They will tell you they have lots of integrity and that they will have your back if anything goes wrong, but this company is the epitome of the phrase “I know you are lying because your lips are moving”.

Party above bought a home with a lot of underlying issues. So many that he, his wife and mother in law ended up attempting to sue the previous owner to recover costs of having to repair the many things wrong with the home which most of them invloved water penetrating the home in multiple areas, the roof, siding, windows etc. that lead to black mold in a closet. We were comntracted to do his roof. After we completed their roof. Their roof passed the city inspection and until this day has not leaked. Party above signed a completion form once the job was done stating that his family was pleased with the job. Months later he wanted us to redo areas that had no reason or need to be redone because they had passed a city inspection and were not leaking. He for some reason just wanted them redone. After we told him that we strongly recommeded that we do not tear up areas of a roof that were done correctly and were not leaking. He filed a CSLB complaint and lost. It got kicked out by the State Of California Contractor State License Board with out even going to arbitration. We are sorry that he is upset. But we truly did nothing wrong and not only does the City of Long Beach agree with us but the State Of California Contractor State License Board sided with us as well by kicking his complaint out before going to arbitration. Regarding anyone insulting party above. We have all of the emails. Party above was one sidedly launching the insults via email, never over the phone. We just let the CSLB decide who was at fault and it ended up not being us. If there is anything we can do to make thing better we are available.

Sales The Good: My rep, John, was extremely informative & friendly. The demo was very thorough & barely left room for unanswered questions. The Not-So-Good: for an initial quote, I set aside 30-45 mins during my lunch hr. A full hr later, I let the rep know that I needed him to wrap up. He pretty much ignored multiple future requests for him to wrap up & give me the quote. In total, he spent 3 hrs in my home. I ended up skipping lunch, lost 2 hrs of work & was late to an appointment. H2R almost lost my business based on this alone. Also, I don't respond well to the "hard sell" - I welcome information & a fair quote. I then need time & space to consider it & do my own research to make a decision based on the value proposition & the resources I have available. I didn't appreciate having the sales rep make multiple calls to his boss in front of me when I was visibly stressed by the chunk of my work day this person had already taken up. Suggestions: Cut down on the demo or at least speed it up. Be respectful of your customers' time & when they ask you to leave, do so (it was very uncomfortable for me to have a man remain in my home after asking him to please wrap up & go multiple times). However, remain enthusiastic about your products & services. The knowledge of & pride in your company was much appreciated Project Management The Good: I received multiple checkins from a total of 3 PM's. Steve completed my re-scope, Jonathan did multiple drop-ins to check on progress & see if I had any concerns, & David came by toward the end of the work to check in on me & do my final walk through. My overall feeling from the PM team was that they were pleased to have my business & my concerns were important to them. I had a quick freak-out about color early on & Steve responded quickly to prevent the ordering of paint that I might not like, Jonathan checked in to make sure that I'd received a response, & David came by with a swatch book to get the final color decision from me. Very well done! The Not-So-Good: as with most PM teams, communication can be a challenge. On the start date of my project, I was clear that I wouldn't be home until the afternoon, but the crew showed up before 9am anyway. By happenstance, I did come home very early that morning, but I certainly wasn't expecting the crew to be there only a couple of hours after I'd arrived at home. They worked with me & I even received a call from Alex to clear it up & set a better start time. My peeve though - both Steve & Alex talked over me multiple times as I explained what had happened. In addition, another Sales Rep showed up that day under the guise of a QC check. I was polite & welcomed the info about windows, but was very clear that he needed to leave at the hour. He still did the "call to the boss" in my home, & I was still late getting logged onto my conference call. Suggestion: things go wrong in communications. It happens, but when it does, allow your customer to feel heard. Also, don't send a sales rep to my home under the guise of QC. However, remain concerned - your efforts to accommodate me that morning went a long way in building a positive foundation for my interactions with the crew & other personnel. Crew The Good: I can't say enough about the work ethic on these guys. My father worked in carpentry & engineering for a combined 40+ years, with an eye for detail that was frustrating. I thought no one could rival that. Enter my foreman, Tito (short for Roberto, which ironically is my father's name too). He & Jose were respectful of me & my property, beautifully detailed, & consulted with me on key decisions. They were also mindful & considerate, mitigating the inconvenience of having work done on my home whenever possible. Part of what they did for me was replace the damaged foam frames around my doors and windows - the work was absolutely gorgeous. I could go on and on... The Not-So-Good: Honestly, nothing. If I work w/ H2R again, it would be mainly because of my experience w/ this crew. They not only made this experience tolerable, but truly added value to the price tag. I've added before and after photos - my home was an ugly, faded brown with damages to the wood, foam framing, and stucco. It is now this gorgeous grayish blue, with clean lines, no cracks, and beautiful texture.

It is a bit early to know for sure, but it seems the work on the job is good. The company they use to do the work was fine. The home repair's sales and appraisal people were certainly not the best. The salesman took forever in making the initial estimate because he seemed to have to stick to a pre-learned script. The sent other "appraisers" to look around the job, and it was most noticeable that they were there only to try to up-sell other work at our house -- most irritating.

After my conversation with party above. He misunderstood our Project Managers as Appraisers. Our Project Managers go to on going job sites to do quality control checks and make sure the job is going smoothly and to bring up any issues to the homeowners or for homeowners to bring up any issues to them. The roof of the sunroom we were doing tied into the roof of the existing home. The roof on the existing roof was not only old and the shingles were past due but it was very poorly installed by the previous contractor, to the point where the shingles could be pulled off by hand. Due to the fact that the job we were hired to do tied in with the bad existing roof, we let the homeowners know and he felt we were attemtping to upsell. We never gave him a price on doing his roof, we were just letting him know what is going on with his home and the roof.

I am in the midst of an approximately $7k wood siding installation with Home 2 Renovate. They quoted me a good price and timeframe. I accepted. From a distance it looks great. Up close there is lots of sloppy work. Over several months they've been unable to provide a professional level of fit and finish. Plus the top management has repeatedly bullied me to accept the low fit and finish. Each time they've tried to fix it they've made it worse. Their response is I keep changing my mind. Not once have I done this. They've just been unable to fix their sloppy work. My realtor was the original point of contact with them but they were so unable to communicate civilly with her that I had to take over. Now they're doing the same with me. I would not work with them again.

Party above had us deal with his realtors instead of him. Due to the lack of communication with him (the homeowner), them giving us a a very unrealistic time frame to complete the project and one of the realtors bad mouthing him behind his back. We decided to pull out of the job. Another one of his realtors called us back after we had left them voicemails, due to all of them never answering their phones threatening that if we didn't do the job they would in his words "destroy" us online. We went ahead and decided to just go ahead and attempt to complete this job in the time frame they wanted and to the customers liking. Us deciding to go against our best judgement of just walking away really ended up hurting us. It was not possible to please party above. He was always out of town, weeks at a time, due to being in the film industry and we were not allowed to work while he was out. No matter how many times we went back and how great the job looked. The only plus was that eventually he started dealing with us directly instead of having his realtors be the middle man which then sped up the process. At the end he was very pleased and even told the Vice President that he would update his review but he has yet to do so. This review does not reflect our work ethic. Had an appointment to get an estimate for Home 2 Renovate on 12/5/2019 at 11AM. I drove 45 minutes to meet the rep, but no one showed up. I repeatedly tried to call them at the 855 number as well as a 323 number, but no one picked up. I left a voicemail message on the 855 number. One hour and 50 minutes later a get a call saying that they showed up, but no one was there. Was I supposed to wait around for almost 2 hours for someone to show up. It's a really bad sign when a company cannot come close to keeping their initial appointment. Needless to say, I'm not doing business with them.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a customer. We did not do any work for the party above. When our representatives showed up to party above's home. One of the first thing he said was that he was collecting bids to present them to his wife who would be assisting him in making the decision. When we saw that this was not the average take a old door out and put in a new one due to multiple areas of water leaking through their existing french door and that there was going to be multiple options on what type of door to replace it with and installation methods. We recommended that we should come back later in the day or sometime the next day when his wife could be there so we could go over all their options together and installation methods. He got abnormally upset. Started calling the representatives "Man" and being very rude. At that time we felt the best thing to do was to walk away from the opportunity. We take any appointments where water is penetrating a home very serious due to the seriousness of the damages that are either already there or can quickly get there. Very unprofessional. Alex and Joey used scare tactics in sales pitch, saying "if your daughters get hurt b/c you don't do this repair, then that's on you. I wouldn't wait to get a second opinion". I need to get my roofed repaired, and like any person I am trying to get recommendations and quotes from several different companies so that I can make a decision on what company to go with. They refused to give me quote if I didn't first agree to use them. I asked 5 times. They clearly have a purposeful sales/scare strategy. I felt like I was being bullied in my own house. I had to ask him to leave. It was very uncomfortable. I would not recommend you invite them into your home. Angie's List - I would monitor this vendor for repeat behavior.

We felt comfortable hiring Home 2 Renovate for our new roof based on their thorough presentation of their company’s philosophy, history, accolades and roofing materials. This was our first big purchase and decision as first time home owners, which was daunting, but the guys (Alex and Kyle) at H2R were easily accessible when we had questions. Also, our city was very difficult to work with and were giving us trouble with pulling permits for our roofing project based on another permit issue that we encountered when purchasing the home. H2R went above and beyond in communicating with the city and advocating for us. It was an issue we were trying to work out with the city for almost a year; with H2R’s diligence, it was settled in a few weeks. Also, their initial estimate of costs was pretty spot on with our final project cost. We definitely felt that they had our best interests in mind as home owners and a family and weren’t just trying to make the next sale. All of this to say, our new roof looks beautiful and we will definitely be calling Home 2 Renovate whenever we are ready for the next item on our home improvement list!
