They did a great job. They were timely. They showed up on schedule. They were done and it was reasonable. I didn’t shop around though.
Description of Work: I last used Gres Electric Inc eighteen months ago. They put in a ceiling fan.

Gres arrived just a few minutes after the arranged time of 9 AM. The job was completed around 1 PM. Part of the reason it took so long was that it took a lot of testing to figure out where the problem was. Also, Gres had to leave to pick up some supplies, which took quite a while. However, we consider the cost very reasonable.
Description of Work: Harry Gres and his assistant restored electrical service to our converted garage, which had become erratic and then failed entirely. This involved replacement of a circuit breaker, which had burned out, and rerouting of the electric supply wires from the house to the garage. These wires had previously been channeled through a metal pipe that ran about a foot off the ground between the house and the garage. This pipe had been stepped on numerous times, causing it to break in the middle and let the rain in, and the wires were burned through. It was a horrible arrangement. Gres installed new ductwork that led the wires around a wall in such a way they they were no longer exposed to footsteps. He also installed a ground wire -- previously the metal pipe was acting as the ground. Now everything works properly again.

Got several bids. Theirs was not the lowest, but they were very up front about potential problems and how they would not cut corners on adding sub-panel as opposed to maxing out existing panel. Very knowledgeable and professional from estimate, phone contacts and down to actual installation. The work was done in timely manner, and the installers were hard working. Everything came out great and we have used them since.
Description of Work: Installed sub-panel, outlets, light fixtures and some rewiring for kitchen remodel.

The outlet was installed properly and neatly but it was not connected to the circuit breakers in the most logical way. The outlet is for the stove and is now tied into the main circuit for lighting instead of a circuit mainly for the kitchen. The man who did the work, Mike, also had in inappropriate & loud cell phone ring-tone that I did not appreciate. Also, I asked for some estimates on installing ceiling fans where there currently is no overhead lighting. I was given a very rough estimate in person and promised a written estimate but never received one.
Description of Work: New outlet installed.

I spoke to a man who seemed pretty rushed. When I explained what I needed he said "that sounds just like a time and materials job" (as if I was just supposed to know what the meant). I explained that we live in an old house and that we weren't sure if we had room in our electrical box to add another outlet. I also said I needed to know how much this might cost before we had someone come out to do the work. I explained that I didn't want someone to come out and be in the middle of the job and find something unexpected that would cost us a lot more than expected (and I still didn't know what that would be because he didn't give me an actual estimate of what "time and materials" might be). He clearly did not want to send someone to do an estimate. When I pushed he said he could have someone with more experience with estimates call me. I never heard from them again. I wanted to use a local company but I certainly won't be calling them again. Besides the unprofessionalism of not calling me when they said they would, I get really annoyed when people who are professionals in a certain trade talk at you like you are supposed to just know how they work. If you want my job, then take the time to give me the information I need. If this job was not worth their time to send someone to give an estimate - fine. But when I have another, possibly bigger job, they will also not get the job.
Description of Work: I called to request someone to come out to give us an estimate for replacing several ungrounded electrical outlets throughout the house. We also wanted to have a new outlet added.

Overall, a fantastic experience. We would definitely recommend Gres for any future electrical problems. The electricians were very professional, friendly, and honest about the problems and progress as they completed the work.
Description of Work: Complete rewire of a room in the basement that was waiting to be finished. Once we got the old drywall torn down, we saw a number of serious electrical problems that needed to be fixed ASAP (bare wires, nails through existing wiring, junction boxes not to code, etc.) Gres responded very quickly and were able to give a rough idea of the cost which ended up being right on. The electricians who came even stayed extra time to troubleshoot a problem with the new wiring and didn't charge us for the time. The room now looks great with beautiful can lighting and safe wiring behind the walls.

The work went very well. One outlet was from 1959 and didn't have much space inside for all the wiring. They were able to get a new grounded outlet to fit when another electrician had told me that it couldn't be done. One outlet in our laundry room was attached to a board which had come loose from the concrete wall, and they re-attached the board to the wall.

They did an excellent job giving a very itemized clear proposal. It was extremely thorough, every dollar amount was explained and we knew where we stood on each item. We did end up going with a company who came in with a lower bid. However, Harry, who came out was extremely professional and we thought very highly of their company.

There were a few problems. He put in the first GFI and it shorted; he found a nick in the wire and fixed it before he left. When he took out the wiring to the light, there was a short in that. He found another nick in the wire and fixed that before he left. It wasn't exactly a smooth experience.

The inspection for the sale of our house revealed various issues with a sub-panel in our garage. Corrections were made, but we needed to have it verified that it was up to code to complete the sale. Called Gres Electric and scheduled a service call, but on the scheduled date the planned electrician was unavailable due to a funeral. At first we were unable to plan a new service visit because of time limitations of both parties, but at the last minute, the owner helped out by taking care of it the same day. He even took the time to answer some general questions I had about our new house.

I had been having problems with this switch since last fall. It would intermittently work, and then completely quit working. Originally, I was unsure if the problem was related to my pump or the electrical switch. After having my pool company come out, they verified that the problem was with the switch, and thus I contacted Gres. he representative arrived promptly on-time. I explained the problem, and he took a look at the switch. I still claim he worked magic, but when he went to try the switch, it worked fine (and has continued to work without problem). In the end, he didn t even bill me for a trip charge. Now that s customer service, and a great way to ensure I ll call them next time!

I was re-establishing our electrical service to our garage. I had already dug a trench and laid down new Romex cable inside PVC pipe. They sent Hans the same day I called. He hooked up the garage end by installing a new junction box with kill switch and tying into my PVC pipe. To get the line into the house he drilled into the siding and again tied into my PVC pipe with the appropriate fittings. He installed a new breaker so the garage would have its own line. He also spent about 20 minutes troubleshooting a dim kitchen light. Throughout, Hans worked efficiently, was careful with the work, explained in simple terms when asked about a portion of the work, and was generally pleasant and nice to have around working on the house. I have had Gres out for other projects and have had similarly positive experiences.
Description of Work: Hooked up electrical to garage, installed a new breaker, installed PVC conduit connections on house and garage ends. Charges $88 per hour plus materials plus $40 service call fee.

Seamless; there were many obstacles because it's such an old home and there was a lot of electrical work done by the previous owners that was NOT to code. All the guys that were out here Sheldon, Hans, Mike and apprentice Jessen have done a great job. I always call them now for electrical work.

Gres was fantastic. They had to come back three times to fix the job, but the technician who came the first time was very honest that what he was trying may not fix the problem the first time, as there could be several explanations. He explained that I could use remaining time left for the next trip. After the second try, Gres called to follow up and make sure it was working! I have NEVER had a contractor follow up after their work was completed. They fixed the problem on the third try. I will absolutely call them every time I have an electrical need.
Description of Work: Gres was contacted to fix an outdoor GFI switch that kept tripping off without cause. Each time the GFI tripped off, it turned off all outdoor electric (i.e., the garage door opener, lights etc.)

We had almost all of the electrical equipment on the exterior of our house ripped off when a tree fell on our power line. Gres was able to show up to put in a temporary patch so we could have power until Excel fixed the line which was a lifesaver. After Excel fixed the line they replaced everything quickly, and better than it was previously to the incident. I also had them replace several ungrounded outlets in my house which also went well.
