I emailed the company on Sunday. They responded Monday late afternoon. The estimator came by late Tuesday and I had the bid the next day. We revised it, signed, and scheduled service before the end of the week. The appointment was where the problems started. I scheduled to be at the empty property when they came but John called the day before to say the crew was in the neighborhood and wanted to start the day before scheduled. I approved on the theory they would come back the next day and I could go over what I wanted with them. But they finished that afternoon and didn't need to come back. I checked out the job and at first glance told John it looked fine to me. There were a couple of small things I wanted that didn't get done, like fixing the one really bad sprinkler, because I wasn't there to remember and ask for this again. Although I mentioned it in the estimate, it wasn't written in and I forgot to ask about it prior to signing. I missed getting some clean up and trim I was going to ask for and have added to the bill, too. Oversight of what they did wouldd have made for a better experience. When I looked more closely at the job, after telling John it looked okay, I saw the sprinkler and figured it was my fault for not informing him to write it in the contract. The sugar cane was very nicely removed and I couldn't even tell it had ever been there. The Elm was a bit overcut in my opinion but generally a satisfactory job. I'm no tree specialist, so perhaps that is what it needed. But on closer inspection of the Juniper, I was extremely unhappy with the result. It still hangs down so far at the fence gate that a tallish person has to duck to walk under it. Then I shook the tree and all the dead stuff inside rained down. On the walkway. I looked closely under and inside and saw they didn't thin out the dead stuff inside the tree. They just shaped the top my brother couldn't reach and didn't properly thin out the dead stuff inside. AND when I looked from another angle, I saw a gaping hole right in the front of the tree. Close inspection showed they loped off a major branch in the front of this bushy tree and there is now just a cut stump and no rounded foliage there. I didn't call them back to fix this, as I had numerous other jobs to finish before the open house that Saturday. I shook out the nasty spidery stuff they left and cleaned it up. That part of the service definitely rates an F-. Further found missed clean up of pieces of the Elm they left lying on top of the gazebo under the tree. B for clean up there. Had to get a ladder and clean that myself. I believe I would have been happy with the work if they hadn't rushed the job and finished without me being there to approve and point out the problem areas. D for scheduling too fast! I think the key here is OVERSIGHT.....you need to be there to get thee job done to your satisfaction. Their work was satisfactory if I had been available to oversee it and communicate exactly what I wanted. Communication was great until the end. Last minute reschedule on their end and not coming back the next day left me half unsatisfied. Then we agreed the would pick up the check (instead of me just mailing it) on Saturday morning. I waited until well after noon and no one called or showed up. They didn't call for days after when I was unable to respond. So this was a mixed bag and the job ended up inconveniencing me more than it was worth. I'm trying another company to trim my palm tree and do clean up at my home. And the estimate is 1/3rd less than Gabriel's quoted me. When they finish the job I'll rate that tree service!
Description of Work: Trimmed trees, one large tree at $350 and one Junniper tree that looks wonderful with a "bonzai" style cut with separate balls on the tree. Overall they were easy to deal with, prompt and and agreeable. The response time was very fast and the estimate was subimtted in less than 4 days. Apparently they were landscaping some properties in the area and dropped by within 2 days of my Sunday email request for the estimate (they have a very user friendly website and they answer promptly). The estimate was a pleasant and prompt transaction and I received the written estimate via email within less than 48 hours. I thought the estimate was pricey but I was preparing my mother's house for a trust sale, a large limb had already fallen off a tree overhanging the sidewalk and worried me re: liability ti pedestrians, I needed the work done quicklu, and lastly it is an very exclusive beach community where I have noticed the same service charges more than they charge in my middle claass neighborhood 4 miles away. I have since gotten an estimate from another service and they did come in a bit lower on my mother's house, not much. The new estimate company from the list did, however, bid $50 less to trim my Palm in the less exclusive neighborhood. The estimate to trim the huge Elm next to the house was reasonable, as we let everything go so long and the tree is huge and shaggy. I cancelled the tree over the sidewalk, another large old tree, and simply lopped off the worst limbs with my brother to save some $$. I cancelled out all the fruit trees, as $100 each for a Lemon, Guava, and Loquat I could mostly do myself seemed too expensive. However, the sugar cane a sister-in-law planted years ago (ugly, inappropriate, and pervasive stuff that made the trimmed garden look trashy) was worth every penny to get rid of! John promptly responded via email with a revised bid I signed and emailed back to him. Extremely fast service in a time crunch situation. I used this company because Mom's regular tree service couldn't even do the estimate in less than 10 days to 2 weeks? John at Gabriel's scheduled the service within days.
