Called in the afternoon to see about getting an estimate and William came the very next day. I told him we needed to get outlets for both a new washer and dryer. Our house is a little complicated due to the fact that there is no crawl space (no space under the house and no attic). William found a gas line for the dryer which eliminated the need for one of the outlets and saved us some bucks. He was very courteous and attentive and told me in person his estimate and followed it with an email for a written estimate. I scheduled the work and he came with two of his men -right on time - to begin. He explained to the workers how it needed to be done, but ended up staying and overseeing the whole thing when access to the conduit proved more difficult than anticipated (because of our unique house and situation). They did a beautiful job and cleaned up everything. I really appreciated that William stayed to oversee, and although it ended up being a bit more complicated and involved, they didn't charge more than the original estimate. A pleasure to deal with!
Description of Work: Ran a new, dedicated outlet for a new washer (clothes).

The work was done in one day. Roger went out of his way to make sure the house was left clean and neat. We will begin the other phases shortly and I have no doubt that the work will be done as professionally as phase 1. I would highly recommend Garafano Electric for any job, large or small.
Description of Work: William came out to give us an estimate on several electrical issues that we needed taken care of. I asked him to breakdown the estimates into 3 phases, which he did. After reviewing the estimates, we asked to have them grouped differently which William promptly did and we have just completed phase 1. Roger, the electrician, arrived first and based on instructions from William, began immediately. William checked in shortly after to make sure that everything was going as planned. This phase included some safety issues, which might have required some wall demolition but thanks to his extra efforts Roger avoided having to damage the walls in any way.

William showed up at our door 2 minutes before our appointment time (talk about punctual!). We showed him around the house and he observed and took notes. We pointed out how our bathroom was wired - very very strangely and he just laughed for like 3 minutes straight. He apologized, but actually, it IS very funny. He is otherwise a very professional guy. He seemed like an OK choice for an electrician, mostly because I didn't know better. The next day, I brought another electrician out to give me another quote. He came around with equipment to test a bunch of electrical spots in question (for free). Ultimately, this ruled out some of the work that William was going to charge us for. Meanwhile, we waited and waited and waited for an estimate for the work that William said needed to be done because it was a "safety liability". After 5 days, (after he told me it would take 1 day for the estimate), I started calling and calling for the estimate. Finally (the next day) it showed up in my email box. By this time, I had already scheduled the other electrician. I would not necessarily discourage you from using this electrician...though I would encourage you to shop around and find the one you like the most.
Description of Work: William gave me an estimate for a bunch of fairly minor electrical repairs (new outlets, GFCI, switch repair, light fixture installations, etc.). I think the total estimate was around $1200.

William called me and my tenant to let us know he was running late. He arrived within fifteen minutes of the appointed time. He was very polite and methodically checked everything.
Description of Work: I had put in central air and heating system over the summer but the electricity to the unit was inconsistent. Garafano electric came out and reviewed the entire electrical system. Made some repairs. Replaced circuit breakers. Brought everything up to code.

He showed up on time. He was having some difficulty doing the job because the wiring is pretty difficult. As soon as he found the inside wire, everything went well. This was quite a bit of work. They were a little late in getting me the bill, I actually had to call them for it! They charged me exactly what they said they would.

I bought a larger room air conditioner to replace the one I had in my office. According to the specs I should have had enough amperage. When it was installed it tripped the circuit breaker. I called a different company who changed out the circuit breaker from a 15 amp to a 20, but told me it might not be enough and if that was true they would have to run a new circuit. When the breaker tripped again I called them to get an estimate on the new circuit and they quoted me $1200! So I went back to Angie's List and called Garafano for another bid. William was very personable and spent time figuring out just what he needed to do and quoted an estimate "not to exceed $515". His office manager called the next day to make an appointment to do the work, but the soonest they could come was in 9 days. William and Bob arrived promptly at 7:30am on the appointed day and worked for almost 4 hours. In the course of the job they realized the unit wasn't sufficiently vented and installed an exhaust fan. They were pleasant and efficient and very clean. Including the unexpected exhaust fan, the final price came to $428.
Description of Work: Ran a new circuit from main electrical panel to my studio air conditioner receptacle (maybe 85 to 100 feet). Installed attic exhaust fan to improve air circulation around the room air conditioner unit.

I had another company around for a dryer repair and they accused me of having a faulty breaker. Nonetheless, I called my friends at Garafano Electric at 4 P.M on Tuesday. I was called back in about 15 minutes from a nice guy named Albert. Albert promised arrival at 7. He got lost a bit from E vs W on my street but made it 10 mins late. He apologized for the lateness and was very cordial. He is an Asian guy with very good English and compliments for my nice home. He quickly changed the breaker and I couldn't be happier. He complimented my home again and my electrical system. I got the 10% and away he went. Thanks Garafano!

Gang of three guys came around and completely updated my kitchen to current electrical standards. Which means they installed many new circuits for appliances, several new GFI points, new recessed canned fluorescent lighting, under cabinet lighting, new bathroom fan, new bedroom lights, new closet lights, and reorganized my exterior box so that at the end of the day I even had space for another circuit! While these guys get no awards for cleanliness, they did do a great job, and I would definitely hire them again.

My house has terrible electrical problems and we consistently lose power to half of the house when we use too much power. We have paid between $900-$2500 a few times in the past 1 1/2 years to fix the electrical problem. Well the house blew again and I reset the circuit breakers, but still no power. So, I called Garafano Electric to take a look and provide an estimate to us. William came to our house a few hours after calling him, was extremely nice and courteous listened to the situation. He took a look at the circuits and noticed a breaker that I had missed and voila.... the house was up and running again. He provided some suggestions for work that he could do that would alleviate the problems in the future and also gave me some money saving tips. What a great guy. I would definitely use them again for my electrical needs.

The guy who came asked me if I had time to wait for him to type up his estimate. I thought this would take 15 minutes or so. We hadn't even moved in yet and didn't even have a chair to sit in nor much else I could do while waiting for him, so I found it very unperceptive that he was oblivious to this as he took an hour to type his estimate. When I finally went through it with him, it became apparent that having me wait for so long so he could read through a clearly written estimate had been totally unnecessary. But the one thing they said to me that will never have me hire them was the estimator telling me that I needed to get the city to sign off on the meter placement and that I should call the area representative and "...tell them you're moving in next week. You know sometimes you just have to tell a little white lie to make things go faster." Being advised to tell a lie, white or not, is unacceptable to me. Who knows what kind of lies they will tell me?
Description of Work: I called Garafano to give an estimate for a meter upgrade for a newly purchased home. I also asked about adding an additional electrical outlet in the garage, checking a non-working outlet in the kitchen, and diagnosing problems with lighting in the kitchen. ($3250)

Once I discovered Garafano Electric, I haven't used anyone else for electrical work. If you can get Bill to work at your house, do so. He's really meticulous and does things "old school". What I mean is that he doesn't like to make big holes in walls to make his job easier, leaving the repair to a follow-on drywall contractor. As part of the work, I had some recessed lights installed in the ceiling of a balcony where there were no lights or electrical wiring installed previously. Bob was able to cut the stucco out perfectly requiring almost no repair. He was upset that he wasn't able to perfectly center the lights in the space provided (but this was due to the placement of the roof joists). Additionally, the owner (William) is a real pleasure to deal with. I have no plans to use any other company for electric work at my house.

The experience was great from start to finish. William Martinez the owner, was on time and was very friendly. He knew what he was doing and was familiar with the brand of Zinsco. What I thought was going to be a very expensive job turned out to be $55.00, and the breaker needed a minor adjustment.
Description of Work: The electrical breaker that is connected to our swimming pool motor kept switching off after 10 minutes. Our pool man was unable to fix it and said it would be very expensive since it was a Zinsco breaker that had to be replaced by the same brand. I looked through Angie's List and found Garafano Electric.

We have used Garafano Electric before and they are great! They show up on time for the estimate and the job. Everyone is friendly and professional. When William came to give an estimate for the job, he said that since the broken outlet box was one they had installed a couple of years back, there would be no charge this time to replace it! The bathroom fan is smaller than I had envisioned (a good thing)and is very quiet. The workers were here on time in the morning and got right to work. They cleaned up as they went along and left no trash or debris. There were no hidden or added-on charges to the final bill. We are very satisfied with their work and would call them first any time we need electrical work done.

This is an average company. I did have one battery go out right away after the installation. I replaced it myself but I was a little disappointed that it went out in the first place. The work this company did for me required no hard wiring so that is why I was charged such a reasonable price. They said that if I needed hard wiring, that would have been reflected in the price. This business is satisfactory. I guess they are your typical, average contracting group.
